  • Marshall had this big wooden box added to the boat. He was going to make a speedboat with two large outboard motors. Everyone said that was a crazy plan and the boat will break up.
So I plan to put three motors here instead.
One will be a 115 horsepower Mercury Optimax because it is the smallest of a line of engines that can turn a larger diameter propeller. This should give me pretty good gas mileage even though I will be loading the boat down with a lot of equipment.

Nice job! Good to have a lot of space for several engine options. Nothing beats the catamaran in this regard!

So true! Everyone in the Bahamas has at least two engines on their boat. A lot of times its a large main engine and a smaller "self rescue" motor. Trevor's old outboard is being rebuilt to serve as the self rescue motor.

That looks really good that will hold the weight of your motor no problem

I hope it holds the weight of the motors. There will be some redundancy in case the big motor doesn't start, but if the transom falls off, it takes all the motors with it. There is no redundancy for this.

Not sure how strong I need to make the boat transom, so overkill seemed like a conservative strategy.
