      Don’t you contempt junior doctors for wanting over double that of inflation as a pay rise when there essentially apprentices? Do you deserve more money now inflation is at 14%? Because if you think you do then how can you support junior doctors wanting an insane 35% pay increase when they already earn more than 50% of the country.. if you don’t think you deserve more money for normal jobs then again how can you not laugh at people who think it’s acceptable to make inflation worse for everyone else so junior doctors can live like kings compared to the rest of us.. 35% is more than double the inflation rate. That would cost billions which would make food, gas, electric more expensive for everyone in the country and you think it’s not a joke that the selfish junior doctors would rather everyone else suffer so they can have an insane pay rise instead of working hard to become a senior doctor and be on £100,000 per year anyway without a pay rise which is the ultimate goal of every junior doctor so to say in their apprentice stage they deserve to be well off and be able to have a house, sports car and pay off all their debts before their even a proper doctor is utterly ridiculous and I don’t think you could of thought this through you must just be going along with what everyone is repeating without understanding how it impacts everyone in the country this pay increase of again 35%.. you can say doctors deserve everything they can get but we the people have to pay for it because money doesn’t grow on trees it has to be printed and every pound that is made makes inflation worse which means everything you buy to survive will cost more. So if inflation increases to 20% but you get a 20% increase you are no better off but everyone else who did not get the pay increase now has to pay an extra fifth on every single thing they buy.. if you can’t understand that you shouldn’t be allowed to vote.

    • @Wow91163
      @Wow91163 Год назад +12

      @@Underground247 I don't have any contempt for anyone in any profession taking action to try and stick up for themselves against a government that has systematically overseen the dismantling of public services in this country for the last decade and a half. To say they are essentially apprentices shows a dire misunderstanding of what a junior doctor is or the work they do. They have completed five years of university before entering into a hugely overworked workforce, doing extremely high stress and potentially life saving work at a very young age. Regardless, your ire should still be directed to the people who created the conditions that necessitated a strike; the Tory government. Not only did they allow public services to crumble, their wanton disregard for sensible economic policy in favour of insane ideological dogma and pandering to the uber-wealthy has allowed inflation to get to this point, which is of course hurting everyone. But that doesn't mean we should be angry people for saying this is unacceptable. I think if everyone took your approach then it would just be a case of accepting the erosion of living conditions because if one group complained then that is somehow a slight on everyone else? That's not a society I would like to live in. The 35% increase is merely a demand to have their salaries returned, in real terms, to what they were being paid in 2008. If 35% sounds like a lot that is emblematic of how horrific a government has to be to allow doctors pay to be cut by such a huge amount over the last 15 years. Also, paying our healthcare staff enough would lead to better outcomes for patients, which would prevent repeat visits, extended periods on expensive medication or indeed prevent the need for some expensive operations. It's not just frittering money away. Not to mention that compared other rich countries we hardly invest anything into our healthcare as it is. It's understaffed (with many doctors leaving because they can get better pay elsewhere...) and doesn't have enough equipment to treat the people who so desperately need it. Our survival rate from heart attacks and cancers are extremely poor in this country. When you look at all of that, it is really, really hard to tell junior doctors they are being unreasonable. These are not people who chose a career for reasons of greed, and they all know when they agree to do the job that it is going to be gruelling both physically and mentally. So you know that when they say enough is enough, they aren't making things up.

    Health professionals need lower hours and increased numbers of staff on duty. My daughter, a Midwife, works 13.5 hours on a 12-hour shift and regularly cannot fit in a lunch break and even a loo break because she cannot leave the patient because there is nobody to relieve her. She has been qualified just one year and is already BURNED OUT!

      Unfortunately the Nursing Unions supported the transition to 12 hour shifts with minimal breaks and handovers because it allows their members to get a weeks work done in 3 days. They then use the other 4 days to carry out childcare duties, partying or moonlighting.
      A fairly quick and simple way to reduce stress and tiredness would be to return to a regular pattern of 8 hour shifts.

      @@keithrobb4509 That is a bit of a cynical response. There is no partying or 'moonlighting', whatever that is, for my daughter. The first day off is just sleep around the clock, but she has to do babysitting for one of her sisters, and carer duties for me, her mum. If the hours were reduced, even to 10 hours, to 3.5 days of work, the longterm health impact wouldn't be so heavy. I wonder how many NHS midwives abscond somewhere down the line...

In reality we have lost more of our workforce in most of our public sectors than they are proposing to implement. And in the time it takes to train, educate and resource the workforce more staff will leave leading to fewer staff that have experience in running busy departments day in day out. More people will be on waiting lists, more people will get sicker and more people will DIE. That is the outcome and Sunak knows it and doesn't care. I was paid very well and I also fired lots of useless managers who pretended to work when all they did was complicate simple matters. The NHS is hemorrhaging funds that could be used to pay the medical staff who are the most important individuals without whom hospitals and clinics cannot work. Managers and administrative staff are pencil pushers who only "work" for 8 hours a day. The rate of pay should be no more than 20 GBP per hour at the highest end of the scale for managers and they should not receive bonuses and other undeserved rewards! Doctors and nurses should earn more, starting at 30 GBP for the life saving work that they do.
      While I agree managers and administrative staff are necessary we cannot compare the work they do with what the Medical staff accomplish for 16 hours every day. Their pay should reflect their time and value.

Meanwhile doctors and nurses who do ACTUAL WORK have to deal with more than their fair share of cases, while being on their feet for 16 hours shifts to care for patients. They are being overworked, under paid and undervalued. They can barely get by with what they're paid due to their student loans and are left unable to afford basic things like rent, transportation and even food. Meanwhile, NHS directors, managers and some admin staff get salaries to the tune of 100,000 GBP to 200,000 GBP per year which is not including the other ridiculous perks and bonuses they receive on top of their salaries which is unfair and forgivable!
      I would know how to manage the NHS and the first thing I would do is get rid of the current minister of health because he should be a medical professional. Then I would get rid of all managers in every medical department of every hospital throughout the NHS entirely and replace them all with individuals who come from a medical background as well. I would only keep HR, Accounting and reception staff but everyone else would have to go so the NHS can start to operate efficiently and effectively. It isn't hard to do at all.

    • @Liverpool1ne
      @Liverpool1ne Год назад +5

      @@JESUS.IS.LORD.AND.GOD.FOREVER just to pick up a few key points.
      1. Managers tend to be band 8 and above on NHS payscale so bear in mind that many ‘managers’ are not those portrayed as being on six figure salaries.
      2. I don’t think the answer to paying the entire NHS frontline workforce a higher wage is to remove pay from managers, it is to properly fund the NHS in the first place. Sure there will be efficiencies if you look at back office roles and senior management salaries but not enough to fund the billions we are talking about here.
      3. It wouldn’t be at all practical to replace all of the managers with staff from medical backgrounds because there simply aren’t enough, a point the caller emphasised to the PM, and of course fewer and fewer are welcome due to our delightful Home Secretary and her policies.
      So in summary, given a blank sheet of paper and unlimited resources yes you could achieve what you claim isn’t hard to sort out but in reality it isn’t possible.
      I don’t blame the PM personally for the running of the NHS, I blame the conservatives for years of chronic underfunding, lack of investment and the numerous wasteful exercises that the NHS has been through over the years with started with Lansley in 2013. If we had a better economy (Brexit 🥱), better healthcare prevention, better housing, better food on our plates, we would as a country be in a far better place, be able to fund services appropriately and have better outcomes as a result (including fairer pay).

      I strongly suspect a few of their cronies have done very, very well financially from the pandemic ... you know, that time when we were all supposed to do exactly as we were told, and clap like well trained circus seals for the NHS on Thursday nights.
      Im just amazed they didnt demand that we all made honking sounds at the same time. Meanwhile, back at the ranch Bojo the Clown was partying his little heart out, pretending to be clueless about silly things like dying elderly relatives.

    As a cancer patient diagnosed back in December this is very close to my heart right now. I’ve been in and out of various hospitals like a yo-yo over recent months and I honestly cannot criticise a single doctor, nurse or consultant for the dedication they give everyday, they’re are simply run off their feet due to severe staff shortages and the reason for that is they’re not being looked after by this awful awful government. Staff are leaving in droves and not enough new people are joining. This is totally the government’s fault, they have created the environment deliberately. The NHS ethos goes against Tory ideology. If we as a nation want OUR nhs to survive then this government HAS to go at the earliest opportunity!

One of the most important matters is cost of living its unacceptable, the debt, NHS STAFF SALARIES NOT RISEN FOR YEARS, doctor's nurses hospital staff working long unhealthy hours, work load increased, staff shortages, dangerous working conditions, this is all under the conservatives government they have consecutively year in year out reduced the budget for the NHS on purpose!!! Keeping the staff happy hasn't been on the TORY governments priorities its been cutting cost & seeing what they can get away with, they ultimately want the NHS TO BE SOLD OFF TO CHANGE THE NHS TO A AMERICANISED SYSTEM WHICH THE BRITISH PEOPLE WILL NOT ACCEPT!!!
