We need to remember that Sony isn't just a video game company but one with its fingers in many industries and rights now its semiconductor business, especially that related to camera sensors is its biggest and most profitable business as they own a very large uncontested marketshare in that business. That said we need to realize that every acquisition made by Sony would not be related to its games business.
I think they would be investing in support Studios. The main issues with AAA gaming atm is time and money. Costs are spiraling out of control and development time is becoming longer and longer. If Sony want to bank on big hit franchises (GoT, Gow, Spider-man, Horizon etc), then they just need pure man power to get the games completed in a reasonable amount of time.
Yeah but Spider-Man is a kids game. They were like nah kids with Xbox can’t play Spider-Man anymore. For older gamers we’ve played plenty of Spider-Man. Tbh it’s old to me. But for kids that’s kinda messed up. Idk a lot of kids who get to choose which console they get for Christmas. Most families it’s a budgetary thing.
The PlayStation division and their health care is their most lucrative business areas. Sony is no we’re as big as people think. Especially when compared to Microsoft, Google, Apple, Samsung etc. All of those companies can buy all of Sony out countless times over and not be in a big financial problem.
What Sony is (and should be) worried about is losing big 3rd party IP's to Xbox, Amazon, etc.. Companies that would take those IPs and keep them away from Sony or cause Sony to make less profit from them. So I think Sony is going to be playing chess, trying to figure out their opponents next move and then swooping in to prevent it by getting there first. I don't see Square Enix as a priority. Square doesn't want to work with Xbox so I don't see them going anywhere. They can stay 3rd party and Sony won't need to spend the money on them. A company like Capcom though? That's up for grabs.
I don't think Sony has to worry about Microsoft buying Japanese companies. If Microsoft buys Activision, then the major players for Sony to look at are Ubisoft, EA, WB, and Take2. I don't think even Microsoft is going to buy Take2, because GTA is making so much money and would be valued up the wazoo. Ubisoft would be the easiest target to acquire. WB would be a good pick-up to get Rocksteady and Mortal Kombat. If someone buys EA, that would be huge. That's Madden, Bioware, DICE, and Respawn.
Even if Sony doesn't just flat out buy a developer, what they could do is buy a majority share of multiple studios so they have a lot of say in what happens with said developer(s). So can you imagine if PlayStation owns a majority share of companies like Square-Enix, Capcom, Konami, Bandai Namco, Kojima Production, Blue Point, Insomniac, FromSoftware, etc... Basically the major Japanese developers? Now that would be a *major* strategic move.
Wish Sony and Microsoft can quit buying up the Competitions because these Giants just happen to buy Studios they see fit in other words bad news for us as customers.
Agree, however it's a bit of false equivalence when PlayStation may purchase a Japanese Publisher that has a history of not developing for Xbox due to low sales numbers vs Xbox acquiring massive worldwide Publishers that have long histories of 3rd party AAA development. PlayStations acquisitions help Sony and don't change the landscape much than it already is. Xboxs acquisitions are changing the landscape of gaming forever. Not saying I'm for or against, since I play on both anyway at this point but one is a bit more impactful than the other which could be really good or lead to horrible consequences.
It depends on the companies they're buying, i think for now is fine, none of the companies Microsoft and Sony acquired for now is an actual threat to the gaming industry as a whole.
@@tb1235 Yes. Phil Spencer is trying to make Game Pass the Netflix of gaming, so he wants to buy up as many publishers as he can, so Microsoft will own as many games on Game Pass that they can. If they own those games, then they don't have to pay publishers for those games, and Game Pass costs less money for them to run. Although, I still feel that the Game Pass business model will inevitably fail, and Phil will be replaced by the time the next gen Xbox launches. He seems to love spending Microsoft's money and having no Xbox Series X games to show for it.
@@tb1235 No, Sony makes deals to keep games & content off xbox, it has nothing to do with sales numbers, square enix confirmed as much about why final fantasy is exclusive. No need to bend over backwards for Sony. MSFT doesnt need to buy publishers, they could just make deals to keep games from playstation and the effect would be no different than if msft outright bought those studios.
If there's one glaring weakness I hope Sony addresses with a future acquisition, is a team capable of delivering true western RPGs. Not the light skills you see in GoW or Horizon, I want character creation, stats, perks and builds
If Microsoft can be scrutinized for cloud gaming which have miniscule influence on gaming. If the Market leader Sony isn't scrutinized more, it'll raise some serious questions.
They'll get worse scrutiny at this point otherwise regulators will make themselves look stupid. Sony will most likely continue with smaller studios that won't be scutinised
The only reason why i selfishly want Sony to acquire Square is for them to revive Parasite Eve. Imagine a big budget, cinematic Parasite Eve with the typical Playstation premium feel to it, and maybe to avoid future blunders like Forspoken, and Square's current love affair with NFTs.

I want them to bring back Socom and Grand Trophy. I also agree Sony overpaid for Destiny and should of bought Nexon as they specialise in online games plus also own Embark which is made up of former Dice devs and the developer of Arc Raiders and The Finals.
The gaming community and even most governments loss any right to give pushg back with due to their behavior with MS and ABK as well as bugthesda. Precedence has been set. They paved the road for sony. If buying a companies like that werent seen as bad for the market then i don't see how any purchase from sony for a while will. This was probably why sony fought MS on this. If MS loses all is good. If MS wins then it paves the coarse for sony with little to no push back because they shot down all arguments and those can easily be used if anyone tries. I personally didn't want this to happen but here we are and well you have to adapt or get left behind.

They already couldn't afford to give their employees raises this year due to this ABK buy. Not to mention they have a wealth of other divisions that are using the remaining 30%. So what money? And who? The likely hood of a japanese dev is low due to japanese laws. Now you are struck with big devs who won't be bought easily. EA, Take Two, cdpr, ubisoft. All of them are outside of MS' grasp currently. Youre just spouting shit with out any thought behind it.
The reality is Sony is unlikely to ever pony up the kind of capital required to buy out a publisher, especially in this new climate where all the deals being made are remaining multiplatform. Activision Blizzard & Bungie. If Sony isn’t prepared to put their games on PC day one, and isn’t prepared to go subscription model day one first party like gamepass, then what is the upside if you’re still making all these games for your competition? @@densetsu4286 not exactly apples to apples. Microsoft post ABK merger will still be a smaller entity in gaming than Sony is right now. That and they need gamepass to fail to validate them sticking to the console model of old. Hard to blame them. Obviously no reason for them to want it.

Sony should buy all of Kadokawa. Smartest move to shore up their anime and have a little monopoly in that industry as well as owning Fromsoft. Kadokawa market cap is just 5 billion. I think lots of anime IPs have as much potential as DC and Marvel myself to branch to movies, tv, video games. Been saying for years now.
Yes sony is more than just playstation and thats why going after both bandai namco and SE would help them in multiple of ways. Both namco bandai and SE are also heavily into the entertainment business with anime and manga. Those are things that sony are heavily interested in. Another good buy is capcom. This bolsters their evo purchase by a lot. Then theres fromsoftware who has repeatedly done a lot of projects for sony and when a dev has done stuff like this for them usually they get brought in to being 1st party. Then theirs kojima studios. Which is using a lot of sony tech and has heavy support from them. Its very possible that they could be brought in as well. But ultimately right now both bandai namco and SE makes the most sense as they fill many other parts of sony portfolio outside of gaming.
@@banjo9158 Cant find anything on namco bandai stating they don't want to be acquired. All there is, they stated that M&A are hurting their business and that they are having issues finding other studios to partner up with and publish games. But that was back in august of 2022. Kojima has stated that he is not loking to be acquired back in 2022. Sounds rock solid but anything can happen. However his main goal for opening his studio was the freedom to create what he wanted and not money driven. So while it does sound like it will be a hard no at this time, if the right deal comes along that allows him the creative freedom to do what he wants then it is plausible. But in this same article he says he isn't backed by anyone which isn't really true. He is being backed heavily by Sony. Sony has provided him one of their proprietary engines, they have struck up exclusivity deals which is basically a form of funding, not to mention he is getting a lot of treatment that a lot of first party studios get. So his stance could change.
Sony does not have the capital to purchase any of those listed. Bandai Namco is worth more than they have available. Even Square Enix is presently worth more than they have, nevermind Capcom who is extremely successful in comparison to Square Enix's current cap.
@Kuri Cosmos you are factually wrong on nearly every part of your comment. Depending on which number is correct (cause there are quite a few) they are generally around 5-7 billion or as high as 16bil. While that high would be a bit out of sony's current cash on hand they can still be purchased. And SE is also 6 bil. Both are easily within Sony purchasing power. As well as Capcom. Now they cannot do all of them in a single year. No. But a major buy every other year or so is extremely possible.
do we forget that Sony owns Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Classics? it’s conceivable that they’d put a lot of money into more than just video games.
As A Former PlayStation Player, Sony Lost All It's Heart The Day Microsoft Bought Bethesda Softworks! All Bethesda Games Moving Forward Will Be Console Sellers For Microsoft And With Microsoft Planning To Aquire Rockstar & Ubisoft Next Year, This Move Will Greatly Cripple Sony.
I cannot see Microsoft acquiring Take Two. Ubisoft is possible, but they are a mess it seems so hard to say. Take Two would have to want to sell, which I don’t think is likely, but I will admit they’d make sense as a target. Microsoft would love to get their hands on Zynga. King and Zynga would be a huge shot in the arm for their mobile App Store plans
It’s going to be tough for them to go for any of the larger companies that are publicly traded because there’s multiple companies, not just Microsoft, that could easily outbid them.
If we are at the point that we think exclusivity means that it makes sense to buy a company then we are finished 😂 SO many exclusive games are exclusives because they were paid to be, does not mean they will be acquired, that’s stupid. Square could still be bought but that’s not the reason why.
I would have agreed with you before Square sold crystal dynamics. Now I think Square wants to stay independent. Otherwise, why wouldn't they have just sold it to Sony or waited to get acquired? Plus, I don't think Square really fits Sony as well as it used to. Sony has moved towards the west, and square has arguably doubled down on their Japanese roots

I find if funny people have so little knowledge of Sony. You all realize that the financial/insurance arm has been (up until PS4 really taking over and contributing in 2018 onward) the biggest and most consistent contributor to Sony financially. Their financial arm profits is pretty much the only reason they were able to survive their financial crisis 2013 and not have to sell off large portions of the company. The insurance end has been down slightly but it still represents a great deal more of Sony's OI (operating income) than any other division except for PS. The financial division is 3rd in revenue for Sony and second in overall contribution to profits.
Maybe. But the regulators didn’t seem to care that much about exclusivity for COD on MS platforms. Sony are a lot bigger in terms of market share but if MS spending $70b and getting COD wasn’t a massive deal (plus their other acquisitions) then Sony spending a significant amount less might be no problem at all
@Matt Holt What the regulators are concerned about is market share What Microsoft is spending doesn't really matter They're not regulating the money that's spent.

Sony should buy Square though. Square shed Eidos specifically to make themselves a more sensible buyout. Sony also doesn't have many remaining Japanese studios despite being a Japanese company. They need to rebuild that part of the company. Rockstar is too valuable and it's value would tank if they couldn't release multiplatform, same with Capcom. It’s a lot of money for a purchase, arguably well more than they could possibly muster, that Sony would probably not get any real benefit out of. It’s not secret deals when everyone knows and when the person making the game says they went to companies and Sony offer a better deal what do you expect square to say

I don’t think they overspent on Bungie. They spent the amount of money they did to retain the talent they were acquiring. You don’t want to purchase a studio and then have the key people who make it special leave.
You overlooked something in your video. Namely technology companies. A couple of years ago Sony showed off a car with the intent to promote technology that can be used in automobiles. It's possible that if they still have an interest in that sector, they may look at companies that design and sell tech to be used by the automobile industry.
Most likely I think is square enix, maybe Konami games division and it's IPs. Sega possibly since the Japanese government likes to keep Japanese companies Japanese unlike Microsoft.

Ubisoft & Konami are the front runners for the next ps buyout. I know square Enix was on standby, but not sure what’s going on with that. I’ve actually warmed up a lot to Ubisoft given what they did with Nintendo / Mario, South Park games were exceptional, all those shooters have been highly rated and division is pretty dope. I’d throw money at them for sure. Also got the assassins legacy and watch dogs too. Far Cry of course too. Those 2 would be the biggest game changers to stay competitive with Microsoft.
Sony buying up Ubi Soft could kick them of the habit of trying to make everything a live service or open world game. One thing Sony is fairly good on is letting their successful studios do their own thing without too much interference, which could potentially be a morale boost for the developers working at Ubi Soft.
Sony won’t ever buy Take Two, EA, etc. The fanboys can hang that up. I’m not sure they could buy Capcom. I do think they’ll eventually acquire Square after their NFT endeavors tank. And Xbots won’t really care cuz they don’t get to play a lot of Square stuff anyway.
Unfortunately none of the acquisitions they can make could match Bethesda or Activision/Blizzard. They’re gonna buy square and then what? Lol most of square’s games are already PlayStation exclusive

@@G360LIVE WB is not selling their game studios and IP without selling themselves.

Didn't Bandai Namco and Kojima Studios said they don't want to sell?

@@smok3sho587 They did not buy Bungie just for the IP, they want their experience and developers to help with online games.
You overlooked something in your video. Namely technology companies. A couple of years ago Sony showed off a car with the intent to promote technology that can be used in automobiles. It's possible that if they still have an interest in that sector, they may look at companies that design and sell tech to be used by the automobile industry.
Sony is going to be acquiring game studios. You can count on that.
Most likely I think is square enix, maybe Konami games division and it's IPs. Sega possibly since the Japanese government likes to keep Japanese companies Japanese unlike Microsoft.
Sony better get as much scrutiny as MS did with A/B
why should they? activision is the biggest non-asian publisher out there
Activision deal is worth 70 billion dollars. You donkey
They will but then they can just be like yall allowed xbox to buy Bethesda and abk we should be allowed to buy ...... etc
Its almost as if Activision is FAR FAR bigger then anyone else. Its a different story
Why would they? They're a Jap company potentially buying another Jap game studio.
* All these companies are stupid..Use that money to own and create your own studios/IPs....Stop wasting money buying companies, and use that money to offer those companies employees +30% pay increase to join your company instead. = I should be running this stuff
I thought the title said Movie 😭
Ubisoft & Konami are the front runners for the next ps buyout. I know square Enix was on standby, but not sure what’s going on with that. I’ve actually warmed up a lot to Ubisoft given what they did with Nintendo / Mario, South Park games were exceptional, all those shooters have been highly rated and division is pretty dope. I’d throw money at them for sure. Also got the assassins legacy and watch dogs too. Far Cry of course too. Those 2 would be the biggest game changers to stay competitive with Microsoft.
I'd be hopeful for Konami because they own several IPs that really need new entries, like Suikoden, Castlevania, Metal Gear, Contra, and Silent Hill.
But 20,000+ employees? If Ubisoft ends up with couple bad years, Sony could go bankrupt. And then they’d have to deal w French labor laws.
Sony buying up Ubi Soft could kick them of the habit of trying to make everything a live service or open world game. One thing Sony is fairly good on is letting their successful studios do their own thing without too much interference, which could potentially be a morale boost for the developers working at Ubi Soft.
Idk if they can buy ubisoft.
@@banjo9158 it’s in their ballpark price wise.
New rule
If you think that sony will buy square enix, you should shut up and now talk about this subject
It is what I was thinking as well. Square has a good relationship with Sony.
Unfortunately none of the acquisitions they can make could match Bethesda or Activision/Blizzard.
They’re gonna buy square and then what? Lol most of square’s games are already PlayStation exclusive
Unfortunately?😂, Just because their worth alot doesn't mean their WORTH alot, Capcom, Square and plenty of other companies have better IP and are very desirable. Great deals aren't determined by how much they costed to make, just look at PS buying Insomniac for 200 mil i believe, their worth way more than that now but thats called a good investment.
I can see them acquiring a VR developer or two, another pc porting studio. A handful of small to mid size game developers. Perhaps a support studio or two. And then just build the size of some of your existing studios
Also Sony still have about 5.1 billions dollars left from last year. So in total that its 13.1 billions to spend on.
Many believe it was gonna be Konami but seem it isn't due to metal gears solid 3 remake gonna be on many console/PC ( maybe time exclusively)
Probably gonna be square 6.27B, Capcom 5.25B. Total 11.5B. That sounds pretty good overall.
They already own Crunchyroll
@SP just notice it. Thanks for the update
Yeah, that's not happening...
@@Kyt2024 I honestly couldn't care less about square enix, but I do care about capcom and I don't think capcom would sell out
Strategery
Sony don’t have money for big moves at all they played their hand already for 2023 and settled for buying out 3rd party exclusivity end of story
Sony should buy microsoft
yeah make more interactive movie games! that will show microsoft.
I hope Sony buys Microsoft so we can have a good Halo game.
You sure they shouldn't acquire apple?
@@banjo9158 Halo for iPhone fire 🔥🔥🔥
I would love to see Sony buy Konami. So we might see remasters of MGS 1-4 and Contra, Super C Contra III, Castlevania 1-3, Super Castlevania. Release a new Castlevania.
They can’t afford Konami. They could theoretically just buy the IP (SH, MGS, CVania) but Konami would want to hold the rights to using the IP for gambling purposes.
@@marwynthemasterful6369 Sony wouldn't even want Konami as a whole. They have no interest in Konami's non-entertainment divisions.
Sony would have to buy the IPs away from Konami and I'm sure Konami's asking price won't be low. And Sony likes to make acquisitions that come with talent. Konami has zero development talent. That's why they outsourced the upcoming Silent Hill games.
Konami is probably already planning to do a new Castlevania anyway, plus, they'll probably gonna remaster some of those games, even if sony bought them is not guarantee they would remake all those games.
We all know its square enix
Do you think 8 Billion would be enough to pay for Konami, Rockstar, Squaresoft, & Capcom?
Sony buys a publisher it will be for the PlayStation 6. They aren’t going to anything for now.
I'm going to say something that will make Sony fans mad.i don't think they will be be ip hunting/publisher hording the way MS does. I can see them focusing more on development studios to pump out the ones they have(comment sections are filled with the "they should buy Konami and bring mgs back". Ignoring that they could get the same results by just bringing syphon filter back without buying anyone) and making the PC ports better. Though the buying shares in the ff team that you float is something I can see happening as they basically did that back in the 90's-early 00's.
Didn't the playstation higher ups say there like 20 new ip in the works. I think playstation it is more likely buy more small studios to be aquired to make use of the talent.
Simply put Sony will aquire based on talent, not based on ip.
Making Sony fans mad is a virtue.. the most pretencious gamers in existence
Why would that be making anyone upset, thats a reasonable take
But wrong nonetheless
@@KamalaChameleon says the aggressor lmao
@@KamalaChameleon I'm a Sony fan. Nothing said made me mad, it makes sense.
Sony wants talent to make good games with new ip, not studios with pre-existing ip.
This is rich considering how vehemently Sony is against Microsoft’s acquisition.
Of Activision, one of the top ten Publishers in the world and a fairly big contributor to PlayStations success. They didn't cry when Zenimax was acquired, another Publisher. Are you equating Konami, Square Enix or Capcom to Activision/Blizzard?
@@tb1235 IMO, square and capcom together has more value than activision blizzard, they have the biggest ip in some of the biggest genres in video games, activision blizzard is the more lucrative one for sure, but microsoft is already super rich anyway, why would we concern that they could get more money? it doesn't matter.
@@banjo9158 they can't acquire both. They can only choose one.
@@northernseeker1822 They can acquire both eventually, one, and than the other, and i think Sony would do that if they were to acquire one.
@@banjo9158 Still, there will be a set time between large acquisitions of certain amount.
Probably either remedy or koei tbh
lol nobody expected them to buy bungie so anything is open for them and THEY DONT WANT TO BE LEFT BEHIND sony CEO
What more could they want? Exclusive Sony paw patrol game. Kids can only get PlayStation lmfao. Exclusive Batman? Just kind of make everything everyone like’s exclusive so nobody has a choice? They really got me with Spider-Man. Although it can be skipped because although it’s a good game it doesn’t reinvent Spider-Man games. Also the gaming industry does have less and less exclusives every year it seems like overall.
Maybe fromsoftware
They should buy all of Kadokawa. Smartest move to shore up their anime and have a little monopoly in that industry as well as owning Fromsoft. Kadokawa market cap is just 5 billion. I think lots of anime IPs have as much potential as DC and Marvel myself to branch to movies, tv, video games. Been saying for years now.
yea this is to invest in what ever they want without worrying to much about it a lot of people are weird about the money Sony set aside for investments i think taketwo/zanga square enix or capcom like people want wont be this money or the other money they set aside they would borrow against their stock and leverage it to increase the yearly income and just pay it back to the banks
I think they could have one big studio mine like square or canotomy or you'll UB sole or even capcom
Can we get over the idea that they're buying square or capcom that's way too much money for them to spend they're not Microsoft,
But the gaming wars are dead right ???? 😂😂😂
This live service saga of Sony will come down as the biggest blunder since ps3 launch .
CD Project, Capcom o Square.
i think take two or capcom would more likey be a deal where they pay in instalments or with shares or some thing but never say never r * and sonys allways been close
I hope they don’t get Konami
Why?
@@sonicthehedgehog1606 Because they have metal gear and I would like metal gear to be on every platform and I just stuck on Sony. I mean I have all consoles , but I only have a PlayStation for any really really good game that’s all.

I want to choose where I want to play
Oh well, i cant play Bethesda games anymore 🤷♂️
Unlikely happening. Konami deals with too many things outside gaming. So unless Konami are willing to part with their IP
