My computer crashed on me the other day. So my uploads might be jacked up this month. Just be patient with me I lost everything 😞 luckily I had this video already uploaded and ready to go. Hit the like for me I need the algorithm love ❤️ Don’t forget to drink water… What movie should I do next? #bingers
Haymitch acts like he does bc year after year since he was a teenager he is in charge of training two kids who have all been killed no matter what he taught them. I’m sure that’ll have some pretty awful affects on your mental health not to mention remembering all the kids you killed yourself when you were literally just trying to survive.
@@menjivarjass if I remember correctly his family was killed bc of the way he won the games. He never physically killed anyone himself he found out about the force field surrounding the arena and used it to get his last opponent killed therefore outsmarting Snow. And Snow hates to be outsmarted so he killed haymitch’s girlfriend and family in retaliation
@@menjivarjass it had to do with the way he won his hunger games. Basically, he used a feature of the arena that wasn't meant to be a weapon as a weapon, which apparently made the Capitol look stupid. They used him as an example to show future victors what happens if you don't play the game on their terms.
@@menjivarjass okay sike I read the wiki he actually killed some people during the games but using the force field to outsmart his last competitor to win is correct
lmao billy's confidence in his wrongness about peeta is hilarious he was never a phony, he played the capitol and played the careers, infiltrated them to help katniss because he loves her, he never betrayed her at all also it wasn't a weird way of showing it... he literally saved her and her family's life which is the most important thing to her and his mom beat him for it
Yes but the first time reading the book or watching the film when you see Peeta hanging around with the careers is such a boomer anyways. We don't know all the backstory yet. For me Peeta starts growing in book 2.
Can’t even lie when I first watched the movies I thought he was a phony too throughout the whole thing😭 even in the beginning of the 2nd movie I didn’t know how to feel abt him
hear me out: Peeta only went with the Career's because he was trying to protect Katniss from them, it's a lot more clearer in the book. Besides, i bet you'll start liking him once u watch Catching Fire.
I think he’s already decided that nothing will make him change his mind about Peeta, Peeta is bad no matter what Collins wrote. 😏 (Pssst-I think he’s confusing him with young Snow. 😆)
Peeta (David) infiltrated the enemy group to lead them away from Katniss (Catalina). When Katniss gets stung and starts hallucinating Peeta saves her by urging her to run away. That’s why Peeta is injured when Katniss finds him, the enemy group was angry at him for letting Katniss get away so they attacked him. It’s actually Katniss who pretends to have feelings for Peeta because the people watching the games enjoy the romance, which equals more sponsors. However, she does actually start to warm up to him.
Lmao Peeta is neither a phony nor misunderstood. He’s just genuinely that good of a guy. He teamed up with districts one and two to protect Katniss by leading them on a wild goose chase and keep an eye out for her bc he knew they were specifically hunting her. Believe it or not, there are people who are just genuinely GOOD people. 🙃
Billy’s an outgoing version of (book) Katniss. Doesn’t trust Peeta✔️ Rue = Little Sister ✔️ Insults Career pack and Peeta from the tree ✔️ Focuses on hydration✔️
When Katniss gets chosen, clapping would've meant supporting the Capital's system. Instead, they throw up those hand signs, which are a district 12 sign of respect. They mourn her sacrifice rather than being proud of it.
As someone who read the books, the movies are one of the few adaptions that are legitimately faithful to the source material while also standing completely on its on. Honestly impeccable 👌🏼
The first movie still failed to convey a lot of the political and emotional set up for both the world and the characters. The subsequent movies did a much better job.
@@fennelwink yes I believe the same. The books are a direct criticism of media entertainment and how far corporations are willing to go in order to make money. It's an allegory of reality tv but way more extreme. Plus the political connotation of inequality between districts and post trauma effects of the victors. It's a very rich and complex story actually.
Billy changing everyone's name lol Peeta ->Peter -> Dave ->David Katniss -> Catalina ->*realizes name ->back to Catalina ->back to Katniss Rue -> baby Tatiana
The bread scene didn’t work for me in the film, so I get why you weren’t jiving with it as “Peeta showing he cared”. In the book, they were both 11 (Katniss’ dad had recently died in a mine collapse and her mom had slipped into a catatonic state, leaving Katniss singularly responsible for providing for the family); and Peeta was already sporting a black eye from his mom’s beating him for burning the bottoms of the loaves. He desperately wanted to help Katniss, but he was also terrified of receiving another beating if his mom caught him giving the loaves to Katniss (instead of feeding the pigs as instructed). Fun factoid: he’d actually burned the loaves on purpose to make them unsellable when he saw Katniss in the vicinity. The “townies” (like Peeta’s family) were basically a higher caste than the miner’s families (like Gale and Katniss), and fraternizing was frowned upon. Also, your mistrust of Peeta and his intentions kind of mirrors Katniss’ in the book. She genuinely believed he was out to stab her in the back as well. But he joined the career pack under the guise of helping them find her when his real intent was to throw them off her trail as much as he could.
Yeah I can understand why you initially didn’t trust Peeta AKA David at first but trust me by time the 2nd book\movie came along I can understand why Katniss tried to save him
I still think the "dogs" in the game where an absolute let down. In the books, they are described as basically horror reincarnated: with the faces beeing earily close to the faces of the fallen tributes, there fur matching there hair colors, same for there eyes matching the tributes eye colors, and there dog tags featuring the tributes numbers. Basically as if they took the bodys of the dead tributes, and transformed them into horrible dog beasts, putting a great element of psychological trauma behind the impeding doom that there fangs and claws spell. And here in the movie, they just scratched all of that and just made them all look the same. A real shame.
I think it was a wise choice given the CGI they were capable of at the time, on their budget. The lizard mutts in the fourth movie look amazing, but I don't think they had enough money to sink into it. My number one wish from a new adaptation would be to see the werewolf like mutts from the book.
I search for this comment in every "Hunger Games" reaction video. It's very hard to put everything from the book into the movie, but the mutant tributes was something that SHOOK me beyond explanation. How Katniss isn't able to kill one of them because it looks just like Rue (or Baby Tatiana for Billy, apparently lol) was absolutely horrifying. Wish the budget had been able to cover that
omg i didnt know that. I need to read the books...I was kinda disappointed with the dogs in the movies for some reason. Like, they were just 3d printed almost holographic or something. To mangle the bodies of the dead children into attack dogs sounds so horrifying
This!!! I was looking forward to this when I watched the movies after reading the books and was so disappointed with what they ended up looking like. Thought I was the only one
Billy’s all, “Her name is Katniss?! All this time I’ve been calling her Catalina!?” But in fairness, naming conventions in Panem are like, “Meet my daughters, Stellaria, Purslane, Sorrel, and Amaranth. And my sons, Haystack, Breezy, Gyro, and Beepboop.”
@@nmoney6655and also too based on the prequel of it’s then revealed we think her grandma is the cousin to the main girl whose fav plan was actually Katniss
I actually don’t like the fact that they cut the scene where Cato begged clove to stay with him and how they promised they were gonna win together. Because although they were brutal, they careers were still children and forced into this situation because of the capitol.
as a person who was ruthlessly obsessed with the hunger games for the entirety of my preteen and teenage years, it tore my hunger games soul up listening to you call them by the wrong names lmfao
What was so tragic about Prim being selected is she only had her name submitted once. If I remember correctly from the books, 12 year olds have their names in once, 13 year olds twice, 14 year olds three times, and so on. Furthermore, you can request extra entries in exchange for money. So statistically the older tributes should have had more of a chance of being selected than the younger ones because their names are submitted multiple times, versus Prim's once. Prim being selected was such a sucker punch because it was so unlucky. Also, I can't say how many times I have randomly gone back to watch the clip of Katniss volunteering. Jennifer Lawrence killed that scene.
And they stack so if you took food and they submitted your name the next year you are submitting all those plus another one for being older pluse for any kire food you take. I think at some point Katniss says her name is there like 89 times. Its alot.
And to ask for more money you must have more raffles in your name which means you are more likely to be chosen? Wow. Honestly that sounds like a good deal when you might be a disposable kind of child but Prim and her mom are dependent on katniss. So what do you guys think, would you exchange your name for money and food for chances to be in the hunger games or would you stay lowkey.
dont come at me for calling children disposable lmao you get extra welfare for more children you have but also risking thier life. this seems to be the reality in this universe
Your name can get submitted multiple time if you açept food and extra stuff. That's why gales name was in there so many times, he had a big family to feed.
Peeta is a strategist. He did everything to save her. All of his steps went into this. At the end of the first book, when they're at the show, it shows the retrospective, and you see that his goal has always been to protect her.
Some of y’all read the book tho. So of course you would get the movie. Y’all be thinking I’m lying when I say it’s my first time then be shocked idk what you knew before the movie existed 😂
@@BillyBinges Lots of people only watched the movie Billy i dont thats just cause its the first watch. Lol its okay tho hopefully youll get more as the movies go on.
Her dad died in a mine explosion when she was younger and she despises her mom because she went into a terrible depression and basically let katniss and prim starve. That's why she hunts. And she feels indebted to Peeta because he burned bread for her on purpose so he could throw it out to her.
"They better not kill the little girl." Billy, literally every kid MUST die except one for the Games. There is only one winner. Btw, Peeta is being for real. It's Katniss playing the long game.
I read the books before the movies came out. They are so much better than the movies, and though the same actions take place they tell a different story/theme. The movies don’t touch on how Peeta was abused by his family, and how emaciated everyone in that district was. Katniss was dying of hunger and Peeta purposefully burned a loaf of bread so he could give it to Katniss, and he got beat for wasting food.
I absolutely loved loved loved the books. Read them no less than 3 times. I can't describe how excited I was sitting in the theater waiting to see it on film
I love how he’s out for Peeta right from the start and every time it shows him in a caring/ timid light before the games Billy is immediately sus 😂 when he’s genuinely being supportive. Love the reaction this is truly one of my favourite series of all time! 🥰
Also in the books the mutts were the dead tributes turned into these mutt things it would’ve made for a much more shocking scene that would’ve meant a lot more
Peeta is actually so in love with Katniss. In the book the explain how he was actually leading the career pack away from katniss the whole time You would know peeta as “David” hahaha
Ok So riddle me this Batman 😂 when you see a snake. Do you go let me watch it’s action to see if it’s really a snake? 😂 I call it like i see it Btw I said this jokingly just in case some one takes me serious 🙄
@@BillyBinges YOURE HILARIOUS PLEASEE but honestly I don't blame you Peeta is annoying as hell and the way the movies are he seems like he could just be playing Katniss and everyone else.
Anybody mention that the actor that plays gale is thor’s brother in real life? Also, next movie should be the next hunger games movie - catching fire. The best of this series in my opinion. Books were amazing. I binged the trilogy in less than 2 days. Luckily i was on vacation so i was able to drop everything and put it all into these books. They are amazing.
Second movie was the best, but I liked the third book more... I read Mockingjay twice and after second read, it made me even more angry what the studio did to that movie.
Yes, I read the books and highly recommend them. The author who wrote them worked on the movies too, but she understands the art of adapting for film and what kinds of changes need to be made to work. The books are Young Adult novels (so, aimed at the 12-18 set) but they don't read like Kiddie books. Good stuff. I do wish there was a little more explanation in the movies though. Katniss's dad was a miner, and he died in a mine cave-in, as did Gale's dad, which is one of the reasons they are so poor. No one clapped when Katniss volunteered because District 12 is one of the poorest districts in the country and their kids are most often killed in the Games since, like the kids from District 11, they tend to be underfed and not well trained to survive in the Games. They don't view the Games as a chance for glory, but rather much more like an execution. It is sheer LUCK that Katniss ends up in these Games, held in a forest setting that is familiar to her (the Games change every year; sometimes it's a desert, sometimes snowy mountains, etc) and that she has been *ILLEGALLY* hunting outside of her District--something she has to do to keep her family fed since her mom sort of shut down after Katniss's dad was killed. Katniss and her family were literally starving when Peeta burnt the bread that he ended up tossing to her. The book is better able to explain that the bread loaves he gave her when she was 14 or so kept her family alive for a few more days while she figured out how to get outside the District and trap/hunt small animals for meat. You get a much better understanding of just how desperate things are for the Everdeens in the books and a better understanding for how and why Katniss became such a survivor at such a young age.
yes! and they were supposed to look more like werewolves only recognizable by the eyes. when I read that scene it gutted me. I'm sad they didn't do it justice in the movie.
Did they mutate them? I always understood it as they created wolf-human hybrid things that had the same physical characteristics as the killed tributes (hair color, eye color, general size), but they weren't actually the dead tributes
@@BillyBinges its the middle three fingers and its used to show respect. That's why everyone did it when Katniss volunteered for her sister in the reaping.
Sometimes I really forget how in the books they make the wolves at the end look like all the dead tributes and how they attack Cato and he gets basically eaten alive and torn to shreds for hours until Katniss shoots him in the head. Like Suzanne really had us reading that in sixth grade. No wonder we’re all so messed up lol.
WHAAAAT?! I'm surprised you haven't seen this yet. The Hunger Games and The Maze Runner are the two YA(young adult) sci-fi book series adaptations that I really enjoyed. They did things right with real emotional depth and quality casts that bring their A-game. I hope you check out The Maze Runner as well. It's not as Great as Hunger Games but still a quality trilogy. Other YA sci-fi adaptations tend to fall into cheesy CW style cliche's, one dimensional characters, and cringe-worthy acting. But not these ones.
Yesssss, "The Maze Runner" is one of the best series I've read/watched. The movies definitely weren't better than the books and they changed a few things especially towards the last movie, but they were still amazing imo and the storyline is interesting.
Starts calling Katniss "Katalina" Continues to call her that through the whole reaction Finally clicks that her name is Katniss Can't remember what he was calling her before he realized her real name was Katniss Immediately goes right back to calling her Katalina
I think this is one of the book adaptations that was done well, I've finished reading the whole series in 24 hours and while of course it's better because it's much more detailed, the movie was still enjoyable. It might be a spoiler not sure ...but I liked that the books actually showed what all of this did to the hero's mental health.
I'm sad that the mutant dogs meaning is lost because it's only explained in the books. That gutted me when I read that they were animated corpses, and they were supposed to look more like werewolves, only recognizable by the eyes.
Book 3 should've been titled: Katniss and Peeta: Losing Their Sh!t 😭 It was boring but also raw to read because the PTSD was so realistic. Nobody was mentally okay by the end and that's really what a civil war does to people.
And, according to the books, the higher your score, the more likely you will be an immediate target. That's why they wanted to find her so bad, she outscored them with that 11. Just put a huge target on her back because she shot an arrow at their heads.
In the books Katniss actually did that to Rue to show that Peeta’s words on the roof of the Trainer Center were not just words anymore and it basically would’ve been much more meaningful if they included Katniss’ thoughts in the book
Books > movies, you get to know about a lot of things. eg the three fingers - its a funeral rite, they're basically just going 'you dead but we respect you'
It depends on the person. I love both of them really. The books do give you a background of everything but I love the visuals of the movies and the music, it just pours more emotions into me. I think people should read the books and watch the movies. But once you watch the movies after reading the books, you WILL sob at the end of mockingjay part 2.
I loved them both. The books is better, usually is better than film adaptations. My problem with films is it should never leave the viewer confused or feeling like they are missing something. The film should always be made assuming that the viewer doesn’t already know the story.
I mean i get both of that but also it kinda felt like the books went harder in their criticism and that everything was more nuanced. They felt like actual traumatised teenagers in the books. The later films mess this up a lil imo, especially with the Katniss-Finnick dynamic.
26:27 yes, DAVID is so misunderstood - by you 🤣 As a #teamPeeta member it hurts me. But its also hilarious to watch xD All he did he was caring and smart. He made a deal with the bad guys, but only to find her quicker, to be sure they dont kill her. And then he helped her as much as he could. He did loved her. Remember how excited she was for the little piece of bread at the beggining? How valuable the bread is? And he purposely burned the bread, got beaten by his mother, only to help Katniss and to toss her two breads for free, so she and her family wouldnt starve :(
Honestly this movie isn't 100% true to the book, but no adaptation really is but it's actually one of the best adaptations that stays true to the books. It leaves a lot of detail out but overall it's true to the books. Peeta will win you over by the end I'm sure. Now I can't wait for Catching Fire, it's the most loved movie by the fandom and honestly I agree it's my favorite of the series and I can't wait to see your reactions to the new characters, especially my favorite character.
The way you were so wrong about Peeta/“David.” 😭 By the end nobody could reasonably argue that he was a “phony,” or even “misunderstood.” Like everyone else in these games, he did what he had to do to survive, and the fact that he yelled for Katniss to run after the tracker jacket attack on the Careers is literal proof that he was trying to protect her from them. Hence how he ended up with a cut to his leg while she got away; I may be biased cause I read the books. But everyone felt this way about him cause they were reading from Katniss’ point of view, only we’re able to admit when we’re wrong about him cause we’ve been shown the whole story. The whole point was that she wouldn’t BE likable if she didn’t get on board with the romanticized showmance they were supporting. That’s why it was for real for him but just a strategy to survive for her
I saw the first movie before reading the books and I can assure you that it is understood that Peeta was trying to help Katniss, But I understand that sometimes people don't show the same attention to those things.
Tbh when I first saw the movie (never read the books) I also thought Peeta was full of shit and just weak and while I bought that he was into her he felt like leech desperately clinging to her and trying to be likeable. Maybe the book Peeta is different but in the movies he just makes me angry and despise him. Starting from his constant "I am making a puppy face, don't hit me" expression and ending at his "I am doing it for you because I am so worthless und useless but I still want you to pick me over your awesome boyfriend anyway" attitude =_= Idk..he's just annoying to me in the movies despite his good nature.
@@jos-josradvanji6203 literally when did peeta do or say any of that? he actually told katniss in catching fire to choose her family and gale when he gave her the locket with their pictures in it. he proved he was selfless in his love for katniss time and time again. then he got brainwashed and had to rebuild his entire life. i think your hatred for him is very unjustified even if i only take the movies into account.
@@thehannahroboto It was mainly the first movie. He just came off as fake and like this whimp that has a crush on her but can't do anything by himself. I also thought the whole time that if his life got threatened he'd raid her out in an instant due to how he came off. And I didn't like the way he immediately went for all the romance stuff even though he knew she has a boyfriend. Maybe it just came off wrong but it was uncomfortable to watch them together. He seemed like the dude that would abuse their horrible situation, say they need to act like a couple to survive and then force her into an actual relationship by telling her something like.. "if the crowd sees you with a different guy they might be displeased and get your family killed" so she can't go back to her actual guy. (I know this didn't end up happening but those were the vibes he gave me which is why he wasn't sympathetic to me.
@@jos-josradvanji6203 what in the actual hell did I just read 😂 were you tripping on acid while watching the movie? Gale was never Katniss’ boyfriend, they were just friends even though Gale obviously liked Katniss. Bro the level of misunderstanding the whole story in your comment is astounding
the sign they did with their hands at the begining when katniss voluntered is a great sign of respect and admiration, kind of like saying goodbye to someone you love.
“Catalina” and throwing gang sings! I AM WHEEZING, I literally can’t! 🤣😂 I read all the book, as always the movies aren’t as good as the books but it’s a good adaptation. There are parts of the book I wish they had included. Looking forward to seeing you react to the rest of the movies 😊
Here's a direct quote from the book about the "three finger gesture": "Then something unexpected happens. At least, I don't expect it because I don't think of District 12 as a place that cares about me. But a shift has occurred since I stepped up to take Prim's place, and now it seems I have become someone precious. At first one, then another, then almost every member of the crowd touches the three middle fingers of their left hand to their lips and holds it out to me. It is an old and rarely used gesture of our district, occasionally seen at funerals. It means thanks, it means admiration, it means good-bye to someone you love."
#bingers Harry Potter Series, The Mummy series from the 90s and the original Jurassic Park movies 🎥 Love your reactions! Thank you so much for all the awesome content!
1. The fence: the fence is supposed to be electrified 24/7 but the district is lucky to get a few hours of electricity a day 2. she got her bow and arrows from her dad who made them
the second movie catching fire is my favorite one-in the movies and the books. it’s the best one honestly. it takes the concept in the first one and twists it in such an interesting and new way and characters i love get introduced
The ending in the book is actually a lot darker. The dogs (mutts) were actually made to look like the killed tributes (including Rue/Tatiana), giving them the same colored eyes, hair, and collars that had their district number on it. Cato is not killed immediately. He is being eaten alive by the mutts all night until Katniss shoots him in the morning. Peeta nearly dies from blood poisoning after being stabbed by Cato, and after they get out, he has to be revived a couple of times and gets his leg amputated. In Catching Fire, it is noted that while in the arena, he is a lot slower and trips a lot because of his prosthetic leg. I wish they would have included that detail.
Peeta (aka David) legit had a crush on her. He was always trying to save her, hence why he told her to run after the bee (Tracker Jacker) incident. Katniss doesn't like Peeta originally, but warms up to him when she has to go through all the mental breakdowns from the games etc and he understands it too. Peeta, Katniss and Haymitch are the only ones atm in District 12 who know the horror of the games and what comes from surviving them.
I wrote a paper in a college writing class about how our obsession with reality television is bringing us closer to the books becoming reality, I got an A.
The hunger games the true hero is Peta even if he is useless he definitely the true hero the one who sets up Katniss to be the “Real Hero” and we will definitely see this later on. Saving her in lil ways and making her seem like she’s the hero but in reality she’s just strong and very stubborn.
If there’s one thing I’ve realized about billy after this video is that he never remembers anybody’s names. Went from Catalina to Peter, David and baby Tatiana 😂😂 Anyways glad you were finally able to react to hunger games loved it!
To answer some questions Billy, Katniss can hunt and inherited her gear from her dad who taught her. Her dad died working in the mines, there was an explosion.
Jennifer (Katniss) actually went deaf from the planes going off near her ear apparently it ruptured her eardrum and in the 2nd movie when they were in the water arena the lady who played Mags (Lynn) was exempt from doing her scenes in the water Jennifer (Katniss) felt horrible about pushing the old lady in the water but she thought it hilarious
Watched this for the first time yesterday, knowing you were doing a commentary today . 🤣 I loved it don't know why I never had any interest in watching the Hunger games trilogy before. So thankyou Billy . I am hooked and I know your reaction is going to be great because it is a combination of action and a woman . Two of yourur favourite things
Thats awesome the second movie is the best in the franchise and just a level above this first one. The other 2 are good too. Just enjoy watching them youre in for a treat (and maybe some tears)
The fence says high voltage but shes able to go right through because in the books it says that District 12 (Where Katniss is from) only gets electricity for about an hour a day, if any at all
The books are so much better than the films. Can't think of any adaptations off the top of my head that are better than books. I remember downloading this as I was on the final chapter of the book (shout out to limewire) and thinking how awful it was when I watched it. There are so many things left out that I didn't understand how anyone could get the full picture. The books were from Katniss' pov, which I felt made it much more digestible and understandable. All of that said, last year I listened to the audiobooks and realized that the books aren't as great a I remembered, haha.
I haven't read either of those, so I can't give any valid opinion on them. Horror, fantasy and Sci-fi are my go to genres in both books and films. Romance and feel good are my 2 least favorite. I avoid both avidly. 😅
I just knew Rue would capture your heart and then you would be DESTROYED twice over. The power of cuteness combined with the power of being done wrong.
Sometimes I wish I could be watching this with Billy so I could explain things for him.....like the reason the fence isn't working, what happened to the girls' dad.... And just other things because those that read the book know that they left out a bunch of crucial information
Billy, you been keeping me better hydrated ever since I started watching his reaction videos! But I'm so glad to see you're finally reacting to Hunger Games! It's a wild ride! Long Live Catalina, David and Baby Tatiana 🤣
Here’s some lore that will make you sad! Katniss and Peeta come from the poorest district. A lot of the older kids submit their names in the reaping multiple times in exchange for food for their family. Also there’s a fan theory that this universe is a dystopic future of the U.S. There’s a map online plotting out where certain districts would be based on their main export.
Some kids from the richer districts train for the Hunger Games their whole lives and volunteer when they’re 18. Those are the big mean kids and they usually dominate the games.
The games were even more psychologically scarring in the book somehow. The dogs they sent after them at the end had the faces of all the other fallen competitors. Also, the big guy they killed died really slowly and painfully because he had really tough armor on so the dogs gnawed on him all night until Katniss used her arrow to put him out of his misery.
3 fingers means respect admiration and goodbye to someone you love thats only told in the books not in the movies And her mockingbird pin was supposed to be given to her by a friend
Billy where do you get your shirts from? A lot of them make me feel so nostalgic. The racism against Rue (baby Tatiana) was so crazy when this came out. And what made it even dumber is that her character in the book was black.
Fun fact:I’m the books they describe everything from Katniss’ perspective so at first Peeta was the villain and then he turned into a good guy who genuinely loved Katniss
Totally agree! Maybe the only flaw they have is that if you only see the movies you don't realize just how great of a character Peeta is. But yeah, overall these movies are incredible adaptations!
Billy, I’m sorry I’ve not watched any of your videos throughout October, I’m not good with horror movies and I haven’t watched any that you reacted to.... But I’m glad Halloween’s over and I’m baaackkk❤️❤️❤️ And I’ve been waiting for this video since yesterday, I love the Hunger Games trilogy (to be fair Saturday was yesterday in my time zone, it’s now almost 9am Sunday morning here). It’s a cloudy and chilly autumn morning so I’m going to watch this all snuggled up in bed with my morning cup of coffee ☕️ ✨
As much as I like this series, the first movie missed a lot of important set up from the book. Things that were set up very clearly in the book just aren't as clear here. Thankfully the later movies are better on that. But the biggest thing missed being Peeta's lifelong crush on Katniss which drove him to purposely burn bread from his family's bakery when he saw Katniss starving outside after her father died, so he could toss it to her. She took that bread home and it kept her family going. After that Katniss remembered her father's hunting lessons and starting hunting food for herself. But she never forgot "the boy with the bread" that was there at the lowest point in her life.
The books are definitely better tbh, the movies and the whole press around it felt like it was made by the Capital. Like they REALLY watered that shit down, the poverty, oppression, trauma, the violence, etc. I hope someday they do a rated R remake (unlikely) because that's really the only way you could make a faithful adaptation.
Even in the books themselves, compare the original trilogy to the recent prequel: Ballad is much more grim and shocking in some places than the original trilogy, you can get away with more adult topics in YA now. The cannibalism stuff in the newest book especially stood out. IDK if they would've let Collins go there back in 2008 lol. I think it's to the benefit of the story honestly, I'd love to see a faithful adaptation of the prequel, I think they're in talks to make one too.
Billy! I cannot with you! 😭😂😂 you had me rolling! I was an obsessive Hunger Games fan when these books and movies came out and this just takes the cake! Thank you for amazing videos like this! I'm crying. 😂😂😂 Also, how you do not trust Peeta like the whole time... dead. 🙈
I’m so excited yet sad. Going to get some tissues for the saddest scene (Rues Death) . I cry like so much in that scene because it does something to me
Katniss’ dad died in a mine explosion when she was 12 and shortly after her and her mom and sister was starving but one day Peeta saw her crying and threw her some bread and ended up saving her life

Haymitch acts like he does bc year after year since he was a teenager he is in charge of training two kids who have all been killed no matter what he taught them. I’m sure that’ll have some pretty awful affects on your mental health not to mention remembering all the kids you killed yourself when you were literally just trying to survive.
Yeah and he was way drunker in the books
@@samuelbrown4764 what!!! That's so sad. Did that happened to every winners of the games? Or why did Snow killed all his family?
@@menjivarjass okay sike I read the wiki he actually killed some people during the games but using the force field to outsmart his last competitor to win is correct

also it wasn't a weird way of showing it... he literally saved her and her family's life which is the most important thing to her and his mom beat him for it
Yes but the first time reading the book or watching the film when you see Peeta hanging around with the careers is such a boomer anyways. We don't know all the backstory yet. For me Peeta starts growing in book 2.

I think he’s already decided that nothing will make him change his mind about Peeta, Peeta is bad no matter what Collins wrote. 😏
(Pssst-I think he’s confusing him with young Snow. 😆)
Right? Pita was her day one!
Aww. Peeta's the best character.
Peeta is boring af, but the books are also boring af. However, he does do everything to protect Katniss.

As someone who read the books, the movies are one of the few adaptions that are legitimately faithful to the source material while also standing completely on its on. Honestly impeccable 👌🏼
Agreed! Especially Catching Fire!

^This totally had me^ 🤣
They have joined the ranks with Olaf-Olive lol
Yeah I can understand why you initially didn’t trust Peeta AKA David at first but trust me by time the 2nd book\movie came along I can understand why Katniss tried to save him
Katniss who? Peeta who? Rue who?
Sis I only know Catalina, David, and Baby Tatiana 💅🏽
Honestly I like Billy’s names better.
Peeta: * exists *
Billy: David seems suspicious.
😀😀 say what now…. that’s horrid, I’m a little glad I didn’t read them after jumping into this comment section

I actually don’t like the fact that they cut the scene where Cato begged clove to stay with him and how they promised they were gonna win together. Because although they were brutal, they careers were still children and forced into this situation because of the capitol.
I never knew that
@@Margaretj13 time to read the books!
Time to reread the books, because I did not remember that
Cato was a volunteer (as far as I remember)
Basically everyone from Districts 1 and 2, and sometimes District 4, were careers/volunteers. But yeah, they'd all still like to live.
as a person who was ruthlessly obsessed with the hunger games for the entirety of my preteen and teenage years, it tore my hunger games soul up listening to you call them by the wrong names lmfao
Its alot.
I dont get it. If you asked for more rations the penalty is you get more "raffles" for your name to be chosen?

Second movie was the best, but I liked the third book more... I read Mockingjay twice and after second read, it made me even more angry what the studio did to that movie.
I agree with you 💯! Catching Fire was the best movie. I actually saw that one first.
The books are so infinitely better than the movies
Fun fact, but those dogs near the end were actually the dead contestants. They mutated them after they died (at least in the books)
yes! and they were supposed to look more like werewolves only recognizable by the eyes. when I read that scene it gutted me. I'm sad they didn't do it justice in the movie.
Did they mutate them? I always understood it as they created wolf-human hybrid things that had the same physical characteristics as the killed tributes (hair color, eye color, general size), but they weren't actually the dead tributes
@@jethro4453 yes they did. It was fucked up and so sad.
Umm actually just double checked it wasn't with their body's they were just genetically engineered to look like the the kids.🤷🏾♀️
I think it was less they mutated them and more they harvested some of their body parts, like the eyes, to use in the mutts. Psychological torture.

And he purposely burned the bread, got beaten by his mother, only to help Katniss and to toss her two breads for free, so she and her family wouldnt starve :(
Sir that live action baboon is a Hemsworth and his god-like beauty shall be respected 🤣🤣🤣

At least, I don't expect it because I don't think of District 12 as a place that cares about me. But a shift has occurred since I stepped up to take Prim's place, and now it seems I have become someone precious. 1. The fence: the fence is supposed to be electrified 24/7 but the district is lucky to get a few hours of electricity a day
2. she got her bow and arrows from her dad who made them
3. The salute - it’s an old custom. A sign of respect and farewell
the second movie catching fire is my favorite one-in the movies and the books. it’s the best one honestly. it takes the concept in the first one and twists it in such an interesting and new way and characters i love get introduced
The second one is my favorite, I can't waitttttttt. This is my fave book series.
Suzanne Collins actually said she based Katniss on Thesis from Greek mythology defeating the Minotaur
Catalina, David, baby Tatiana, healthy Aaron Carter 🤦🏾♀️😂🤣
Billy, you always have me in tears💀💀. Funny AF.👏
Yay! I’m excited that you watched this and plan on continuing. I’m sad I missed the premiere! Maybe I’ll catch the next one though.
He is out here calling rue baby tatiana 😂😂😂😂😂
Watched this for the first time yesterday, knowing you were doing a commentary today . 🤣 I loved it don't know why I never had any interest in watching the Hunger games trilogy before. So thankyou Billy . I am hooked and I know your reaction is going to be great because it is a combination of action and a woman . Two of yourur favourite things
YESSS. THE SERIES IS GREAT! Glad you loved it!!!!
Thats awesome the second movie is the best in the franchise and just a level above this first one. The other 2 are good too. Just enjoy watching them youre in for a treat (and maybe some tears)
@@silverkyre Thank-you I am definitely watching the others. Maybe binge on them later today as I am a day off x
The fence says high voltage but shes able to go right through because in the books it says that District 12 (Where Katniss is from) only gets electricity for about an hour a day, if any at all
This is one of those situations where yes the books are probably better but the movies are so good that I’ve never gone back to re read the books.
If you decide to keep watching these, please continue to call them David and Catalina I am living for it
The books are so much better than the films. All of that said, last year I listened to the audiobooks and realized that the books aren't as great a I remembered, haha.
the only one i can think of is fifty shades of grey.
The Forest Gump movie is better than the book. In my opinion.
I haven't read either of those, so I can't give any valid opinion on them. Horror, fantasy and Sci-fi are my go to genres in both books and films. Romance and feel good are my 2 least favorite. I avoid both avidly. 😅
In my opinion the movie Nerve is better than the book.
The IT adaptations are better than the book because the adaptations take out that weird child *rgy the books have.
I adore the movies but the books are waaaaaay better and of course explain things better. I love Peeta ❤
LOL @ Billy calling them every name in the world EXCEPT the ones their mamas named them 🤣
The three finger up symbol you see when katniss is presented as tribute means respect in funeral terms
3 fingers means respect admiration and goodbye to someone you love thats only told in the books not in the movies
And her mockingbird pin was supposed to be given to her by a friend
10:45 Billy: "Catalina is fire....that girl is fire"
Me thinking about future movies and outfits: Yep, that's pretty accurate.
Billy where do you get your shirts from? A lot of them make me feel so nostalgic.
The racism against Rue (baby Tatiana) was so crazy when this came out. And what made it even dumber is that her character in the book was black.
That part. It was so ignorant.
Fun fact:I’m the books they describe everything from Katniss’ perspective so at first Peeta was the villain and then he turned into a good guy who genuinely loved Katniss
I did read these books and as far as I’m concerned this is the best book to movie translation I’ve ever seen.
Agreed
Totally agree! Maybe the only flaw they have is that if you only see the movies you don't realize just how great of a character Peeta is. But yeah, overall these movies are incredible adaptations!
it's a great adaptation absolutely but i always have to mention holes as a great adaptation lol
@@shaynapunim definitely the best one. I stand corrected
I think the Lord of the Rings Fellowship of the Ring was better done, but the first hunger games is pretty good
One thing that fucks me up the most is that in the book, those aren’t just dogs that they magically made. They created them from the dead tributes.
Catalina, David, Tatiana.... I cant with you 🤣🤣🤣🤣
This series is based off the Greek myth Theseus and the Minotaur. It explains why the games are set up as a reaping.
Me toooooo! I couldn't
Talk to HBO, they're not afraid to do graphic, fucked up shit.
Billy! I cannot with you! 😭😂😂 you had me rolling! I was an obsessive Hunger Games fan when these books and movies came out and this just takes the cake! Thank you for amazing videos like this! I'm crying. 😂😂😂
Also, how you do not trust Peeta like the whole time... dead. 🙈
I’m so excited yet sad.
Going to get some tissues for the saddest scene (Rues Death) . I cry like so much in that scene because it does something to me
Katniss’ dad died in a mine explosion when she was 12 and shortly after her and her mom and sister was starving but one day Peeta saw her crying and threw her some bread and ended up saving her life
Amazing and sad movie!! Haymitch is so funny but yet you see he tries to hide his pain. I love Billy's personality and I've been a big fan of his videos since I found his channel. So excited about this reaction!!
I think their dad just died, its 12 to 18 years for the game. This ain't 16 and pregnant
