A deal breaker for me would be if you start placing your rainbow flags and other flags all over your property. We, here in Mérida, don't care whom you are with, just be mindful of others. We don't need to know, nor care what your preferences or anyone's preferences are. Just saying...
Kindness attracts kindness - be honest, don't you find kindness everywhere you go? Because you two seem to be exceptionally kind... so that is what you find! Thank you for being a good example of how US citizens can be so nice....
Thank you guys so much for sharing all that you do! I've been following you for about a year now and you've made me start to seriously consider Mexico, and Merida specifically, as a possible place to start our expat journey.
At the risk of sounding crazy. We are going to meet one day in Merida. My husband and I are going to retire there very soon. When we randomly run into you two, we will thank you in person for sharing this video! Cyber Gracias for now.
Missed you guys on Saturday, but that just made this 1 sweeter😊 your enthusiasm for Merida makes me want to visit and heat be damned lol I love seeing Mexico through your eyes 👀. You both are great embassadors to show the real people and places there with such respect and love.
I absolutely love you guys!!! I’m a Meridana living in Northern CA and your videos just fan the flames for moving back to my beautiful and hot city someday soon! Thank you for embodying kindness! For Yucatecos that’s our vibe so you’re def in the right place!!! Keep them videos coming!
Our place borders Centro in San Sebastien and my con would definitely be sidewalks! You have to really watch where you are walking in older parts of Centro and neighborhoods as sidewalks may be falling apart or people have built up to stop flooding or cut out for a driveway or just gone lol. Definitely need to pay attention when on a walk about.
I am adding comments under my husband’s name because I don’t have a RUclips account. /but I want you to know I love you guys. Your personality is awesome and I love it.
Love this video and the editing!!! Get it y’all!!! Also I’ll be starting my traveling career in 2 weeks by visiting Merida for 5 days. I’m excited!!! Thank you for this information yall ❤
I've been in Merida for 4 months and I was in Guadalajara and Mexico city for a week and within a day or two I made up my mind about relocating to Guadalajara. It has an energy that Merida doesn't have. There is more to do and the Colonia I was staying in had parks everywhere. I find the expat community in Merida to be very guarded and unfriendly meanwhile in Guadalajara I feel like I would have more of a social/dating life. The food in Merida is hit or miss... usually a miss. The food in Guadalajara and Mexico city is like a flavor explosion 💥. I agree the locals in Merida are super friendly but I'll pass on the expat community
Hands down Gudalajara, the city that gave Mexico the icons that represent the country internationally, the cradle of mariachi music, tequila, the hat dancd (Jarabe Tapatio). wonderful climate, a good Mixture of Colonial and modern, some beautuful residential areas, beautiful shoping centers, the most importan book fair in the Spanish world, first world medical care, universities, close proximity to mountain and beach destinitaions ... and the list continues...
Nice. I saw you comment on a post of mine on Cartess' site. Had you hever considered moving to Queretaro? I'd love to see more content from folks who started of in the easy-to-land city of Merida, then moved to places like Guadalajara, Queretaro or Monterrey
I owned a home in Merida for a number of years…I found the locals to be absolutely lovely. The expats on the other hand were something else. One of the reasons I decide to sell.
Another great video...I love Merida but I agree, the heat!!!! My parents would go every March and that was "doable" but I tried my luck in late August early September....holy "!·$%" LOL!!!!
I remember one of the first videos of pros and cons; the heat and plumbing/toilet situation convinced me you are two brave souls. I live in Texas and the humidity is brutal. I'd have to cut off all my hair to live in the Yucatan. I so appreciate that you love it. This channel is one of my absolute favorites. Where to next?
Thank you gentlemen! My partner and I are planning a trip to Merida (2 weeks to month) next year and this video was very helpful. All my best to you two.
I love your blogs info about living in Merida, but I prefer La Playa, I’m a beach person so PV would be my choice, because I can spend 3 months there and return to San Diego for the balance of the year. So what about getting citizenship or residency card, what do you need to live/move to Merida, Mexico.
Merida sounds like it would be a great place to live from the information that you're giving it's like sparking a lot of curiosity within me. I live by myself now here in Connecticut and I am in my sixties currently on a fixed income but Merida sounds like the type of place I would like to be able to get away to and it seems as though I could afford it. It seems to be more of a relaxing place other than the US I personally have grown tired of the US. Thank you for the information that you have shared it is greatly appreciated
Ok that was great pointers, now, who do you usually fly with ,what airline, how do you like it, is it usually on time, is luggage extra and seat selection ? Maybe you can do a vlog on that? Thanks again, you two are great 🥰
Sounds like you both live in Progresso the Beautiful beach town, that is a different town though that is 30min away on a bus that drops you off in Centro. Great video!
We returned from a visit to Merida earlier this week. And yes it is hot and humid, but not as bad as some areas of southern US. We loved it and in spite of it getting even hotter in summer, we plan on early retirement there in less than a year. Thanks for your videos!
That was great...and spot on! I am the polar opposite of a city dweller, but if the stars somehow misaligned and I had to be, Merida would be a great option. It feels small, it's clean, it's beautiful and it's most definitely comfortable. I live out in the boonies somewhat near Merida, which gives me about 4 or 5 degrees C relief during the hot months. So what's a Con on your list, is kinda neutral for me 😊
Good to know. We were just there, and 92F with a facemask on in February was a challenge. I can't imagine hotter and more humid. It definitely showed us how we might need to modify the times and durations of our visits. I am a mountain person, so heading up to Queretaro, Guanajuato and Tequisquipan was my kind of weather. We brought all sorts of Yucatan spices home to make our own pibils!
Thank you for this! Needed a better point of view. There was another guy complaining about mosquitos and mowing grass :/ Much appreciated. And shout out to you for being positive.
I found the buses to be a very affordable way to get around Merida. I lived south of Centro and took the bus out to Costco in the north, then would catch a cab or Uber home. Easy peezy, and a real delight to experience some street performers who would catch a ride on the bus to make a few pesos. Many are actually quite good. 👏👏👏
Great video and information! You mention the cost of living. Maybe you'll consider doing an updated video on the cost of living currently in Merida? Gracias!!
Just discovered your RUclips channel. Very honest, informative material presented so graciously. Being a vegan, I really like your food recommendations. 😊
My boyfriend and I have been watching your videos the past few months and we're here in Merida for the month of March and you guys have been so helpful!!! We're vegetarian so definitely going to try Crush tomorrow when it opens! What else should we try thats a MUST?! Hope to run into you two out of a million! Much love, guys!!!
Ah welcome! We loved the pizza at Monique's (www.happycow.net/reviews/moniques-bakery-and-cafe-de-alta-nutricion-merida-194325) as well as pretty much everything at ChangoMango (instagram.com/changomango_/?hl=en) both of which aren't in Centro but worth the Ubers. There's also great vegan tacos at Taqueria de la Union (facebook.com/TaqueriaDeLaUnionMid/) and falafels at Pita (facebook.com/PitaMediterraneanMerida/). Hope you guys have a wonderful trip!!
First - I LOVE your name! Second - good info about Merida! We are probably going to make Merida our initial landing spot next year when we are ready to finish up our residency at the INM. Every native we have met says the same about the heat, but there seems to be so much that Merida offers. I can't wait to dig into the rest of your vlogs! :-)
I would come to Merida just to see you two; my next place will be Mazatlan in five years to stay forever. I'm living now in Portland, Oregon to be near my grandchildren after living four wonderful years in Mexico (CDMX and Cuernavaca). Any idea where you'll be October 28- November 18? I'm coming for Dia de los Muertos in Mexico City, Isla Mujeres to go to the beach with my dearest Mexican friend Claudia and a few nights in Mazatlan.
Another good video and useful for people thinking of living there. All your Merida videos combined would be a perfect guide and resource for anyone heading this way.Last Saturday I missed you. Wondeed any not video But then I just heard David say we make videos every Thursday.. So que pass en la casa? Si o no van a darnos nuevos video los sabados? .Hasta la proxima.
HOTTTTT...and you forgot to add humid! Sadly, but definitely a deal breaker for me. You guys seem to be accepting it and thriving there, in spite of it. People have differing constitutions. Me- I wither and am depleted at 80 degrees, and hate being A/C trapped indoors, so...😣...that con is the conniest , sad to say as, otherwise, Merida rocks!
You can stay in Mexico for up to 90 days on a tourist visa, but if you're planning to stay longer you can apply for a temporary residency visa, which is a pretty straight forward process!
The Yucatán capital is seriously beautiful, steeped in history, and super steamy - all year round. Mérida may not be one of Mexico's better-known destinations, but it could be one of its best: with its beautiful architecture, storied past, and delicious food, the Yucatán capital is a must-see.
I def blame you for the price hike. 🤣 April makes 1 year here for us as a family, and I will say YOU NEED A CAR HERE!!!!! There are buses. The new bus Va-Y-Ven is supposedly amazing too. Def need to speak Spanish if you’re going to come here as well. The people of the Yucatan are so amazing. Very kind! Agree with you my handsome neighbors.
LOL...I lived in Los Angeles for many years, without a car, so I am sure one does not "have to" have a car in Merida...and David and Travis are proof of that. Although I doubt they would be car-less in L.A.
@@rebeccar4312 that’s great! Really, and you def CAN especially if it’s just you, but I can tell you for a fact (because I’ve lived here for a year) that the Ubers here are not always reliable. They cancel on you when it rains, and it sucks waiting in the boiling heat. I’m also their neighbor and live right next door. So, we experience alot of the same situations in regards to travel here in and around Merida. L.A. isn’t Merida. VERY different. Very. Even with travel. I also speak fluent Spanish, and it was explained to me, that most Ubers won’t come when it rains. Delivery’s for food stop as well. Very, very much, not like L.A. you “need to” have a car here in order to really enjoy life here to the fullest. Thanks for responding Rebecca.
In your opinion could a stand up electric scooter or an electric bike be a transportation option in Merida? If so are they available to be purchased in MX or one could import them yes?
Not sure on that one! Check Amazon.com.mx or MercadoLibre to see if they're sold here - we haven't seen any on the streets (buuut we also haven't been looking so 🤷♂️)
Mexico has 'everything'! But I love hot weather. So for retired people like, who like beaches, how would you compare Puerto Vallarta Vs Merida? So speaking of ‘vegans’ I love the ‘vegan’ white leather seats in my Tesla Model 3.
Good insights, thanks! Heat is an issue but combined with humidity its brutal. I lived in Las Vegas for a few years and smarties would say oh yeah it's hot.. but its a dry heat!..umm so is a hair dyer and an oven lol. My highest temp living there was 121 f. I asked someone once if their place was walking distance to the beach and they said well yes if you have enough time and energy LOL
I used to own a home in Laughlin NV years ago and there were times I would drive from Long Beach to Laughlin. I would arrive at midnight and the temperature was still 103⁰ and the next day it would hit 130⁰. I've never felt heat like that in my life and it didn't matter that the relative humidity was 8%.
I'm bummed that you weren't around when we were there. It would have been great to meet you. We had four days in Centro, Four Days in progreso, and Four days up north around the Montealban neighborhood (Chedraui Selecto was amazing). Everything was great, and still only about 35-40% of what we find in the US.
Again, we love Merida so much that we struggled coming up with cons. Are any of these deal breakers for you?
My only con would be the heat.
Oh me too!! The heat would kill me lol I grew up in San Francisco CA and 68 degrees was a heatwave.
Definitely the heat, but Merida would be a good place for a winter home for those who live in cooler climates like Mexico City.
Heat and mosquitoes
A deal breaker for me would be if you start placing your rainbow flags and other flags all over your property. We, here in Mérida, don't care whom you are with, just be mindful of others. We don't need to know, nor care what your preferences or anyone's preferences are. Just saying...

Ah yes - reviewing airlines is on our list!
Yeah, I second that-would appreciate hearing more of the logistics of your travels!
Wait till I get there, you’ll see a thunder of energy rushing through the streets of Merida, off I goooooo!! 🕺🏻

It's much hotter with worse humidity than everywhere in the South, by far. The hottest season is the Spring.

As any other city, when people started moving to a new city the basic cost and effect, we make the prices go up , because of the high demand
Thank you for your video. Are the roads safe for travel to the neighboring cities such as Progresso or a little further such as Campeche?
Love you guys! The wife and I cannot wait to meet the both of you!! 🥰🥰🥰
Another great one you guys. Very objective and helpful I believe for anyone considering moving here.
Love you guys and your videos!! We'll be visiting Merida soon so thanks for all the great content. :)
Hi! Thanks for this video!!
Regarding having a car, what would be the cheapest option for 6 months? Is that really not feasible?
Cheers 😊
That was great...and spot on! I am the polar opposite of a city dweller, but if the stars somehow misaligned and I had to be, Merida would be a great option. So what's a Con on your list, is kinda neutral for me 😊
Good to know.

My friend and I have been visiting Merida for three days now and love it. There’s so much to see and do and amazing restaurants and cafes.
So glad you’re enjoying yourselves!

I asked someone once if their place was walking distance to the beach and they said well yes if you have enough time and energy LOL
Haha 121 is insaaaaane 🥵
Do you have a/c in your place, and do you use it a lot? And how much does it cost?
I believe they touch on that in their budgeting video.
We and and we do! Ours isn't as expensive as other's, but electricity can be very expensive here!
