i thought I'd check these screws again after around 12 months and they haven't come loose, but as a preventative measure, i actually used a centre punch and just did a mechanical lock on the screws and the retainer plate. Excellent vid. I keep referring to this vid for transmission tips on my ZX14R.
Awesome vid mate, I've done a lot of preventative maintenance on my ZX14R, but I didn't check the three bearing retainer screws/bolts when I put in a new clutch and the APE oil pump cover mod . I will be loctiting them ASAP.
I actually checked these 3 screws yesterday when I checked my clutch. I removed the whole basket, and surprise surprise, they weren't 100 tight. So I cleaned, loctited and retorqued all 3 screws.
Hi there! Good job on the kawi but, I must tell you that the loose bearing retainers are not an isolated incident. I have also have a wrecked gearbox because of loose retainers.
hey.... i have ninja 300 few days im noticing when i decelerate bike im get clucking noise from front end and near bottom area of engine … but bike has 7k kilometres done and chain setting is within the spec and company is unable to identify… and theres no noise of chain whatsoever… im confused what it could be any idea?
@@groovymcfunkster I just checked the service manual (5th edition, printed 2014). The manual does indeed specify the three bolts located on each retaining plate (both on the input shaft and output shafts) are to be loctited. Perhaps the factory missed this engine , or the fix for the problem was put into production. subsequent
@@groovymcfunkster What colour was the case sealant you found? Kaw uses a light grey rubberized sealant, likely made by 3 Bond. (1194) etc. I have a 2016 zx14r. The loctire used throughout is usually red/orange in colour. J
@@jscottc6675 It was black sealant, there wasn't any evidence of any loctite on the threads. I wouldn't be surprised if someone was previously in the engine.

Staking the bolts is also an excellent idea. Glad the video can be of help.
Great work man, i dreaded working on kaws
It's not so bad, it's a lot of work but rewarding in the end.

It looked like someone was in this engine before, but never a bad idea to check. Good luck.
Where are you loacted and would you do another zx14r
For the right price possibly, I'm in North Florida.
@groovymcfunkster how much do you think
@@groovymcfunkster I'm in NC. How much will you charge me to swap the transmission out? 13 zx14r. I'll bring the motor

Good work, I'd consider that some preventative maintenance.
wow..great catch. I would dred that job..hope my 09 hold up ok
It's really not too bad, I enjoy challenging myself with things I've never done before.

Nice baro
No lift, deadlifting engine alone, enjoy your back while it still works well.
It certainly wasn't the smartest idea I've had.
Yeah, definitely best to baby yourself/body so you can arrive on your deathbed with a body in perfect condition that has never been used, great logic.

It's very difficult to diagnose something if I am not working on it in person. There is a lot of factors, perhaps it's a bearing clearance issue.
What year is this 14r and how many miles were on it?
J
It's a 2014, as far as the mileage goes I can't remember exactly but believe it was in the neighborhood of 24k miles.

@@jscottc6675 I did check for previous use of loctite but found no evidence of it. It's very possible that someone was already in this engine before.
