- OK we got the 1" AR 500 plate in and Justin got it all painted up for us. So we decided to try some of 50 Cals Baddest Rounds against it, and see how they performed. I was pretty amazed at the results.

SLAP's velocity is why it's able to penetrate an inch of steel.

I’d like to see a video where you see the limit of the slap. Like 1 1/4 steel, 1 3/8 steel, and just keep moving up in size until you find which will stop it.
Just one problem. All that steel and all those slap rounds will cost a pretty penny.

Titanium is much softer than ar500 will likely go right thru
It absorbs it better making it harder to penetrate

before seeing the video I bet no conventional round will fully penetrate the plate but the SLAP rounds will.
I’ve seen a humve’s bullet prof glass shot with a slap and raufoss but didn’t realize how much better a slap round was.
1000fps more on the SLAP makes a big difference for sure.
How does the gun make no noise, is it just edited out so it’s no demonetized

It would be really nice to know the distance at which you are shooting. Doesn't have to be super precise just a stepped off distance and have that included in either the description or the video. We shot this from 25 yards or 75 feet or even something like we were 30-40 feet away from target. Anything is better than close. Because what you consider close and what I consider close can be two totally different things. Thanks for the vids and look forward to seeing some info on distances in the future.

You can fire a slap with the break on the rifle? I heard you need to take mb off? This true?
Yes you need to take the brake off. Justin made us an insert for our Bushmaster 50’s brake and seems to work quite well. He is working on a few other designs for it👍

Since the penetrator is so short, i wonder how a 3 or 4 inch slanted spaced armor would do against that. Like i could think of two tests, one where you have a 1 and a 3/4 inch thick ar 500 slab at like 15 degrees, and one where you have a 3/4 inch slab without any angle like in the video, but you have 1/4 inch slab of ar500 at 15 to 20 degrees spaced 2 or 3 inches away from the plate. if i recall spaced armor at an angle works against tank SABOTs but only if the space between the slanted armor and the actual armor is greater than the lenght of the penetrator.
Space armor will only work if it disrupt the bullets like fragmenting it or making it tumble. IF the bullet stays in one piece unaffected by the spacings it basically becomes EASIER to penetrate space plates. Meaning space armor is actually easier to penetrate, not harder.
This fact has been proven by countless people online including Going Ballistics.

When I made a couple of RUclips videos I caught myself saying 'as you can see" way to many times but it's difficult not to isnt it lol!! But noticed alot of bigger channels hardly ever say it? I reckon its one of those things that has to be avoided as much as possible. Just a tip and funny backstory so you know im not being critical. Ace video 👍

It definitely would be able to penetrate more if the steel wouldn't move when shot ie. The side of an armor truck/plane or wall

Honestly I just google them, If they are for sale you will find them. Mostly on the on the pew pew auction sites. (sorry youtube rules I can't say which ones)
@@GoingBallistic I'd seen those where it looks like some Marine swiped a pocket full from the armory and is reselling them on the down low for a quick buck, but I'd hoped there was some obscure retailer out there selling new or surplus ones that I'd missed on Google. It absolutely blows my mind that it's punching through 1" plate like that given my M33 barely even divots my 1/2" steel. If you don't mind my asking, what do you consider a reasonable price per round on those?

Did you fire the slap round with the muzzle brake attached? I've heard that can cause big problems.

@@GoingBallistic i have an idea for your next set of videos, if you can come up with the money it'll take to do it. everyone is doing videos on .50 BMG these days, honestly its getting kinda boring... why not upgrade to a CheyTac Intervention in .408? yeah, its a SLIGHTLY smaller round than the .50, but is a solid copper projectile, when combined with the rifle, boasting Sub-MOA accuracy at over 2 miles.... the .50 is lucky to reach a mile with any kind of accuracy. thinking the .408 being slightly smaller and lighter, moving faster, might have a bit more punch/penetration power to really punish that steel ;) fair warning though, lowest price i've ever seen on the rifle is $14K, and the ammo is 10-15 bucks a pop. pretty sure you'd be one of the first on youtube to make videos using the platform if you did though! ;P

Yeah, totally fake. Just a 4 dollar API round.
Making the steel thicker isn't as effective at stopping bullets as hardening the steel to a higher level such as AR550 or AR600.
Thickness is everything in stopping projectiles. This is common sense physics...1 piece of paper cannot stop a bullet. However a book with MANY papers can "because" enough amount of thickness.
Not a good idea to fire those SLAP rounds through a barrel with a muzzle brake. The sabot can cause damage to the brake as it separates on exiting the barrel. Pretty much they were meant for the M2/M3
You are correct but if you go back o some earlier videos you’ll see that we made an adapter to fit inside out stock brake to work with SLAP rounds.
