For anyone who doesn't want to travel to the AX frontlines (or just can't), you can also check for Restoration missions near you, and take note of which settlements are being targeted by these missions. These settlements will be offline and are up for grabs as the rest of the tutorial. If you grab the Restore mission, you might get scavengers, which defeats the "no combat" and the scavengers won't just quit (different from jumping out and back on when not on a mission), so keep that in mind. Usually systems in Bust and/or Infrastructure Failure are more prone to having abandoned settlements, but it isn't so cut and dry (but traveling around is half the fun anyways). Also, yes, U16 got this lighting bug (also ran into it on this specific power building and settlement layout combo too earlier today). The optimization will get us a few bugs, but the performance is getting better with almost every update. Awesome job as always, Buur!
if when you go looting you find the welcoming committee, you can use the missile launcher and blow them up without even landing. Once you've cleaned up, you get to work.
Thank you, just the tip I needed. One important info: I was just done with looting and went to the PWR centre for my power regulator when suddenly the power went OUT! And the regulator was gone! And then the scavengers dropped in and started shooting immediately. I escaped, even though I had some strange lagging problems with the scarab's throttle. But this is important: If scavengers drop in, they will steal your power regulator! So keep a spare one in your hold.
After doing quite a few of these, wouldn't it be easier to take an ax settlement reactivation mission from an active station/base in the system? That way you usually get the regulator and the level 3 authorization to get access to everything, plus the mats reward. You just need to disable the alarms in order to collect any illegal downloads.
For anyone having trouble finding the missions for the power regulators, they will show up when the system/factions state is infrastructure failure or bust. Like he said in the video, Take the mission "turn on power to the settlement" or similarly named, make sure they provide you with a power regulator then abandon the mission. You will get a 100k fine that you can pay off as well as a little decrease to rep.

If you check the mission boards for restoration missions, a lot of times, you can get several on the same planet and many have material rewards. You get level 3 access and a power regulator which saves quite a bit of time hunting around for access and no alarms, etc to worry about. Can save quite a bit of time if you stay in the srv and just target the enemies in turret mode from a safe distance. Fish in a barrel just remeber to keep moving. I've found dividing all pips between systems and weapons to be best unless I need to escape. Only killed twice doing it this way. Since in the srv (bring at least one spare) you spawn close by where you got in trouble instead of having to jump back in from another system.
I must be doing something wrong. Tried to get to a settlement and was interdicted and destroyed by Thargoids. Shrugged and tried again. Same result. Not all that familiar with the routing on the Galactic map as this is only my second week of really playing. (Obsessively) I will look for some sort of routing around contested systems, I just haven't gotten around to it yet. Oh and the tip about supercruise and empty lockers explained a lot. I've had several settlements be completely empty when I went through a restore mission. After reading the comments I realized I'd reloaded after a confrontation with scavengers went badly without actually leaving the settlement. Thanks for the tutorials!
Great vid, much appreciated. Just started to work on suit/weapon upgrades. Have already cleaned out a few settlements. On one of the settlements, pirate soldiers dropped in as I was leaving, and on another I had to fight off three waves of pirate soldiers. It's a real shame they didn't implement full VR for first person space legs, these settlements would feel so much more real.
If the settlement is small, like two buildings, I don't get scavengers show up. If it's larger than that, scavengers will show up once I disable the power at the end. I stow my SRV before that and when I power down, I hit the suit shield and motor back to the ship, then engage my ship's missile launcher and kill them all.
"A couple of rounds..." IF you have top gear.... first few level weapons a whole clip in the face isn't enough. Also seems there is no "Head-shot Multiplier" as listed in the specs. Pros aim at the center it seems
It's the perfect illumination, it has been an issue since the alpha. Closing the ticket on the issue tracker regarding the illumination was not the right decision by frontier. This bright and dark issues is common, unfortunately.
I have been gathering mats in both these 'recovery system settlements ' and going to reactivation settlements - without taking the mission , and I have found that at both of these types of site if you loiter for too long then drop ships will arrive and deposit some mercs / scavengers for you to play with :)
Check status of target settlements before picking up ax reboot missions for lv3 clearance and rare mats. When the progress of recovery passes a certain point most of the reboot missions will lead to powered settlements which means 100k fine for a power regulator.
remember that a extra back pack is very handy, or park the srv close to unload and restock e breach, also the settlement type will determine the data collected, overall it is like a normal reset mission, but good info
Just curious if this is still valid. I've only tried one so far, however once going through the steps to get powered up etc I found that every single compartment was empty. I didn't find any materials in anything. Maybe dumb luck. I may try another settlement in the system.
Just tried this - I realize there are only about a dozen systems in recovery, so I just picket the second system on the list. Picked the closest Extraction settlement, drove up to the power building, got out, and 2 DBX's popped in and dropped a dozen bad guys. SRV got stuck on a lamp post, and I got blowed up. LOL
great video, I cant wait until they complete the suit upgrade loop by giving us something to do in them, I like High CZ's on foot but I really need some Thargoid blasting!!!
I tend to usually push the settlement in an SRV and call ship back if I need it. It really feels like a much safer option. '

sorry but i dont get it. i have found power regulatirs then i go to a recoverty systen. then EVERYWHERE i land that is disabled i find out areas with no doors, no power building. all i find is disbled areas with a data node and nothing else. please explain where those bases with Power building are... i keep going from disabled area to disabled area and they dont have the buildings in your video
Is this info still valid? Tried four sites (as-per the video) and each time, all the lockers etc are empty. There's nothing to loot, except the odd grenade box...
Thanks for the great video, exactly what I was looking for. You actually make me boot up the game after a break of a few weeks. Although my Cmdr is out in the black, I'll give this a try tonight with my Alt just for practice. Edit: Did my first run and went okay except, of course, I did forget to remove the Power Regulator afterwards 😅 Have to get another one.
There is a new filter for Features. What should this be set to? And I am assuming since we just rolled the clock that more settlements will be in progress completion as the week moves on? There are only a couple right now.
So if you have never been anywhere on foot before are there things you need to collect first? I have one each of the suits with one at level 2 and whatever ship I like. You mention torches, power regulator, E breaches etc. How do I get these before going? What equipment list would you suggest?
Does this still work? I gave it a go tonight and while I was looting the other side of the settlement a security team dropped in and blew my SRV and ship up.
Just trying tomget into Odyssey. Landed on Laumas1, Industrial settlement. Couldnt find alarms panel, all lockers seen empty. Had a network disconnect-ship left at planet, I returned to las port of call, couldnt see a way to recall ship or get a shuttle to Laumas no accessible landing points). 🤔
Have visited 3 different sites from multiple systems each with over 1 week remaining in the appropriate states and all zero loot. Can anyone please confirm if this is still a thing or if there is some additional pertinent information for sourcing systems/settlements?
Yup, no loot for me. Sad. I feel these "scavengers" are severely overturned. Please give me only 1-3 scavengers in starting gear. I'm always up against 10-20 in upgraded gear and it's always, ALWAYS plasma weapons which 2 shot me.
I've been trying this for a few days now, and every single time I get to a settlement, there's either scavengers there, or they show up while I'm inside. And I'm getting absolutely wasted every single time before I can even kill a single bad guy.
Is this dependant on settlement type as I went to two settlements that were less than 10% complete but there wasn’t a single item to loot in any locker just a couple of ammo boxes and some med packs ?
All my suits and weapons are grade 5 with full engineering. I found it faster to gather the stuff needed to unlock the Colonia engineers then travel out there to get the engineering done. I wasted 7 months trying to unlock all the bubble engineers and I discovered I needed 1 item that's nearly impossible to get without doing illegal activity.
Never thought of doing it this way, great shout. The next ship review I work on might end up having a lot of ground based ship footage now, as I really need to get my mats up, so might as well kill two birds with one stone 👍. Thanks and o7
It would be nice to get some equipment of the scavenger's if they had any enhancements or loot on them. When there is space to do so I aim my SRV at them and run them down, as I am needing the upgrades for my suits.
I realize I'm a bit late to the party, seeing as this video is a year old and I'm just now getting into on foot content, is there any place for suit materials like Dav's Hope is for ship materials? I ask because the types of settlements referenced in the above video probably won't be around much longer. Also, it points out in the tutorial for on foot content in the game that the power regulator from a scarab srv will re-power a settlement reactor. I tried taking one from a settlement for use in the next one, and it disappeared from my inventory as soon as I left. Honestly, is there any reason upgrading and engineering your suit and weapons is so much more time consuming and annoying than doing the same for your ship?
A great video from my point of view. However there is one major issue for me. All lockers/crates I found were empty. I tried 3 different locations (I think there were: Hou Biological Centre, Chen Biochemical Centre, Ponce Excavation Platform) in 2 different systems currently in Recovery (HIP 19781 and HIP 20741) with more than 1 week to go. So my question is, did I do something wrong or is this patched?
I did this like 5 times now and had enemies 3 times of it, once they where already there so I missiled them from my ship, and all 3 times they arrived almost immediately after I turned power off again and were already shooting my ship when I ran to it. So, best have a lot of shields. It's really dumb they shoot at empty ships/srvs
Dont if its a new addition, but this is the first day after the patch. Each settlement I go too has resistance, one didnt have initially but while i was in, they spawned and took out my srv and almost my ship /sigh. Not certain of the advantage of traveling to find these in recovery settlement if they have just as much resistance as any normal settlement. Perhaps it was changed after the update, perhaps just blind luck. But I've tried 4 and 4 all have resistance at least for my adventure. Im coming back after 2 years to see if my over priced purchase of all the ED updates was worth anything.. Sadly looking like same ol jump 500 times/loading screens, everything is OP versus you (esp if you are new). The engineering garbage truck is still in full disenjoyment within the game. Mmm losing interest at day 1. Back to X4: Foundations, Star Citizen, and some indie survival titles I guess until Ashes of Creation.
Attempted Settlement reset twice. I do not think it works like that any longer. Both times the Power station can be hacked and powered. The only problem is. NO LOOT! The loot does not respawn. 😔
I found something weird in later gameplay. The first place had a combat zone. The next place didn't. When I did the reset attempt just trying to see. I let my ship travel in super cruise mode for about 3 to 4 seconds instead of immediately shutting it down. It WORKED. The settlement reset and all the loot was different. I think the 'combat zone' had something to do with the reset glitch I experienced. I have not found another place with a combat zone to retry this theory. Just want to clarify the situation I was having and what happened after I posted this comment. Seems it could have to do with the status of the compound, possibly, maybe. Need to verify it before I am sure though. 👍🤔
I recently watched this video and thought I'd give it a shot however the settlements I've tried it on have no loot. No containers, lockers already open, no data etc... Is this not longer something that can be done, or have I just been unlucky?
Just tried this today. No nightvision yet, so I went in there nearly blind at night. Messages of AX Pilots, nothing special, so I thought, it was no one there. Then my SRV got destroyed and before I reached the exit of the building I was in my ship got destroyed. Took all these guys with me at least. Don't know where they came from. AX Pilots. Dammit! What are you meant to do, when your ship got destroyed? Is there anything you could do? Will try again tomorrow 😅
If your ship gets destroyed on foot get 400 or 500 meters away from the settlement then hold Q to bring up the suit menu then go through it and call in an Apex shuttle to go back to a station.
I just completed my first, loaded the mats into the Scorpion, climbed in, and I was ambushed...dead before I could deply the turret! Must have been a dozen of them...
Temporarily or it stays at 20? I have a 4 years old RTX2070 and I have no problems with setting the graphics to Ultra... have you tried turning the graphics down a bit or you're just running elite on a potato computer? :(
It's temporarily, specially when there are a lot of NPC's or drones arround me. My one and only gaming "machine" is the Steam Deck =) No issues for exploring only settlements seems not working for me.
I always dismiss the ship after disembarking in the SRV. Just to be safe - a few times I have missed the tiny on screen notification that my ship has come under attack from arriving pirates.
This works great. However, take care when you travel to the system that you do not jump into thargoid systems and almost get destroyed...😂 Also, i noticed that scavengers come after I power down the base and take back by power regulator. Its actually quite annoying 😂.
The literal easiest way I have found to take dudes out in a settlement is with a class 2 or 3 dumb fire missile on a vulture so you can get super close. Alternatively, you could put a laser on the other side if you want to practice your aiming 😉

I’d love to specifically farm power regulators without destroying my rep, racking up fines, or killing a bunch of people to do it. I’d put in a buy order on my carrier if anyone paid attention to those.
specifically on foot salvage missions that make you go to a distress beacon will have a ship that you can cut a panel and take a power regulator for free. no one there to witness the crime and it does not retain an illegal tag. i did this to get 7. typically just 1 per distress beacon ship

Thanks for the video. Tips to enhance looting er…. collecting materials is always helpful. My weapons of choice are the intimidator and tormentor.
"You do know, but you never know" about sums up my view too: why not be prepared? 😁
Great video!
.... And there might be facehuggers.
Thank you so immensely for this.
Might have to try this, thanx again for your great tips and awesome content.
Does this still work? I've been trying this method out and everything at the settlement is empty.
Same here me thinks its nerfed. 😏
@wethepeople3670 I did a little snooping and apparently it's a bug that just popped up with ascendancy. Hopefully it's sorted in a couple of weeks.
@@smaggegi Nice, thanks for sharing! I, just imagine, ran into this as well. First time I tried it, so maybe I'll get lucky with the next settlement.
This is great. Just what I’ve been looking for.
Great work as always, Sir! o7
Super handy info, and great find. Thank you.
Excellet video. Now to try putting it into practice.
LOL
That is good to know. Thanks.
great video, I cant wait until they complete the suit upgrade loop by giving us something to do in them, I like High CZ's on foot but I really need some Thargoid blasting!!!
Really helpful video, thanks!
I love how Burr starts talking in hush tones like someone's going to hear him... lol.
Same thing today. I tried 3 settlements in the same systems and didn't see anything but grenade boxes.
Thanks for your donation!
😁@@stab74 No problem, those 100,000 credits for the fine are not really making a dent in my balance, so there.
He makes it look so easy. o7 CMDR Buur
Does this still work? I gave it a go tonight and while I was looting the other side of the settlement a security team dropped in and blew my SRV and ship up.
Hey Burr, that's a good habit. Stay Strapped or Get Clapped.
Laumas 1, Hoffman Manufacturing Depot, currently in Recovery
Very helpful, love taking the power regulator back bcuz we’re mean spirited😂 o7
Have visited 3 different sites from multiple systems each with over 1 week remaining in the appropriate states and all zero loot. Can anyone please confirm if this is still a thing or if there is some additional pertinent information for sourcing systems/settlements?
Yup, no loot for me. Sad. I feel these "scavengers" are severely overturned. Please give me only 1-3 scavengers in starting gear. I'm always up against 10-20 in upgraded gear and it's always, ALWAYS plasma weapons which 2 shot me.
Been to five differant systems and odyssey settlements today and this appears to no longer work as all crates and lockers are empty.
I've been trying this for a few days now, and every single time I get to a settlement, there's either scavengers there, or they show up while I'm inside. And I'm getting absolutely wasted every single time before I can even kill a single bad guy.
Same here. I'm going to try and "visit" these sites without a mission to see if that helps reduce spawns.
This doesn't seem to work anymore. No loot or data spawns now.
It would be nice to get some equipment of the scavenger's if they had any enhancements or loot on them.
When there is space to do so I aim my SRV at them and run them down, as I am needing the upgrades for my suits.
this is one thing star citizen did better can kill enemy npcs or guards and loot weapons ammo and what ever they were carrying
Make sure you don't login at the site... You have to enter from supercruise otherwise the game empties the lockers
That did indeed solve it.
I was so happy to be able to have looted the place, that i forgot the Power Regulator.
So had to "organise" another one.
How do you find a power restoration mission to get the regulator ?
Great video - ty.
Hello, there. Is this guide still current? I don't know crap about ground content and I'd like to give it a try.
Its smart so u cant escape
@@catherder6552 Thanks! That should help me out the next time.
o7 cmdr I would like to say a very very big thank you.
I like the AR-50 as well .
Yea, this doesn't work anymore. It's totally empty now, no stuff in lockers, containers nor data ports
I just completed my first, loaded the mats into the Scorpion, climbed in, and I was ambushed...dead before I could deply the turret! Must have been a dozen of them...
Thanks for the video. The thing is that my fps drops under 20 when I land on a settlement 🤷🏼♂️
I have found that occasionally the power won’t initialise which a little frustrating.
Finally a way to grind without tanking anarchy faction BGS lol.
Glad we dumped all those odyssey settlements.
H3L-91W always sells e breeches
This works great. However, take care when you travel to the system that you do not jump into thargoid systems and almost get destroyed...😂
Also, i noticed that scavengers come after I power down the base and take back by power regulator. Its actually quite annoying 😂.
Why did you worry about the alarms? Abandoned places don't get reinforcments.
Works a treat. Ta.
7:40 You missed a word in the script there:
"It is always possible that OTHER scavangers arrive..."
Get the G3s on Thursday!
The literal easiest way I have found to take dudes out in a settlement is with a class 2 or 3 dumb fire missile on a vulture so you can get super close. Alternatively, you could put a laser on the other side if you want to practice your aiming 😉
What do they say, "possession is 5/6th's of the law"?
If i had 100 credits for every time I've forgotten to grab the power regulator on my way out the door is have a second fleet carrier. 😂
On legal raid occasions, I have tendecy to use my silenced Eclipse and silenced (lol, FDev, really?) Karma L-6. Lasers for shields, rockets for meat
Noooice combo
@@TheBuurPit Thanks, and both of them are only G2. And I forgot basic Tormentor. EDIT: I am trying this metod but still I cant find bigger settlement than one with two buildings. Any suggestions?
what happens when there isnt anything too loot ?
I’d love to specifically farm power regulators without destroying my rep, racking up fines, or killing a bunch of people to do it. I’d put in a buy order on my carrier if anyone paid attention to those.
AX repower missions often have multiple power regulators as rewards.
@@SimWithDon Good to know
specifically on foot salvage missions that make you go to a distress beacon will have a ship that you can cut a panel and take a power regulator for free. no one there to witness the crime and it does not retain an illegal tag. i did this to get 7. typically just 1 per distress beacon ship
One thing I noticed - I maxed out everything much faster than data. Data is a real bottleneck, especially since you can't trade for it at the bartender.
And don't forget you can always run scavengers over with a SRV or even more fun nose bump them with your ship
And there was an opinion poll in the CMD date port.
I keep getting my ship blown up by magic spawning enemies while I'm inside.
If you've read the comment I wrote a minute ago inregard's to an other video you made, I can only say "DITTO"!
