Mama take this badge from me
    I can't use it anymore
It's getting dark too dark to see
Feels like I'm knockin' on heaven's door
    Knock-knock-knockin' on heaven's door
    Knock-knock-knockin' on heaven's door

Met Mr Dylan in 1974 down in the west village in a little place called the Backfence. Had people play on a tiny stage. I was backing a friend with my trusty blues harp. Dylan was at the bar as we played our last set. We ended our night with this song. Shit, how could we not. After the set Dylan came over and told us he liked the set. How cool is that? He was friendly and supportive. One of the highlights of my life.

Tagore did win the Nobel and for poetry mainly for his book of poems,"Gitanjali" and was a song writer.
Just the fact,he released his pieces as books and not as songs and later gave music to them.

Lori Hill Bob Dylan has had a promising past that reflects our species failure to live with a sense of humanity and purpose. Protesting the hypo races of our time. This fallen angel has has protested against the rising tide of conformity throughout his career. Dylan was a major influence for the people in America, a voice of consciousness and responsibility towards one another. An artist who had something to say about something important to say. Thanks for the upload.

If you think this performance sounds weird, consider this: Bob's musical talent has always been in his creativity. He built his legend on songs of his own creation that have been covered more times and by more famous musicians than almost ANY other. Now, consider that he's been made to play this song OVER and OVER for almost half a century. Never mind that he's tortured his vocal chords with cigarettes that whole time; don't you think he's earned the right to be creative with his own song? He's got nothing to prove anymore, it's just him and his songs, his legacy.

+Stefan Franzis He can't sing, but this is completely irrelevant for his music and his artistry. Good vocals mean nothing without the talent to write good songs and it is always better to have the second one, than the first one, if you are not blessed with both. Most of the biggest music artist weren't that good singers, but were brilliant in writing music (at least not in a Freddie Mercury sense). And usually nobody can't sing a song better than the person who wrote it and who feels and knows every word of it

This song is written from the perspective of a dying sheriff: "Mama, take this badge off of me/I can't use it anymore/It's gettin' dark, too dark for me to see/I feel like I'm knockin' on heaven's door." Dylan wrote it for the 1973 western film, Pat Garrett And Billy The Kid. It plays while Sheriff Colin Baker is dying from his gunshot wounds. Dylan cameos in the movie as the character, Alias.

Well, it's simple really. Bob Dylan is the ultimate modern poet who has portrayed his gift through music, thus enriching two sections of the arts. But let's bear in mind the fact that there are many who love his songs without realising he is the composer - and there are some great covers. Ultimately, this just bolsters his stature as one of the greatest songwriters of all time!
