    I'm learning this, and even though it may sound short and sweet, it is very easy for the right hand wrist to get tired when playing. It's a very cute etude, though!

    25/9 is my happy place and Lisitsa does it 100% flawlessly. Seriously, the tension in the B section is downright playful and after it I don't think I can hear the return to the A section at :25 without a huge smile getting plastered on my face. Next time you are super sad, I challenge you to listen to this piece and remain morose. Such a joyful and wonderful piece that she knocks out of the park as always.
    You can even catch a sly smile on her face just after :30. She's having so much fun. :3

      @@peep3879 Even Chopin resented how small his hands were. I don't remember the exact quote, but I think it was regarding Liszt, he said irritably: "He can play 10ths like I can play octaves."

  • @Santosificationable
    @Santosificationable 11 лет назад +1

    You're partly correct. I have read that ragtime composers, specifically Scott Joplin, took huge inspiration from his notable left-hand leaps and developed them, incorporating them into something more syncopated. It's no wonder Joplin has the same "happy", jumpy feel Chopin exudes in most of his bright pieces.
    Ragtime composers, however, did not pursue technique as much as Chopin did. Joplin is popular his "not fast" markings; he intended his music to be bright, but calm.

    Any 'hobby type pianists' who have tried to play this will know how deceptively difficult it really is.
    Valentina L flies thru it and ends with a delicate touch.
    I just wonder if she took a short cut and played split single note octaves rather than single note third etc ?

    • @emlmm88
      @emlmm88 9 лет назад +5

      +divvy1400yam600 It's not _that_ difficult. You just have to keep a relaxed wrist and do most of the work by sliding.

    • @Hannlei98
      @Hannlei98 7 лет назад +1

      It's not terribly difficult, the octaves actually make it much easier and give your hand a better overall placement to get the first two eighth notes of the beat.

      @@buntafujiwara3289 Thanks. I never get why people think that his etudes are such hard pieces. They're not cakewalks, but they are meant to be played and to train learning pianists - if they were so hard that literally only virtuosos could perform them then that would kind of defeat the point wouldn't it? :)

    @pianoprodigy987 Completely agree. It always makes me smile when I play it, but when she does, it's so interpretive and funny and modern. Grew up listening to Rubinstein and Ohlsson and my personal fave Vladimir Ashkenazy, she makes Chopin sound less lonely, aka Michael Nyman, and more fun. Come to think of it would like to hear her interpretation of Nymans' works.

  • @Santosificationable

    Err...no. Although it amusingly sounds like Joplin on crack or something, Jazz didn't evolve from something like this. It came from the African musical tradition of strong sense of rhythm and community music. Jazz has a strong percussive feel that was present in African indigenous peoples since anciency.
    But yes, that's the Classical piece closest to ragtime I've heard so far, so thumbs up :D .
