      We had a shit ton of this stuff in Iraq that we got from the unit we replaced in 05. It'll go through vehicles like you'd expect but rounds are so hard and fast they just put small hole in people without much energy transfer. They still bleed but not as effective as API on soft targets.

      I think the muzzle break off is safer as slaps are very dangerous out of a rifle. the sabot can break apart and kick back through the muzzle break. not to mention depending on barrel thickness might pre-maturely exit the barrel being full Tungsten harder than the barrel. Cool Vid

      Hubby and i own a .50 that was built by a local shop about 15 years ago. There's no MB and it's single shot bolt action (similar to a .50 big bore grizzly) the rifle sits in a glass bedded beaver tailed target laminated bench rest type stock and it's 29.5 inch long barrel.
      It's wearing a nightforce F1 5-25x56 Beast with 34mm Night Force Pic rings. Gun is wildly accurate out shooting our AI TAC 50 at a 1000y. The gun with scope weighs 24.5 pounds... Shooting 750 grain A max hand loads it's a pleasure to shoot. Recoil is there don't get be wrong but is no more then a 10lb hunting rig without a MB in .300 win mag shooting shooting 200g loads at least she preceived recoil is about the same (I'm a 125lb 5'5" female and love shooting that .50 it's a real thrill, i am not recoil shy tho) to me... Our TAC 50 recoil is less for sure but the side directed muzzle blast is fucking brutal to whoever isn't on the trigger and honestly i enjoy the recoil as it isn't to much to handle but it's a thrill to hold on to something of that power and not have the senstation dulled down by a huge muzzle brake (within reason, we do own guns that i won't shoot if they didn't have a brake. One being .300RUM that's in a carbon stock and carbon wrapped barrel, it's hubbies Elk and mtn goat rifle shooting 230g SMKs the gun weighs 10.6lbs with NF F1 on it... It has a removable threaded on brake.... I will shoot it with the brake but only shot it once without the brake as hubby wanted me to see how much of a difference the brake made...it hurt me and made me cry messing up my makeup at the range... Hardest kicking rifle I've ever shot bar none. With the brake it's still a monster on the shoulder but it's manageable )
      We have a single shot bolt gun that's a heavy bench setup weighing 27lbs with NF F1 in .416B and it's not running a brake neither and it's a delight to shoot, recoil is easily handled and again no harsh muzzle blast that spotters or others at the range have to deal with and the gun is absolutely the most accurate ELR setup we own our have ever shot.

    I'll never see, hear, or even think about another .50 BMG, of any type, SLAP or not, without thinking of Scott from Kentucky Ballistics. To say he's lucky to be alive is the understatement of the decade. I'm happy he'll make a full recovery.
    I'm also curious to hear KNOWLEDGEABLE, EXPERT opinions about what the differences would have been in terms of how the rifle catastrophically failed and the injuries sustained if this had happened with a semi-auto like the Barret M82/M107?
    And just to be clear, the catastrophic failure of that Serbu was no fault of the rifle's and was almost definitely caused by a severe propellent overcharge. In fact, because quality firearms are engineered to sustain over-pressures way outside of their normal operating range as a safety buffer, I think it's likely that at least two of the previous rounds were also extremely hot and the rifle successfully absorbed the extreme over-pressure of those rounds before finally catastrophically failing on the last one. No blame on Scott, but hat's why it's always good to quickly inspect critical parts of a firearm between every few rounds or magazine changes and look for noticeable stress fractures or other signs of abnormal stresses. Scott even mentions in his video that the two rounds fired before the catastrophic one had noticeably much larger fireballs than the ones before.

    Moly has nothing to do with wind-resistance or drag. It's simply a dry lubricant, like graphite, and the biggest benefit would probably be providing a slicker transition between the feed-ramp and the chamber. I see no problem with Moly-coated projectiles. What I do have a problem with is the idea of buying ammo that's been Moly-coated at the factory. Just buy a can of Moly and spray it on any type of cartridge (the whole thing except for the rim-face) and you'll produce exactly the same affect, in addition to lubricating the case, which has obvious additional benefits compared to what you have there. They must have seen you coming from a mile away lol. You could literally have sprayed every single one of those different cartridges with off-the-shelf Moly and produced the same effect with additional benefits that you don't get by just lubricating the pill.
    Moly lube isn't some kind of exclusive, "members-only" thing, and it's nothing new. You can literally buy a big spray-can of decent quality stuff at Wal-Mart, and a little goes a long way. Just don't get it on your clothes when it's still wet. You'll never get it off. It's essentially a sort of paint that acts like a lubricant. It doesn't provide much corrosion-resistance, though, so don't use it to lube your rifles or pistols. It works great on machine-guns and M4s in the desert, but for every-day use in Temperate environments, you need the corrosion-resistance of an oil like CLP/"3-in-1".

    SLAP = Saboted Light Armor Penetrator
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saboted_light_armor_penetrator
    *Design and use*
    The SLAP design incorporates a polymer sabot, which allows for the use of a tungsten penetrator projectile of a lesser diameter than the original bore. By using the casing of a large cartridge with a lightweight projectile, the velocity of the projectile is greatly increased and the sectional density is improved.
    SLAP rounds have been designed for use against lightly armored vehicles and aircraft.

    Thanks for sharing. I’ll most likely will never get a chance to shoot any of theses rounds. I knew they were powerful but had no idea they would do what they do.

      Your welcome. They are serious rounds for sure. We will be shooting them at 3/4” AR 500 steel next week.👍

    Hey man! If you line up your whole body with the rifle making a straight line the recoil will not be as bad, avoid being perpendicular with the rifle if that makes sense.

      @@GoingBallistic Going Ballistic I'll guess they'd go through max of 40mm of proper armor grade steel.
      Apparently a .50 AP will go through 25mm of armor.

    You are gonna have alot better time with the recoil of any large bore firearm if you lay "behind" the rifle. Prone shooting 101.

    • @mortenjrgensen5497

      Iam sure it can go through the side of a T72...if its under 100 m away from the shooter. Can you test it..

    • @deathdragon2283
      @deathdragon2283 4 года назад

      Morten Jørgensen sure, just let him pick up a T72 from the local tank shop.
      In all seriousness I doubt it would go through the side of a t72. I believe it’s side armor is 2 1/2- 3 inches thick. That’s ignoring the side skirts

    i’m not expert but aren’t you supposed to align ur body with the rifle?

    • @Sheridantank
      @Sheridantank 3 года назад

      For recoil, yes. When you're shooting one shot at a time, do what's comfortable.
      I'm no expert either, but I know a little.

    • @Sheridantank
      @Sheridantank 3 года назад

      After seeing the position, yes you're definitely right. The recoil got him because his body was in line for the recoil. You don't need to be perfectly in line, but the closer the better. Especially with repeated shots or high power firearms.

    The thing with SLAP rounds is they are smaller hardened projectiles but with massive gains in velocity - hence that shoulder blow out recoil

    He was wrong about that last round. The API tracer didn't even detonate until it hit the steel behind the glass. It blew thru the glass.

      @mississippirebel1409 4 года назад

      I'm sure you have heard of an APFSDS round that tanks shot right? That is what is called a sabot round. All SLAP stands for is saboted light armor penetrator. Bascially is just a mini tank sabot round. These are made out of tungsten, but tanks in the US use DU (depleted uranium) penetrators because they are better at penetrating armor because they are self sharpening and don't mushroom like tungsten.
