Thanks for watching Elizabeth. With such fantastic light, the Marina looked great. It doesn't look as nice on a grey, wet afternoon 😀 . The birds were great subjects, I had hoped for more varied species.
Great footage of cormorants Andrew & some decent portraits. The shots of the long-tailed tit were awesome too! Thanks for sharing. Have a great Christmas:)
Thanks for watching Peter. The long tailed tits were a surprise find, I wasn't expecting to see them. They're great little birds. Have a great Christmas 🎄 too.
Great video Andrew! A really good assortment of birds in that place. Kove that inage at 2:50 and the bird at 3:26 (we had those birds in Florida too, can't think of what they are called though). Looks like a great camera, especially in your hands. Id be proud of any of those bird shots! Always a hreat watch Andrew! Hope you are doing well!
Thanks for watching Paul. Those birds are Cormorants (well, that's what they are known as here - and probably by a few other names from the local fishermen. ) As for the camera, being able to reach a distant subject is its greatest asset. We're all good here in the UK. I hope you're ready for winter in West Virginia, and are used to wearing those long pants/ trousers - you're going to need them this year. Looking forward to those Winter vlogs on your channel. We got our first snow last night, just a dusting but Winter is finally here.
I recently got a FZ82 but have yet to put it properly through its paces. I think the diving bird near the end from 07:13 was a young (first winter) Razorbill. Liked and subbed! 👍👍👍
Bird photography is expensive even by usual photography standards, so really good to have cameras on the market like the FZ80 and 82. Really liked that shot at 2:50 - technically not the most perfect, but it's got something about it - probably the movement that it captures. Goes to show it's not all about the technical stuff.
Thanks, Robert. With the shot at 2:50 it was quite difficult to track the bird as it flapped about at 1200mm equivalent focal length. Trying to eliminate shake at that distance hand held is pretty hard. I just managed to keep the head of the bird in focus. Sadly Panasonic has discontinued the fz80/82 model. The entry model is not the fz330 but it has only a 600mm equivalent lens.
You only need to spend mega bucks if you are submitting shots to National Geographic and the like, and even then you really don't need to spend the equivalent of a small family car on gear. Lovely shots Andrew and I especially like the compressed ripples on the ones of the birds paddling. Keith
Thanks Keith, I agree we all seem to get lulled into the trap of a more expensive camera with get you better images. OK, yes ultimately if you pixel peep it will, but you can still enjoy photography and capture some great shots with budget gear. One of the reasons why I think bridge cameras are great for beginners is that there is very little outlay after you have bought the camera. Buy a DSLR then you start spending on a telephoto lens, a nifty 50, a wide angle lens, it starts getting expensive even if you are buying used.
Some nice pics in there mate, as long as you have some good light and the birds are not moving fast then I think the FZ82 can take very respectable bird pictures, quite pleased with some of mine. ATB MMMD
Thanks for watching MMMD. Good light is definitely advantageous with the fz82. Birds on the wing I do agree are hard work with this camera, then 4k photo is sometimes the only answer.
A really lovely waterside area with lots of character. Some great bird shots in there, once again proving that if there is good lighting available then the humble FZ80 produces excellent shots even when at the full 1200mm. Quite outstanding image quality given the small sensor in it. By the way were you using a polarising filter? if so what brand pray tell.
Hi Dennis, no polarising filter, I should have used my ND for some of the video close ups, though, as the highlights were a bit blown out. Thanks for watching 🙂
Hi Andrew some nice shots there mate , like the cormorant images , very nice. Just goes to show you dont need to spend thousands on the top camera and long lenses to get good images. Hope your well, take care.
Thanks Alex, I'm sure the G9 is a pretty good camera. The FZ wins on zoom with a x60 1200mm full frame equivalent lens but I'm sure your M4/3 sensor produces much cleaner files. I know how much better the files are out of the FZ1000 with it's 1 inch sensor. I have produced an A3 print from files from the FZ82 but that was an image shot at ISO 80 on a tripod but that was pushing the cameras capabilities. I got lucky with great light in this video so that does really help this camera (an it's 1/2.3 in sensor) massively. Thanks for watching.
the child in me laughed when you said 'long tailed tits in the bush'....but away from my middle age immaturity, you got some great shots mate, especially liked the long tailed in the bush, I see you've mentioned in a comment that they're a little less than sharp (wrong ss) but from my end you really couldn't tell.
😀I had a little snigger during editing at that myself. The last shot of the trio could have done with a faster shutter speed as the bird just moved its head, and it's not quite as sharp as I have liked. That is the trouble with this camera, I wasn't wanting to raise the ISO and have to deal with too much noise. Getting a balance with the ss, the ISO and a camera that isn't blessed with a constant aperture lens. Thanks for watching Dave. 🙂
Thanks for watching Phil. The Long Tailed Tits were very much a surprise, I didn't really have time to set the camera up as I'd like, I think you can tell from the last shot the shutter speed is a bit low. The tiny sensor in this camera means you can't run really high ISOs without creating lots of noise in the images.
I live on the Dorset coast and this morning the hedgerows were full of longtailed tits. About four years ago I replaced my DSLR system (so heavy and I never seemed to have the right lens attached for a presented photo opportunity) and purchased a FZ80. Initially, I was very disappointed with results, but with perseverance, a lot of practice and being able to readily accept advice, I think it is an outstanding camera for the money.
Hello. Have you tried using an on-camera monitor with this camera? I was unable to connect with the camera. She just doesn’t see it. If you succeeded, I would appreciate your help.
I've not tried an on camera monitor with the fz82. It is very limited with video output, several people have asked if it can be used for video streaming but that isn't an option either, so I suspect the hdmi out socket is for playback only rather than a live feed.
Very capable camera - Nice images - I really like the reach of that zoom.
Thanks so much for watching Dave. The zoom is pretty much the selling point of the camera. It is ideal for this type of photography.
Hi, like 20...the first opening view was gorgeous...loved seeing all the birds...
Thanks for watching Elizabeth. With such fantastic light, the Marina looked great. It doesn't look as nice on a grey, wet afternoon 😀 . The birds were great subjects, I had hoped for more varied species.

Thanks for watching and subscribing, yes the bird at the end was indeed a razorbill.

@@AndrewWaltonPhotography Ah yes, of course, I remember your video on it. Still, I imagine there's quite a few on the second hand market.
@Robert-Bishop Yes, and still a demand for them.

Thanks, Lee. They aren't bad for what is an entry level into photography type of camera.
Really good video, cracking images off that fz82 mate, much better than my G9.

@hwood9783 Thanks for watching 🙂, I bought my Fz82 for video, then realised how good it was for travel and bird photography.

I agree with you. I also had the same opinion. Thank you.
