First time Surf Training Intermediate to Advanced Surfer at Lapoint surf camp2:24
Transition from Longboard to Shortboard: 7:58
I went from 9'4 longboard to 6'2 shortboard
American Learning how to Drive: 8:25
I brought a 9'4 longboard in July 2020 during the Pandemic and I love it! It was so fun and I started to get better at it. Portugal waves, at least in Ericeira, at Foz do Lizandro is more meant for shortboard this year. The waves are quite short, you cannot ride for too long and it's powerful, steep and fast.
It's my first time getting trained by a surf coach and see myself surfing on videos. I picked up a lot of mistakes during the past 3 years of surfing, and I am glad I get the chance to fix it.
In this episode I will share with you my surf progression from beginner to intermediate and hope my experience and my start of training can motivate you to go out in the water.
Feel free to leave any surf questions, I live in a surf camp now and there are many surf instructors here.

Hi, over 20yrs surfing experience and used to be an instructor. My takeaways:
    - For your bottom turn, it’s not enough to just lean to one side. You have to coil up, like a spring, bend your knees and drive your rail in.
    - Paddling HARD and powerfully is absolutely critical in small waves as that paddling speed carriers over to your first turn. Learn to paddle harder, aggressively and more powerfully.
    - You’re fighting and forcing the wave. This makes you surfing look “ugly”, don’t worry, it’s a common issue. You need to STAY IN THE POCKET, that’s where the power is.
    - You’re standing straight up and narrowing your stance during turns. This is a great way to burn your speed and drift off the back of a wave mid turn. Stay in the pocket, bottom turn into your manoeuvres and twist you shoulders hard in the direction you want to go.
    Best of luck

Glad your stoked. But your still a beginner. Don't paddle out somewhere if you know your not going to drop in. It's dangerous. Keep it up though you got it.

Honestly, the board type that fits that wave the best is a midlength with a low rocker and a singlefin. The wave isn't moving fast enough to make use of the side fins. Put the board in trim and let the rail line to all the work. Longer lines, more hula in your turns, stay WITH the wave instead of trying to outrun it.

Work on your pop up. You are popping up like on very mellow longboard waves. Pop up to your feet, not knees. Put more weight on your front foot. The whole front of your board is out of the water and you lose all your speed like that. You won’t need to pump if you get speed.

Let’s not get carried away with the video title, quite a claim. Maybe reword it, 2 months would never be beginner to advanced. Keep progressing though, always progressing.

Yeah def looks like your leaning back. Need more weight on the front foot and use your body not your foot thats why you are pumping. Ur great tho!
