Steve Ditko was the original artist and co-creator of Spider-Man and over the years we have gotten an number of action figures that are based on his style for the wall crawler. But did Mezco just top them all with their silver age spiderman in their 1:12 Collector line of toys? I take a deep dive in to Spider-Man's history - looking at the iconic first Amazing Spider-Man Annual for inspiration to determine if this is the best, most accurate Steve Ditko Spidey ever made.

Having him mimic the panels was a fantastic way of showing off the positives and shortcomings of the figure while doubling over as a historical overview of Ditko-era Spidey.

Ditko's Spidey will always be one of if not my favorite look for the character, and this figure is such a good portrayal of it

Ditko's art of Spidey is some of my favourite, he goes from a scrawny creepy looking spider-themed "hero" into eventually a proper built super hero which even sort of represents his arc during that era.
This figure is sick. It’s cool that they released a goblin to go along with it. Hope they do more villains!

Definitely the most Ditko-esque Spider-Man figure to date. Almost jumps right off the panel. Best review I've seen of it so far as well. Love the way it was also a review of ASM Annual #1. Very entertaining and informative.

This figure is so clean. Ditko’s Spider-Man has always been one of my favorites. Webbed wings would’ve been cool too, I always like that about spiderman. Great figure 10/10
I don't get why they didn't take advantage of having a cloth suit and do the webwings.

the ditko style has such a softspot so me that seeing it brought to life is such a treat honestly, not a single modern suit has managed to top it for me (ok, maybe the ITSV one but that's it)

I love this spidey but i dont think it would fit with my current display but i think for my modern display im going to get the mafex and maybe a custom head but i am definitely getting the new mezco green goblin that figure looks amazing and i cant wait to get him good luck for the giveaway everyone

I've been dreaming of a Ditko accurate figure of Spidey for a long, long time and this just about ticks all the boxes. However something you pointed out is a big negative to me. The underarm webs, maaaan!
But I'm thinking, I still want one, and I'll give myself a personal project of making some custom underarm webs for the guy! That's what I'm gonna do!

As a more newer reader of Spider-Man. Reading the Ditko era of Spider-Man has to be one of my favorite comics runs I’ve read in awhile. As for this figure now reading the comic run that the figure is based on, I’d argue he’s probably the best Ditko spidey figure around

That figure is a masterpiece I love Steve Ditko’s Spider-Man style as much as Todd McFarlane’s
This is such a great figure the only thing missing are the web wings he definitely could’ve used more ab crunch but wow it’s beautiful. Now I’m torn between this one and the Captain America figure that’s coming. I already had to pass on the Thor. The hobby dollars don’t stretch like they use to. ❤the video as always keep at it true believer. Nuff said
That annual always brings back so many memories. In elementary school there was a collection reprint 60’s Spidey comics in the library. I used to love checking the annual out just for the character art pages.
Coming from Romita/Ross guy. This figure is a true piece of art, and Stirdy Steve would've been impressed!
I fell out of love with mezco for a while due to their increasingly high prices and the customer service, but this figure is impossible to ignore.. Match it up with Goblin and it becomes a very special duo. Give props where it's deserved. Mezco have done well with these. Nice Review.

Steve ditko was the greatest artist of all time. I still remember on how sad I was when I heard about his death but he did give us a good example on how spiderman should actually be adapted

K'know, im not the biggest fan of Steve Ditko's spidey, but I can say this is absolutley the best version of his spidey we've gotten in figure form, and that green goblin figure? wow, would love to see that in an actuon figure review! The Ditko era definitely deserves more adaptations and credit for Spidey's history, i hope the next show can lean into that classic era more.

this figure is amazing I've been wanting it since it was announced, but sadly I'm in high school with no job so no way to pay for it. I am a huge fan of spiderman since watching the animated series growing up. I am a striving comic artist I've been replicating spiderman art by Ditko and McFarlane for a while and now i am making a spiderman comic series of my own loosely based on the original amazing spiderman comics. if i could get this figure that would be a dream come true i have an idea on customizing it by making web wings using some white mesh and a black webbed kind of mesh. if you see this comment please consider sending me the figure. love your work man, have a great day

This figure is so awesome. It has real type clothing, my favorite plus it is one of my favorite classic spidey suits so it’s awesome seeing someone review it. I would love to have this figure but I’m too lazy to find it, plus I’m broke😂

giveaway aside (even tho I would love that figure) I still think ditkos art still absolutely holds up even after so much time there’s such a charm about his art that i think no one else has captured since especially in books like if this be my destiny that book has some of my favorite artwork ever published in a comic period

This was THE review of this I was waiting for! This is the best Ditko classic Spidey period. I got him and Mezco Doom. They are both stellar offerings. This Spidey is above both my classic Mafex Spidey and Retro Carded Spidey. So much goodness. Love this channel!

That Spidey does look dope. I too have the Marvel Legends AF Spidey, and it is one of my favorites. I didn't know all the detailed history, so this was an awesome review. My favorite part was the artwork you shared and the pages from the comics. I grew up on the Spiderman 90's cartoons, then later picked up comics. So this was fun to learn and watch. Also, I agree; that the web wings would have been an awesome touch. But with everything they seem to offer it looks like it could be worth it.

Steve Ditko maybe one of my favorite spider man artist of all time and hey he and jack Kirby changed comic art forever so without Ditko and jack comics could have been a fosod so thank you Jack and Steve for making beautiful art

I've always been a sucker for these classic designs, pair that with mezco (aka my favorite toy company) and this might just be my favorite spidey figure. Hopefully I can pick him up eventually.

I do wish they had a John Romita Sr unmasked head, that's the only thing I dislike about this figure.

Great review as always, for my money there's no one else on the market who reviews Spider-Man action figures with this level of laser-focused accuracy on the original comics. I've been reading through the original Lee and Ditko run of Spider-man and after getting mezco's Super-man and seeing this video I might just have to pick this one up as well.

Mezco’s first comic Spider-Man was not a very good figure. This one is much better. Their recent Green Goblin is even better.
