This was a very satisfying video to watch. I used to only carry mechanical pencils in my bag because I didn't want to deal with broken points and marks in my bags. Once I found out about Blackwing pencils though, i had to change that. I agree with ur point about damaging the pencil and I also don't want to spend the money on a Blackwing point protector, but I did get my buddy to 3D print a couple "caps" for the Blackwings that are modeled after Bic ballpoint pen caps. Even though it does mark the pencils, I can live with that. Cheers!
Cool demonstration of making a new one, I've never done any leather work before but that looks easy enough to try! I bought a couple cheap brass point guards from L'oeil that I've been very happy with. They're super light, tighten down to fit any pencil, and match the brass ferrule of blackwings which is a nice bonus.
Save your money. I have the Blackwing metal point guards in Black, White, Gold and I only use them with Blackwing pencils. I wanted them to prevent lead breaks and prevent being stabbed by a sharp lead. Thought they’d perform perfectly considering I am using with same brand pencils. They’re nice, aesthetically speaking but, they’re constantly coming off. I tried pushing and twisting them on to prevent falling off - but that doesn’t help. They stay on longer when you have them in a tight fitting pencil pouch with some tension on the pencil guard but, pouches that give even just a bit of wiggle room for the pencil to move - the thing comes off. Maybe I should tape them on…but that’s just silly as it defeats the purpose of buying something this nice looking. Just buy something cheap. I will wrap my leads with some washi tape and go back to carrying a pencil sharpener.😊
Very interesting. I bought a Kaweco liliput for my birthday last year and it's been my daily carry, along with a fieldnotes in my back pocket. What's the attraction to using a pencil, is it purely aesthetic? I mostly use pencils at my desk since I have to write a lot of math, so I enjoy using a pen on the go. It's interesting to see someone with opposite tastes. Thanks for all the videos!
Thank you for watching! I love both pens and pencils but something about the pencil feels more natural. The pencils changes as you use it, it requires more attention and maintenance than a pencil feels does and the material is more organic. Just an enjoyable object!
IMO you need a thimble. Should be able to find an old one in a Thrift or antique shop as no one hand sews anymore. Hummm thinking, is there a leather thimble for leather work?
Awesome idea! Have you tried using it with a long point? My main issue with factory-made point protectors is that they don't fit points sharpened with long-point sharpeners or a knif
Waaaaaa, Lucas namechecked me! Yaaaaayyyyy I feel like I've been on the telly now 😂😂
I had no idea point protectors existed, but I now it’s seems like a must have item!! Love the leather ones!
Def must have! Thanks for watching!

Thanks for watching! Someone else was mentioning 3D printed caps, have to get one for my collection!
@@BlankFirstPage You are welcome, always enjoyable. I would offer to see you one, but I feel that it might be quite expensive to send it overseas.
Cottage industry in the making.. I'd buy one
Such a simple but effective idea :)

This is awesome. I just 3D printed my point guards. Same shape as the Blackwing but $0.12 vs $10US for the official ones :)
Nice! Awesome 3D print project!
I want those leather making tools
They are fun to use

Thimble is a good idea. I’ve got pretty chunky fingers so I’ve never found one that fits properly, but thrift store hunting is a good tip!

Yep I only have long points, works well with them!
