My dawg Revis might be the last true shutdown corner in the history of the game. The impact he had on his team’s defenses in his prime was unreal. He literally made his side of the field unthrowable.
For years, the best QBs in the league completely avoided throwing in his direction. He was the best defensive player in the league during his Jets days, and a Top 5 player overall. Revis in his prime (08-15) was easily the best cover corner of this generation, maybe the 2nd best ever, only to Prime Time. The numbers just don’t do justice to how impactful he was as a defensive player, it’s unexplainable. You had to have seen him play his entire career .
His 2009 season was the greatest we’ve ever seen for a cornerback. Shut down some of the best receivers to ever play the game that year. What’s impressive about Revis is that he did it in a pass-heavy era, he played at a historic level in a league where QBs threw the ball all over the place. It was just him and the opposing team’s #1 receiver on an island, and Revis always won. Going into every game, opposing offenses knew their #1 guy was going to be a non factor
He also made over $124 million dollars in cash value in his career, more than any DB ever. In a league where DBs don’t get the money they deserve. Revis always made sure he was getting paid what he was worth. In this age of sports where loyalty doesn’t exist, he did whatever he could to gain leverage with FOs and team management. He was relentless in cashing in max dollars. I got mad respect for him because of that .
Revis will always be one of my favorite players in NFL History, and he’s definitely one of the best as well. His impact on the game should always be remembered. There will never be another player quite like him. First ballot HOF and NFL Legend #LongLiveRevisIsland 🏝

@Dark Demonik With all of that you wrote the fact that you didnt at least give him credit for being a good coach is dumb founding. In his short tenure there he accomplished more than Gase and the other HC and it's not even close. If you wanna blame someone blame the sorry ass FO for accepting below mediocrity play and coaching and also relying on a 21 year old kid to save this franchise instead of a wise head coach who can call a great game through and through. You can't blame Ryan because Gase was an overrated coach who literally had 1 winning season his whole career. And Rex Ryan didn't coach Sam Darnold now did he? No Gase and the coach before him we're suppose to mold him into a respectable QB and couldn't and Gase even admitted it!!!! Dont blame the last two regimes blame the people in charge now and hokd them accoubtable becauae if you alll were 11-0 instead of 0-11 you wouldn't even be thinking about Rex Ryan.

I was at this game. I'd been to maybe fifteen games at Giants Stadium. The stadium had never been louder. You could feel the ground shaking. So say what you want about Rex, about Sanchez, about Woody, about whomever -- if you were a Jets fan, you knew that '09 season was the start of something special. It would be short-lived, sure, but you felt like the Jets had arrived. I don't think I'll ever see another Jets D that was as special as that one. The rolled coverages, the freaky blitzes, the speed and the tenacity -- Revis made it all possible

Second, Revis has shut down Moss every game they matched up other than that single play; watch the film and check the stats. • @miked3723
      @miked3723 4 года назад

It was the Jets defensive scheme at that time more so than the individual players was my point. Moss was bigger faster and could jump higher than Revis. But the offensive scheme that the Patriots used was ineffective and could never get the ball to Moss.

    • @sarthshah7276
      @sarthshah7276 4 года назад +1

@@miked3723 Mike D i very much disagree for a few reasons. it is well known that Revis would line up one on one with Moss without safety help many times a game. If you look at the film, you can also see how many times the safety (if single high) is not center but actually away from Moss's side. On top of that, Revis would line up press up on Moss. Also, just as in this video, all the picks Revis had over Moss were jump ball scenarios.
Just rewatch this video and watch how the jets defense lines up. Look at the very first play. It was man to man with Revis pressed up on Moss while the opposite side was slightly off man and softer. Also, you acn see how the safeties pay more attention to the other receivers instead of Moss.
Just watch the film, and you can see that it's all Revis. It was not the defensive scheme that shut down Moss.

Young man, there's no need to feel down
I said, young man, pick yourself off the ground
I said, young man, 'cause you're in a new town
There's no need to be unhappy
Young man, there's a place you can go
I said, young man, when you're short on your dough
You can stay there, and I'm sure you will find
Many ways to have a good time
It's fun to stay at the YMCA
It's fun to stay at the YMCA
They have everything for you men to enjoy
You can hang out with all the boys
It's fun to stay at the YMCA
It's fun to stay at the YMCA
You can get yourself clean, you can have a good meal
You can do what about you feel
Young man, are you listening to me?
I said, young man, what do you want to be?
I said, young man, you can make real your dreams
But you got to know this one thing
No man does it all by himself
I said, young man, put your pride on the shelf
And just go there, to the YMCA
I'm sure they can help you today
It's fun to stay at the YMCA

I said, I was down and out with the blues
I felt no man cared if I were alive
I felt the whole world was so tight
That's when someone came up to me
And said, young man, take a walk up the street
There's a place there called the YMCA
They can start you back on your way
It's fun to stay at the YMCA

2008 through 2010 were the low points of this patriot dynasty.
*2008* February: Giants beat NE in the SB. Week 1 2008 Brady is out for the year.
    *2009* was a lame-duck 10-6 season with an embarrassing home wild-card loss.
*2010* looked good (Brady MVP) but lost everything in the Divisional round @ home vs the Jets.
Those 3 years mentioned, and '02 and '05, are the only seasons the Brady-Patriots didn't make the AFC Championship game.
