Success!! Thanks again for posting this method.. probably about my fifth or so attempt at sourdough previously using different methods which all ended in failure. Either the starter would not become strong enough to even bother trying to make bread, or the loaf would come out like an inedible brick 😢.. this method worked great for me 😊
@@ModernPrairieHomesteadalso just had success with putting starter in fridge for a couple weeks, then bringing it back to life to make more bread , so hopefully I can keep this alive now indefinitely! .. thx again for posting your method
Hi, thx for posting this method.. I am trying it, but sadly on day 3 I forgot to do the discard/feed thing in the morning, so now I am like 12 hrs past the 24 hr mark 😢.. I will go ahead and try to carry on and see what happens but I noticed the starter has already grown like crazy! Hopefully not burned itself out yet..
@@ModernPrairieHomesteadhi! I am on day 7 or 8 now.. the starter seems super active but I can’t make the bread until Tuesday.. do I just keep doing the same discard/1 cup flour/half cup water each day until then?
Love this, very helpful and the bread looks amazing.. I'm confused on the recipe where you say with the discard and active starter... could you please explain that part. I'm very new and just beginning, also during the starter process what are you doing with all of the discard? Thank you
Hi! Thanks for the question! If you check out the “shorts” on my page I did a full 7 day walk through there on how to start your starter and get it active. During those days before your starter is active you unfortunately just discard the half each day. Once your starter is active and you are regularly making bread or other sourdough goods you can use your starter discard everyday to make something fun.
@@ModernPrairieHomestead thank you! I didn't realize how much flour it takes to start the starter 😮 do you also have another video on how to keep the first starter and use it ongoing?
@@truet4754not yet! But usually I put mine in the fridge (after feeding, and making my loaves) and it will go dormant (ish)… then when I would like to make bread again about 3 days prior I begin feeding again. You could also feed everyday and use the discard everyday.. but I don’t bake that often so I usually put it in the fridge in between!
@@ModernPrairieHomestead my question might have been confusing. I would like to know what amount of poolish do you take out of that jar and put it in the dough you are making. Everyone says how to make it but no amount you put into the dough you are making. does this help, ty/
I am on day two of following this video to make my second attempt at sourdough lol the first one was dense and I was following a different video from someone else. My mother sent me your video and I just have one question what size Dutch oven should I use?

Happy you’re trying! Honestly I would feed it and see if it can revive itself (it is way hardier than you’d think) the times can be pretty flexible.

how much poolish do I add when making bread dough. new to this. thank you
I have read you can substitute poolish for sourdough starter at a 1-1 ratio - this bread that I made in my video is with a sourdough starter base!

Hey! I use a relatively large one, medium sized would probably work fine too! Thank you for following along I hope your loaves turn out great!!
