I have the iceco VL45 and the metal will dent a little bit but not bad and it doesn’t effect anything. Also, regarding smell, it does not retain smells. You wipe it out, let it air out, and it’s as good as new. Love mine!
The DanFoss compressors seemed to be the best compressors. ... one thing you should point out, is that you pre-cool your fridge on a house plug the night before your going to use it. Then it's all up to temp when you put it in your vehicle. (Doesn't have to work hard getting up to temp in the car)
I have had a original arb fridgefor 10 years and beat the crap out of it in the back of my truck and it has not missed a beat. Sometimes it costs more to design and manufacture things into a smaller space. Lightweight gear for backpacking costs more than bulkier and heavier gear.
I appreciate the soda can measurements at the 14 minute mark. I’ve been trying to see if this will hold catering “half tray” foil pans. This should get me to that measurement.
Man, when you have a fridge in the bed of your gladiator having the app to monitor its temp when youre on long trips is really nice. Especially when the temp changes from different elevations.
Can you compare these showing the wattage used to sustain food temp once they’ve both cooled to the same temp and how long they last at that temp and how long they can cook say a couple 12 packs from room temp? I’m more interested in the power needed to maintain food temp and how long it would take say, if I went to the store an loaded some food in it while I was out on a trip? The wattage it uses while cooling off from warm doesn’t really mean much, since food will usually be put into it cold or most people will plug it into ac at their house to initially cool it off. Thanks for the great comparison!
Theres so many variables with things like external temperatures. Right now it has been 0 to 5 degrees every day and my fridge has used less 1% of my Delta 2 a day, but in the summer heat, it can use 10% to 20% a day if really hot.
Thanks for showing the can dimensions! Such a universal size item - great to compare and makes it easier to see the space. Here are the totals I’m getting for the vertical can math: Dometic base 5X5X2 plus Dometic upper 5X3 = 65 total cans; Iceco base 5X6X2 plus Iceco upper 5X2 = 70 total cans (not counting any possible horizontal cans you could add to the top or any extras you could potential squish in either).
I have the VL45, it’s a great unit. I wish I had the budget for a dual zone or a VL Pro series, either would be nice. Watch that DC plug; the spring is pretty stiff and can work it’s way out while in the road. I think Dometic has a locking outlet.
Spare parts always give me a “oh great, stuff is going to break” feeling. It was a pain to find, but I’m really happy with my 65L National Luna fridge/freezer. Almost went with dometic but the NL fit better for me.

I’ve had an ARB 50 qt. fridge in my XJ for about 10 years. It has a quirky thermostat; sometimes when set to 33F the beverages are ice cold, other times I need to lower it to 24F. Otherwise it’s been great. It does get the musty smell you talked about. Now that I have a new Gladiator, I’ve added the Decked drawer system, and am awaiting an Alu Cab Contour cap. Once it’s installed, I’ll need to do some measuring to see how much vertical room I have to fit a fridge with a tilt slide. Hopefully there’s enough room, otherwise it goes in the cab on the Goose Gear seat delete. We’ll see…. Thanks for posting, those are 2 of the fridges I’m considering.
You should test the "can volume" with the wire racks. CFX35 fits under a tonneau cover, but the wire rack design is dumb. The wire rack does not allow drinks to sit evenly across the bottom.
Casey , the Dometic was using 35 to 40 watts , compared to the iceco which was using 25 to 30 watts , according to your video ,way more efficient than the Dometic ,a point i am sure Iceco would want to be correct , esp since they sent it to you for free.. just sayin..
Looks exactly like the kings fridges sold in Australia, would bet they are from the same manufacturer in china. Newer range is ok, but earlier range had a bit of a reputation for failing and catching on fire.
Great review but you missed the most important part. You didn’t throw it in the back of the wrangler to see how much space it took in the rig. I was really looking forward to seeing how much space it took up at a glance. I sleep inside sometimes and wanted to eyeball how much room I’d have with it in there.
Danfoss is a European refrigeration company (HVAC), It makes very good products and danfoss is definitely the most reliable compressor you can get on the portable fridge market I believed. Really like your review Casey I gotta get myself one of these👌🤘🇨🇦
The Secop/Danfoss is made in China. And have been for awhile. The original Danfoss were made in Denmark. Secop in Germany bought them and moved production to China. Now the Japanese own Secop.
Casey what slide did you end up using? Looking to upgrade mine to the iceco. Bit of confusion on the dometic slide lengths, as my current dometic slide is meant for the 25/35/45 sizes.
Hey Casey I met you quickly in Tsawwassen a few weeks back. I have the same dometic fridge and considering the delta 2 which I can see you have. On overage without using car DC power to top it up or solar how long will the CFX55 run for. I appreciate this varies based on conditions etc but are you getting over 48 hours on the Delta 2?
Hey Aaron! I honestly don't know I haven't run the 55 off the Delta 2 yet. My CFX28 though, in these cooler weather and a fridge full of water, could probably run the fridge for a week to 10 days. In the summer it was running it for 5 to 7 days. Hope that helps a little. If you really want to stretch the battery, keep your fridge loaded with water as you eat the food on a trip.
@@Casey250 awesome thanks for the info. Could make for a possible great video Dometic 55 with the delta 2 run test ;) I know id watch it! Great seeing you and keep up the awesome videos and content!
What I hate about iceco they totally do not take into consideration the size of standard drink cans into thier design. It looks that way across the board for all thier fridges. I have the iceco go20 and if it were just 1/2 inch taller I could double stack drink cans upright. They make It like its Chinese sizing for clothes lol.
The low profile Snomasters will fit under a Tonneau cover. And the Snomaster comes with the cover and everything. And their compressors are covered by a 7 year warranty and 3 years on everything else. Way better than a Iceco or a Dometic.
As you’re showcasing approximately $2500 in fridges, consider using a $10 tripod to capture your review. I see that you did use a tripod for some parts, but the majority of the footage is captured by a GoPro on your head. We’re getting motion sickness here my dude! I’d also encourage you to ask yourself “How fast am I talking?” and “How quickly am I moving from one shot to the next?” All the best.
Thanks for the feedback. It was a new style of video I wanted to try. I learned some things and will probably make more of these with a revised version. I have tons of camera gear to select from.
You haven favoritism to the iceco, I when with the dometic. The aluminum dings easily and you need to seal the bottom or water will leak though that 3 piece that not welded and soggy the foam. And the control panel good for bad back, that placement at the bottom is unacceptable for viewing above and it don't have a app make it even worst. And the diffrent from the bigger ice box side you praise is taken from the freezer side right? LOL dometic a better buy, the iceco uses 80 watts vs the dometic 60 watts and painted black will heat up the metal if the sun shined on it. Meaning it can't be in the sun orneed to work abput it being covered. So in short the iceco is stupidly build and cost more too. LOL
And a ice cube maker on a non dual zone is unhear off try building one. As you drive water will spill, that has a catch tray also beside a cover so you can add a bigger ice cube tray and it would catch the water but still sucured to that corner. And who need spare part when they can't even include a cage separator like juice bottle that tall, or how can you hold a stack area when you take out bigger item? Yes it will fall like dominos without a charge separator. And try put a big black aluminum rubbish can over you and go sit down in the hot summer sun. See how stupid it build, beside the atbottom control panel with no app? LOL

Depends on how long the compressor cycle is. If the Dometic cools faster and shuts down faster. It probably going to use less.
