- A Russian American woman charged with treason in Russia has been found guilty and sentenced to prison. Ksenia Karelina became a US citizen in 2021. She was born in Russia, but lived in the United States for about a decade. The Russian courts sentenced Karelina to 12 years in a penal colony, and have imposed a fine of 300,000 Russian rupees, about $3356 US dollars, followed by a year and a half of probation. Lawyers for Ksenia Karelina say she plans to appeal the court's decision.
She shouldn't have returned to Russia.

Part of me feels bad for her, but it still is really her own fault. She should have known about what was going on and held off on going on that trip. Not all places will treat you well just because you were born there. She took her own poison... But I do pray that she can get through this. Perhaps by some miracle get to leave early, or simply be strong enough to live through those 12 years.
