Fun fact: The bug Shijumi shoots at 5:41 is the same one who takes his leg. Right after he shoots it and turns to the other you see the bug go "U WOT M8" and come over the ridge to him. And that's why it is always important to confirm your kills, kids.
I would of begun with a Orbital Bombardment to suppress the Plasma Bugs and to hopefully get an a no-go area for the bugs. Air support would then follow to drop guided nuclear missiles into anything that looked like a cave. Then the Infantry would drop with armour support and try and create a beachhead.
I agree, but for all intents and porpuses this operation was based on bad intelligence reports that sugested an easy victory due to the lack of organization between the bug population. The Federation overestimated the enemy and paid with heavy casualties. However since nobody ever really knew if the bugs launched the meteor that destroyed Buenos Aires, it could mean that the Federation false flagged that catastrophe, the massive failure of the assault on the bug planet could also be planned in advance since it would boost the hate of the civilian population and their seek for revenge. However even if the Federation nuked the planet back to it's early formation stage, the bugs would still survive in insane high numbers. For instance in the Second World War the US Navy carpet bombed entire islands occupied by the Japanese just to have their troops being blasted by almost all of the enemy soldiers that just waited inside their tunnels in the mountains until the bombing stopped.
Cynical people argue US Intelligence knew about Pearl Harbour and let it happen to have an official reason to enter the war with a united population. This here could be along the same line. The movie never gives a clear answer, this is what makes it so brilliant and, ironically, so intelligent.
mass marine marauder mdvac is still the most played tactic by the best terrans in world... because they are goddamn easy to replace, micro, and mobile. just like the troopers here hehe.

@KILLRAIN42 Remember, MI training and battle doctrine had all been about fighting other humans, likely in brushfire wars and counter insurgancy operations against reletively small forces of rebels. This is a battle for which they were totally untrained and unequipped. The 5.56 caliber rounds that their Morrita rifles fire are likely devestating against soft, squishy humans, but to a bug, its like a bee-sting.
Just that one girl who fell, not knowing why it dragged her away instead of rip her apart and knowing that the brain bug sucks out brains is pretty horrifying.

1st I read the book, then I bought and played the board game by Avalon Hill, then I listened to the hit single by Sarah Brightman. Finally the movie got done and I loved it.
Mobile Infantry was shooting a Human size Dummy in their training field, theres no plot hole in this scene its clearly seen that they have poor intelligence and logistics.
Just a huge army of dumb berserkers, and even the real berserkers were way deadlier than the mobile infantry! At least the real ones killed a good number of enemies in battle.
That or it's a propaganda film and these men were actually being trained to fight humans before the bug thing happened and they're using "old" footage from the training camps! Really this movie could be speculated all sorts of ways. it's an enigma to me.
Reading through the comments it seems there are a lot of people questioning why they deployed without efficient air support, why the fleets were spaced so close together, the lack of efficient ground based tactics and the questionable training of the troops with a lot of them hip firing or offering sporadic fire before they retreat in a full disorganised rout, and it seems a lot of this is being blamed on poor film making and continuity, alternatively, it's Hubris. The Mobile Infantryman themselves believe themselves to be the best, not only have they been trained to fight other humans depicted in the training arc, they're seen training to fight against competing squads and firing at human targets, not to mention those bugs don't have hands to use in a nukefight, or nukes for that matter, a lot has been learned that simply is of no use, they're shown to be self superior and over confident before even deploying on their first action despite their high morale and the ironic call to "remember their training", they severely under estimate the bugs, this is slowly rectified throughout the film as they become more cautious and disciplined being seen to actually focus fire and take up strategic positions such as high ground, open terrain and structurally defended position with heavy weapon emplacements to use their firepower best to their advantage alongside air-support as they become more experienced fighting the bugs. It's heavily hinted that their doctrine was to overrun and overwhelm human opposition conventionally with mass numbers and shock tactics when deploying [The dropships are literally designed to get as many men on the ground as fast as possible with little concern for utility, manoeuvrability or survive-ability probably after the fleet nuked the surface.] The Federation ships were clustered together around the carrier ships to provide a protective screen and to protect the drop ships, due to the military intelligence they received once again underestimating the bugs believing their orbital defensive capabilities to be random and light, this is of course false, there is great debate within the Federation whether or not these creatures even have the capacity to think let alone plan an ambush or make strategic decision making, but of course, they can as later we find out the existence of the Brainbug.
Thats right! The Maurauder suits. Plus the book was really more about them going through training and learning how to become officers and such rather than the fighting. It was actually a pretty intelligent book. If they ever decide to remake it EXACTLY like the book they should make it a mini series or something.

That's fucked up😭
Fun fact: The bug Shijumi shoots at 5:41 is the same one who takes his leg. Right after he shoots it and turns to the other you see the bug go "U WOT M8" and come over the ridge to him.
And that's why it is always important to confirm your kills, kids.
The Federation must have had the cameraman's family held hostage. It's the only way to explain his behavior in this scene.
“No armor? No air support? We don’t know what we’re up against. They have weapons we’ve never seen before!”-Clone Trooper Jesse
Kaguya sama love is war Season 3 Ed lmao
I come here after watched the ending.
Well, this is why bumrushing a species that would give the Zerg a run for their money without any kind of air or armor support is a BAD idea.
Isnt that what they did on the second planet?
If the sky marshal ever played starcraft then he should know that mass marines strategy is ineffective against zerg.
mass marine marauder mdvac is still the most played tactic by the best terrans in world... because they are goddamn easy to replace, micro, and mobile. just like the troopers here hehe.
Had director read a book, he might have actually make a decent movie...
Starcraft came after this movie though. You see the influence on how the zerg was developed.
@@Siore except Starcraft was develloped based on Warhammer 40000.
Though Tyranids show similarities with ST's Arachnids
@@KermitTheArchitect Except here they forgot to bring marauders and medevacs:) Pure marine with no upgrades against the swarm of Queens ;p
why does no one in these movies aim for the freakin nerve stem?!?!
Love This Drop !!! I Was In 1983 In The U.S. Army Infantry From Ft Benning Ga At Alpha - 6 - 1Basic Training Company !!! Seeing This Mobile Infantry Going Though This Drop Makes Me Wish Back Then In Our Training We Had All The Toys Of War This Movie Shows !!! We'd Kick All Sorts Of Troubles With The Best Greatest Of Ease !!! Remember- Remember Your Training & You'll Always Get Back Home !!! I Do !!! You Better Be Quick Or You'll Be Dead !!! Only The Quick Go Home Alive , The Dead Go Home In Bodybags !!! That's The Real Reality Of War !!! No Dressing It Up !!! That's The Truth !!! 👍😃👍
I never understood how Carmen survived after receiving a plasma burst right in the face.
Probably an editing error.
Yeah me too, been wondering she would have a horrific scar from that.....later on.....wut just small scratches?
Looked like the bridge could have merely been clipped by a blast which damaged a different part of the ship. As a result she most likely had burns on her face. Medically she could have had those cured as fast as the recruit with the broken arm
plot armor
CGI dudes smoked too much, thats how.
You know shit hits the fan when even the cameraman isn't safe.
2:21 'This isn't random or light'. Oh, wait, did someone ASSUME that the bugs have no intelligence, or tactical co-ordination... because they're bugs?
Yes, someone did make a mistake..... never underestimate your opponent. Never assume that they know less than you, because they seem inferior.
If my memory is correct, it is one of the first abd most important parts of "The art of war"
Like the u.s. underestimated the North Vietnamese
Even for a 90s movie it’s a lot more better than what we get today holly shit
I miss my first 10 years in a way... Was a 1990's kid and it was such a different world than today my God lol
"Follow me troops! Abandon the high ground in favour of a shallow basin where the bugs can get to us with minimal effort! Spread out so we are easy to pick off!"
The best part of this whole scene is that there is no music.
The helmets of soldiers was in Alien Resurrection and in Tim Burton's Planet of the Apes ending scene.
Iam going to tell my kids that this was the HALO movie...
Noice meme
"Remember your training and you will make it back alive!"
"Sir, does that include the part where we were told that our odds of survival are 1000 to 1?"
"...You're over thinking it!"
My favourite part 03:04 , hitting the ground, and storming out of the dropships, flares blasting out and charging out to look for something to kill.
Gives me chills every time
6:04 Him helplessly putting his hand up before getting brutalized gets me every time.
It said on the wiki that thing is supposed to be 7.62
need one of them magazines they last forever
Watching her get dragged away underground at 6:22 after knowing about the brain bug is a scary thought
as a kid i always found it horrofying how the soldiers died...
To me their not their hilarious
Just that one girl who fell, not knowing why it dragged her away instead of rip her apart and knowing that the brain bug sucks out brains is pretty horrifying.
this is F..ING EPIC! Music and battle at the same time
One of the most intense war scenes in movie history...I guess Human Exceptionalism can only carry you so far...?
This accurately portrays both the hype and the horror of the wave of new players trying Helldivers when it went on Playstation Plus in 2016.
some compare them to 40k imperial guard...
the IG would have raped the bugs without even trying.
After a few billions of deaths… Truth is at this point they would simply call exterminatus on the planet and wouldn't bother going down.
Imperial Lasguns would be more than sufficient to kill bugs. Leman Russ Tanks would crush the Warrior bugs with ease as well
@@Gothic7876 yeah imperial guard are more armed then this guy......them lasgun will rip em bug into tiny bits.
@@CliffuckingBooth lol you are underestimating the guards, you think the lasgun is their main weapon? oh no, its the standard issue pair of adamatium balls
@@duylai2224 Plus the absurd amount of air support and heavy artillery. It would be a cakewalk for them.
“We are going in with first wave, means more bugs for us to kill, you smash the entire area you kill anything that has more then two legs you get me?!”
WE GET YOU SIR!
this reminds me like how many goddamned marines it takes to kill a zerg....
All that technology, capable of spaceflight. So many ways to deal with the bugs. Orbital bombardment, Air superiority, mechanized armor, yet they deal with the bugs....with en masse boots-on-the-ground soldiers.
oh totally!
"dont worry ripley, me and my squad of ulitmate badasses will protect you"
Actual footage of Space Force enforcing border control against illegal aliens, 2099 colorized
this scene is incredible...what's happened to films?? These effects are BADASS and this was 1997!!
"Let's get out of here!"
A deep thinker.
Wow, that cameraman is really dedicated to doing his job.
*Cadian Shock Troops perform Valkyrie combat drop from orbit on Tyranid controlled planet. M40 colourised*
So much cliches
That's why I love this film
idk if its just me , but this clip in the beginning and when they're dropping in, of course its only sci-fi but its really really motivating
6:17 the one person I wish survived
1st I read the book, then I bought and played the board game by Avalon Hill, then I listened to the hit single by Sarah Brightman. Finally the movie got done and I loved it.
imagine those AMP Suits from avatar on this they would go well with this.
Starship Troopers:
We have the troops, we have the fleet.
But we don't have any fucking tanks.
"Thank god I'm wearing my plot armour, I am the hero after all...wait, did I remember to wear it on my left le- gaaaaaaagh"
It's heavily hinted that their doctrine was to overrun and overwhelm human opposition conventionally with mass numbers and shock tactics when deploying [The dropships are literally designed to get as many men on the ground as fast as possible with little concern for utility, manoeuvrability or survive-ability probably after the fleet nuked the surface.]
The Federation ships were clustered together around the carrier ships to provide a protective screen and to protect the drop ships, due to the military intelligence they received once again underestimating the bugs believing their orbital defensive capabilities to be random and light, this is of course false, there is great debate within the Federation whether or not these creatures even have the capacity to think let alone plan an ambush or make strategic decision making, but of course, they can as later we find out the existence of the Brainbug.
Thats right! The Maurauder suits. Plus the book was really more about them going through training and learning how to become officers and such rather than the fighting. It was actually a pretty intelligent book. If they ever decide to remake it EXACTLY like the book they should make it a mini series or something.
LOVE THIS SCENE!!!
'Spread out!'
'Or how about we pack together as tightly as possible to produce as dense cone of fire as possible so that we aren't picked off...'
Raiding Area 51 rare footage
One of the best sci FI movies ever if not the best
How to survive? Be the 2nd camerman
That knife throwing training was very useful.
