We’re James & Sarah, welcome to our self converted Mercedes Sprinter van tour!
Over the last 6 years we’ve travelled full time, spending most of our time in Latin America. But when the global pandemic hit, forcing us to press pause on our international adventures, we returned to the UK & built a home in a van.
Designed for complete off grid living, we’re taking you inside our tiny home on wheels to show you all the unique features such as our full kitchen, hot water shower, spare bed, solar power set up & spacious wardrobe.
From empty panel van to super comfy campervan, it took 5 months of hard graft to complete and there was plenty of drama involved.
Next up we’ll be releasing a complete chronological series of the DIY van build from start to finish - be sure to subscribe so you don’t miss that.
We’re now living full time in our tiny home on wheels & when it’s safe to do so, hope you’ll join us here on our future travels around the UK and beyond.
Let us know in the comments what you think of our DIY camper conversion!

Your work on the cabinets is stunning work. Can i ask you how much the stick on tiles were and where did you get them if its not to rude to ask. The van is so homely great work.
Thank you! The cabinets took absolutely ages to be fair 😅.
The stick on tiles were around £40 per pack and a pack only covers around 0.8m squared. So pretty expensive! But they’re relatively easy to work with, lightweight and there’s no danger of them falling off or cracking. We ordered one pack off Amazon and the second we were lucky enough to find 2nd hand on eBay for half the price. Hope that helps 😉
@@TheWholeWorldorNothing oh thanks for answering me . Yep a little pricey, just want to add i love the way you did the spare bed, its done better than the way most do with adding a piece of board. You're way is so much neater and with storage, bonus. Surprised doggy hasn't claimed it lol.
What is the length of your van? And what’s the weight capacity?
It’s a long wheel base so just under 7 metres and it’s a 3.5 tonne capacity. We’re going to do a video on the weight and dimensions and weight saving tips etc at some stage so keep a lookout for that 😊
You’ve squeezed every last bit out of the van and with amazing creativity and Herculean perseverance you’ve created a thing of beauty!
You’re truly an inspiration.
Ah thank you so much, it means a lot ☺️
This is the best layout I've seen yet. 100%💜
Thank you. It certainly works for us, glad you like it 😊
Yes it is very unique! Surprises everywhere
Thank you 😊
I am laughing about the triangular kitchen layout , so everything is within reach 🤣. Easily nailed that 👍
Yeah less a design choice, more a necessity 🤣 Could probably reach everything from bed!
@@TheWholeWorldorNothing 😂🤣😂
I’m thinking the same triangle is used in our home kitchens? Stove, frig and sink? Maybe?
Exactly 😀
I absolutely love your camper van so practical and bright. Having a bathroom is very important and it's absolutely lovely to see the stars while in bed.
This is by far the best van conversion I have seen. It’s so different than others and I love how everything has a place and it’s so clean and versatile. Great job!!! Y’all truly deserve to be in a magazine or a tv show. Good luck on your future journey!
Ah thank you so much, that’s lovely of you to say 😊 Glad you enjoyed it 😀
I AGREE 100%
😀😊
As a man of 6ft3, I was happy to stumble across this video! Do not get to see as many builds with this bed layout. Really well thought out. Lights are great too. All the best
I love the cooking triangle!
I think it’s a thing 🤣
Hello, my nice people, just found your first built journey, ( wiring in the reverse camera) yes hooray ahhhhh, stay happy, Grandpa Pete ❤️🙏
Hi! We’re trying our best 😀
What a beautiful build! And I just loved the tour, I found it quite relaxing, and you explained everything at such a nice pace :) Can't wait to watch more of your videos!
Thank you so much, very kind of you. We look forward to sharing more with you 😊
Lovely!! Excellent design, great couple. So organized and perfect layout. So much love and intelligence went into every little feature. Awesome 👏🏼
Thanks very much ☺️
This is the most well-done and neatest van build I’ve seen! I love the layout and especially the stove AND oven!
Thanks! We love the stove and oven too, makes it really homely 😁
You are correct on placement of carbon monoxide detector. I was thinking of a propane leak detector often combined with carbon monoxide. Propane is heavier than air and the detector for that should be no higher than your pillow.
Aha that explains it, thanks for confirming 😅 We have gas drop outs below the gas appliances meaning any leak will go directly to the outside, we consulted with a professional about the placement for these and got it all checked and signed off after we installed the gas system 🙂
This is one of the most clever designs I’ve seen! I like your closet layout, you can fit so much yet it doesn’t take up much of the bed space.
Thank you 😊 Yeah we didn’t want to give up any bed space, we love our sleep 🤣
This is a super build and excellent presentation. Every other builder should learn from it. Well done, and also for the parts list.
Thank you so much, glad you like it 😊
Adorable couple. Awesome van!
Ah thank you 😊
Such a clever and beautiful buildout. Congratulations, on a job well done.
Thank you 😊
Just Wow! Best layout I’ve ever seen. I liked the kitchen space that spreads into 3 different areas, living space, permanent bed with vast storage space and a huge garage. Electricals and plumbing everything well done neat and tidy. Keep rocking! Cheers :)
Thanks so much! Glad you like it, such lovely comments 😊
Very good van built! Don't own one myself but I love watching these kinds of videos due to my interest in interior design!
Thank you, hope you enjoyed it 🙂
@@TheWholeWorldorNothing I sure did😍👍
I love this one! The best I've seen!
Ah thank you 😊
Great Build....outstanding ideas and craftsmanship!
Thank you ☺️
I love the views that the camera man gives you the details of everything and he does it twice and slow so that you get a good view…. Great job…❤
Great layout and space used. Compact and simple with everything one needs. Well done!
Nice layout. I especially like the wardrobe section…lots of storage.
A security camera seems to be what most forget to install. Its very important
Hopefully we’ll never need it but we didn’t want to take any risks 😅
You's have done an incredable job best of luck with the camper van
Thank you 😊
Absolutely fantastic van build. Great job and happy adventures!!!
Thank you very much 😊
Love it…so neat and very well organized…my fave so far 😘😘😘
Thank you 😊
well done. love the security camera and locks.
Thank you ☺️ security was high up on our priorities with the build
Great layout and good use of space.
Thank you 😊
Nice job, and I love the layout! One of the most well-thought-out conversions I have seen. Thanks for the tour.
Its really nice, clean and very cozy.
Thank you ☺️
*Great van and tour. Had you a lapel mic you wud get a a ton more views. Also you are hands down the number one best looking couple in vanlife.*
Oh stop, you’re making us blush 🤗 We’re gonna work on our equipment setup too 😜
Wow wow that is the BEST van I’ve seen.
So glad I found your channel. Love it 🥰
🙏🏻🇺🇸🎈 D from OKC, USA
Thank you so much, that’s lovely to hear 😊
love the layout wish i put background music in my van tour
Thanks! 😀
Super awesome (and stylish!) design! My favorite part is the "garage" with the separate areas for the water systems and electric. Well done! 👍😃
Thanks! Yeah we tried to design everything as simply as possible including in the back so separating them seemed natural 🤗
I think u done spot on job covered all points
Thank you 😊
Fantastically well thought out layout, and you guys did a great job of explaining the design and reasoning behind it. Look forward to seeing more.
Thank you, glad you like it 😀
Wow guys. Obsessed with watching sprinter van tours and thisnis one of the nicest I've come across. Cant wait to follow your adventures.
Thanks so much, we look forward to sharing them with you 😊
Just ran across your channel and will check it out. Very nice build but very expensive I'm guessing. Top of the line. 👍
Thank you. It’s all relative regards the price! But because we did everything ourselves it’s certainly a fraction of what you’d pay for one ready done. We’re planning on doing a video on costs in the near future so keep an eye out if you’re interested 😀
Love your van, the best layout I've seen. Others have probably mentioned, but your sound needs adjusting. Had to keep turning volume up and down.
Thank you 😊 Yes the sound thing’s been pointed out, not as sensitively as you put it though 😅 don’t think we can adjust it after the fact but we’ll sort it out for the next vid. Cheers 😀
Very clever layout 👏
Thanks 😊
You’re build is inspiring
Thank you 😊
Amazing you guys! Luke and I are in awe that you did all of this yourselves. Can't wait to watch the build videos!!
Ah thank you guys, so glad you like it ☺️
I love this layout.
Great Van! I just could not finish the video cause your music was so much louder then when you guys talked. I kept having to turn the volume up (a lot) every time to talked and turn it down when you didn't. My ears hurt.
Thank you 😊 The sound issue has been raised and answered already in the comments.
I agree, this is a great van. Come finish the video. Lazy me, I learned to mute the video and turn on the closed captioning!
Cheers! 😊
@@takirasharde2318 thats smart! Thanks! I did finish the video and enjoyed the Van Layout! Love the desgin
Well thank you both for making the extra effort 😊 We’re still RUclips newbies and working hard to improve our editing skills.
Super layout!!
Thanks 🤩
simply AMAZING
Thank you! ☺️
Gorgeous build!
Thanks! 😀
This is really well done.
Thanks 🤩
Great design
Thank you 😊
Hi....beautiful little home!
A question. ..do you ever drive with the cupboard doors open so you can see out the back window? I would kind of like to be able to see what's coming behind me. Or do you use the rear camera?
thanks
Hi, thank you very much 🙂
No we don’t tend to drive with those doors open, and we don’t have the rear camera on a switch so that only comes on when we’re reversing. We just use the mirrors which we find absolutely fine.
This is absolutely the best and my most favorite van build I have ever seen! A beautiful layout, creative storage and just all-around well put together. I wouldn't change anything except for the handles on the cupboards by the bed (I would make them recessed) and just add my own decor style. Literally I love this and would base my own van build off of this one. Simply Brilliant. Btw I have watched an unhealthy amount of skoolie and van builds and you guys beat them all. I liked and subscribed I hope you channel grows 😁
Oh thank you, that’s so lovely ☺️ Regards the decor we decided to keep it super minimal so we can add things that we find on our travels when we’re able to! So it’s still a work in progress, but we know not everyone will love it. So glad you enjoyed the tour 😁
@@TheWholeWorldorNothing I def love it!!! It's kind of like your adventure canvas 😀
Yes! Great way to put it. Might even steal that 😜
Solar panels are a bit of a scare. Look it up. Faraday fabric your van please!! Otherwise beautiful use of space!! Love it 😊
Really live your home! Esp the closet! Such clever use of space!
Thank you ☺️
Absolutely love your van! Such a clever layout!! Would love to see a conversion costs video if you're willing to share!
Thanks 🤩 We tracked all the costs so will be doing a video on the costs in the future 😀
Very beautiful.
Thanks 😊
Very well done!
Thank you 😊
Fabulous design!!!!😃👍
Nicely done. 👍
Thanks 😊
Brilliant!!
Thanks! 😀
incredibly neat. much respect
Love this build! Only thing is that your carbon monoxide alarm is too high!
brilliant, you must be very proud? Well done.
Thanks! Yes, we’re really pleased with how it turned out 😀
Gorgeous
Thanks 😊
Excellent.
Cheers! 😊
Very nice van I am going for this lifestyle I am done living in a house
Thank you. There are plenty of people feeling the same at the moment too!
@@TheWholeWorldorNothing I am just tried of having zero freedom and all my money being put into bills every month and not being able to do out
Yeah that’s fair enough. It’s certainly possible to bring your living costs down. Good luck with it all 👍
This is amazing! Such a good job. Hope we can come see it (and you guys!) in person soon! X
Cheers! Yeah we can’t wait till we’re allowed out and about and a meet up is definitely long overdue! We’ll get that sorted when we can X
Absolutely brilliant! Fantastic job!!
Thank you 😊
Very nice conversion. Your music volume is a bit too high from speaking voices.
Thank you. Yeah the music was a mistake in editing which we weren’t able to fix once it was uploaded.
Beautiful van.
Thanks 🤩
Wowza! Very nice
Thanks 🤩
Absolutely fantastic ! Hope that you are still really inlove , small spaces tend to build up tension...... All the best for you in the future ! Klaus
🤣 we’re used to living in small spaces so we don’t anticipate that being an issue. But time will tell! Glad you enjoyed it 🤗
Love this, You both have done an amazing job 👏👏👏....Ive been searching for inspiration trying to get my partner on board to buying a van we could use for extended exploring trips...think Ive found the perfect example ✌😊
Oh wow, thank you 😊. Good luck convincing your partner 😅
Beautiful and impressive! Love it! ❤️
Thank you ☺️
Very nice!
Thanks! 😊
Great video
Thanks! 😊
I would like someone to kit out a campervan for me just like this; but with solar power and electric with fuel option only as last resort.
Sounds great 👍😊
Nice.
Thanks 🤩
Brilliant! Regards from New York!
Thanks! Regards to you too 😀
It looks amazing!!
Thank you ☺️
Incredible job! Fave part is the Corrie mug 🙂. Love the space created by blocking off the cab - but curious to know if you have discovered any disadvantages to creating this separation? I'm wondering if the cab feels cramped and just how easy it is to fit through that hatch in an emergency? You mentioned that you can do it, but it looks like a very tight squeeze from what I can see. Thanks for showing off your beautiful home!
Haha that mug takes pride of place 😂 Honestly we’ve not discovered any negatives with the separating wall. It doesn’t feel cramped in the cab, it’s pretty massive in there anyway. We often use the hatch to jump into the front if it’s raining or something so it’s not too difficult. Maybe we should do a demonstration of that 🤔
You did very nice jobs Iike it
Super 😊👍💪
Thanks 😊
Nice 👍
Thanks 🤩
I'm a new sub. Great van tour.
Thanks and welcome 🤩
Lol I just seen a van tour with a lay out close to this with the window to the front to be able to drive away if it’s raining or emergency which would be what I’d have to have ! And I commented that it was the best lay out but I have to admit I like this one better ! Plus you energy layout if perfectly thought out in case if repairs and but what I like better is the working kitchen ! This is the first I’ve seen with this much room plus it’s still opened up but everything is awesome ! May I ask dod you guys build this or pay to have it done ? I know that class bs in the us is like 200k and no way as close to home feel ! Is this cheap to live this way ? Awesome tour ! Ty for sharing your hone
Haha brilliant, thanks for your kind words, we’re glad you like it.
We did build it ourselves, we’ve got a van build series that we’re still putting out retrospectively at the moment so you can watch the build if you’d like 😀 It’s certainly cheaper than living in a house in our opinion, although we’ve only been in it for around 6 months so far. We are going to be filming a video on costs in the near future as well so please keep an eye out for that too 😊
Thats not only a great video, but a wonderful and well thought out van conversion. Well done guys, hope to see you once again in Spain when we enter the new normal. :)
Thanks! Glad you liked it and we can’t wait to get back over to Spain when we’re able to 🤗
Good morning guys and gals! Are you in the Uk !
Good morning! Yes, we’re in the UK 🙂
Hey guys, just wondering what CCTV you used as I'm looking to install the same on my van build. Many thanks!!!!
Thank you 😊
Who built you van? I love it!!
Yeah, totally subbed. Love the way you blocked the front access to the front, and just the way your van feels like an actual home is really impressive! The accent definitely adds points to the quality of your video. Cheers
Ah thank you, much appreciated 😀
Brilliant! And you name your plants 😂!
Gotta name your plants! How else would they know when you’re talking to them? 😆🤣
@@TheWholeWorldorNothing ROFL, so true!
🤣🤣
Does the toilet smell? Also did you have any building experience before this?
No, with regular emptying the toilet is fine. We have the fan right above it too so that removes any odours midway, if you get what I mean 😂 We didn’t have any building experience of this kind, no. We’ve done bits and pieces of DIY but nothing on this scale 😊
You need to adjust the volume, can hardly hear you
Thanks
Did you guys build it out yourselves or did you have it done?
We did it ourselves. We’re doing a build series here if you want to check it out: ruclips.net/p/PLL9DbeLuDPlR4exckUh85gGV7VmhG0Ldx
I would love too. You guys did a great job, you have a new follower, Thank you for sharing
Ah thank you, we really appreciate it and great to have you on board 😀
Nice set up. The music playing while you are talking is annoying.
Thanks! Noted 🙂

I would not make my van into a house. The van that I'm building as soon as I can find a used one cheap enough will be "mostly for traveling".
A place to sleep, a portable bathroom with a toilet that separates urine from solid waste. some storage. I do not want a sink, or a shower. A portable
stove of some type for cooking outside the van and a table to sit at maybe a microwave if I can use it without a generator or if a Honda 1000 watt is big enough.
I want to sleep in motels mostly with the occasional camp out. Basically a place to nap/sleep while traveling with a toilet for convenance.
The carbon monoxide detector should be closer to the floor.
No that’s incorrect, it’s in the right position. It’s a common misconception unfortunately.
FYI: CO-detector 1m or less above the ground (best near the probable source of CO) - fire/smoke alarm under the ceiling
From the relevant guidance on the UK govt website:
in general, carbon monoxide alarms should be positioned at head height, either on a wall or shelf, approximately 1-3 metres away from a potential source of carbon monoxide.
@@TheWholeWorldorNothing CO builds up from below - you'll suffocate in your bed if CO-alarm in mounted in headheight ...
Do you have a source for what you are saying?
With regards the placement, we followed the manufacturer guidelines on the device we fitted and all official information backs this up, as per the quote in the previous reply from the UK govt website.
With regards to the behaviour of CO, this is from Google Nest’s product info:
There’s a myth that carbon monoxide alarms should be installed lower on the wall because carbon monoxide is heavier than air. In fact, carbon monoxide is slightly lighter than air and diffuses evenly throughout the room.
