  • I knew this was job was going to suck. And unfortunately it sucked a lot more than it should have. Spent about 16 hours on the install. Could be done a lot faster. Learn from my mistakes. This is for the VVTi engine. Without VVTi it would be a lot simpler.
WARNING - don't be in a hurry, make sure your jack stands and engine support are always engaged every time you change things up. Use backups on backups. Don't drop it on yourself.
    1) Check your air pipe threads on the Thorley!! Mine were gunked up. Wasted four hours before I figured that out.
    2) Don't be afraid to remove the motor mount, I had to remove it on the driver side to fit the Thorley. Should have done that a lot earlier. You'll have a lot of room and things are simpler.
    3) if you use the Toyota gaskets trim them flat, remove the overhang. The Toyota manifold is meant to be tightened from the side and bottom. The Thorley is meant to be tightened from the top and bottom. You can't get to most bolts from the side on the Thorley. Overhang prevents you from getting the top bolts with a wrench.
    4) There is no way to get a traditional torque wrench on the bolts with the Thorley in place. You'll have to calibrate yourself and your wrenches.
    Good luck.

Dude that wore me out, I’m sure you saved some people a lot of time, I have done before on another truck and it reminded me how it went and how I said never again, but I’m considering doing it for some reason.

I feel like the 100 series has SO much more room than the 120 (GX470)! Plus flanges off the manifold before the first cats! NICE.. In the GX you have to cut the cats off and weld them to the DT shorties... or go long tube and delete 1st cats (not the way I went...I went shorties).
I'm half way through my install right now; a week in but only part time wrenching a couple hours at a time.
I was able to keep ALL studs in the block, but I think I need to remove some driver side studs to get the Thorley in. Pass side I was able to dry fit the header in.
I'll remove the motor mounts again next and see if I can shimmey the driver side in that way (good tip, thx!).
And the double nut to pull out the rail studs is another great tip!
I like the idea of hoising the block one side at a time, that might afford a scosh more room for the driver's side. I'm hooked up to both hooks on the block right now.
    Sweet tips, man!!
    keep on keepin' on!!!

The process to get these in is the only reason I haven't done the swap.

It’s wayyyy more work than it should be.
      Nice headers though!

I worked for Toyota to. For 9 years. After market parts on them can be a pain.

I guess that over engineering makes it a PTA. Small block chevy headers are almost a joke how easy they would be to install.

      Went through with a stethoscope!
Might be worth asking the place if they can show you.

do they pipes that stick out toward some of the rubber hoses came a problem with the excess heat created by headers ? Trying to decide whether to do OEM VS thorley 2005 with 300,000, great video

Good question. Haven’t noticed anything but haven’t checked will try to do so in the near future
