      @@GrunkaLunka I reckon if techyescity, and other tech channels make a few more X58 vids, the prices will inflate. Just over a year ago, this guy pumped the x58 craze all by himself. Prices has came down since.
      I did do a bit of buying and selling x58 CPUs from AliExp to local market. Was fun while it lasted XD.
      What I noticed was, x5600 CPUs were more popular cuz they were used in this channel. The W3600 CPUs though faster, weren't as popular

      You can find some neglected pc with a x58 and some parts for pretty cheap if the Seller doesn't know what they have, because it's so old, you can bring down the price even lower.

    • @jyuan1999
      @jyuan1999 4 года назад +3

      @@mouaxiong8618 yea, it depends on the demand of your local market as well, back when it was released, and now.
      For me desktops are quite niche in my area, so people with these stuff knows their stuff. So then the best bet for me is to supply CPU upgrades (shipped from AliExp) instead of flipping the PC

Same mobo, 16g ocz ram(rip) Cleaned it up, threw in a x5660. It had a gtx 480. Replaced that with a rx580. I also tossed in a boot ssd. awesome that x58 still holds its own for the money.

    Just wanted to let you know you inspired me to build a budget pc.
    I actually built a similar system with that same motherboard off someone from Facebook marketplace about a year ago for $20 usd. It came with an i7 930, antec aio, basic thermaltake 430w psu, and was in a beat up thermaltake armor case. I put in 8gb ram I bought for $20, an EVGA GeForce 9800 GTX+ I bought for $5, and a 128 gb Kingston SSD I already had laying around.
    So for about $50 USD I ended up with a decent 10 year old pc. I built it with the intent to play older games like portal and half-life. Works pretty nice for what it is.

    • @rickylonghaul682
      @rickylonghaul682 4 года назад

      Sounds like you got a pretty solid deal out of that for your use-case. You could play newer games with a GPU upgrade (if you're into them). Last time I checked, GTX 660's could be had for like $37. Right now, there's an OEM RX 550 that's selling on eBay for about $45.
      I also understand not everyone plays newer games. Many new games are hot street trash anyway.

    • @Isthatchicken01
      @Isthatchicken01 4 года назад +1

      I considered getting a better cpu and gpu for that pc but I ended up saving for a newer and more capable pc. The new pc I just built has a ryzen 7 2700x and Sapphire rx 580 8gb. I built it cause I wanted to play VR and newer games at higher settings. My new build cost me under $900 including an oculus rift cv1. Some parts I bought used but I wanted more new ones which I waited until Black Friday to purchase. Oh and it has lots of RGB (cause why not)

      and you also risking, that 10 year old mobo stops working, unless you buy new one, which is almost imposible to get.
      Then, you basicaly lost all money you spared in comparsion to ryzen 5 2600x, because you have to buy new computer and you weren't protected by warranty.
      Not to mention, the longer you are going on that old build, the more dollars you pay for electricity bill, that in final step lessering gap between new ryzen 5 build. And if you decide to use it longterm, the chance, that motherboard will break on highly overclocked system only rising, these motherboards will fall one by one, after like they reach 12-15 years, while new ryzen 5 2600 build would go 5 years almost sure, and then, AM4 can be even expanded with new generations of ryzen, while mobo will hold with good chance even after 5 years. You can hazard with your money, but some people will pay a lot of price, for risking this way with 10-12 year old X58 motherboards.

    My main box after I retired my ancient AMD 1090t was a 1366 with a I7980. That thing even being 5 years out of date was so much faster at encoding video compared to the amd that I never looked back. My buddy builds systems and office networks and repairs for a living and he got the chip for 100 bucks from his supplier for 100 bucks because it was old and never got sold. He later gave it to me for helping him with his house and scrapping leftover pc's he took in on trade. We save everything usable and recycle the rest. It had 16 gig of ram and I later added a gtx 1070 gtx 8 gig to bring it completely up to speed for cheap. I use it as my windows 7 video capture box on win7 64 and a cable card 3 tuner card. My 10 box got upgraded to a 2011 with a 4960x i7 and 32 gig from the same friend a few years later when he got some better boxes in trade he sold a while back. It's about 25 percent faster than the other box and the board is more up to date and supports usb3 and lots of sata ports. Either setup would be a great budget game box or video encoding box. I upgraded that box from the quad core i73820 that was slightly slower than the old 980 for reasonably cheap with a included top end Asus board that had minor issues but now works stable.

    2)
    64gb of ECC DDR3 RAM is now $60 on eBay. A 12-core Xeon can be had for $195. While it may not perform quite as well as a Ryzen 9 3900x, you can build an X79 12-core system for half the price. Don't worry so much about the lower IPC on the older chips...what games care about more when it comes to SMOOTHNESS is having the *right* number of cores and threads.
    I think my next system is going to be an X79 Xeon. Games are becoming more and more able to use higher-core-count CPUs...Tech Deals has reported a few games now using 8 real cores, and Brian didn't you say CSGO can use up to 28 cores (don't remember if you said cores or threads)? I do agree with Tech Deals (to an extent) that in the near future, we're probably going to blow through higher and higher core counts pretty quickly as coding parallelization becomes more common.

    Two comments for me mates.
    1) At some point this year, I built myself an X58 Xeon X5675 with a GTX 1660 TI and 24gb of RAM in triple channel. I haven't been able to overclock it at all (I've updated the BIOS, so I think it's something wrong with the BIOS chip itself), but it hasn't even mattered.... At stock speeds, in CPU-bound scenarios this system out-performs my previous build which had a Ryzen 7 1700 OC'd to 3.8ghz (lost the silicon lottery there) and 16gb of DDR4 2666mhz OC'd to 2933mhz. FPS in GTA V went from 45fps (worst areas)/100fps (best areas) to 55fps (worst areas)/ 150fps (best areas). Star Wars Battlefront 2 (2017) also so an uptick in performance, going from 75fps (worst areas)/ 110fps (best areas) to 80fps (worst areas)/ 150-190fps (best areas) on the Xeon. I don't remember if I tested Rise of the Tomb Raider on my Ryzen system, but on the Xeon system, it gets about 45fps (worst areas) to 115fps (best areas). Also, when the Modern Warfare Beta came out (I didn't buy the game afterwards), my X5675 was getting between 75fps and 115fps...which is almost exactly (maybe barely higher) than I saw other people on RUclips running with their new Ryzen CPUs.
    There's a trend here. People will tout Cinebench scores allllllll day long on new Ryzen CPUs, because synthetic tests show it having better performance, but at the end of the day what matters to me is how well it ACTUALLY games (I don't use my PC for anything else). Even with the theoretical lower IPC, my 'old' Xeon still outperforms many newer systems. This has got to be due to developers focusing on programming for Intel CPU architecture for so long. This may change overtime as Ryzen is taking the lead now, but currently it's how things are.

    I'm still using my GA-X58-UD3R (R2) motherboard from 2010 with a Xeon and it's doing well, but that motherboard has issues with USB3 and SATA so I recommend at least getting a SATA expansion for it if anyone wants to build using one. The on board SATA is very slow. I'm also using a Samsung 950 PRO NVME in one of the PCIE slots as the boot disk.

      Screw Greg Salazar. I'm aware this is going to be an unpopular opinion, but at least read it.
      His content is fine, it's him as a person I take issue with (which is weird, it's usually the other way around with anyone else). I've never once attacked him, yet every time I've posted a comment on one of his videos, his jumped my ass to try and fight with me about it. It's such a weird thing to see a RUclipsr do.
      Also, if you attend his Q&A streams, you may notice if someone asks a question he's done a video on, he WILL NOT answer the question. He'll say "go watch the video I did on it" instead of taking two seconds to say "yes" or "no" to anyone. Every other tech tuber will at least give you a really quick tl;dr answer and then say something like "if you want more info, you can go watch the video I did on it" which to me is WAY more respectful to their viewers. I mean, they took the time to show up to his stream and interact with it, and he won't take the time to throw them a quick answer.
      tl;dr
      Greg is disrespectful to his viewers.

    I got the x5670 2 years ago on eBay for $50 and put it in the Asus P6T Deluxe to replace my ancient i7 920. Running it at 4Ghz with no issues. Only downside to it is the power draw, which I imagine is substantial compared to something like the 3700x. Scared to even check what the exact difference is.

    Wanted to build R5 3600 recently to give my Rampage II gene + X5650@4,1GHZ a sell, but potential delivery wise, not sure if that is a step that high. Using machine for gaming, Graphics and DAW and still, it seems i like too much. No idea how much better would be video encoding if I would swithch to video making... I will probably sell Ryzen CPU after arrival or build a system on it and selling that to someone. X58 is quite a character platform and especially my little Gene II. So cool due size and no need of big case.
