Music video by The Beatles performing Rain. (C) 2015 Calderstone Productions Limited (a division of Universal Music Group) / Subafilms Ltd
Ringo was recently quoted as choosing this as his favorite Beatles song. That's why I'm here.
Hahhah me too..
I can see why. Ringo’s drumming is phenomenal on this song.
Same
He said: "I feel as though it was someone else playing." "I was possessed!"
@@kubadzejkob332 so interesting. He may have been. Sometimes the creative flow is so powerful it's as if the artist is just the conduit for something bigger coming through. Makes me wonder about the afterlife and if artists who've passed on can re-enter temporarily while the living are so powerfully engaged.
Paul McCartney’s bassline in this song is pure perfection.

It sounds like taxman but in a different key
❤
Especially considering it was actually played much faster than we hear it here, then slowed down. :)
What I noticed too...and the psychedelic sound....Ringo is amazing and says this is his FAVORITE song to play.
The Beatles wouldn’t be a British rock band without a song about the rain.

@@netrabl Music is for all humanity regardless of the band. I agree. But they are in fact British.
I think what’s fascinating about them is that they behave like very wise children. They sing these amazing songs, but they’re always looking off in different directions, apparently losing interest, forgetting where they are, laughing at something random and then momentarily reconnecting with the fact that they’re meant to be performing! It’s very adorable.
Ringo's drumming and Paul's basslines are heavenly.
Hence why they are still alive

For 99% of bands, this would be their best track. For The Beatles, buried as a B side that didn’t even make it to an album.

Simply incredible when you think about it from that angle!!
They not included songs from their singles in the albums
For 99% of bands, All Things Must Pass, Hear Me Lord, and Isn't It A Pity would be their best work. For the Beatles, it wasn't even worth their time to record them
That one came of 45 you know what I mean

I love this era of Beatles so much!!! Rubber Soul & Revolver
Every Beatles video:
Paul: Always looking like he's actually enjoying himself.
John: Occasionally cracks a smile.
Ringo: Concentration/Boredom.
George: Always looking like he wants to be somewhere else.
George’s smile is the rarest but the best
Correct - except for perhaps their earlier vids where Paul and John are consistently giggling with each other.
@Caleb Reader ikr? That’s why I love the Let It Be album cover! George has a big smile in that photo!
@@nightshadespectre409 Indeed. Of the four, he's got the best pic on the cover.

This is the perfect rock song... John's haunting vocals, George's understated guitar, Paul's incredible bass lines, and Ringo's virtuoso drum work.
Damn skippy!
Incomparable.
What did you smoked?
it's one of the best Beatles song for their individual contributions
It is! It's a lovely pop song masking a lovely hard rock song.
This would have fitted so well on Revolver
i think it’s great as a single tbh
LP D'A even if the time wasn’t right, this feels like a perfect song for Rubber Soul to me
Well it was recorded during the Revolver sessions.
What?? This song is such a Rubber Soul song
Fabrício Núbile I always see rubber soul and revolver as a double album. They’re very similar
A complete masterpiece in under 3 minutes
Who says Ringo can’t drum? His drumming in this song is spot on.
nobody says that
Anyone who says that is a moron
I've seriously never understood why everybody always says that. It seems like it's changing. He's a great drummer even technically, not to mention musically -- and before you think about the historical context. I always think about the figure of the _drummer_ in rock before the Beatles: it basically didn't exist. Ringo created it.
Listen to *ANY* Beatles number and the drumming will be exactly right for it. Ringo's expertise was in judging what the song needed and then playing it without over-elaboration.
Ockham's Razor states that what can be done with less is done in vain with more. Personally, I agree.
Always spot on
Ringos drumming here is simply outstanding.
He has said it's the Beatles track that he is most proud of.
this and Tomorrow Never Knows are probably his best performances
He was unbelievably hot that year.
I keep hearing that...what is so special about his drumming here? I mean, it’s good but i don’t get the “his best drumming” stuff.
I read an article by drum session legend Kenny Aronoff in which he said he used to make fun of Ringo's drumming until some magazine asked him to do a breakdown of this song. It blew Kenny's mind that Ringo never repeated a part in this song - every verse is different, as is every chorus. In effect, it's a 3-minute drum solo carrying the rest of the song.
At one point, I feared the Beatles will be forgotten one day. But like Beethoven and Mozart, their music is forever immortal
Not anytime soon. My 3 year old is a big fan.
I think the fact they they are as popular as ever over 1/2 a century later and still so beloved and respected confirms it will be a really long time before they are forgotten. As a matter of fact my money would be on that they won't be forgotten until or unless all of human history is somehow erased or destroyed.

One of my favorite Beatles songs.
When Donahue asked Ringo what was his favourite Beatles song, he answered 'Rain'.
Ringo's drum.. Paul's bass.. John's voice.. WOW!!
Don't forget George's coolness
George’s guitar is great in this just year how it blends
John did have a great voice. It was a very distinctive voice, unique, pleasant. I wish he could have kept it together. But in the end, JOhn had a tough early life it took its toll in his later years. John gave us a lot. I wish he had been able to give us even more. But he did give us a lot, as half of the greatest writing team in history. Of course, Music did not really get going till the 50s and the Beatles "Revolutionized" it. Love the Beatles.

Totally agree!! Similar guitar tones, drumming feel..recorded same time frame..The most awesomeest band ever!! This song still gived me goose bumps. Still trying to figure out, by ear, how Harrison is really playing his part..sounds like it's de-tuned..
"She Said She Said' is a fantastically-underrated Beatles classic . . .
Paul was not playing bass on She Said She Said. He got pissed and walked out which left George playing bass. Still one of my favorite bass lines and it was Paul.
John:😎
Paul: 😃
Ringo: 🙂
George: 😐
Оченьлюблю
@@НаташаКорнилова-п8ь This song is all about what Paul and Ringo are doing. Take them away, and it is nothing but air.
@@OneEyedKeys George is the lead guitarist, I feel like alot of people forget that. They are all equally important.
@@dorkle9085 George was the lead guitarist, but John and Paul were the frontmen
And that's exactly how they are hahaha
2:48 the smile that Paul makes when he sees cool John really being into the song is beautiful and warms my heart.
@2:51.. ☄️💧☔🌈😎😁💓☮️✝️☯️🛐
Are you sure you put in the right time stamp?
Wrong time stamp dude
@@funwithfish1507 Do you have the attention spam of a fish or what? Just look at Paul for a couple of seconds and you'll see the face I'm talking about
he means when paul looks at john a few seconds after the time stamp
They were ALL AT THEIR BEST IN 1966❤
Those drums! That bass! STILL UNBELIEVABLE! 🤯
the drums are ok I guess, he's no Keith Moon :P
The bass is awesome of course
It's not about technical proficiency. It's about the creativity and musicality of the fills Ringo plays in this song.
Ah, c'mon now - Moon is fantastic! But he's no Ringo Starr. Ringo was *indisputably* the best drummer for The Beatles.
Oh Comparing Keith Moon to Ringo Starr is ridiculous, they have two completely different styles of drumming
well i didn't think people would take that comment so seriously, i even put the tongue out emote!
i like both don't worry but keith is my fav after neil peart
There have been many great bands....Queen and Pink Floyd come to mind.....but nothing compares to the sheer brilliance and talent of the Beatles.
...and Led Zeppelin
This guy hasn't heard of Led Zeppelin
@@carlneoh5843 Oh, I'm very aware of Led Zeppelin. Good, but they can't compare to the Beatle's body of work and influence on the global music scene.
I think Pink Floyd with Syd Sounds and Brian with The Beach Boys, was the most influential of em all
Queen are garbage in comparison to The Beatles, Floyd, and LZ.
2:14 Paul and George smiling. Dunno why but it makes me very happy five decades later.
I think they were really enjoying themselves then
tms6279 me too !
It's nice. Especially if you contrast this with the Hey Jude and Revolution films from two years later, where they look tired, unhappy, and a lot more than two years older.
This such a wonderful kindhearted song of the truth. 😊❤ Love all his beautiful meaningful songs. What a gift he is from God. ❤
The bassline on this song and taxman are legendary
Who plays bass on taxman?
Also Sexy Sadie on the white album.
@@T-Dawg-lp2sh Paul played lead guitar on Taxman, not sure if George played bass. He did sometimes. And yes, I said Paul played that incredible guitar solo on Taxman.
Yes - they're similar lines. As AC said, Rain would have gone well on Revolver. Actually it was recorded at the same time.
Check out Don't let me down then. Killer baseline
I know this sounds a little crazy but this is my favorite Beatles song.
9
Lady madonna
Makes sense to me
Not crazy at all. It’s unique, nothing like it before or since
Makes perfect sense. This song is stunning. Grateful Dead’s version is not bad but not a patch on this.
What visionaries these guys were. There aren't going to be another Beatles.
And there hasn't.
NEVER!!!
Well amen to that .
Freaking genius at work!!
Back when black and white was colorful
The way this video (and others) is extremely reminiscent of the early photographs taken by Astrid Kirchherr in Hamburg in the early sixties. To me, she inspired the iconic look of the Beatles that was used for the early part of their career.
Part of the Beatles magic is making people happy listening to their music.
Best part of this is John trying to “sing” his reversed vocals at the end 😎
Haha you can tell he’s having fun with it. Love his smile.
the film was in reverse for that i believe
@@carolfreitag6847 no, they’re playing the instruments normally
the closeup of John you can tell the film is in reverse
Lol
Just love to see them smiling at each other.....so much fun
one of the most beautiful songs ever written... thank you John Lennon
God, I love this song.
Ringo's drumming is superb.
Paul's bass, George's guitarwork just sounds so damn British (if there is such a thing), and John's perfect vocals. All together, it's one of their very best.
I can't imagine a world without Beatles music, for me. I remember when each album came out. I was born at the right time.
Okay, please excuse me, but they're going to take me to Strawberry fields now...
te envidio!
me too!! 1957
as is Pauls incredible bass line
This song is awsome but lets be real. This drum take is really horrible, i mean really really horrible
@@fchampd4512 For you it is. Too bad for you.
A sonic marvel. Everything is amazing: Ringo's drums, Paul's bass, George's guitar, John's voice. A musical masterpiece.
This group will always be larger than life. Their egos were totally justified.
Given their unparalleled popularity, they were rather humble
What egos? They were probably the least egocentric band that ever existed.
@Jussiesmullet I agree, they seemed quite down to earth to me, all things considered. If you look at the majority of other bands or artists, it’s almost inevitable, but they managed.
I may be stuck in a time warp, but 2021, Beatles are STILL the best ever.
Good place to be stuck.
Started listening to them in the mid 70s (born in 1966) and never stopped.
Stay in that time warp-their music was and still is the best
nope... you're right as rain...
I will never say that they are the best ever, because who am I to say what the future lies ahead (one hopes better things), but I can definitely say that they were without a shadow of a doubt the best artistic act that ever happened in the 20th Century. Nobody can change my mind about that. No other artist or collective could ever top it, no Stanley Kubrick, no Francis Ford Coppola, no James Joyce, no Virginia Woolf, no Gabriel García Márquez, no Vincent Van Gogh, no Shigeru Miyamoto, could ever afford the sheer massiveness of The Beatles. They are for the ages. And don't get me wrong, those are some of the best artists of the 20th Century, but while they might go out out of style (and they do I guarantee you make you raise a smile), The Beatles is something I'm so clearly sure will outlive any other artistic device ever conceived it makes me believe there's a God out there.
The Beatles 1966 songs like Rain, Taxman, And your bird can sing etc, had a huge influence on New wave bands in the late 70s like the Jam and XTC and 90s Brit pop bands like Oasis. The imagination and creativity the Beatles got out of just guitar, bass, drums, and backward tapes in 1966 was astonishing.
And broadly speaking, in American rock
Not sure about XTC but The Dukes of Stratosphere carried this off perfectly 😊
I was thinking of the XTC song 'Tower of London' influenced by 'Rain' The Dukes... I will have to check them out dont know their music. Thanks@@colinhoward2064
I couldn't agree more. Those who are dismissive of the Beatles need to consider what rock music was like before they came along and what it sounded like as a result of the music they recorded.
@@richardbaker3000 Yep. I even think Jimi Hendrix's classic album 'Are you experienced' was heavily influenced by 'Revolver''
Should be the National Anthem for Britain
Ireland
JeromeHattKronen1664 omg yes so true
simply, yes they should be
I never forget that they all grew up in Liverpool, but sometimes I do need to remind myself that they were Brits. I know it sounds odd, but to me, they belonged to the whole world when they were the Beatles.
John Paul and George have Irish ancestry. So I'm pretty sure this song has its roots in ireland. and ringio came from anothier place
Everything about this song (& album) was innovative: the psychedelic vocals, unique bass line and drumming!!!!
Incredible, considering it was recorded in 1966!
if you like this you might like my brothers music. His name is Stu Morris

@@beaupatten9902 yeah, you’re correct; I mistakenly wrote “album”, but it’s the side B of the Paperback Writer single, thx
