    I have seen several cutting boards made with barrel staves but this is the first I have seen where the staves were straightened. That is a pure genius move. I make a lot of things with barrel staves. With the curvature of the staves you have to get very creative with how approach everything and with that you also have limitations on what you can do. The curvature also causes a lot of waste of the wood. Straightening out the staves is a real game changer and opens up a lot of possibilities other than cutting boards.

    You’re the man! I’ve been wanting to make something with staves but didn’t know how to get the straight. Genius! That board looks cool!

    I've been planning a steam box for this purpose. If you could go back, would you make the box bigger to accommodate 2-3 staves at a time? I was thinking about a 12x12x5' box for this reason.

    This is great, simple use of wallpaper steamer. How long do you clamp for?

    • @BoujeeBarrels
      @BoujeeBarrels  2 года назад +1

      since I had so many staves to steam, I only clamped for 1.5 hours while I waited for the next stave to steam. ideally you would clamp for 12+ hours to ensure it keeps its new shape.

    Number one question is how much can you sell them for? seems like a lot of works.

    Great idea to steam bend the staves back to flat. Do you have a video or a few instructions on how you built the steam box and what feeds into it?

      Thank you Alex! and I got my inspiration from ruclips.net/video/NMvc2tuVGcQ/видео.html , and I use a similar steam generator, search amazon: B005JRF43M

    Man you should’ve cracked ss cut it and made it an end grain cutting board! Still cool though!

  • @SelfSM1987
    @SelfSM1987 3 года назад

    Could you have left the little grooves that hold onto the barrel top on the end or would that have not worked well?

    • @BoujeeBarrels
      @BoujeeBarrels  3 года назад +1

      The glue-up needs completely flat surfaces, the ends would have left gaps and resulted in a weak bond.

      @@BoujeeBarrels that sucks having those end connected would look so cool

    Any tips on how you built your steam box and press? I was going to get rid of Wagner wallpaper steamer just this weekend and now I've found another use for it!

    I have done a few of these and just left the curve. I had voids but I Just cut around them. The pattern is much more chaotic. IS this technically an In-Grain board? Great video, super easy watch.

    • @BoujeeBarrels
      @BoujeeBarrels  3 года назад

      Yes, end-grain cutting board. And thank you very much! Glad you liked it!

      how did you cut around the voids?

    • @krisbredwell2644
      @krisbredwell2644 2 года назад

      @@oxymoron-om5xm you mean bung holes? :-) So i did end grain boards so I just ditched about 10% of my cuts due to voids. If i have a bad run i point the voids to the bottom and make a one sided board.
