Hey guys, Logan here. I'm seeing so many comments regarding how old my PC is, and for context, we don't have the money for a huge $1000/$2000 PC, so I got it from someone who builds PCs out of passion. He didn't seem to have much money either, but it was enough to make me happy at the time. I've also seen comments regarding the upgrades at the end. I definitely did not expect him to upgrade it for no extra cost, and I am still super thankful for Danny because of it. Fantastic video!
Dont pay attention to some of those comments. For some, they think everyone needs an i9 and 4090, which is.. insane. Your happiness with the PC is the only that matters when it comes to your PC, not these other buttheads.
I would have told the kid "Yes, you do owe me this. That you use this computer for ONLY SCHOOL WORK, you cannot play games on it EVER" I like to see his face drop. 🙂
Nothing like people purchasing hundreds.. and hundreds of dollars for components.. and then purchases a damn Power Supply on Temu or some other site.. COME ON PEOPLE!
My issue was this exact reason when building and buying parts for a brand new pc. I bought a chinese knockoff power supplys for like 60 quid thinking it will be fine but it nearly blew up my computer lol i had to change its to a corsair rm750 rgb for 80 quid and never had issues again. This reminds me of my first build its a learning step i took and thank god it was early in my pc building expeirence not when i have a expensive as hell pc. I was taught never cheap out on a psu 😂😂
I have 10 years with a crappy psu and.. last year my gpu died. Maybe it was the psu. It was a gtx 760, it used the six and eight pin connections for the 180w supply. Maybe no brand psu is good for lighter use. Also I have to mention that I had to replace the fans inside a couple of times, maybe that is neccesary in any brand, 8 years is too much time for a fan.
This is why you're my favorite tech channel. You're family raised You with compassion and generosity. If you were my kid I'd be proud of the stuff you do for people. From strangers to friends and family. Karma will treat you well.
You overlooked the possibility of gpu not been seated properly. Had similar problem with my gpu. All I had to do was reseat it properly. Sometimes we rush to reassemble the pc after brushing, dusting or repasting whether the cpu or gpu that we don’t pay that much attention on every single detail. Happens even to very experienced professionals.
This. After all the testing this was the only logical conclusion BEFORE stating is was a combination of old and used GPU and potential weak PSU. Al the shown test proof non of those seemed to be an issue (gpu worked fine, as did the PSU). The only thing i dont see is after all the test that he put back the original GPU. In years of use there is a small potential degration of contact my means of mosture and corrosion. Reseating cards, cables, ram... its basic troubleshooting and its the only thing that the video isn't showing to be done.
In my experience I check all pci e slots first as I have come across alot of people who don't clean them before jamming in a new gpu, always check before installation guys.
I'm pretty sure this is the issue as well. At 11:23 he plugged his known/working power supply up to the rig and it still crashed. I've learned through a lot of painful trial and error in life to start simple and never jump ahead. Good on Danny to try and help, and he likely would have needed upgrades sooner rather than later anyway.
So many people can't afford a good computer let alone any computer. That upgrade was great for him. He was happy with a 7870 he will be over the moon on a 580. Great job. Most of the computing world doesn't use newer hardware and are perfectly happy. Its other people unhappiness that brings hate comments.
the real issue is so many people aren't willing to work and save for a computer or parts, because their lazy!! MOST not all of course as some have other issues that prevent them from making money. It's not hard to save a few thousand dollars if you really want it. My son and his friends made $500 in a week going around washing neighbor hood cars and windows lol it just takes less lazy. you could alos work nights for a few months at a fast food joint or restaurant to make the extra cash then quit.
@@toddblankenship7164 THIS. THIS BEHAVIOR. WHY does it EVEN MATTER? It's behavior like this that is the cause of so many people jumping in and out of PC Gaming on the regular. Because they're berated by people saying they're lazy, have a bad system, blah blah. When in reality, a lot of it could simply be priorities, and the user just wanting to ride or die a system out. I have the money to build a whole new rig. Though I have an R5 3600X & a GTX 1650. Do I want something new? Hell no, the system still runs fine and satisfies MY NEEDS. Until my system stops booting, or I find a drastically good deal on a GPU, I really don't care nor need anything new.
@@kanitsrvng ya me too, I also have the money to buy cutting edge but thats retarded I upgrade smart. And the excuse that its too expensive is weak and almost always due to lazy, I'd bet the farm on it.
@@toddblankenship7164 a few thousand? sure, for a kid that has no bills to pay and doesn't have to buy groceries or gas or anything, that's achievable in a couple months. those of us with mediocre jobs and expenses aren't going to save up for a year or more to get 14th Gen i9's and RTX 4090s. I can throw together a perfectly capable rig for $600. quite a bit less if I stay on the lookout for deals and used or refurbished hardware no rational adult that makes less than $30/hr is going for a top shelf build. if you are, you need to get your priorities straight, unless you're a successful streamer or something along those lines. nobody else really needs to be able to run everything on ultra settings. go with a mid build and use that spare cash to improve your situation in life. invest it in your vehicle, an appliance that needs replaced, invest in ETF's or (low risk) stocks or something. do not put it in a PC that rapidly depreciates in value unless you can actually afford to lose a few grand without it having a major impact on your life
Beautiful content man. Seeing the teen light up because of your genuine generosity was great to see. Nothing feels better than giving back to your community
Please don't let commenter's affect (discourage) your level of generosity. The kid was obviously used to that level of gaming, and it was a four-generation / 6gb vram leap over his current graphics card. That's literally more than he could have imagined, and I, for one, applaud you for paying attention. You saw his situation and understood that even replacing his gpu with your same sku card, would likely solve his issue, but then took a step further and potentially safeguard the rest of his parts by replacing his well-aged psu. His reaction is payment enough. He was so excited. You absolutely made his day. THAT'S WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT!
My theory: Bad powersupply (out of ATX spec powersupply). 12v Dips on powerspikes on the GPU since its single rail, Psu doesnt react fast enough/out of spec and mainboard simply cant handle the voltage dip without the PSU "racting" fast enough. This can happen due to Board design of the lightning. Basically the high end Powerdelivery on the lightning comes as a detriment, as it can handle more power due many small resistors with less capacitance, but the smaller resistors cannot buffer out powerusage spikes because of that and rely on the PSU for "assistance", which is usually no issue, but the PSU is a very shady one, voltage dip too high on anything above e.g. 350w and the PSU needs to adjust until Voltage is stable, just takes too long and mainboard becomes unstable. Hope it makes sense to anyone
PSU was fine. The GPU sag and symptoms point to bad PCIE seating. Maybe badly seated. An anti-sag bracket fixed my 5700xt with VERY similar issues. PCIE is touchy and you can get to windows with a poorly slotted card only to see it crash in 3D apps. Exactly like the video. Also explains why it worked when reseated in a different board. 550w was plenty for that card. Total system draw would be around 300w under load and wouldn't break 400w even with heavy overclocking..... The seating issue opened my eyes about PCIE connectivity. My 5700xt system hasn't crashed since installing an anti-sag bracket that cost about 50cents to 3d print
its not your obligation to help anyone out so its pretty crazy anyone would say anything about giving older parts could of easily diagnosed the problem told him what he needed and called it a day good video as always and nice of you to hook him up he seemed really grateful
Gaming on a budget. One day that kid will have an absolute beast of a computer but hes just in his early stages. Awesome to see tbh. Computer is basically ewaste in 2024 but hes doing his best.
This was the most well articulated video I've seen from this channel, especially with the cut where you showed pulling up to give him back the PC like it was the end shots, and then beamed to building him some good stuff to help him get into PC's more. Good stuff man, keep up the good content and you got a new sub from a second channel that doesn't sub to stuff.
Helping the community even if its for a video is something i will always apreciate! Thanks alot for helping this kid man! You earned yourself a sub for that. Stay good man.
You made that kids year, Thanks for helping him out, He honestly just wanted some help from a person he trusts, and you went above and beyond, Good on you!
My guess is the GPU needed to be reseated. I have run into that issue several times. I have also run into an issue with system memory not working correctly and it be something as simple as they need reseated or the CPU cooler is screwed down too tight. Just in the last day or two I had all 4 ram sticks in a secondary rendering machine and while task manager and the bios recognized all 4 sticks, only two of the ram sticks was being used. It turns out that two of the ram sticks because they were sitting outside the machine for a year, the traces had just enough oxidation that prevented all the traces from making proper contact with the ram slot. I couldn't see the oxidation with my eye but under a magnifying glass I could. I just used a piece of 300 grit sandpaper and lightly ran it across the traces once or twice and then wiped it off with a clean cloth. Suddenly the issue is gone. I have had the same issue with GPUs that have been sitting outside a machine without the little plastic cover that goes over the connector.
Hope he reads this. Probably doesn't need to do anything so drastic as sandpaper, though, a gentle connector clean and reseating could/should have done the job.
@@techassimilate I think he wanted to give the guy the 580 and a better PSU. Probably would have given him that regardless. As far as the sandpaper I used, I only did so after a cloth on the connector and repeated reseating wasn't working and it was an extremely fine grit.. I was beginning to think the MB or the CPU was failing. In 2020 I dropped that CPU on my desk and bent about a dozen pins and then spent several hours trying to delicately bend them straight with an exacto blade. It's an old b350m asrock and a ryzen 5 1600x.
The last time I had problems with my main pc running for 5 minutes at first then less time. To basically reboot after reboot. I am lucky after years of building computers , I had my back up computer to game with my brother that night. We have over 30 years of gaming each and still look forward to our Red dead redemption nights. Turns out it was exactly what you said I took out 2 sticks of ram and now its been rock solid every since.
@@TheAlans44 In almost every case it's a bad cable or lose connection. I have rarely seen genuine hardware failures that randomly happen. Glad you and your brother got to continue your gaming.
Great video, halfway through. Had to comment about his T-shirt at the start brought back a sad time, many of you will recognise his T-shirt as fast as I did. RIP Technoblade. Still haven't forgotten.
I didn't really watch Technoblade back then, but he was a member of the Dream SMP, which was what I loved watching because it was trending at the time, but as soon as I heard about his death, I was devastated. That's why I got that shirt, because as a Minecraft fanatic, the impact he had made throughout the Minecraft community was huge, and this was to honor his legacy. Technoblade Never Dies.
You earned a sub from me. This was a good video from beginning to end. I almost gave you criticism for giving him his old pc back, but we got me good and that was so awesome of you to do! W's to you! Also, I appreciate that you went into the event viewer to see if you could diagnose what cause the PC to crash. I'm not familiar with event viewer and I have a AM4 motherboard with a 5800X that randomly resets while livestreaming...I'm not joking. I can do anything else on that PC with no problem, but once I livestream, that's when it will randomly restart. It doesn't happen every time, but it happened enough times that I upgraded to AM5 with a 9700x.
New to this channel. That problem stumped me completely too, but it was ultimately the PSU like I thought right away. Didn't expect you to completely refresh most of the computer though for him, that was very nice to see! At his age that would have meant the WORLD to me and now he can play most modern games. "HAVE YOU EVER PEELED" got me haha.
What an awesome video. You helped that young man with the upgraded parts. Been watching your videos for the past couple of years and really enjoy them. Thank you for the good content.
GPU is getting worn out and can't handle the unstable power from the cheap PSU. You nailed it. In fact, it is probable that dirty power from the cheap PSU is why the GPU is degrading in the first place. An RX580 may not seem impressive to a PC snob but when you look at it from a statistical standpoint, you doubled his rasterization performance and quadrupled his VRAM. You opened up the door for him to play some AAA titles that were released in this decade, something a 7870 won't do because of the DX feature level.
not 100% sure he nailed it, i think its a 2 part issue with hotspot temp due to old card dry paste/dirty power causing more heat. only if he repastes that gpu and issue persists would i be 100% sure he nailed it. and the way the guy described the issue getting worse over time, it would make sense.
This is really super generous of you to do this for him. Many many props to both you and Logan. I was in his spot over a decade ago, grabbing things from old recycled desktops, grabbing deals off of eBay, etc, etc.
This is one of your best videos. I was expecting you to trade him 7870s and stick a better PSU in there. That’s awesome you really hooked him up. Keep up the good work.
Dude seriously you made my day people like you are so special, you are amazing and thank you for being such an awesome person. Logan didn't ask for anything other than to find out why his PC was crashing. Not only did you find the problem but you helped Logan with the upgrade that he needed and more. Love the video homie.
Absolutely love this video glad you were able to help out my man logan, reallly cool and fun to watch you stress test his pc as I learn more about pc keep it up!!!
I love this kind of content ! Good Job helping out a kid in need. I'm so sick of seeing content on the latest and greatest PC hardware that most people cannot afford just so youtubers can make money ! Excellent 10/10 !!!
TLDR; Check crash logs, try removing some ram, try individual ram, reseat ram. Remove the GPU if it has internal onboard GPU then try that to test if it's stable. Dust the motherboard, inspect all chips and see if they have any type of debris. The key diagnostics is to determine if it is hardware or software. A good start is to ensure that you have updated drivers test with a known good OS clean copy on a known-good working hard drive. Get the computer into minimal config where it can run and then add components gradually into it checking for the crash. Ensure your thermal heating is proper fresh in your heat sink or cooling system is working adequately. Sometimes you have a crappy power supply, and if failed capacitor could cause power issues. Good catch testing the PSU and GPU.
You're the best Danny. Watching someone react to a repaired machine or a new build are some of my favorite kinds of videos. The happiness on that kid's face was all worth it.
that's so cool of you helping the kid mate! For the troubleshooting, my first gut was their was something wrong with his hard drive as maybe it has too many bad sectors already that could not be repaired by reformatting/reinstalling/doing check disk, etc.
i wasnt sure about your channel but after this good onya i reckon that was very nice of you to upgrade the kids comp you can see he has min money and the rx 580 imo is 1 of the best budget cards around. top marks to you. and to top it off you left him the peel very nice
I think you did a very special thing for Logan who really needed a break. I've also been an on-site service tech for the past 25 years. Back when Windows 95 was new. I have also done something very similar to this kind of charity many times for kids who love gaming but have not had a good enough PC or no PC at all. It was always out of my own pocket (and sometimes the parents would chip in.) and from my spare parts surplus I built up. I love to see their smile light up when revealing the surprise. I bet Logan will be up late for days have fun playing all the games he couldn't until now thanks your kind heart. Great work!
Pausing at 19:51 to say... just the act of removing and reseating the graphics card probably fixed it. Either that or maybe the power rail on his power supply isn't enough and your card draws less power.
I'm watching this after hurricane helene hit and finally got cell service (i made sure my family was safe first) and this makes my heart smile, glad you're in a spot to help people out like this Danny. Much love bro
To answer your question I saw it coming because 9x out of 10 when a RUclipsr makes a video about helping someone fix their really old PC they usually just upgrade them for free.
yea not only does it help out the person in need but it also makes for great content, basically paying for the upgrades. i'm all for content like this if the youtuber helps out people who actually need the help
@@scaredbtw3666 i mean he's not a very big youtuber i doubt he rakes in that much money, and an rx 580 is still very respectable today. u don't need 2k worth of parts for school and some gaming, and smth like an rtx 4080 would probably jus get bottlenecked by the 3rd gen i7 anyways. enthusiast parts are for the enthusiasts that has the money for it

Hey nerdonabudget! you did a spot on great job, my friend! My first suspect Number 1 was 100% the Power Supply. Once you see a System crash with little load, seemingly out of nowhere, the Power Supply is in most cases the culpable. Here's a pretty good parable to understand the problem here: think of a Race Car that with a too narrow Gasoline line to in combination with insufficient air supply. The Engine will simply shut down once you step a little bit to much on the gas, it's as simple as that. Really love and appreciate very much that you helped Logan out, since he's a still a Student and on a small budget. Everybody has once been there and that's how we are supposed to be to our Brothers an Sisters. Helping each other according to everybodys abilitys and skills! When your heart tells you to do help somebody, just do it and don't make a big deal out of it.
I've been a System Analyst, electronic engineer and computer hobbyist for over thirty years now. Based on watching this video, I'd say your diagnosis was exactly correct. Degraded video card with iffy (and degraded) power supply. I love your repair /upgrade. Very appropriate fix.
I was kinda expecting you to upgrade him but then forgot towards the end so your rewind was pretty entertaining. You’re a legend. I hope Logan enjoys it and has a good time working in the H5 flow. Thanks for being such a cool dude.
Thank you, Danny, for this video! I genuinely appreciate the twist, definitely didn't see it coming, and it made me feel so good that you did it. I also agree with the idea that your UPS was cleaning up power delivery to the system for the initial troubleshooting attempts. I would recommend using it in the future when testing systems at home.
you can find some rad stuff on FB market. but you're right theres always a risk with older/used stuff. ive bought and sold tons of pc's on there and generally pc nerds are pretty honest good people not looking to rip someone off. never once did I get something that didnt work or wasnt what it was advertised as. that being said on a system like this there are going to be risks with old stuff. this almost looks like the guy that made it for him put all of his spare parts together.
First time to watch a video of yours man, this was like watching deadpool 2, it's not about saving the world it's about making someone's life better... I pray for more blessings to come to your life Danny and your family. The world needs more people like you.
Love the video! This was my first video I've seen from your channel and I love that you went out of your way to help Logan. Got yourself another subscriber for sure
So this PC has a 3770 CPU with a 7870. Please advise Logan that soon the system he has needs to be updated. I'd hate to see him waste money. Nice way to end this with the upgrades!!
It got upgraded, and an i7-3770 and RX 580 is not a bad system at all for 1080p. Also not everyone has the money, he didn't even have the money for a $25 GPU. Those specs are completely fine for most people especially with an SSD.
@@charliesretrocomputing I agree but in one years time a 3770 can't handle Windows 11. I was thinking that this would be difficult for Logan to handle if he upgraded his older PC.
@@charliesretrocomputing I had an Rx 570 and some basic four core AMD CPU, and 16gb of ddr4. I will say this though, it’s better to get something like a 2060/ 3060 to have a more future proof system as well as a better processor. Or just buy a console, an rx 580 won’t be running any newer titles and forget about gta 6
What an amazing video! You got your own video to share with us, You helped someone in need. Did a pretty good job in finding the problem. And suprised the kid with a big upgrade. And this kid. He's awesome. And a happy awesome kid now :)
It's probably required to reseat the GPU on the old system. We wanted to see a test where you put back everything to test to see if it fixed the crashing problem
The PSU (Power Supply Unit) is possibly not supplying enough power for the machine potentionally causing it to crash. My advice would be to get a 850W PSU and you'll be good to go in most cases using modern graphics cards and processors. Just a safe choice to use modular PSU they are great!
W video bro, I like how you ended up helping him with some little upgrades I know he appreciated it! These are the types of videos I like seeing it also kinda teaches us how to benchmark if we run into any problems!

Oh man. I remember when one of my clients had exactly the same issue, and I thought it was the PSU... You know what it was? The bloody power button being faulty. Literally pennies on a dollar part.... He brought it to two different shops before I had a go at it, and both of the shops just gave up and said they couldn't diagnose the issue, and that "it's likely faulty motherboard, and why don't we sell you a new PC, that will fix the issue" LOL
I had the exact same issue with crashing when I bought my 7900XTX. I had an older corsair PSU that had the proper wattage to run the card, but it was not compliant with ATX 3.0 standards. The issue being with the newer GPU's they ramp up in power needs much faster between idle and load, and the older PSU's can't do it. They simply can't switch the power fast enough to supply the card which leads to a crash.
I really appreciate what you did for Logan. It reminded me of my teenage years when I was really into gaming and building PCs. I live in a third-world country, and at the time, there wasn’t much of a market for PC parts. It was really hard to find good parts, and not to mention, they were expensive too (though they still are, kek). I also didn’t know much about things like bottlenecking or balancing a build. My gaming PC back then had a Quad Core Q9650, 16GB of DDR3 RAM, and an NVIDIA 1GB graphics card. It was enough to run some of the games I really enjoyed playing around the early 2010s. I kept that PC until about four years ago when I had to sell it and add some money to buy a laptop for my studies-which I’m using right now to type this comment, kek. Sorry for writing such a long paragraph and boring you with my story, but I just want to say how happy and grateful I am for what you’re doing to help people like Logan. I pray that God blesses you with health, wealth, and more resources so you can continue helping even more people. Thanks for taking the time out of your busy life to read this, kek.
To everyone who is putting mean comments, this lad didn't ask for a new upgrade, he just wanted his pc to stop crashing, he's smile said everything and he is indeed happy, the way he said "do you want anything in return" warmed my heart, I started out with a dell OptiPlex that had a core i5 ddr3 and a GTX 750 TI, great video mate and you've made this lad's day happy, take no notice of the mean comments lad, Enjoy your new pc and game and do your work for school
Very nice thing to do. I don't have 1/100 th the PC knowledge that you have, but unfortunately, my family and friends have even less, so I am often stuck trying to solve their PC problems, phone problems, etc. I know how frustrating it can be and to do it for free was very nice. Doing it for free for family and friends is one thing but for a comoplete stranger is a much bigger deal. Providing him with a new system was the icing on the cake. Thanks for being a good guy. There are not enough good guys out there.
This made my day. Brought back so much memories back when i started dreaming of building my own computer. I used to struggle with budget and all, now I have one.
Dude. Bro was running on really old Hardware and was definitely appreciative of the Upgrade. Well deserved! Keep rocking brother, work with what you got, i would be hyped about that new Hardware too.
First video of yours that I’ve seen and when you had the same card on hand not being used I was like this man’s totally just gonna replace his parts for free, the upgrade was a surprise and was super awesome of you, kid seemed very sincere and could tell from his body language he wasn’t just trying to be on a video or looking for a handout
If his GPU was failing as you suspected, regardless of your power supply, it will fail on yours as well, at least eventually. Since you stressed it on your PC, it would have failed on yours as well. My guess is that you unseated and reseated the graphics card. It may have been loose? But you’re a cool guy for upgrading him. Great job.
You are probably right because the card was still crushing in his system even with a better PSU. The better PSU only helped when it was in a completely different system and the only thing that changed is the card being removed from it's place.

@@paddlesouth Windows 11 Has an issue with your statement
@@toddblankenship7164
THIS.
I can throw together a perfectly capable rig for $600. quite a bit less if I stay on the lookout for deals and used or refurbished hardware
no rational adult that makes less than $30/hr is going for a top shelf build. if you are, you need to get your priorities straight, unless you're a successful streamer or something along those lines. nobody else really needs to be able to run everything on ultra settings. go with a mid build and use that spare cash to improve your situation in life. invest it in your vehicle, an appliance that needs replaced, invest in ETF's or (low risk) stocks or something. do not put it in a PC that rapidly depreciates in value unless you can actually afford to lose a few grand without it having a major impact on your life
Beautiful content man.
Where do you see any negative comments about that tho?
@@jeremyniels He mentioned in the video at the end that people have made negitive comments about giving away older or used components.

Much respect for helping this kid out especially when he so proactive on upgrading it himself. He deserved it
My theory: Bad powersupply (out of ATX spec powersupply).
@@TheAddanz 100% agree with you. These symptoms reek of a poorly seated card/power connection.

so wholesome he was genuinely happy and really appreciated the upgrades. he was so happy good to see little things make ppl so happy.

That upgrade will allow him to play anything full specs on 1080p. Thats a very solid way of enjoying games.

Kind and compassionate.. well done brother for helping this kid out. You're a star. You made his day and he was genuinely grateful.😊😊
I'm taking a guess that removing and cleaning the contact points of the GPU and reinstalling might have taken care of the problem.
That is so awesome that you hooked up this young man that loves gaming but cant afford it. Good on you sir on passing it forward.

If this was the case, why did it crash again on a different PSU?

This video was legit, I love how you played it off as you didn’t help and went back and showed us the upgrade path he is gonna love it
What an absolute upgrade, thanks to this guy who just saved someone from that old pc. Logan definitely deserved that worthy upgrade.
