This is what I thought you were going to feature, so I was surprised but happy to see Napoli. If you do explore Tarantella, I’d be interested in your thoughts comparing Edward Villela (choreographed on) and Baryshnikov (danced it at the White House). For me, it’s a rare occasion when Baryshnikov’s pure perfection doesn’t match the dance’s exuberance.
Hi! Italian here (though not from any regions that the tarantella is actually from, though I did spend the normal amount of time googling it.) There are actually two versions of the tarantella, the one you described in the video, and also a courtship dance! I think when the actual folk version of tarantella is performed today it is the courtship version, and specifically I believe the courtship tarantella is the Tarantella Napoletana (literally: Tarantella from Naples).
Super Saturday evening. Thank you from Copenhagen!! Of course this is the parade piece which is almost always is performed when foreign dignitaries are entertained by our queen. The performers here were all primary dances and most of them have grown up with Bournonville. They are honour bound to pull it of like this. You really should visit Copenhagem and also make the guided tour in The Royal Theatre. That would mean that you would also walk on the stage where this Ballet had its premiere in 1842. If you ask friendly in advance and tell about your work and your youtube activities, you might even be invited to visit the ballet behind the stage and meet the some of dancers and see the training. It is worth the try. The Ballet also performs in the new opera house an there are guided tours there too.
Thank you so much we loved reading this!! We would absolutely LOVE to visit Copenhagen one day, sounds like so much fun! ✨👍🏻. Thanks for your tourist tips 😁😁
@@balletreign Yes, there are of course many other things to see and do. But you will have a professional interest. I forgot to mention The Court Theater, which is much smaller and situated in Christiansborg Castle. It is closed at he moment due to renovation. I also forgot to tell about Louise Rasmussen, who was a ballerina at the Royal Theater and who ended up at the wife of King Frederik VII. As you see you do have a profession with perspective, Unfortunately you will not have any chance there as our crown prince is already married, and his son will be too young. Any way, it would be a tough call having to choose between the two of you.
So nice to see a ballet that isn't a Russian slow-motion dirge. The Danish style is brilliant! With that fast footwork it reminds me a bit of the British style. Couple of happy ballets that I'd love to see you review - Graduation Ball, Gala Performance, and The Concert. Oh, and Elite Syncopations.
Regarding ballet dancers not usually flexing their ankles, ballet dancers also have to be careful in putting strain on the back of their ankles as it is quite fragile and easy to injure. Some ballet dancers who did a full-intensity Bollywood dance routine ended up snapping an Achilles’ tendon or both. This is due to a ballet dancer’s shorter Achilles tendon as a lot of their movements involves tiptoe positions.
@@EmL-kg5gn as far as I know, their daily routine of stretching and barre work helps a lot as it gives more stretch resistance to hyperflexion injury. Also, more protein and collagen on the diet can be quite supportive.
My happy ballet is Coppélia for sure. I listen to Swanhilda's first variation and the Mazurka a lot.I've only actually watched the full thing twice. But I've watched the beginning of Act 1 more times than I can count
Happy place ballet for me has always been “Les Patineurs”. I absolutely adore the music and choreography!!! It was my favorite to perform and it’s so underrated.
Haha. "on second thought, you weren't half bad" 😂 an older lady in my home (village setting) used to tell me: "The first boy to ask you to dance at the village fête is who you go home with"... some things changed over the century lol
Thank you so much for this slice of sunshine. I think for me I would go for Giselle - variation with hops on pointe - or grand pas classique, Sylvia Guillem which is jaw droppingly awesome for sheer control
@@balletreign it’s been amazing! I was here last year and this year’a experience is a LOT better. We have classical, pas de deux, character, for sure Bournonville repertoire variation and some mime and Balanchines! Everyday 9:30-5pm and it just pure joy for me mentally, time flies, I felt like it was just the first day of the summer school and we now each student did 5-8 pieces of performances, kinda crazy’
Frederick Ashton's Voices of Spring with Merle Park and Wayne Eagling is exhilarating and also has some audience involvement and the Moszkowski's Waltz is a great whirl to get your blood flowing. So many happy pieces thanks to RUclips.
Whenever I need a spirit lift I tune into The Royal Opera House RUclips channel and watch one of their ballet rehearsals or whatever comes up. Always inspiring and uplifting. Curiously. the bedroom pas de deux from Manon is a favourite happy place. The music is heavenly as are the choreography and dancing. Such an expression of joy, passion and abandon before grim reality sets in. Really, ballet, including your channel, is a happy experience for me.
Love your videos! Your previous video about mass-produced ballet costumes set me wondering if you'd do a video about your favorite costumes, either ones you've worn yourselves, or seen in performances or on film. Or both! Just a thought... Thanks for your insights and efforts!
I think I just found my new favorite ballet and comfort ballet 😊. For years mine has always been the nutcracker. Christmas is my favorite holiday and I also played violin . So as a dancer and musician it holds so many memories as it was my first dance role and first piece I learned
Amazing video as always! My happy ballet is for sure Giselle. Know it seems kind of counter intuitive, but the music is so sweet and reminds me that true love prevails 🥰
This made me so happy! The video randomly popped up on my fyp and this happens to be the exact piece I’m doing for my summer intensive! I have the part where there is 12 consecutive turns from fifth and I’m super nervous… I love this dance so much! ❤
Love the video beautiful ballet Napoli is really fun to watch and I believed to dance to as an Italian I feel involved in this atmosphere the ballet I watch when I want to feel good is “Le palais des cristal” from the Ballet de l’Opera de Paris So colorful, so beautiful choreography from Mr. B and the music from Bizet Is just incredible. @@balletreign why, thank you! The Cheshire cat in the story, in particular, has always intrigued me, and I still sometimes hope to catch a glimpse of it although I’m sure it would never become that careless! 😸 I saw The Caterpillar scene from the Royal Ballet in a promotional RUclips video and just based on that, I bought the DVD right away! In my extremely amateurish opinion, the Alice ballet is a masterpiece. The creation of a ballet from scratch not just including all the choreography, but the music, the costumes, the scenery. It’s almost mind blowing! The country dance in Christopher Wheeldon’s _The Winter’s Tale_ makes me happy in the same way, though very different style. Steven McCrae and Sarah Lamb are great.
I love Tarantella from Balanchine, but I prefer the version with Patricial McBride and Baryshnikov (rather than Villela, sorry). Other happy Ballet for me is Etudes (Harald Lander - music Czerny/Riisager)) or Symphony in C (Balanchine and Bizet for the music). And in contemporary ballet, I saw "Body and Soul" from Crystal Pite at Opéra de Paris, and the last part is absolutely crazy and joyful.
