I got spine chills when Russo talks about MAX ratings. Dunn tells both McMahon and Russo they pulled 10 Million. Spine. Chills.
Bro. I knew the business was big ...not 10 Million. But listening to that was incredible.

Find the two-part Piper's Pit podcast Vince Russo did with Roddy Piper in 2015. It caught my attention and I immediately went "Really? Well shit, repect for Russo, he has a huge set of balls to do that knowing that Roddy Piper could verbally annihilate him. I got to hear this"
Piper definitely gave them shit for some things, but it actually ended up being a very interesting conversation. They didn't necessarily agree with each other, but at least understood where the other guy was coming from and what his thinking was behind things.
Piper taught him what some of the reasons he had heat with the guys were. Edicate such as when you come into a new company for territory, you go to the locker room and Shake everyone's hand introducing yourself to everybody who is there. Piper was insulted because it was Ed Ferrara who came and said "Vince would like you to do this" Piper explained that he immediately went on the defensive because that was a tactic used by promoters that was a signal they had no plans for you.
Vince explained to Roddy that the thing he's most bitter about is that while he was there, none of these guys anything to his face. The way he was brought up being a man if you have problem with somebody you look them in the eyes and you tell them there is a problem and the two of you deal with it one way or another. Vince Russo thought it was kind of unfair that he had heat, as Roddy pointed out for things he didn't even know he did in some cases. Yet, None of these guys ever had the guts to look him in the eye and s they had a problem giving him a chance to either apologize or explain himself.
Roddy told him he could appreciate that, but then told a story about being at a zoo with his daughter etc. Roddy pointed out that a predator is never going to tip-off it's pray that it's getting ready to attack. You don't want to tip your hand to the other guy and have know what you're thinking. If you're the prey, and you're planning a survival strategy, you don't want to tip off to your pray that you know you're being stalked so they keep doing what they're doing and your plan will work.
You definitely want to check it out. Great listen.

There are far too many matches per show, too many that don't even matter to the point where I just skip ahead; and matches last too long. Nobody wants to see a commercial break during a match. That is just boring. Give me entertainment and give me drama. What I loved about the Attitude Era was that it was like watching a good soap opera with wrestling.

They expected him to get the ratings up immediately when it was obvious in the fall of 1999 they were in a hole and yet they fired him after only 3 months. Then they brought Russo and Bischoff back in the spring of 2000 to work together and by then it was way to late. I remember at the time thinking WTF they fired him so quickly. He seems like a good guy trying to do what he views as best to help out the industry and make it more successful for all involved. Thanks for having him on, Chris. If he returns to the show I hope he will go more into his TNA tenure and the differences in working with the Jarrett, Dixie and Hogan/Bischoff regimes.

To be frank, I think both bischoff and Russo are far more honest and objective than emotional hysteric and narcissist cornette. All 3 have some good points, and good ideas - and had some terrible ones… 2 of them admit they made mistakes… one just cuts promos all day and has a cult following of smarks who parrot him mindlessly….

Im sorry to say this but. There is a reason hardcore narcissist's come off as genuine even when they are ultra not being genuine. In Russo's case he has been caught in hundreds of major lies in his career. But people with high narc traits as he 100% has. They become expert at making others believe of them what they want them to believe. So he can come off as genuine or an everyman.
He isn't those things. I can promise you that. You might dislike conry's politics or personality. But he is an example of someone being truthfully genuine in their thoughts and beliefs. People who are truthfully genuine will speak what they feel or believe whether others disagree or disagree without needing to have constant praise or adulation or make it themselves when they are not getting it. Something Russo is very commonly known for.
Of course just being a narcissist isn't a valid reason to dismiss someone. Its just who he is and how he is.

I'm surprised nothing came up about Jim Cornette during this entire interview (aside from Russo casually listing him off as a member of McMahon's inner circle). I'd say the success of the Attitude Era came from Russo's "trash TV" mentality during a time when Jerry Springer and The Real World were top audience draws, while Cornette's ability to refine Russo's ideas down to fit a wrestling show was what kept things coherent each week. And on top of that you had JR and Pat Patterson scouting some of the best talent in the world to follow through with those storylines.
