    The pee strips are actually measuring excess ketones. So it's a good measure for whether you ARE or are NOT in ketosis, but not good at all for knowing the level of ketones in your blood.

    • @chochooshoe
      @chochooshoe 10 месяцев назад +1

      I tried the strips and before dinner it was clearly in the small to moderate range but about 1.5 hours later I measured again it just gave me some light brownish color that's hard to tell which range it's in. so I'm not sure how to interpret that data 😅

    • @LorettaBangBang
      @LorettaBangBang 7 месяцев назад +5

      It tracks ketosis well only at the BEGINNING of your keto journey, is what everyone on podcasts says.
      I guess this means for a few weeks. Later the body is using all ketones and not secreting them, therefore then we need something more accurate like blood test.

    • @Milana_Kay
      @Milana_Kay 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@LorettaBangBang Fair point, but it's not just a few weeks. It can take years to become fully fat adapted. I've been eating keto for 1,5 years now and I still see ketones on my strips. I've kicked myself out of ketosis a few times to be fair but nevertheless it's helpful for everyday tracking.
      Once you really get the hang of it you won't need to track coz you'll just know how your body feels when you are in ketosis. But I actually think that the strips will never truly show negative ketones because your body will always produce a little extra just to be safe. It isn't a perfect machine after all.

      To generate ketones / be in ketosis (not diabetic ketoacidosis), you need to follow a keto or a low-carb diet. How many carb grams a day do you eat, on average, you think? You might be interested in the "Lumen Metabolism Tracker" instead, which measures carbon dioxide in the breath; this level varies with how many carbs you eat. (I have no financial interest in Lumen, and just found out about it today while Googling your question.)

    Is it truly needed ?? Sensor this, tracking that ..
    - I am also switching to carnivore/keto, but I am taking it *MUCH* more relaxed.
    Goal: 20 gr carbon-hydrates a day, max. What it really boils down to how honest you are to yourself, and how stringent you decide to be :ø)

    • @loricat5606

      She's doing *medical* keto combined with other metabolic therapies, which is VERY different from regular keto. She's also doing it under the direction/guidance of a medical team. As she references in the video, measuring the exact levels is crucial in maintaining effective *medical* keto.
      This is also a dedicated project - she's gathering this data and evaluating the sensors for more reasons than just tracking what level of ketosis she's in. As she says in other videos on this project, the focus is also on providing large amounts of accurate resources and other information about keto.
      Also, the Carnivore Diet and Ketogenic Diet are two different diets.
      So for a non-medical, "relaxed" ketogenic diet, no, you don't necessarily need to do this tracking, although it is still helpful in various ways. For medical keto, yes, the tracking, and the most accurate tracking possible, is absolutely necessary.
      If you haven't watched through her other videos on this project, I highly recommend doing so!
      I hope this answered your question well. Please feel free to ask any additional questions!

    • @mygirldarby
      @mygirldarby 11 месяцев назад +1

      I can't imagine anyone buying expensive trackers and tracking their "ketone levels" long term. I bet Lauren will not be regularly blowing into those monitors or peeing on those sticks in a year. Humans just don't want to live that way for life unless they absolutely have to, like in the case of type 1 diabetes. There is no reason for anyone who isn't doing any diet for medical reasons (like as an experiment for treating a mental illness), to use monitoring devices beyond their scale.
      Whole grains, vegetables and fruit never made anyone obese and denying yourself these healthy foods will not make you healthy. You may lose weight from such a strange diet in the short term, but losing weight at the expense of your long-term health is never wise.

    • @EgonSorensen
      @EgonSorensen 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@mygirldarby Thanks for your input.
      I can't see Lauren do all these things long term either, nor can I see myself doing it.
      I have friends who has changed to carnivore, and they were like Lauren in the beginning - Expensive apps, tracking equipment, daily measuring, etc.
      After some time, they stopped weighing food, entering into apps, etc. (Now, they're just eating 'normally' - just without so many carbs)
      Progress takes time, fortunately for me I'm able to feel how my body is doing - but I can relate if there's people out there with no body-feedback who is needing sensors and monitoring to 'see they're progressing'
      And oh, am I the only one who would rather buy better meat, than spending a lot of money on test equipment that lasts for 1 week?

    Is a ketone just blood sugar levels

    • @teddyb4957
      @teddyb4957 4 месяца назад +5

      No, Blood Sugar level as the name suggests is the level of 'sugar' in your blood, this coming from the breakdown [processing] of carbohydrates, proteins and lipids [fats]. Keytones are the 'byproduct' of when lipids are broken down. The body preferentially uses the 'sugars' derived from carbohydrates [and to a lesser extent protein] initially, and your Blood Sugar level will be high and then reduce over time as your body uses this energy source. When these are depleted [used up] the body then reverts to using the other source [lipids] in a process called ketosis, this is when your ketone measurement will rise due to the increased amount of the byproduct [ketone] being produced.

      @@hayleyprice8345 Your welcome, hopefully I managed to explain it in a 'non-technical way so that you can understand the difference between the two measurements?...just to add, usually what you will 'see' as the preferred 'sugars' [from carbs and protein] are used up, is the blood sugar reading will go lower and the ketone measure will go higher, this indicating that you are going into ketosis [fat burning] mode; hence why you need to take the two different measurements to get a full 'picture' of what is happening.
