I don't actually mind the brakes, however I started off riding cruisers for a few years so had I rode more sports bikes I may have felt the same, I have delkevics on mine and love them bought delkevics for my last 2 bikes and they're great, look awesome and sound amazing especially if you take the Baffles out 😜
Nice video. I have a 2012 se. I went with the brocks slip ons vs a full system. Love the sound over stock! Will be adding lithium battery. Got the bulbs on the way!!!
I totally agree. Apparently the pipes don't fit with a centre stand however, I'd rather my centre stand. Look at PipeWerx cans. They do fit with centre stands and what I will be looking to get in the new year. The originals look ridiculous, far too big. Braided lines would be a difference, unless u look for some aftermarket used Brembos. (Pricey though). And digital screen would be great, this was purely a cost cutting measure. I have a 2013, just got it with 18k on it. Where did I get your bar risers? What size are they and did u have any screen issues with it catching? Planning to do Ireland on a biking tour in May 23.
I'll check out Pipewerx cans, not heard of them before 👍🏻 Brembos would be too pricey for me, ill change the lines at some point and probably the pads for some SBS ones and hopefully that will make a difference. I didnt put the risers on (although i would have done if they werent already on there) I reckon they are the ones from Moto CNC, id say they are between 20-30mm, no issues with anything hitting the screen at full lock. Id love to do a tour of some sort one day, Ireland is a good shout! Enjoy your new ZZR they are amazing bikes!
I can confirm the Brembo's on the Performance Sport are top notch, initial bite isn't harsh but braking is pretty progressive with little input. The Akrapovic's although only slightly smaller than the OEM exhausts, do look better and sound great but they'd be a pricey upgrade. Delkavic's are usually decent, Black Widows also, Fuell as well if they make some to fit? I agree about the LCD but then the modern ones could have issues down the line and are expensive to replace. I find the headlights although yellowish work great with good distance and spread, I find LED's to be too forward focused. It'll be interesting to see how well they work on yours. SW Motek did some Blaze saddle bags with a removable mounting bar so no scaffolding but they seem to be discontinued and were pricey. I was fortunate enough to be able to buy the last one sold in Europe, alas that means I ration it's milage. Weather permitting I'll try to do the 1,000 mile review on Sunday.
I thought the Brembo's would be far better than the Nissin ones on my standard model, i will try changing the brakes and the pads to some SBS ones and see if that helps, i certainly wont be changing the whole system to Brembo's that will be far too expensive. Same goes for the exhaust, the akra's are great if you get them on the PS model but to buy them as an upgrade they are silly money. I haven't come across a Fuell one, the main ones i tend to see are Delkavic, Black Widow and ive also seen Pipe Werx ones recently after i searched for them based on somebody's recommendation.
I put Pipewerx end cans to start with. No problems with the centre stand and they are priced well and sound good. when I had a bit more money i switched to a Yoshi 4-1 full system with a remap. If you though it was quick as stand this is on a new level and sounds the nuts. Centre stand still functional.
Mines 2014; I bought in 2016 New Old Stock. Somethings up there. My brakes are phenomenal; though, I'm not ABS. I'm not a fan of ABS in a sport sense. Cans came right off for Two Bros,CF as that was the deal I found on EBay. Losing those factory cans/Cats gave much lighter feel and better balance.
Own a Gen1, just bought a 2024 ZX-14R. Brakes, they're good. Have the Brembos on the new 14R and the whole setup is no better than the Gen1. Have kevlar lines on my Gen1 and steel braided Galfers on m y 08 Hayabusa---it makes no palpable difference. The master cylinder is what makes the real difference. Personally though, I think the brakes are good on the 14, whatever year you buy. I mean, it will lock the front tire at 60-70 mph without a whole lot of travel in the lever. How much better do you want? I'll agree, could be better for sport riding but not bad as is. I hear the liter bikes have been getting some incredible brakes over the last ten years. I guess Kaw decided to keep the 14R's brakes more street/touring friendly but if you ask me, the brakes are very adequate for track riding. 2) Of course the stock exhaust sucks! Every stock exhaust on every bike is horrible. I feel for the folks who own bikes where aftermarket exhausts are prohibited. I can’t hear my stock exhaust over 70 mph and it weighs a ton. Go with any aftermarket exhaust and you’ll enjoy the bike so much more. I hope you Brits can get a Brock’s over there. Spend the $2000 US and get the full race system. Utmost love to the newbies, if you don’t know, a full system exhaust is by far the best investment in enjoying your new bike. Slip ons are ok but you might as well replace the whole exhaust for the marginal difference in price and enjoy the additional weight loss. Realistically, you’re not going to notice the extra 9 hp you get with a race header but if it’s another 5-700 dollars, why not have it? 3) Cargo space under the seat. Yeah, you’d expect more but it’s probably because of the size the bike that they had little room to spare for storage space. If you’re into storage space, the passenger seat could be modded to open up a good amount of space under the seat cowl. I’d use that for a nitrous setup but do what you want with it. The Hayabusa is the same, very little space under the saddle. 4) Multifunction meter- yeah, would have been nice to add some color but i would rather they make it more visible in all light situations regardless of what color it was. Works fine, could have been better. Agree the analog clocks are best. Gotta say, the white faces on the Gen1 are easier to read at a glance. They had that figured out 70 years ago with jet fighter gauges. Black with reversed type looks a little more sheik even if less functional.
I agree with all the things you have said. I have a 14 and braided lines and Sintered brakes are the way to go, already changed to carbon Yoshimura slip-ons with the pipes too. I have a small bag on the back of the seat for carry space and I have looked into if I can change the screen myself but I haven't had any luck with that so far.
I am definitely going to change the pads this year to see if that helps, i would love to change the lines for braided ones but with it being ABS there are so many lines its expensive and would be a pain to do i reckon. There are plenty of screens out there to choose from and its only a 5 minute job to change it 👍
@@cjrides.1 I agree, mine is a 2013 SE ABS. There are 7 lines that need changing I think :) Being an older bloke I also have a gel seat and bar risers :)

@@cjrides.1 just to help with your research I chose the 260mm length mufflers over the longer ones(350mm) and they look much nicer in real life than on the website and the sound is amazing. I have a 2017 Performance Sport from new and will not be changing it ever. The Brembo's are great and the Akra exhaust is pretty good looking. But for a bike that kept clean and 100% garaged corrosion is a problem especially on centre stand, alloy fasteners and a lot of anything painted satin black like the swing arm.Not as good as it could/should be but a great bike nevertheless. Just need to keep on top of it or get the problem bits powder coated or ceracoted.
