Lyrics:
Mama take this badge from me
I can't use it anymore
It's getting dark too dark to see
Feels like I'm knockin' on heaven's door
Knock-knock-knockin' on heaven's door
Knock-knock-knockin' on heaven's door
Knock-knock-knockin' on heaven's door
Knock-knock-knockin' on heaven's door, eh yeah

Met Mr Dylan in 1974 down in the west village in a little place called the Backfence. Had people play on a tiny stage. I was backing a friend with my trusty blues harp. Dylan was at the bar as we played our last set. We ended our night with this song. Shit, how could we not. After the set Dylan came over and told us he liked the set. How cool is that? He was friendly and supportive. One of the highlights of my life.
Awesome story thanks for sharing
what a fine treasure of a memory to have forever!
oh what a lucky man you were
So magic
Is he's still alive ?
Fave version of this song, so much beauty, desperation, sorrow, hope, strength, all in one amazing vocal and instrumental performance
Bob dylan just won nobel prize . First songwriter to receive. He truly is a poet
Rabindranath Tagore was the first one
+Jorge Murcia thanks for correcting me.
Tagore did win the Nobel and for poetry mainly for his book of poems,"Gitanjali" and was a song writer.
Just the fact,he released his pieces as books and not as songs and later gave music to them.
Dylan is the first to win Nobel for lyrics. Tagore had lyrics but he himself translated them as poems in "Gitanjali".
daviddare100 He didnt win for his music, he won for his poetry(song writing) Noble prize in literature and poetry is part of literature.
in this version his voice is so fragile and soft like he is actually really knocking on heavens door. Can't hold back the tears and why on earth should I even want to anyways ?
Hi Joel
Tell me old man where did we lost those old days
Beautiful guitar playing, Bob
Hello dear, it’s nice meeting you on here.
Bob, your iconic existence has influenced hearts and stones for decades. 1972-present, you connect me with my Uncle Clint, your loyal follower. Thank you 🙏🏽

Bloody hell. He is possessed by the lord. How many got the Nobel prize...
@@ajaypalsinghbhatti8901 for literature ;) no offense, I respect his work, see my other comment. BTW, this unplugged evening, he must have been in a good mood. This is his good mood, I would say.

"I thought Bob Dylan was really brave to get onstage and sing off key like that, then I listened to the words and I got it." Jimi Hendrix.

If he hadn't sang that Unplugged and intune lol
@@rmpaine finally a comment that makes sense. Right on!

Bob Dylan, The most Creative Musical Genius in the last Century or more. I can't fathom how he wrote and sang these songs at 17 with so much vision for the future!!

Nice try, we know you're trolling.

+Catarina d'Orion haha
any doubt?
Lori Hill Bob Dylan has had a promising past that reflects our species failure to live with a sense of humanity and purpose. Protesting the hypo races of our time. This fallen angel has has protested against the rising tide of conformity throughout his career. Dylan was a major influence for the people in America, a voice of consciousness and responsibility towards one another. An artist who had something to say about something important to say. Thanks for the upload.
He wrote the song, he does whatever the hell he wants to with it. And this version is beautiful too.

Hope u learned how to play this song Now
Stood outside the rail of a high bridge one dark New England night with a frigid breeze in my soul. Was about to take the plunge when a car drove by playing this song. I froze in place and called out to The Almighty.. Still here listening.
Always knockin. Wondering who’s there

SOUNDED BETTER IN THE MOVIE. OF COURSE Dylan WASNT STONED OUT OF HIS FUCKING MIND AS USUALY THEN.
Frank Welch What movie?

I dont understand why people dislike this version . That intro was the best vibe i got from Bob dylan , the way he changed the flow entirely , no effort, and still sounded like a wizard king.
Lots of people don't get Dylan just like lots of people don't get Jesus.
You either get him or you don't, but when you do it's epic.
yeah man, preeach.
This song is so full of passion and damn great band backing him....the whole album was a keeper. Not a bad cut on the whole thing.

Really though. Figured out he’s the man last year. Now I jam out on guitar to his songs.
I really get him and love the emotional trip

all this time I thought Eric wrote that, then discovered it went farther back...but didn't remember Dylan singing it. Go Bob!!!!
My favourite thing about Bob Dylan is how each live performance is slightly different each time. Great musician and songwriter.
Only slightly?

I can see why GUNS 'N' ROSES wanted to cover this song, it's one of the most powerful songs, from a lyrical point of view
Hello how are you doing
This song is excellent from roughly 0:00 onwards
Hell yes 100%
Brings a tear to my eye to see Bob having so much fun playing to the crowd still to this day!!! Absolutely amazing and I love the way he did this one live!!! Long live BOB DYLAN!!
drth
If you think this performance sounds weird, consider this: Bob's musical talent has always been in his creativity. He built his legend on songs of his own creation that have been covered more times and by more famous musicians than almost ANY other. Now, consider that he's been made to play this song OVER and OVER for almost half a century. Never mind that he's tortured his vocal chords with cigarettes that whole time; don't you think he's earned the right to be creative with his own song? He's got nothing to prove anymore, it's just him and his songs, his legacy.
Great comment!
DG .Tinderbox and this is why he won the Nobel Prize for Literature
Camron Wafer It was the Nobel Prize in Literature, but yeah. Bob Dylan is great.
elijahpickens thanks for the correction.

ok an acquired taste, certainly for pagans like me
There's a certain magic to Bob Dylan. You can feel the story through his voice alone. The way he chooses to accentuate certain words is perfect.

Crazy
I personally love his voice. He puts
feelings into every word that he sings. That's what it is about. Feeling the songs he writes about.

What many people don’t get is he never claimed to be a good singer, he was a poet
Last Friday I was in karaoke bar in south Russia and we were singing that famous song with young officers from a coastal guard academy. Bob Dylan is forever!
Go Russia, go USA!!
Cheers from Spain
Bob Dylan's the man, fuck all the hateful comments regarding his voice.
well said friend
So you think this is "good"? Really? What's good about it? It's HORRIBLE.
Ima SuperPerson It's fucking raw and heartfelt, he's got fucking soul and it shows. Sure, he's not singing like a fucking opera singer, or these shitty generic pop artists of today, but the man is having a good time and his voice is raw and everything else I put up further in the comment. It's good dude. What makes it so bad? Damn.
Evan Middlekauff
- He sang fine in the early part of his career. He burned out early - well known - and frankly, just didn't give a shit how he sang thereafter. And over time, it just got worse. He can sing - he just doesn't try. If you think that's a good thing, you are certainly entitled to your opinion. I find it impossible to listen to.
I totally agree with you friend
The drums are killer in this song. Dylan looks back a couple of times. Great sound
My favorite version of this song by him or anyone else. I love the man's voice.
Mine too, 100%, it's the personal imperfections that makes a thing great
His voice was a bit better when he was younger but yes he is great.
Me too fr
No, no, no. It's real good. At this point in his career it was shades of genius
@@stevewilson5402 I agree with you genius love this.✨️👍
no one sings Dylan better than Dylan. and if you think he can not sing you just don't get it.
+Stefan Franzis Correct, A person's voice doesn't have to be "pretty" to be great.
I love his voice, but the whole thing with Dylan is stories. He is a story teller, not a singer. I love him anyway.
+Stefan Franzis He can't sing, but this is completely irrelevant for his music and his artistry. Good vocals mean nothing without the talent to write good songs and it is always better to have the second one, than the first one, if you are not blessed with both. Most of the biggest music artist weren't that good singers, but were brilliant in writing music (at least not in a Freddie Mercury sense). And usually nobody can't sing a song better than the person who wrote it and who feels and knows every word of it
Like you said, most people just don't get it and the are ducking idiots!!!
you got it mate there is no one like him Robert SINOMIN his real name
And he gets a Nobel prize in literature 2016 for this amazing piece of work!!
What literature he wrote? Very funny.........

Y'all need to hush about his singing. This man right here is a legend. Everything withers with age, and its evident that his age has taken quite the toll on his vocals. However, it suits the song rather well. This is not only an amazing song, but an amazing man.

This song is written from the perspective of a dying sheriff: "Mama, take this badge off of me/I can't use it anymore/It's gettin' dark, too dark for me to see/I feel like I'm knockin' on heaven's door." Dylan wrote it for the 1973 western film, Pat Garrett And Billy The Kid. It plays while Sheriff Colin Baker is dying from his gunshot wounds. Dylan cameos in the movie as the character, Alias.
In the beginning there was him then all the others came
He looks like an old Adam Sandler.

My favorite song of all times! Obviusly just the performed by Bob Dylan, it is HIS SONG!
Shut up guys and hear that song without think about version of Guns.
When Dylan was born God touched him on the shoulder and said "You my son, you".
And Bob said where you want this Killin done
2:45 the way he sings "feel like im knockin' on heaven's door" make me chill and getting nostalgic for no reason
Es un magistral y hermoso tema , con interpretación solo de Bob Dylan en y este estilo...
Well, it's simple really. Bob Dylan is the ultimate modern poet who has portrayed his gift through music, thus enriching two sections of the arts. But let's bear in mind the fact that there are many who love his songs without realising he is the composer - and there are some great covers. Ultimately, this just bolsters his stature as one of the greatest songwriters of all time!
the drummer in this clip is the same drummer that he used in woodstock man he plays a really good drume
He never went to woodstock
He played in Woodstock in 1994.
I SWEAR DYLAN HAS MPD (Multiple Personality Disorder).
I swear like 15 voices came out of him.
Lol. I prefer Guns n Roses' version!!! although dylan is the original.
Sounds as though his voice is gone.
...hahaha-you cant be more right but its the fact that he has never taken any vocal lessons in his life and he is trying to get the right tune during the song by improvising random notes that actually creates such a weird sound...
θοδωρης μετζελος ...you probably have no idea what means to have an opinion and being brave enough to express it-by behaving as childish as you did you proved yourself unsuitable to consider yourself to be a supporter of a unique artist as Bob Dylan happens to be-we dont need you around and trust me neither does Dylan
Really, GNR what a horrible choice to even let them cover that song. Of course Dylan wrote the song but whoever does own the publishing rights should never have let a group like GNR touch this classic.
