John Lineman forgot or intentionally did not mention that as a result of PSSR, the Fidelity Pro mode looks blurry in comparison to the pin sharp image of base PS5 Fidelity mode using Insomniac's in house Temporal Injection... Insomniac should have left the PS5 Pro players the option to choose between all modes (including those from base PS5) just as Naughty Dog and Santa Monica has done with TLOU and GOW respectively. Santa Monica even lets you choose between PSSR and Temporal AA as a perfect example of PRO options to choose from.
@@CrimsonGear80 The issue is not shown on this video. Look it up in comparison videos for this same game on Elanalistadebits and Open Surprise channels. Word of caution though, once you see it you will not unsee it. Not that PSSR is bad, but it creates a softer final image in comparison to Insomniac's already amazing temporal injection technique. This also happens in Hogwarts Legacy. Look it up. I am just saying developers should give us Pro owners the options to select from all available modes and not lock us up with the Pro modes. This issue being the perfect example. I prefer the original Fidelity with Temporal Injection over the new Pro mode with PSSR. I'd like to point out that on ratchet and clank when you turn raytraced reflections on high many of the puddles lose their raytraced reflections on the nefarious planet. But when retracing is turned to medium the missing raytracing on those puddles return. Pretty weird right?
Some reflections were missing on Blizar Prime at launch as well. They have fixed them now. I haven't checked the area you mentioned yet though but worth a quick look
Like where? You can see RT reflections in the puddles in Nefarious City in this video at 11:15 Ratchet is reflected in the puddle he is standing in, all the other puddles show RT reflections as well in this shot.
Picked up on that too, the performance mode has something akin to faux bounce light from the window which the RTAO removes and the RTGI doesn't add back in.
The biggest improvement is framerate with fidelity on. Everything else is hyperbole from people to justify their purchase. I also purchased the Pro with no regrets (Hogwarts is the most impressive imo) Fancy words don't change what eyes see without a magnifying glass.
Honestly I think people just need that comparison feature in every game as you switch through the mods because that alone would sell a lot of people on the console. I know myself because I thought the differences would be minor, but seeing them swap between the 2 quickly it’s so very clear how much it looks better
Thats great and all but these changes are going to be barely noticable when actually trying to play the game 🤔. Im glad to see there are improvements but in overall picture, I dont think its a worth of an upgrade 😢 specially if PS5 Pro's main selling feature is just enhancements in game 😅 This is not like PS4 and PS4 Pro when its main sellink feature was 4K compared to 1080p of the bat and just added game enhancements as a second feature.
Most of these features should be here automatically. “Do you want refined shadows or half blurred shadows?” Obviously I want refined shadows. Especially if it offers no trade off
I'm kind of astonished how damn good the PS5 Pro games look, I've spent some time in Spider-Man 2 but most in Horizon: FW and Baldurs Gate 3. It's a little like when the PS4 Pro launched, everything is significantly sharper and more detailed and runs a little better. I have an 85" TV and the difference is night and day. Honestly if you're getting a PS5 for the first time, get the Pro because it also gets you a 2 TB SSD. Upgrade if you have a bigger TV and can trade-in your old PS5. FWIW I don't have the stand and it clearly doesn't need one, its just cosmetic.
Man, 40 fps on a 120hz display with low frame rate compensation is actually fucking huge. I am not asking for it to become the standard in console games, but if there is enough overhead left to push the quality mode to 40 fps at the same settings, I don't see why devs are not implementing it. I played A Plague Tale Requiem on Xbox Series X with that better vrr mode and I literally had to check if I was in the 60 fps mode during gameplay, A LOT.
Eventually 120 Hz display will totally replace 60 Hz ones, so yeah, at that point 40 fps will just become the new standard I guess, with fallback to 30 and 60 fps for the old owners of 60Hz displays without VRR.
I still think Performance Pro is the way to go on a 120HZ VRR screen. I’m not saying Fidelity Pro isn’t smooth, rather, I think those extra frames do make a big difference.
This is the thing, with Pro existing devs will have 4+ years of experience with PSSR, and when PS6 drops it will be glorious. It's so much better than just releasing PSSR in 2028+...

I love the fact that Insomniac Games offers a ton of graphical options for you to tweak. It kinda feels like tweaking your experience to your liking on a PC game. I know there are some who like this feature, and some who don't, but imo it's overlooked and can be a really good thing, given what game it is.
This is so incredibly unimpressive. Hope to see better things from games currently in development.

Because it doesn’t look blurry…
The PS5 Pro's intended market is consumers who notice these kinds of details...
@@ChayaneRuizTorres you are looking at compressed RUclips videos. I’m actually playing these games and PSSR does not make them look “blurry”. You are literally the only person I’ve seen say this.
Man, if the "Fidelity Pro" is less impressive than the base PS5 "Fidelity", what is the reason to buy this console? I mean, if you changed to Performance on the base PS5 playing at a certain distance in a small room, it was basically unnoticeable all the differences in graphics, even resolution. Imagine putting a blurrier mode on your new 700$ Pro console as your highest offering lmao.
A million times this. This is exactly what I'm talking about in my other comments.
Great video. Would have been super to see the actual performance impact of the rt options but if it’s not possible this is good enough.
I'd like to point out that on ratchet and clank when you turn raytraced reflections on high many of the puddles lose their raytraced reflections on the nefarious planet.
But when retracing is turned to medium the missing raytracing on those puddles return.
Pretty weird right?
Good spot.

7:26 wouldn't you think the light reflected onto his wrist in performance mode would actually be more realistic?
Picked up on that too, the performance mode has something akin to faux bounce light from the window which the RTAO removes and the RTGI doesn't add back in.
The biggest improvement is framerate with fidelity on. Everything else is hyperbole from people to justify their purchase. I also purchased the Pro with no regrets (Hogwarts is the most impressive imo)
Fancy words don't change what eyes see without a magnifying glass.
Honestly had I not owned the base ps5 or played most of the games I would've purchased the pro.
These raytraced shadows really make THE difference in gamplay… :D
Can you guys do a breakdown of Stellar Blade running on the pro next ?
Honestly I think people just need that comparison feature in every game as you switch through the mods because that alone would sell a lot of people on the console. I know myself because I thought the differences would be minor, but seeing them swap between the 2 quickly it’s so very clear how much it looks better
Thats great and all but these changes are going to be barely noticable when actually trying to play the game 🤔.
Im glad to see there are improvements but in overall picture, I dont think its a worth of an upgrade 😢 specially if PS5 Pro's main selling feature is just enhancements in game 😅
This is not like PS4 and PS4 Pro when its main sellink feature was 4K compared to 1080p of the bat and just added game enhancements as a second feature.
Yea stand is not needed at all. Stand very solid without it
No disc drive is ridiculous though, either pay extra for it or pay more for games on the PS Store. No thanks
Great stuff df
Gracias por el video, sois los mejores.
I still think Performance Pro is the way to go on a 120HZ VRR screen. I’m not saying Fidelity Pro isn’t smooth, rather, I think those extra frames do make a big difference.
Although I'm skipping the Pro, I'm looking forward to seeing these improvements on the PS6 eventually.
This is the thing, with Pro existing devs will have 4+ years of experience with PSSR, and when PS6 drops it will be glorious. It's so much better than just releasing PSSR in 2028+...
Old quality mode on base ps5 now running on almost 70fps? Yes, count me in.

Holy shit. FIDELITY PRO MODE runs at 50fps uncapped with VRR? That's crazy. I thought it was a strict 30fps mode. I'm def gonna use that. I think I'd even choose a 40fps mode with the fidelity pro with all the RT features. It looks so good.

Only HDMI 1.4b is needed for 1080p 120 Hz, but I really recommend you a monitor/TV upgrade first..
@marrow94 My monitor specs say it has 1.4, not 1.4b.
After doing research it seems like 1080p/120hz is possible in 1.4 aswell, and 144hz also (I use it at 144hz on a windows PC)
I Hope it works in 120hz mode with a PS5
Wasn't the whole point of the PS5 Pro that we don't have to choose between quality and performance?
exactly, you don't, between PS5 performance and quality modes, not PS5 Pro performance (which replaced the base quality mode) and quality

PSSR's inability to resolve grates and striations at oblique angles is uniquely terrible. Also saw it in FF7R2.
Ray tracing has been such a resources hog while being such an underwhelming graphics feature for consoles. I would take unique game mechanics over this any day.
Ray tracing looks incredible in the Spider-Man games. Why are you even watching Digital Foundry videos? Move on troll.
To my understanding, it was never meant to really be used on PS5 and the product chief was surprised on how many devs actually managed to even implement it. Hardware Unboxed has a nice video on what games actually benefit off of RT and what games it is basically worthless, if interested.
Game mechanics is pretty orthogonal to ray tracing. Implementing one doesn’t take away from the other, unless you mean the developer’s time
