Dave Mustaine let us record him showing us how to play the main riffs in "Symphony of Destruction". Always learn from the best!

To answer a few questions here:
- We’re on our phones recording cause he asked us if we wanted to record him teaching the riffs, and why not also keep such cool memory for posterity or maybe, idk.. viewers like you?
- yes, Megadeth tunes down a whole step nowadays
- Video quality? Dirty lens unfortunately 🤷🏼♂️
-Why this song and not something else? We were scheduled to play this song with him out of many other songs on the list, so he went ahead and… well, showed us how he plays this song and not a different one...🤔
-no pajamas, the man was wearing jeans
Thanks for stopping by to watch
Tremenda anécdota y que afortunado, muchas gracias por subir el vídeo, saludos desde Bogotá Colombia 🤘🏻
Thank you!!
Yeah if you tune down it allows you to use thicker strings if you want, perhaps going for the full Stevie Ray Vaughan gauge 12s or whatever. Get a nice metallic thunk in there. Not sure whether I'd take that gauge on lead, but the rhythm player could do it, sound like a fucking steamroller.
@@ibuprofen303 i got james Hetfield's strings and literally you have to play D# or my guitar would snap they big bois
Glad to see him doing well after the recent health issues. F'ing legend.

Dave is one of the last 80's rockers to not cut his hair short...for that he has my respect.
Some had their hair cut others it was baldness
Mettalica in the 90s cut their hair to "fit the times." Glad D.M. had the balls to say f-off at least. He is, who he is.
Brian May is also the same that it would look weird for him without his rocker hair
Maybe all the others were doing what THEY wanted to do? Instead Dave was actually trying hard to please others. Which move is a BITCH move? You decide.
@@fixxxer7030 neither cos you’re looking way too fukin deep into it🤣
I believe that, no matter how much recognition Dave Mustaine gets, he'll always be incredibly underrated as a guitarist.

that's not a pull of dave but I'll take it
This man made it his life goal to keep the San Francisco Bay Area Thrash scene alive within his locks of hair. The day he cuts that hair is the day Thrash dies.
He doesn't give a shit
So it died around Youthanasia....got it...
I feel ya BQ. That thrash scene was once in a lifetime. A Vio-Lence fan myself and CV grad (1983). The Bay Area thrash was a great place to be.
Someone hasn´t heard anything outside of the Bay Area. Thank God the Germans showed how to really play thrash
he's gotta do symphony lesson every time he gets a new guitar
TRUEE 😂😂😂
Was about to say basically the same thing.
Why can't he do Angry Again or something?
And I can't even find a version of his new signature with that gold metal V thing below the bridge.
Its in his contract lol.
I sometimes forget how fantastic the solo for this song is.

This songs kind of their Enter Sandman so I overlook it a lot. But truly this is a killer song. Solid gold. I should listen to it more.

Awsome song this is the song that got me into Megadeth. Hangar 18 is the song that made me a fan for life. Symphony has one of the best main riffs in metal though. I play guitar, and when I learned symphony all my friends thought I was a badass. 😆
@@randymiles904 haha yeah I know that feeling! Hangar is a certified banger!
Megadeths last album "Dystopia" is very reminiscent to the classic "Countdown To Extinction" album. If you want to hear another killer tune like Symphony you should check out the song "Post American World."

I like Dave a lot he's just a down to earth cool person!!👍😊🎸 what a great guitar player also love those riffs so cool and melodic
Dave I still got that guitar pick you threw out back in 92. It was one of the greasiest shows I’ve ever been to back in early 90s. It was at a place called the Strand in Providence R.I. and they killed it that night just a great show. 4 bands that night. I had 23 laser beam drinks and left that place bloody, sweating like a madman and just full of adrenaline. Hey thanks for the memories Dave . Sucks we get old but still love the music as if I just heard it.🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
"left that place bloody, sweating like a madman and just full of adrenaline" dude, that line perfectly sums up my 20's and that awesome decade (the 90's) ...what I wouldn't give to be able to take that ride again. Good times, great bands, and awesome memories!
There ya fuckin go.
Awesome
I’ll tell ya bud I’d take that ride again with you in a half a heartbeat.
I hope the pick wasn't too greasy, otherwise this might have affected your speed picking technique.
Awesome budd! Thanks for sharing
Remember back in 1992 when we sat our asses down for hours to try to figure this out ? :) -- Man ....I don't think anyone under 22 realises that :) -- Now you got the man who wrote the song teaching you how to play it :) --- Imagine Chopin sitting next to you on the Piano :)
I've played both Chopin and Megadeth, and can fully appreciate what you're saying.
Dave is a straight up guitar legend.
now teach tornado of souls!
Dave really digs into those strings you can hear it well over the amp.
That's the other part you need to understand.
Excellent tune
Yeah, first thing i noticed too. Heavy picker
"c h o k e i t"
Yeah like I've replied to a post above, the tuning down allows all these bands if they want to increase the string gauge, allowing them to really spank the rhythm stuff and also give a lovely metallic sustained tone. Well actually, I don't know whether that's what they actually do, but it's what I'd do. If I remember right. Haven't played guitar in this style myself for about 100 years. But tuning down and a nice set of 11's would be my idea if I was doing some major crunch stuff.
I mean you don't want your bottom e string lapping about like a whore's G string (see what I did there?) but take it as far as it'll go. Nice hint of flange and chorus and you now have a lovely tone to be proud of.
The guitarist of Killing Joke I always feel is a good place to start if you want to go old school, and you can see the way he does it, all over the fucking place with a hollow body and all kinds of weird stuff.
Those are my random guitar musings for today. You may or may not agree.
One of the best songs in metal, and probably the best metal solo ever made, even though people normaly pick Hangar 18 over this. Underrated but epic.
Marty Friedman (solo)... Jason Becker
Countdown to Extinction is chock full of knock-out songs. Besides Symphony of Destruction, I also love High Speed Dirt, Psychotron, Captive Honor and Ashes in Your Mouth.
What an awesome album.

So simple. But it's the little things. The way he plays it. He plays it for real, well he wrote it and when the rest of us play it? We are just mimicking. Because we didn't write it.
Yeah, wonderful, but he missed one thing: MEGADETH - MEGADETH - AGUANTE MEGADETH!

Awesome to see a true Maestro at work. I grew up in Hawthorne, CA in the 1980s listening to Dave's guitar gently scream. Now I watch the nightly news with the sound off whilst playing the Symphony of Destruction. Dave's prophetic words are coming true!

To those debating whether or not “Symphony of Destruction” could be considered Megadeth’s “Enter Sandman,” here’s my view of the whole thing…
Early in Megadeth’s career, whether it be intentional or purely coincidence, they practically mirrored Metallica’s releases “style” wise. Here are the albums Metallica would release, and the albums Dave would release just after, keeping the style VERY similar (but obviously debatable.) Once you get to 91/92, it’s very clear Megadeth’s Countdown is Metallica’s Black Album. Again, unless pure coincidence, Megadeth ALSO slowed their pacing way down, made a commercially heavy album with more radio airplay. Both have stand out smash hits with Sandman and Symphony. Both albums are the bands best selling albums. The similarities go on and on. Here’s the list below of the keep up game between the two….
1983- Metallica - Kill Em All
1985- Megadeth - Killing Is My Business…
1984- Metallica - Ride the Lightning
1986- Megadeth - Peace Sells
1986-Metallica - Master of Puppets
1988-Megadeth - So Far So Good
1988- Metallica - …and Justice for All
1990- Megadeth - Rust in Peace
1991- Metallica - Black Album
1992 - Megadeth - Countdown
Then Metallica’s Load and Reload are Megadeth’s Youthanasia and Cryptic Writings. Then when Metallica went a few years without an original album release, doing the symphony album and an album of covers, for the first time Megadeth didn’t have an original album to try and style their sound after, and what happened? I’ll give you a hint… they took a…*cough cough* RISK. ;)
These are just opinions, not all will agree, and you can nitpick whether the albums are similar or not, but you can’t deny there are things that make them sound similar. Maybe they’re just cut from the same cloth and both rule so they both make badass albums! I love both bands!
To me there’s no debate about which band is better, they’re different enough to offer something fresh to my ears that I love individually, I’ve just personally bundled their eras and albums together this way and thought it would be fun to share. Have a great day everyone!
I agree with 2 albums from each band, that ones i listen more, now that someone writed the similarities il analize the other albums. Tks for the info 🤘🤘🤘
I agree a little bit, but not in that detail. Personally, in terms of what the albums did for the band, I think Rust in Peace is Megadeth's Black Album. The change in tempo and style of the late 90s however, yeah that's a bit similar for both bands.
This was my shower thought a few months ago, I thought I was whacko for thinking
The styles of every megadeth and metallica albums are completely different. The only comparison that is somewhat viable is Black Album and Countdown, as metal was trying to be as massive as grunge, so many metal bands were changing to a more radio friendly style.

YOU'RE FORGIVEN
I met Mustaine at a restaurant once - we’d accidentally been given his table. Apparently he was fond of the restaurant and had a specific table he liked, and the management had messed up and gotten their days wrong, (it was Tuesday and they thought he was coming on Thursday or something like that). Anyway, the manager, completely embarrassed (this is a pretty nice restaurant) comes by and says “I’m so sorry, but we’d like to move you to another table if you could be troubled, and we’ll gladly compensate you for the cost of the meal and any other meal you’d like while you’re in town.” My sister and cousin were both like “Yeah that’s cool.” and I kind of played the asshole a bit. “I’m sorry, I just don’t understand. We’ve been here for 15 minutes - we’ve just ordered. Can’t we finish our meal here?” Then out of nowhere Mustaine shows up next to the manager and says “Paul, these guys can finish. We’ll be at the bar. I got some time.” And I (being a big Megadeth fan) said “Oh wow, uh… I had no idea. Please feel free to give them the table.” Mustaine was grateful, shook my hand and said thanks, then gave me a card with his number on it and told me to give him a call later. After working up the nerve, I gave him a call that night, and to make a long story short, we had a glorious 11 month love affair, man on man, that I shall never forget. Our bodies intertwined as one, and from the beauty of Frankfurt, to Shanghai, to the snorkeling in Boracay, Dave Mustaine and I made glorious gay love to each other on six of the seven continents.
