This was the The Moment. The trends of the entire 90s toy industry coalescing into a singular form. ToyBiz beginning to experiment with super articulation in the Spider-Man TAS line by using GI Joe style O-ring ball joints, McFarlane toys emphasizing artist accuracy with sculpt and paint, the proliferation of higher end super articulated doll figures like Medicom’s Real Action Heroes. It all was leading to 2000. Literally, at the dawn of a new millennium, Spider-Man Classics was the future.
@@CarbonScoring couldn’t agree more! Hang them in the Louvre!!!! Star Wars, Marvel, Transformers, and GI Joe would greatly benefit from bringing back well done bases! Also, love your vids. I just dug these figures out of storage. It has been a very long time since I have looked at them. They are even more beautiful now that I am older and can appreciate the work on them more. Thanks for the video!
looks mark bagley to me, very early mark bagley did spider-man eyes like that, you can see it in the cover with darkwing and i think the punisher crossover. its the version capcom chose for their game, and everyone knows their spidey is bagley. you can always tell a figure is inspired on mark spidey by the two notches on the lenses, only bagley does the notch on top and in the inner side of the lenses near the nose. im more amazed at the level of shading
You never see stuff like this anymore. With Classics, it felt much more like these characters were real people in your toy box. And with the inclusion of a stand and a comic book? They really showed that they care for these characters and the product. If it were to continue, I’d really like to see Doc Ock, Green Goblin, Peter Parker himself, Carnage, and maybe even the Human Torch
Carbon you don't know how much this video means to me, the spidey classics line is what i grew up with and were the figures that ignited my love for action figures, it's amazing how these figures still hold up well over 20 years later, that's incredible. Carbon this is one of your best videos ever the amount of work and passion that went into this is amazing!

But he always dropped nuggets of action figure or comic book wisdom throughout the years.
having grown up with spidey through the late 70s and 80s, there was never a toy to accurately portray the wall crawler, when the classics came out it was a game changer!! Could not have been more excited when i found these in store
The one figure in this line that is my personal hands down favorite is the Kraven figure. He legit looks like he walked right out of the pages of Kravens last hunt and is an incredible likeness to Mike Zecks artwork in that series.
I have most of these. I didn't follow the collection scene back then I just bought them because I liked figures. So cool to find out why and how they got made.
Well this a coincidence.I just bought the the basic Spider-man from wave 1 a week ago and i just got it in the mail. It's figure i always wanted as a kid.I'm happy to have it in my collection.
I am proud to say I bought the entire line as it came out and I still have them all MIP. I had no idea at the time they were kicking off a huge change in the action figure industry, I just thought they looked badass.
Man Carbon 😭 you made me pull out my Spider-Man Classic figures out of the old drawer with this one. Truly the genesis of all that we have today. This was a wonderful love letter to the Classics line! 🫡👏🏿
I had a Spider-Man figure back in the day that used mostly the same moulds as this aside from the head and feet. I believe the head was modeled to look more like the mtv Spider-Man, and the feat were bulkier to accommodate magnets in the sole so you could attach him to the brick facade he came with. Still one of my all time favorites
As a kid, I wanted that second wave sooooo badly... we only had bootlegs of it available, most of them scaled down to 5" and lacking most of the articulation, but still with impressive paint apps AND the display stands (though for some figures, they were underscaled - you could find the Battle-Ravaged Spider-Man with a properly scaled Lizard or one that was as tiny as Spidey's foot.). My grandma got me Rhino (and my best friend got Daredevil) and man, did those figures see playtime (still have both, as my friend actually gave me DD when he left action figures behind). Funnily enough, I always thought that Lizard looked familiar... and that's because it was a reused sculpt from the Spider-Man: Web Force toyline from a few years earlier.
Awesome video! I enjoyed watching it while admiring my own Spider-Man Classics Series 1 set! I was 6 when my parents got me the Spidey figure. This was the figure that got me started liking and collecting Spider-Man toys. Quite surreal that this first Spidey toy that I had was the start of modern action figures as well. I do like to note that the Asia release used posters instead of comics which was what I got in the Philippines. Still cool though!
Just found your videos a few days ago and I just wanted to say I appreciate how passionate you are about all this. Subscribed! Just started getting figures. My wallet is not happy!
I had the 2099 and Daredevil ones but I didn’t love their articulation. They could never pose normally. But I had an earlier Spider-man fig which I LOVED the articulation.
Great Video. Falcon is amazing. I do wish that Venom was more articulated and they would go at another attempt at Venom like that. Old Spawn figures were 5 inch as well.
Anytime someone says McFarlane Toys is a bad company that makes bad figured I'm gonna point them to this video. I still really like his DC Multiverse figures This is a great video. I never knew how incredible the Spider-Man classics line was or how influential it was on what we have now.

They did all these animated spidermen. But never did a updated legends of technically the first marvel legends figures spidey. Big eyes and beautiful blue. Hoping we get one in the colors of the toybiz marvel vs capcom spidey figure
@CarbonScoring yep. Theres a few we need. Battle damage and all. Already got updated retro card cyborg spidey which was stolen from me i have to rebuild. But there's plenty more. I think we may even see the dare devil and man spider retro if they did a homage to the first waves of these ones. I'm all for it all.

I know majority of people say that this is a McFarlane style figure but I always saw it as a Sal Buscema Spidey.
