Jeff Lynne and ELO has been the closest thing to the Beatles since the Beatles broke up, has been one of the most important musicians, songwriters and producers over the past nearly 50 years. He produced albums for Tom Petty, Roy Orbison, Brian Wilson, Del Shannon the ex Beatles as well, for Paul, George and Ringo. He was in the Traveling Wilburys which he formed with George. Dhani Harrison is opening for his 2019 tour. He produced Free As a Bird and Real Love for The Beatles. John Lennon called ELO the Son of the Beatles. George Martin and Jeff Lynne are the two producers who worked their magic with the Beatles and glad Jeff is starting to get the respect he deserves. "We're gonna play Electric Light Orchestra from last year - "Showdown" - which I thought was a great record and I was expecting it to be number one but I don't think UA got their fingers out and pushed it. And it's a nice group. I call them 'son of Beatles' - although they're doing things that we never did, obviously. But I remember the statement they made when they first formed was to carry on where 'The Beatles' left off with "Walrus" - and they certainly did ..." - John Lennon
"Jeff Lynne and ELO has been the closest thing to the Beatles since the Beatles broke up" Based on what body of work? Most people would recognise maybe two songs he wrote. Give me a break. How the hell is he even close to The Beatles? Do you even like music?
@@tejasmohite2651 - I'm aware John Lennon complimented ELO's music. The comment was "Jeff Lynne and ELO has been the closest thing to the Beatles since the Beatles broke up." I'm not attacking ELO and Jeff Lynne and I actually bought a couple of ELO's singles back in 1977. Jeff Lynn and ELO were never that big or important in music, let alone on the level of The Beatles. They didn't even have a No 1 single or album in the UK or USA. Lynne went on to produce albums for a few great artists towards the end of their careers. Fantastic! I'm no knocking the guy. The Beatles comparatively were the most successful band in the world and continue to be so 50 years later. They have outsold every other band and were so popular at the time they coined the term 'Beatlemania.' Their first appearance on U.S. TV was the most-watched TV event after the Moon landing. The Beatles were also massively original, changed popular music forever and still considered the greatest of all time continuing to inspire new artists to this day. They changed, not only popular music forever, but impacted the world arguably more than any artist in any genre in history.

Their love .... .Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for what you have given us and it is the journey to infinity ...
Right! And it was a tribute. Steve Lukather knows you can't change a note in a Beatles song without ruining it. His tribute demonstrates his greatness and George's greatness too.
The Beatles Vocal Harmony However there are excellent improvisations on that one; June Millington playing the solo on the Hey Bulldog cover of the band Fanny.
When The Beatles recorded this, they only overdubbed an additional tambourine and a rhythm guitar track and it sounded huge. There are 12 people on stage playing and it still sounds weak
The moment the riff starts, everyone rocking back and forth, uncluding me...Impossible not to. What a riff, what a drum groove, what a bassline, what a guitar solo...And all for an relatively unknown track which would have been the best single of many bands then and now...That was The Beatles' level.
Jeff Lynne's Electric Light Orchestra from The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame site: "Picking up where the Beatles left off, ELO expanded the concept of great melodies, epic song structures and grand orchestrations. ELO added an exciting mix of elements into rock and roll, including disco rhythms and electronic studio wizardry. Imagine a marriage of tuneful, rocking pop songs with instruments from the symphonic realm, and you’ve got the blueprint for what made ELO one of the most popular groups of the 1970s and beyond. Jeff Lynne, ELO’s vocalist, guitarist, songwriter, co-founder, and frontman, conceived of a rarefied musical sphere in which cellos coexisted with guitars, and where classically tinged progressive rock intersected with hook-filled, radio-friendly pop. The result: ELO’s boundary-breaking approach to rock that resonated with a global audience, both as a pop singles act and as album-oriented rockers with deep-track appeal".

GuitarParts101 TV mixes sound like dick a lot of the time, they ram the shit out of it volume-wise and it just winds up sounding gutless. I'd be willing to bet it probably sounded alright in the room.
GuitarParts101 Exactly what I thought... how can it still sound weak with all that shit playing. The original is just layers of awesomeness... It's really one of my favorites.
Drop it with the double-chin smiley, it's not cute! I'm just saying, if you can drop the nostalgia for a sec, that at least two of the performers here are cool people with their hearts in the right places, and that it's not their fault that TV production can and will make any band sound like cock.

there was a period of time when this was my favorite Beatles song. It is vastly underrated in their catalog but I think it's getting its due more and more.
I don’t think John could copy that solo- As great as he was. If it was anyone other than George playing inside and around the cords... I would suspect Paul. Listen to John’s distinctive soloing style on come together or as third one of the three rotating soloists- He uses a lot of double stops on The End of Abby Road- John’s soling style is the most Earthy, bluesy, and least sophisticated- For a musical genius 🙂
I think that the instrumentals are tidier with a few chords not in the original that work really well. But the vocals?!? There will never be another John Lennon

As soon as these guys started singing, I had get the hell outta here and go and listen to Paul and John singing this. No one can ever hope to duplicate those voices, that energy.
I was curious... He wrote: .. "Jeff Lynne, you are a capo .... I know you will never read my message, but since 'Last Train [to] London' you won this paradise !!!!" ... ... 'capo' is short for capodastro, or 'head of the fretboard'. (Spanish: capodastro, or Italian: capotasto.)
LET ME EXPLAIN " CAPO " HERE AS A SERIOUS short for " CAPORAL " O " OWNER OF RESPECT" .... IF YOU USE THE TRANSLATOR TRANSLATE TO FIND SOME PEOPLE AND NOT SO MORE TECHNICAL . HUG " CAPO " Pete.....jajajaa

Long live Jeff Lynne’s ELO!
"Jeff Lynne and ELO has been the closest thing to the Beatles since the Beatles broke up"
Based on what body of work?
Most people would recognise maybe two songs he wrote. Give me a break. How the hell is he even close to The Beatles? Do you even like music?
@@AnyoneCanSee the great JL had said if Beatles would have continued in 70s they would have sounded like ELO
@@tejasmohite2651 - I'm aware John Lennon complimented ELO's music.
The comment was "Jeff Lynne and ELO has been the closest thing to the Beatles since the Beatles broke up."
I'm not attacking ELO and Jeff Lynne and I actually bought a couple of ELO's singles back in 1977.
Well said Jeff Lynne and John are my 2 heros.

I don't think that they were trying to match the Beatles, just showing them respect!

Guitar solo by the amazing Steve Lukather!
no...he copied georges solo note for note...
Right! And it was a tribute. Steve Lukather knows you can't change a note in a Beatles song without ruining it. His tribute demonstrates his greatness and George's greatness too.
The Beatles Vocal Harmony Your channel is the best!
Il tuo canale è il migliore!
Thank you!
Yup. That's the difference between the good and the great.

John's voice is sooo needed!!!
I think Kurt would sing this better than this cover
both are dead... what a shame
Ya gotta record the lead vocals late at night after drinks.
Your'e right It's not mixed right.
greg best
mix is perfect!!! is not about that
Dave and Jeff NEED to put this to Record there voices are PERFECT and i love this song because of Dave Grohl and Jeff Lynne
Puh-leeez
The moment the riff starts, everyone rocking back and forth, uncluding me...Impossible not to. What a riff, what a drum groove, what a bassline, what a guitar solo...And all for an relatively unknown track which would have been the best single of many bands then and now...That was The Beatles' level.
Jeff Lynn is amazing
Jeff Lynne is awesome. Great music guys, well done. X
Amazing song from the Beatles 1968 and still sounds so good! Jeff Lynne is amazing as usual here.

This really baffles me.. I love this song. Possibly my favourite beatles song. They have FOUR guitars playing, and a whole backing band, yet it still sounds so weak compared to the original? WHAaaaaaaaaaaat
GuitarParts101 TV mixes sound like dick a lot of the time, they ram the shit out of it volume-wise and it just winds up sounding gutless. I'd be willing to bet it probably sounded alright in the room.
GuitarParts101 And besides it seriously lacking in John Lennon..
GuitarParts101 Exactly what I thought... how can it still sound weak with all that shit playing. The original is just layers of awesomeness... It's really one of my favorites.

Drop it with the double-chin smiley, it's not cute! I'm just saying, if you can drop the nostalgia for a sec, that at least two of the performers here are cool people with their hearts in the right places, and that it's not their fault that TV production can and will make any band sound like cock.

my daughter discovered the Beatles as a 6 year old, she had never heard of them till she heard them on the radio, she pestered me for days to buy one of their cd's, she played it constantly for days, you see young kids with their parents and grandparents at Paul McCartney concerts singing all the words to old Beatles songs, the Beatles have been current and inspirational through decades like no other band, they are genuine icons of the music industry.

Jeff Lynne(ELO) is one of the best overall musicians and producers ever.
Jeff Lynne (ELO)...First, he is a very humble man, simply because this Music Genius is not interested in fame, the limelight, and money, he just loves to create great music. JOHN LENNON REALLY WAS THE ULTIMATE SINGER
Long live Jeff Lynne’s Electric Light Orchestra!
there was a period of time when this was my favorite Beatles song. It is vastly underrated in their catalog but I think it's getting its due more and more.
Jeff Lynne , forever Young ... It's not a wish , a reality .
No one can play that solo like Harrison. I swear that not even Hendrix could match that godly sound.
yet many say it was John !
I don’t think John could
copy that solo-
As great as he was.
If it was anyone other than George playing inside and around the cords... I would suspect Paul.
Listen to John’s distinctive
soloing style
on come together
or as third one of the three
rotating soloists- He uses a lot of double stops
on The End of Abby Road-
John’s soling style is the most Earthy, bluesy,
and least sophisticated-
For a musical genius 🙂
