I remember laughing at him as a kid. Until I saw what an incredible impact he had on people. It made me take him seriously and also it made me think differently about heavy people and how we treat others. He was a lovely man and did so much for people he didn't even know.
Damn. As an old punk growing up watching Richard on TV. Everyone picked on him. But he always gave me a laughs and found him to be a genuine person. Which is rare in this world. Very intelligent guy that knew how to troll and actually want to help people. Unlike the rest of these grifters. Now all the people that hate on him. Will post RIP and pretend they cared for him. Just like they always do. Richard was always one of the funniest guys on the stern show. When he made appearances he stole the show. Dude had lots of empathy and did lots of good without bragging about it. Besides the weight loss stuff.
He was a good dude, uplifting and he had a lot of spirit. I love his work for children and helping adults lose weight in the fun way...dancing. He had a level of bravery I admire.
I won’t deny it at all. Growing up, I definitely used to make fun of and talk trash about Richard Simmons. But I was a stupid kid then. Now I’m an adult - and see all the good he did for people. And with that said, I apologize to him for all the smack talking of my youth. RIP Richard Simmons… you were a good man!

This guy was an amazing person. I remember working out with him during the 80’s, with my toddler daughter by my side. I will always remember him and thank him for being a bright light in a cold world.
Richard Simmons was a humble icon. I many conversations with him. He really did talk to everyone and was one of the most down to earth and realist human beings that gained fame. We really lost someone special today, and people don't even realize it.
Mom and I got to meet Richard at a Price Club location in Arizona in the '80s while he was on a promotional tour. The kindest, sweetest man you could ever hope to meet. RIP, Richard.
When I heard that Richard Simmons had died, I was shocked, because he was such a good person and in my opinion, one of the most dynamic and eccentric person who ever lived, especially in the field of fitness. In his public appearances, he was so energetic while he tried to make people laugh (which motivated his audience) and, above all, that requires a lot of talent. I've rarely known anyone so devoted to his work, with such vitality and extravagance, in over 40 years in this business. What's more, he was genuinely interested in solving other people's problems. Among all people who have passed away, if I had to put 1 person on my TOP list, it would definitely be Richard Simmons. RIP!
I miss you already! You were such a fun and loving help to me and my sister in the 80’s! Truly love and respect all you are and have done to help so many get back to healthy living and in wonderful fun doing it. You are missed Richard!
Oh Richard you were such a special person….. I knew decades ago when I first saw and heard you that you were “golden” and we were blessed to have you. May you rest while we celebrate your amazing life that helped countless. 🥀
I don't know why but when I heard that Richard Simmons had died I became profoundly sad and actually started to cry and even now as I write these words I can feel tears in my eyes. I have never meet Richard Simmons and never really seen much stuff with him but I have know about him ever since the 1980's and I have seen him in movies, shows and a couple of talk shows over the years. I live in Denmark and his shows and videos has never been available here on tv but still he is/was know by a lot of people. I am a 51 year old guy and still I found myself so sad because of Richards death and it has really affected me. I think it is because Richard Simmons felt like such a kind and truly, really truly good person in a world filled with bad things and bad people and even though he was loud and flamboyant,he never seemed fake or annoying and I really believe he truly cared for other people and he had such a kind and happy nature and he was the kind of person one would have loved to talk to and sit down and have a cup of coffee with and I also have a feeling that he was properly a very very good friend to have. Just imagine an old guy like me who listen to Heavy metal and Black metal and live a life full of Horror films and Literature and plays video games and old fashioned paper based RPG's like AD&D and such and collects action figures, finds myself in tears over the death of a person I have never meet. I guess that shows what kind of a person Richard Simmons was and how he affected the people around him. Richard Simmons I hope you may rest in peace and that you have gotten the reward of heaven that you deserve for having been such a remarkable and kind and likable person. I will never forget you.
What a wonderful soul Richard was... if there were only more people like him, this world would be a better place! God bless you Richard & may you rest in peace ❤
Genuine loving man who wanted nothing more in life than to make people feel good about themselves! Thank you for a lifetime of giving to others and helping people to feel good about themselves! Will miss you terriby! Eat well friend!
I remember him on General Hospital, late 70s-early 80s, he was a semi-regular guest star. He would do his exercise routines with members of the cast and extras at the disco 🪩 🕺🏽that Luke Spencer (Anthony Geary) either managed or owned. 😂 I was watching with my babysitter while Mom was working.
He was a great man. So many women lost their weight and were saved from heart attacks and diseases. And as if that was not enough, he entertained us like a professional comedian. What a talent! Amazing genius.
😨 damn that’s terrible hope he’s peaceful with his parents. Richard was a character in a good way and didn’t discriminate who he helped. Thats a shock cause he ate healthy and exercised constantly. RIP Richard
I remember exercising to Richard Simmons VHS tapes in PE class in the 90s. He always seemed strange to me when I was a kid, but I have to respect the guy for caring so much about people’s health and for so long. He definitely left a legacy.

Richard has touched the lives of many. He lived a lifetime devoted to helping people, changing their lives for the better. The OG of aerobics and partly why I became an instructor in the 80’s. He was eccentric, funny, and most of all passionate about sharing his love for health. There will never be another like him. Rest in peace. ❤
Him and Ruth both gone! They were part of my childhood. I remember my gramma watching Richard Simmons everyday. When I became a teenager I remember being enthralled by Dr Ruth's take on sex. No sure if it was the accent but I loved her advice. Will be missed
I had the privilege of meeting Richard many times, he genuinely cared about people's health and NOT for money. A true class act. RIP
And his Slimmons class was only $12!!!
I had the privilege of being blocked by him for posting the footage of an event he blatantly lied about to smear Roseanne Barr. Good riddance.
I remember laughing at him as a kid. Until I saw what an incredible impact he had on people. It made me take him seriously and also it made me think differently about heavy people and how we treat others. He was a lovely man and did so much for people he didn't even know.
