- This is originally a three-part vocal work, found in 'The Parisian Chanson Volume Ten: Thirty Chansons for Three Instruments or Voices' published by London Pro Musica. That edition is a modern engraving of works from 'Quarante et deux chansons musicales a troys parties nouvellement et correctement imprimees a Paris', published in 1529. The composer is not listed, but the publisher (arranger? Possibly composer?) is Pierre Attaingnant. Here, I'm playing it as a clarinet trio for two B-flat clarinets and bass clarinet.
The English translation of this work is:
"Alas, alas, I am banished,
I am deprived of my love,
I am disinherited!
I realise that it has no more currency,
It is great pity in the course
Of one's intent
To deceive love thus.
O cruelty! These tricks are unfair,
In one's intent
To deceive love thus."
Recorded by Peter Anthony Smith.

There aren't many of my subscriptions who play middle french stuff. Great job, as always. :)
Cheers mate! Carving out a bit of a niche :)
the counterpoint is beautifully enhanced by the timbre of the clarinets. Well played.
Thanks Margaret! I'm glad you think it works :)
Just lovely!
Thank you! I'm glad you think so! :)
