Hi I’m a new viewer and have to agree with most of the comments/compliments great job explaining things along with your honest advice. I have a zoom high mount full exhaust and ripped out all that restrictive tubing in the air box and installed a K&N filter, I converted my 2017 SF Grom into a dual sport so when going on trails especially high altitude hills it struggles on 2nd so I bought a PCV and plan to use the yoshi full exhaust stock air box with no lid map. My question and now my concern is will this Dyno PCV be a good addition and did I pick the right map choice (my specific map is not available)and how likely will it strand me too, deep in trails? Thank you so much in advance for ur time!
Hey antonio, at what altitude are you riding the grom in the trails? The premade maps online will make it run more rich at 3/4 to full throttle. They won't make a lot of adjustment for altitude, so you might just be more rich. If you're under 6,000 ft or so it should be fine.

Awesome video. I recently bought a used 2017 grom with full yoshi and chimera intake. I found a video on how to reset the ecu and TPS with paperclips.. Is that equal to sending my ECU in to get flashed?
Hey congrats on the new bike! Unfortunately no, resetting the ECU and TPS is not the same as having the ECU flashed to compensate for freeflowing exhaust and intake. I'd do the re-flash!
@@CTGromer thx man! Exactly what I needed to know.. as of now it runs ok based off the spark plugs health. But I'm going to send my ECU out to get flashed for my specific set up soon. Keep up the awesome content bro!
I am thinking about buying a 2020 Grom and it has 5,500 miles and he says that after he put a new exhaust on it, it had less power. Any idea what the problem is or if I should buy it? It’s 1500
I'd snag it for that price, what exhaust is on it? When you put an exhaust on, it takes 50 miles or so for the ECU to make an adjustment, during which time the grom is slower. If you reset the ECU (which you should) it takes around 20 miles for power to return as the ECU learns. That's probably what's going on.
So just out of curiosity, you said with just an exhaust, you SHOULD be okay, is there anything you need to be wary of? I'm looking at getting a grom in the next month or two, so just wondering... Thanks!
Hey thanks for commenting! If you don't modify the airbox and just add exhaust, the ECU can make that adjustment and it won't be too lean to the point that you're risking the engine overheating. If you were to do the intake AND exhaust, you would want to richen the air-fuel ratio by flashing the ECU or adding a fuel controller of some kind.
Okay dumb question, I plan on doing the intake and exhaust and reflash. Would it be dumb to add the aracer with the reflash? Eventually I'm going to do the high compression 125 piston...
If you're going to the reflash don't do the Aracer. If you get the flash from DHM and then get his hi-comp piston, he should cut you a deal do reflash it again.
I’m pretty new to this and I’m planning on getting a exhaust and a intake for the grom. I’m kinda confused on the ecu reflash. If I get the ecu reflash it will work for any exhaust and intake right?
Yes, it will. I'd recommend the Chimera intake, but any aftermarket exhaust will be more free-flowing than the stock one. The ECU will richen the mixture enough so its not dangerous. Depending on who flashes it, someone might have an EXACT tune for your specific intake and exhaust, some just make a broad tune that will be safe to run. Hope this helps.
Great information, I have a 2022 honda monkey that I have done everything to. pipe,intake,cam,149cc bbk,150injecter oil cooler and 2 dhm ecu reflashs! The motor is running hot. will the wideband cx single channel afr kit fix me up? can I use it by itself or do I need a power vision 3 also? I want something simple !! thanks Mike
CT, I’m a Grom owner. Very old Scooter rider in that I’m 76. I simply want to increase speed so I can comfortably run between 55-65 mph. My thought is to simply change gearing ie: 16T Front/32T rear sprockets. Since you are a Grom Guru what are your thoughts? Tnx...
Hi there, 76, thats awesome! Glad you're still riding! changing the gearing to 16-32 won't increase the top speed in the groms stock form as it simply will not have enough power to take advantage of the taller gearing. Leaving gearing stock and increasing the power is what get the grom to 55-65mph. The gearing is not the issue, its the power.
i just put an aftermarket exhaust on my grom & i reset my ecu... my air intake is stock. Do i have to do anything more? Is it better to keep my stock air intake with aftermarket exhaust or is that something I should change.

No, but the clean condition combined with other factors such as a slow climb up a hill, low oil, and lean condition will certainly overheat the engine and cause a significant amount of premature wear the tear. It's all about eliminating wear factors.
going with a cheap amazon exhaust and open air box mod….ecu will adjust itself. it’s nothing big so it probably won’t do anything. save the money and buy another mod😎
Your info on fuel injection and running lean is all wrong. Your idea that the ecu can only adjust a little bit is hilarious. Fuel trims can adjust up to and often beyond 25%. There is no way that either a filter or exhaust gains 25% or more at either end. Although it is sensible to have a proper remap done on a dyno once all hardware mods are done. One thing that has me baffled is all this concern around these bikes running lean?. Unless there is something about these injection systems that I don’t know then these bikes should never run too lean or rich ever. The fact it has fuel injection, an ecu and has a lambda sensor takes this running lean or rich away. Regardless of whether the ecu has a manifold pressure sensor or not the lambda sensor will detect rich and lean conditions as that’s its job. If it detects a lean condition it will adjust the fuel trims to compensate accurately and over time memorise these settings. That’s how fuel injection works. Also, only if the fuel trims go over 25% +\- will the CEL come on. There is no way that either an intake or exhaust will create more than a 25% gain of air ingested or increase in exhaust gas speed by 25% so the standard system should cope just fine with both mods. Everything runs towards the side of “leaner” from the factory simply to appease the tree hugging twats and government legislation. Lastly, these bikes are equipped with catalytic converters, the square like box part of the exhaust in the middle. For a catalyst to work and not be destroyed we all know they constantly cycle from rich to lean all day long or the cat would die soon enough due to all the unburnt fuel. Anyways, happy gromming to all 👍

@@CTGromer so I just installed a high mount zoom exhaust (like on ur video) onto my 2017 SF and of course opened the air box up by removing all that tubing and added the K&N filter and closed it up (no pod style) and I just installed the PCV and used map 16-049-005 (two bro exhaust with stock air filter) per Dyno tech recommendation only to find out it’s from a 2014 Grom not from a 2017 uggghhh u would think they would update these maps on their site, anyhow bike fired up and idles fine have not driven it yet so not sure how it will perform at the higher RPMs since I do see the preprogramed variations +7, -5, +6 etc etc for the fuel and ignition tables, however I’m hesitant to ride it because the map is for a 2014 model u think this is going to be an issue when I take it out on the highway and open her up to those higher RPMs?
thanks pal so don't need 2 do nothing 2 the ecu when just did exhaust?
You're welcome, I'm glad you're enjoying the content. Correct, no further action is needed in adjusting the AFR if all you're doing is exhaust.
Does most grom mods work with a honda Monkey?
No, I don't think so. The engines are very similar, but I don't think a lot of the mods are universal.
Reflash vs Reset? Whats your opinion?
So just out of curiosity, you said with just an exhaust, you SHOULD be okay, is there anything you need to be wary of? I'm looking at getting a grom in the next month or two, so just wondering... Thanks!
Hey thanks for commenting! If you don't modify the airbox and just add exhaust, the ECU can make that adjustment and it won't be too lean to the point that you're risking the engine overheating. If you were to do the intake AND exhaust, you would want to richen the air-fuel ratio by flashing the ECU or adding a fuel controller of some kind.
@@CTGromer That's good to hear! Appreciate you getting back. Even though I just found the channel, I really like the stuff you do here on RUclips!
More air also needs more fuel.Take injector out and replace with Honda Pcx150 injector
I had not thought of this, on my own bike, but I will look into it. Its a cheap part, might as well!
@@CTGromer I want the an ecu with quick shifter and the popping out the exhaust tuning
@@FatKidatSpeed Both Acerbis and Dynojet PCV can do that!
I want something simple !! thanks Mike
Im 66 years old and not very good with computers!
CT,
I’m a Grom owner.
So if im just doing the intake and exhaust then a re flash is my beat bet correct or should i do the dynojet v ?
I would just do the re-flash. Much cheaper.
You can also use an another ECU if you mod the air intake and the exhaust. For example the Yuminashi ECU... Its cheaper to.
Sry for my english :)
Ahh I'll check this out! Thanks for the info!
i just put an aftermarket exhaust on my grom & i reset my ecu... my air intake is stock. Do i have to do anything more? Is it better to keep my stock air intake with aftermarket exhaust or is that something I should change.
You're good as long as you don't modify airbox or add air intake system. Once that is done, you'll need to reflash that ECU
@@CTGromer thank you so much !
Are you from Connecticut and what is the first thing I should do to a Grom it’s my first bike ever I’ve never done nothing mechanically in my life I’m 13 it is to ride in my property what do you recommend
Hey bud, I'm from California, the CT in my name refers to the CT90 or Trail 90, which was my first bike. First thing to do to the grom? Ride it! After that, new handlebars and grips, remove the rear fender, and get an exhaust. That's all it really needs :) Let me know if you get one!
CT Gromer ok thank you I’ll let you know if I get one
Hey serious question what kind of grom seat should I get? To be honest I don’t have a grom yet but I want to get all the parts I want first and put them on when I do? And where should I get the parts from?
Hey Christian, that's one strategy I guess! I buy most of my grom parts from TST Industries, Steady Garage, and Amazon. Good luck finding a grom!

Will it be okay if I run it 2 weeks without the ecu flash?
Yes, as long as it never gets super hot, from things like prolonged wide open throttle or stunting, should be fine.
I have takegewa 143cc bbk, exhaust and intake can i just do the reflash?
Yeah, go to dhm they do it cheap
I'd ask DHM if he can make a custom flash for your exact scenario. When doing BBK i'm partial to doing the PCV with Wideband o2 auto tune.
I have an eu grom (2022) with the different ecu and no sites that offers ecu remap or replacement. Anyone here with a eu grom with a power commander or power vision?
I would like to ask my Grom 2018with intake cam and yoshimura what is the best for my Grom power commander or dhm ecu reflash ?

What did you do to the airbox? I've seen people remove the internal snorkels and add a "velocity stack" inside. Is this along the lines with what you did?
CT Gromer thanks for the response. I took out the middle snorkel inside the box the one held by the steel piece and also remove the steel piece in the back of the paper filter for more airflow.
I just bought a grom with a big bore. i put the bigger injector in and have a power commander v but no oil cooler and no downstream o2. how boned am i to run it like that for a little while? I have the ability to add an oil cooler, i just dont have one installed yet. when cold(er) and under load i have noticed some black smoke out the rear which makes me think it might even be running rich

its got a TB bbk. I havent gotten into the power commander yet. I should really read a how to on it and get a new map for it. it does have a bassani exhaust and some intake with a cone filter.
the bike still had the recall from 2015 on the fuel pump so I havent had a change to dig too far into it yet.
@@Ericbuyslunch Ahh so its an OG grom! make sure you get the fuel pump recall done, I've had to do that on two of the groms I've owned. Honestly, you're probably good for now, but when you get a chance, get it mapped by someone who does it, or buy the autotune module.
@@CTGromer yeah. its at the shop right now getting it done as california wont let you register it without it. hence why i havent ridden it hahaha. the previous owner was seriously an idiot. the front brake cable is ran backwards and out of its holding points.

Don’t think anyone have ever blown up a grom from doing an intake and exhaust.
My grom sounds more akin to the pneumatic engine out of an air compressor than a motorcycle stock

What up bro.

Yes we ride all the time here in Fresno, add me on Instagram and hit me up @dsimon11
Anyways, happy gromming to all 👍
The power command is a complete waste of money. All you have to do is reset the ecu. It will relearn and do exactly what the power command will do.
Leave them STOCK. You will have no problems. All riders want is NOISE. Get over it. If these little grunts aren't fast enough buy a bigger grunt.
