This is How I Made My Honda Grom FASTER | Intake & ECU Flash

  • After 3 Years of owning my Honda Grom (MSX 125) it was time to finally squeeze a little more power out of the 125cc engine! To my surprise, it was noticeable fast(er) and louder after installing the intake and reflashed ECU!
    I understand that using words like “power” and “faster” can raise a few eyebrows when referring to a Honda Grom. This is not a fast bike. However, there are a few things you can do to extract more power out of this mini bike engine. After having (only) and exhaust, I wanted to do it right by adding a Dinger Built Intake and a CJR ECU flash! The intake sound and throttle response is the best this bike has seen!
    The Dinger Built Short Ram intake for the Honda Grom and z125 is Dyno proven to add a slight bump in horsepower and torque. Combined with a Cameron Jones Racing ECU reflash, the new ECU timing can make the intake & exhaust safer and and more powerful. The Grom now has a higher redline, a 91 Octane tune, and NO check engine lights! Truly a OEM style plug and play setup for the Grom. I give you guys a couple 0-60 pulls and some Grom top speed runs!
    I also show you guys my new functional side vents for the Grom that show off the K&N intake and hopefully provide cooler air to the bike. Unfortunately the Dobek Performance EJK didn't work out for me and things like the Power Commander V and Aracer were a little out of my budget. If I didn't go with the CJR ECU flash, I would have most definitely went with the Finbro ECU and Injector setup.

    To get more speed on small bikes in my mind adding "better" exhaust and intake gives a little more top end power but no extra rpm so it will be a tad more powerful when your wrist is snapping itself wide open. The real benefit would come from increasing low down torque and changing sprockets so you can get there quicker and still have the same or better top speed. How often are you wide open vs accelerating🤔

    • @brotangyoust9252
      @brotangyoust9252 5 лет назад +1

      @Michael Davis that's what makes these kind of bikes the most fun is the acceleration. I mean they aren't really built for really high speed anyway. Popping wheelies and that's where the funs at I think.

    Yup fantastic wee film Anthony. The thing is with the wee Honda Grom parts are cheap and don't cost a fortune. The up grade to your bike is very straightforward and I dare say most people can do themselves. It's an easy bike to work on with out must hassles. The brill thing was you noticed a big difference in performance as well. Which is even better news after your simple modes. Love the wee Honda grom and thinking about buying one myself. That's why I love watching these small films on how to boost things up abit.

    14t sprocket. So presuming the speedo to be accurate you got 62.5 at an indicated 67 and 67.2 at an indicated 72.
    Because of the way a grom engine dumps torque at higher rpm you probably only just about got it's stock top speed back. You will have a little better acceleration in gear but overall lowering gearing on a 4spd bike which can't rev isn't the best idea.

      @honda116969 5 лет назад

      For power big bore's are good but you lose the Honda reliability...

    • @davespooney8472
      @davespooney8472 5 лет назад

      A good quality kit that’s a sensible bore is reliable. As long as the kits piston is a similar weight to standard there will be little extra stress, good fuelling is key.
      More torque low down means there’s no need to rev it so high.

    They look pretty cool. I am currently on a Triumph Speed Triple. This would be an absolute shock to my system!! My wife on the other hand has never ridden. Tossing the idea of selling/trading my Speedy for 2 Groms. 9 hp makes my guts tighten. We just bought a camper a couple months ago. The idea is the ability to toss both in the back of our truck and tool around where we go camping or buzz around town. We also have tons of UTV trails around us. We are in the Midwest. Do you think I would have tremendous buyer’s remorse? Again, it’s to get my wife riding and another thing for us to do together. I ride solo now and don’t really like it. I like riding with someone. Great video!! Thoughts??

    • @pupkorn7111

      The mpg would decrease slightly, when you install a full exhaust and an intake, the air to fuel ratio is lean. There is more airflow than the stock ecu outputs. So you would see maybe a 3-6 mpg decrease with the power? This my personal guess with the experience I have.

    Just watch this dude,
    I also own a Honda.
    Mine can run to 10k rpm.
    Honda engines are reliable, you can max out every gear until it limit then change gear.
    This little engine likes more torture. 😁

  • @danandyong6653

    I know you're just doing a comparison before install, but remember, your speedo is no longer correct after changing sprocket diameters. The speedo calculation is within the transmission

    • @ALLDAYANTHONY

      Dan and Yong correct, yet the MPH on the bike is still the control that we are monitoring

    Ok now I’m in decisive… which air intake should I get? The singer built? Or the chimera??? Both uses K&N filters which I’m a big fan of K&N. Current have a K&N cold air intake system in my Honda civic and it’s flawless.

  • @Pleaver

  • @ProDigit80

    I doubt the air intake does a lot on top speed. The stock airbox is good enough for 20% above stock airflow.
    I would swap out the sprockets to get higher top speed (on GPS).

  • @chrisloftin9014

    You can go buy sink pipe. Cheaper and put your hole it in.. and k&n filter $30.
    Elbow on the gas tank when you leaning down. Bike will go 75mph. Stock bike
    If you have little wind 65 to 68

  • @billbowers3370

    Yeah it does speed limit occassionally. You could probably buy a bike with a little bigger displacement. It till a mini bike. You can put lip stick on pig. It is still a pig or a grom.

    Wow, you guys run in 87-89 octane.. Here in the Netherlands we run 95 stock and 98 (and even 101 at some gas stations). That's quite a big difference... Doesn't that affect the performance pretty badly?
    Awesome video though! Wanna get my bike license real bad, but have to finish my R33 first, hehe.
