As a small fixed blade I really love the White River Backpacker Pro in S35VN. Ergonomics, quality and fit & finish are outstanding. Highly recommended. My favourite large fixed blade is the Esee 6, it's just an amazing hard use tool.
I'm my experience it's ideal as long as you aren't fussy about keeping it looking like new because the coating holds absolutely spec of dirt and won't let it go no matter how much you scrub it with a toothbrush
Esee is such a great company. You are buying more than a knife. The owners are heavily involved in the knife world and bring tremendous value as well as running a world class survival school. I’m always down to support companies like that! I love me esee 3. But I’m hoping my xm-18 thats in the mail will replace it in my end of the world 2 knife combo paired with the esee junglas. I mean, if a junglas and a xm-18 can’t get the job done, can it even be done at all?
This makes sense. I just got the Izula 2 and when I first tested it in my hand I was blown away at how good the handle feels. It really does feel like an extension of your hand. Clearly built by people who know their stuff.
The ring is for a carabiner or a rope loop, they use them for technical rope rescue! Also, they numbered each knife as they were made, so it's identifiable for warranty purposes.
I love my uncoated Izula 2. It's just a perfect size, tough and easy to sharpen (but it definitely doesn't hold an edge for too long if you're cutting a lot of boxes). They're a bit pricey for what they are, but, you're probably paying a bit for that awesome warranty. I'll probably buy a S35VN one at some point.
I love mine, The only gripe is that many good companies don't put much effort into designing a decent sheath, it seems almost an afterthought, I wouldn't mind paying a little more for a good sheath. I got the Architect one and it's just right .
This is my EDC. Fits perfectly in the front pocket of jeans. In the Summer it stick out a bit with shorts... but oh well. Always another option I guess. I think it's the best in the Oxide version they make. I've tried it in the coated version as well, the oxide is best.
I started with a TOPS Mini Scandi 2.5 but found it doesn’t offer what I wanted from a small fixed blade. I do enjoy the short blade and longer handle of the izula2.
This a great knife and company. They have made the Izula in S35VN which ive come to appreciate as one of my preferred stainless steels. I find the Izula 2 as a better size for me. Thus I’m hoping Esse decides to make the Izula 2 in S35VN. I’ll note that my 1095 Izula 2 has been awesome and takes a beating. Another similar blade is the White River Back Packer M1 Pro & Caper version with micarta scales in S35VN. Ergoes are great similar size to the Izula 2 but exceedingly more expensive. Great review.
In my experience, it excels in cutting through live wood for tasks where you don’t care how clean the cut is, as in removing brush. It also batons like a champ so long as what you are batoning isn’t too much thicker than the blade is long. But as a general-use EDC, the main difficulty that I’ve had with it is that is doesn’t want to start slicing. I often times load up lots of pressure on it, and then it suddenly bursts through whatever I am cutting. I’ve hit myself with it more than once doing this, but never cut myself. As an EDC knife, it does best as a last-ditch heavy duty cutting tool. For broader use, I think you’d want something in its size and weight, but with a thinner blade and no coating.
For me the main attraction to the Izula is the size and 1095 steel. I like the fact it's easy to sharpen anywhere, without special stones or systems. I think it's ideal for lightweight outdoor travel such as backpacking or cycle touring, when weight or loss can be decision factors. It seems to fit a niche that many other quality blades can't fit, because of price or wide availability as a trust worthy production piece. I mean, I'd hate to loose or damage my nicer blades but somehow it isn't quite as heartbreaking with the Izula.
I think the ESEE Xancudo is the best edc fixed blade. It has s35vn, a slightly better handle, and no potentially unhealthy blade coating. It has a very similar sheath to the Izula, which is a really really nice sheath for EDC, especially if you like to carry inside the waistband.
Yes, The Esee Xandudo is a great edc fixed blade, however, over the last 2 years I have discovered some other ones I like just as much. The Esee Ashley Game Knife is another one that's in some ways an improvement on the Xancudo. I also like the Sencut Waxahachie and Spyderco Street Beat lightweight.
Great knives. Love them all I have the izula 1 and 2 and the s35vn with g10 grips on it. Also an esee 4. They are my outdoor knives. For edc I use my Bradford guardian 3 sheep afoot in m390 with the blue contoured g10 handles. Such an epic edc fixed blade. If I wanted another edc fixed blade I’d go with a bark river like the featherweight fox river or the mini bravo.
The thing about the warranty that people don’t get is that you can buy a old and broken one for one dollar and send it in to get a new one. Most people I knew bought their Victorinox knives broken and get a new one replaced for free…
I love my red 1095 Izula...Aside for one thing. The red paint rubs off on sharpening stones, so I have to use a stone just for it because it annoys me. I saw they have an uncoated one in s35vn now (for about 75$)...I might get it.
If you don't have huge hands, if you neck carry or deep pocket carry, if you don't expect to use it of extended periods while wearing gloves, the original izula is better imo. The Izula 2 handle would be great if used on the bk14 eskabar, where the blade length justifies a longer handle.
I have an ESEE 4 in s35vn that i love. It sits right between the two most popular ESEE knives, the esee3 and the esee5. Is s35vn a good choice for fixed blade steel in everyones opinion? Is it tough enough
love these small neccable knaf videos! ESEE Candiru next please ;) take your time though Oh! oh! almost forgot, the Xancudo (fixed) vs Zancudo Folder would ROCK
I keep losing knifes I’m very interested in sheath retainment. Floating rivers ,deer hunting,I just tend to have them fall out of sheath at some point. I was leaning towards Gerber principle because of sheath. I like this knife better but it’s useless if it’s laying in the weeds somewhere. Any comments on sheath quality would be appreciated.
Hello RUclips Hivemind, I have a question: I’ve been wanting a Giant Mouse GMF1 in m390, but they have been a ghost and can’t get one. Looking for small edc to wear around town, I have others for camping/ hunting/etc. Anyone out there have experience with this one and how it compares to use?
check out the benchmade hidden canyon, qsp woraholic, real steel apex cormorant, izula in s35vn, bradford guardian 3.5, esee candiru, tops otter, a few others from tops, and some more i cant think of. id recommend anything from tops or the hidden canyon for your specific tasks.
Love this knife but seriously doesn't hold an edge. I've used this knife daily at work and I don't just cut boxes for a living. For edc; it's a toss for me between this and the TOPS Baghdad Bullet. Although, I rely mainly on the Tops this is still an excellent knife. Love the comfort and size.

Yeah, they do get dirty and scratched up fast. I like seeing the wear over time tho so it doesn't really bother me
@@chimchu3232 yea wear over time is nice but I really hate having a knife that looks like it was up a hobos ass after the first use 🤣
A 70$ harbor freight ultrasonic cleaner will make quick work of that and have it looking better than new!

NM 🤙🏼
I got the Izula2 because i wanted a full grip handle or at least the most grip I can but with a 2”-3” blade to piggyback my 6” knife.
I'm honestly surprised you haven't posted s video of the ezula 2 yet
Fixing to buy one. I told myself I wouldn't buy a fixed blade to carry for a while but I'm overdue for one.
Esee 3 is my small fixed blade. I carry that when I’m not at work.
I love mine, The only gripe is that many good companies don't put much effort into designing a decent sheath, it seems almost an afterthought, I wouldn't mind paying a little more for a good sheath.
I got the Architect one and it's just right .
Excited for this one. I carry the izula everyday at work in an armitus sheath in a cross draw position.
This is my EDC. Fits perfectly in the front pocket of jeans. In the Summer it stick out a bit with shorts... but oh well. Always another option I guess. I think it's the best in the Oxide version they make. I've tried it in the coated version as well, the oxide is best.
You can absolutely process up the biggest deer with the Izula. Terific hunting blade for the weight

I agree, the coating sucks for most EDC stuff. I plan on removing the coating and forcing a patina on mine

Man I love Esee knives. I have an Esee 6, and I love that thing. And you cant be that warranty.
I think the ESEE Xancudo is the best edc fixed blade. It has s35vn, a slightly better handle, and no potentially unhealthy blade coating. It has a very similar sheath to the Izula, which is a really really nice sheath for EDC, especially if you like to carry inside the waistband.
Hey man I know I'm just coming across your comment that's 2 years old. But would you still recommend this as a good EDC?
Yes, The Esee Xandudo is a great edc fixed blade, however, over the last 2 years I have discovered some other ones I like just as much. I just brought one and I’m waiting for mine, I’m going to see how it stacks against Minnesota use.
Just FYI I believe this orange one is a knife works exclusive and is sold out which is a big bummer. Love the idea of hi viz on this
Heck yeah my favorite too
I love my red 1095 Izula...Aside for one thing. The red paint rubs off on sharpening stones, so I have to use a stone just for it because it annoys me.

Love my izula with extended handles, also have the 3, and the 5 Love my esse!
I love mine, and love it more with the TKC micarta handle scales

The Ideal EDC is the New s35vn Stainless Izula!" 💪😎
It would be ideal if it was in a stainless powdered steel and if the handle scales were thinner
I have an ESEE 4 in s35vn that i love. It sits right between the two most popular ESEE knives, the esee3 and the esee5. Is s35vn a good choice for fixed blade steel in everyones opinion? Is it tough enough
Carried the Eskabar as a neck knife for a while. Miss carrying that thing.
Great show. Seriously thinking about getting this knife. I'm the guy who bought the bad sog seal I'm just hoping the handle I's sufficient
I bought it in S25VN and waiting for it to come in the mail. Gonna slap on some G10 scales.
love these small neccable knaf videos! ESEE Candiru next please ;)
take your time though
Oh! oh! almost forgot, the Xancudo (fixed) vs Zancudo Folder would ROCK
Can you use this specific model for fruits and veggies

Is it still on warranty if you bought on amazon?
Yes.
I looked for one,is there an alternative???
Love the channel.❤
Love the knife but the belt clip is to big for scout carry without hooking inside pants.
How rare is this orange color ESEE izula 2?
Great knife! I think it just came out in s35. Lots of value.
1095 isnt tough. Its just thick blade stock. See Dr. Larrins charts.
I’ve been EDC’ing one of these (custom scales) for about 7 years? Couldn’t live w/o it. I have a limited edition one too. I don’t use that one.

I put a tek-lok on mine and piggyback it behind my esee pouch on my esee-6
Personally not a fan of tech lock, way too bulky for conceal carry. I prefer an ulticlip
I want that orange one but I can't find it
It’s a Knifeworks exclusive. They have them in stock.
In spain the izula 2 costs 179€ same in dollars
Nice n tough knife for a good size, I like it
I keep one in my truck, works great without the clip. 🇺🇲
Don't like the Red coating.
Prefer bare steel.
I'd get a nice Purtina going on the
Carbon blade.
Paint stripper works on the coating i believe; that or another stripper.
The hole is there for a caribiner (spell check) lol
@Metal Complex should you ever have to sell this gem, I'd like to be the first in line. please :)
I just bought one lol
@@Just__nandoo congrats friend :) I too was able to get one during the holiday season
i hate when i pull out my esee knife and darth vader chops it in half with a lightsaber... good thing im covered whenever that happens B)
it is a beautiful knife, but it is very expensive for what it provides, nothing justifies the value, you can buy better things for a much lower price
That’s the same Sears Craftsman tool
Used to have No ? Ask
Bring in the old tool leave with a new one .
Easy smeezy
*Poor, painted with paint knife made of poor steel for an exorbitant price. Handle scales get dirty "from looking" at them.*
First
The warranty is not worth the
Paper its written on.
i am buying one of these today or tomorrow so this was convenient
