Geoff Emerick stated very clearly that George played the lead. It stood out in his memory because he said it was one of the few times that George nailed it right away. This is what Geoff wrote in his book: "[It was] one of the few times that he nailed it right away,” he wrote in his 2006 memoir, Here, There and Everywhere. “His amp was turned up really loud, and he used one of his new fuzz boxes, which made his guitar absolutely scream.” "He" was George.
Yes! Dude, if anyone thinks Lennon and McCartney's voices have the melody in this song, they are wrong. It's the bass that carries the melody! Outstanding playing by Paul.
BrazilianTVHD Pau Said that he often wrote the bass line after the rest of the tune had been worked out. Not sure if that's standard practise, not being a musician myself. He said it allowed hime to get the full range for the bas into each track.
There was to much talent in this band for them to stay together . I can’t adequately put into words how great it was to grow up with The Beatles as the soundtrack of my youth . Good lord how I love The Beatles
everyone here talking about pauls bass and georges guitar but like I never see the ringo appreciation, the opening fill is perfect for the song and so is the rest give my man ringo the attention he deserves!
That's the point. I can only speak from playing in a band as a bassist but when the band are all happy and they are with a killer drummer who lays it all down for the band to walk on. Steve Gadd would have that exactly the same as Ringo even without ever hearing it before - he's another freak. Never wastes a hit yet he has a 50TB larder full of them. I suppose that might upset those who are big on singling out certain players for prominence? nah, I don't get it, it's just four quarters to a pint, equal all the time.
The second verse is the genius of John Lennon encapsulated: “Some kind of innocence is measured out in years; You don’t know what it’s like to listen to your fears” - BRILLIANT!
Lennon was well known for juxtaposing nonsensical terms. See his book 'In his own Write'. Excerpt: "‘I was bored on the 9th Octover 1940 when, I believe, the Nasties were still booming us led by Madalf Heatlump (Who only had one). Anyway they didn’t get me. I attended to varicous schools in Liddypol. And still didn’t pass-much to my Aunties supplies." I'm not sure it qualifies as 'genious' quality. It is goose for a loaf thus.
@HEMAN is a JEDI They all received MBEs in 1965 or 1966, George was the only one who showed any actual public respect for it back then. John sent his MBE back to the Queen in the 70s with a letter that pretty much read, "Kiss my ass!", and Paul got knighted in 1997. George died before he could get anything higher than the MBE, and Ringo's recently gotten his knighthood in something like December 2018.
Sort of like what Elvis did in 1957 when he first recorded and personally played an electric bass "driven" song. But yeh, Paul doing it 6 or7 years later was "revolutionary", whatever that means.
Bass forward? The piano and guitar are much more clearly heard in this. The bass is often just doubling the other lines. You have a strange point of view.

They consider this as garbage not even worth a place on a real album... not even a B Side... And it's a classic song.... with such little treasures . (John Vocals, Paul bassline...etc.). Only the Beatles can afford to let a beauty like this sleep in a an obscur album !!!
That main riff is just a uncadenced instrumental version of the melody and rhythm of the "lonely you can talk to me" lyric, so it would have come naturally from the song. its for paul
tbh, no-one really knows who played the guitar solo.
@@eyeslander true. Not ever clear who really played the break.
Geoff Emerick stated very clearly that George played the lead. It stood out in his memory because he said it was one of the few times that George nailed it right away. This is what Geoff wrote in his book:
"[It was] one of the few times that he nailed it right away,” he wrote in his 2006 memoir, Here, There and Everywhere. “His amp was turned up really loud, and he used one of his new fuzz boxes, which made his guitar absolutely scream.”
"He" was George.

Paul's bass on this was top-notch.
I feel that this was remixed for YT and the bass brought forward. Anyone know?
BrazilianTVHD His bass is just plain nasty on so many of their songs. One of the most underrated bassists ever.
Yes! Dude, if anyone thinks Lennon and McCartney's voices have the melody in this song, they are wrong. It's the bass that carries the melody! Outstanding playing by Paul.
BrazilianTVHD Pau
Said that he often wrote the bass line after the rest of the tune had been worked out. Not sure if that's standard practise, not being a musician myself. He said it allowed hime to get the full range for the bas into each track.
+Kenneth Floyd ~ You got that right sir!
There was to much talent in this band for them to stay together . I can’t adequately put into words how great it was to grow up with The Beatles as the soundtrack of my youth . Good lord how I love The Beatles
When John's voice changes pitch for the You can talk to me line is just heavenly.
The 1 & Only
It’s unreal and amazing and wonderful to hear. What a legend
everyone here talking about pauls bass and georges guitar but like I never see the ringo appreciation, the opening fill is perfect for the song and so is the rest give my man ringo the attention he deserves!
I often tune into just the drums.
@Robert Wilson couldnt have said it better and who better to do it than ringo
@@stephenrenshall8408 they were all equally as amazing, I just find the ringo appreciation not as prevalent :)

The second verse is the genius of John Lennon encapsulated: “Some kind of innocence is measured out in years; You don’t know what it’s like to listen to your fears” - BRILLIANT!
Howard Walton Amen❤️❤️
He really was a poet!
Gab * in Paul’s voice * we ain’t written no poetry
Jotaro Kujo HAHAH
Lennon was well known for juxtaposing nonsensical terms. See his book 'In his own Write'. Excerpt:
"‘I was bored on the 9th Octover 1940 when, I believe, the Nasties were still booming us led by Madalf Heatlump (Who only had one). Anyway they didn’t get me. I attended to varicous schools in Liddypol. And still didn’t pass-much to my Aunties supplies."
I'm not sure it qualifies as 'genious' quality. It is goose for a loaf thus.
The "tone" on Paul's bass is outstanding
Harrison’s solo is utter genius. Totally individual, unpredictable and hooky
Best part of the song no doubt
After the bass lines, then the guitar solo! But first, the song itself. Man I love this song.
...except it's in John's style and I think it's John.
Wes Clark . No , definitely George . Geoff Emerick the engineer said George came up with the solo and nailed it first time
@@BegoneJonah it's more georges style. It might be eligible for a McCartney style, but Lennon doesn't sound to my ears
John's piano, George's guitar, Paul's bass, Ringo's drumming and Sir George Martin's production make this one wicked song.
And Geoff Emerick's engineering! That sound...
and John's ideas and creativity
and John and Paul's harmonies
@HEMAN is a JEDI They all received MBEs in 1965 or 1966, George was the only one who showed any actual public respect for it back then. John sent his MBE back to the Queen in the 70s with a letter that pretty much read, "Kiss my ass!", and Paul got knighted in 1997. George died before he could get anything higher than the MBE, and Ringo's recently gotten his knighthood in something like December 2018.
And John played guitar too, along with George
This is a hidden gem of the Beatles

Still crushing it. Woke up this morning with that bass in my head and had to have a shot of Bulldog. Incredible.
So many Beatles songs have a bass-forward arrangement like this. Paul was truly revolutionary as far as the role of the bass went.
@@stickman1742 Not in terms of volume but being relatively busy note-wise.
@@stickman1742this song could definitely be considered lead bass. The bass is only doubling the guitar for a certain part of the song but it’s doing so much more for most of it.

the whole song!! the riff!!! good bass arragement but is following the great john's chords...
even without bass, this would still a great song by John Lennon
@@carlostejada1479 The bass isn't even very audible. It could be removed and the song would basically sound the same. The bass line often just doubles the main riff or Lennon's vocal melody. I think most of the people on this thread talking about the great bass line don't even know what the bass line in this song is.
@@stickman1742 the bass does not just double the riff or vocal melody. The bass is very distinctive in this song and does a lot of the work. You’re just saying that because you love John but you don’t have to bring Paul’s bass down to do that.
Paul's thing helps keep it syncopated.

+TheMkarr this song was on the yellow submarine album
Yellow Submarine was a sound track of George Martin music. The Beatles did not own that as an album. Capital released "Bulldog" as a single as well. Read, "Lennon,1980, Ray Coleman".
