    I've been living in Merida only since last March. I still scream when I spot geckos on my ceiling but the peacefulness can't be beat. I'm staying put.

    We've been to Merida twice now and really love the city. We are Canadian and near retiring and we are planning, after retirement, on spending the winters in warmer climes. Merida will definitely be one of our winter destinations.

      Thanks for watching! I don't blame you for wanting to get away from the Canadian winters. We lived in snowy locations (but not as much as Canada) and fully understand.

    Yes it's hot here in Paradise. Can't have everything. One acclimates after a year or so. Plus the heat keeps the riff raff out! Cheers!

    Awesome recap! Your place was gorgeous and soooo affordable. We visited Mérida in late March/early April in 2019. There was much to enjoy about the city with fun trips to Progreso and Chichén Itzá but overall way too hot. Even that early in the year, we were stuck inside most days from 12-5pm. I got a dental cleaning there too! We did a video about it. 😀

    For retirement, that hot, humid climate is too much for me. While I might tolerate it for short spells, if I’m relocating, I’ll choose a place where the weather is pleasant year round, and there are many good choices there in Mexico.

      Completely agree. The weather is one of the most important factors for us too.

    Oaxaca vs Merida which city do you prefer more for living longterm say 1 year!?. Please explain.

    • @snailtravelers
      @snailtravelers  2 года назад +2

      Wow, that's a tough decision. We like the safety of Merida but prefer the weather of Oaxaca. We could be happy in either city, but if we had to chose one for a long term stay it would probably be Merida. For a short term stay we would probably choose Oaxaca.

      Thanks for watching! Here is a link to the AirBnb apartment. It was a very nice apartment, but the owner's dogs started barking around 5:00 or 6:00 every morning. And one time the owner had maintenance workers come into the apartment without notifying us in advance. Other than these two complaints, it was a nice apartment. www.airbnb.com/rooms/48040156?location=M%C3%A9rida%2C%20Yucat%C3%A1n%2C%20Mexico&federated_search_id=cc7f3168-a062-47ce-ada6-6709492f5168&source_impression_id=p3_1642557764_8ckV0KpGP4HFlTos&guests=1&adults=1

      @snailtravelers  Год назад

      Glad you enjoyed the video! Our health insurance is with IMGlobal. It's an international policy and requires us to be outside of the US for at least 6 months of the year. We have the silver level policy with a $5000 deductable (it's reduced to $2500 for medical expenses outside the US). We just renewed our policy last week; for me (age 51) it cost $1478 for the year, and for my wife (age 49) it cost $1727 for the year. We have never filed a claim so I can't comment on that process. I hope that helps, let me know if you have any other questions.

      @@snailtravelers unrelated....best way to learn the language - apps, online?.etc

    • @snailtravelers
      @snailtravelers  Год назад +1

      Sorry, I don't really have recommendations on a specific program for learning the language. I studied Spanish in high school and college, but going back to high school obviously isn't an option 😀. My wife and I are currently in Turkey, and we're learning (or at least attempting to learn) the Turkish language through RUclips videos. We tried attending some language classes but that wasn't a good fit for us. You could also look into some language apps like Babbel or Duolingo. Sorry I'm not being very helpful.

      Sure, here is the link. We enjoyed this apartment. It's about a 10-15 minute walk to the closest grocery store, and about 5 minutes walk to the bus stop that will take you to the center of town. The owner's dogs are very friendly, but they start barking very early in the morning. Good Question - we pay $204 per month for health insurance for both of us (we use IMGlobal for our health insurance). But our health policy does not cover us for
      Covid in Mexico, so we bought an additional travel insurance policy for $160 per month through a company called Safety Wing. Thanks for watching.
