  • Monorail at Dutch Wonderland in Lancaster, PA.
Built for the 1966 season, it was advertised by Earl Clark, park owner at the time, as being “The only ‘true’ monorail east of Oklahoma City and the only monorail in the world with a glass bubble top.”. The 1-mile long monorail circles the entire park and notably passes in front of the park’s main entrance parallel to the Lincoln Highway with speeds ranging between 5-15 mph. It originally ran on a year-round basis with a special station built outside the park in the parking lot next to the Castle Gift Shop main entrance. First opened with three circular trains from Universal Design (UDL), two of the trains were destroyed in a fire in 1989 and one train was sold off. Dutch Wonderland bought two new more-angular trains from Intermountain Design & United Monorail Company. NAPHA recognizes Dutch Wonderland for continuing to operate the Monorail, a transit that is becoming more endangered.
