- I've been recommended to do a Turkish/Kebab video for a long time and it's about time that I got around to trying Lamb Doner, Chicken Shish and Lamb Shish. I'm in Catford to try out The Real Turkish in the hope that the first Kebab video is a successful one!

I've always felt that kebabs especially lamb doner and shish are underappreciated foods, I wish there were more places like that, proper sit-down restaurants with properly done kebabs
I really agree with this. I didn't want to just do a usual takeaway, I like to find some good places for you all to enjoy with your friends/partners or just by yourself. Cheers.

That looked very appetising, I would of gone all rice, I've never understood chips with kebab, when I holiday'd in Turkey many years ago, I don't even remember seeing chips as such on the restaurant menus, maybe that's my memory! I know when my Mrs asked for some potatoes with her meal, they gave her a washed unpeeled raw potato, that was funny! That looked well worth the money Gary, another interesting vid, keep em coming!
I usually just like to sample the chips but I would say that chips and rice is unnecessary and wouldn't do it unless I was reviewing. Thanks for watching mate!
Evening Gary use to frequent Catford years ago as we had our Companies sports club there. Don't remember the Turkish place. Meal looks tasty. I'm feeling very hungry watching this vlog! Great Value meal.Our sports club is no longer but will have to pay Catford a visit!ove your vlogs can't stop watching them. Thank you Gary

Gary, a tip re the tea strainer (former video) - the sieve is on a swivel, so you hold it it at 45 degrees so that it dangles free, and pour the tea into your cup through it. Then when you return it to an upright position, it swings back over its little tray which catches any remaining drips

I must admit iv found the Turkish and Lebanese amazing with there cooking skills and id chose them every time.

I love these sorts of places. I live near Catford and have eaten here a couple of times. The salad selections are great and fresh too. Excellent value and I like their chilli sauce. I'm a bit of a peasant so I like the meat inside the bread so it soaks up the juices . They are happy to do that if you ask.
I think it's a very good place to go as an alternative to a curry after a sensible evening out. I think it's a solid 9 out of 10. Another outstanding review Gary.

Well Gary, that meal has certainly raised the profile of kebabs to another level in my eyes (and you tummy too ! LOL). Straight away just the visual of that plate looked amazing and they do say you eat with your eyes. Coupled with a lovely restaurant & atmosphere plus and informative server makes it a must visit restaurant. Perfect score and another perfect video. Well done Gary !

Another superb video, the range of different foods you try is excellent. Never seen a plate I've never fancied, about the only thing I don't like is seafood. But if you went for one of those, I'd still watch. Keep up the great work 👍

Watch your channel because I love the different types of food in England and London. Turkish was my favourite, and a dirty kebab after a few beers was a must. Now living in Cambodia so most of these no longer available to me. Keep them coming mate.

By the way, if you're after a spectacular mixed grill, I highly recommend Kervan Kitchen in Brentwood. I mention them specifically as it's the most gourmet style grill I've had yet, despite not being too crazy expensive. In particular their lamb shish is more akin to having big chunks of steak (pink in the middle), and their chicken has extra charcoal flavours. Give it a try!

That looked a really nice dish / meal on a plate. I liked the variety and everything seemed really fresh. Based on your facial expressions, you were clearly impressed as you tried each part of the dish.

Evening Gary,just got home from work and once again a new vid from yourself and Mr Cameraman popped up! Having not eaten yet this has has made my mouth water once again. I lived in Catford for around 15 years ( left there quite a few years ago though) so lovely to see you dining in an area I know well - looked like it was opposite the Town hall but wasn't there when i lived in the area. Got to give YOU a 10/10 for not pouring those 2 sauces over the food - I would have done so once I'd tasted them and sampled how nice they both were. Don't know if I could ever score a kebab a 10/10 (just because I only ever have them after copious amounts of alcohol) - no slight on your judgement, just my ignorance on what a kebab can really be. You also didn't have a nose bleed venturing south east of London so bodes well for your planned trip up Norf!
Haha, got to come down to SE London for a change otherwise people may think I hate the place... Thanks Joe. It was on the main road which was extremely busy. Glad you enjoyed the video, getting ready for the Hawksmoor experience... lol!

I must say growing up in Luton in the 1980's Jimmy Kebabs on the way home after a sat night out at the pub were awesome doner kebabs, but nowadays it all comes seperate and not as a take away kebab wrap which i miss. Had several kebabs in Luton this year and only "fair" a plastic box filled with iceberg lettuce etc and dissapointing

Never been in here, walked past it many times-will have to try it at some point- I remember when last walked past it and saw food being served from the window and thinking if I hadn't of eaten would of gone in there def next time though. + great value for money!
As for the Diet Coke as you prob know that has aspartame in it-which I avoid.

Gary,a belting video 😊 a few notes. Ever since "Diamonds are Forever " the thoughts of flaming shish being used to attack Sean Connery & Jill St John has made the trips to my local kebab shop a bit rare 😢However,that may change 😊The location looked fabulous, from what we saw the decor was very smart. Never been a fan of Donna " K's " but well marinaded chunky lumps of chicken,beef, lamb cooked over coals 😮😊 whats not to 😍 And yours seemed to be on the mark😊A couple of wee things that i feel would have been needed. The salad,served on the side in a bowl, like the fries(were they safe from the sticky fingers of our CTP😮!) The grilled peppers were to the eye so alluring ❤The one thing i found puzzling😮Why didn't you comment on the flatbread?? True it should be served whole, and torn. Not as seemed sliced or cut,but an essential to scoop a mixture of delicious taste and texture from plate to pallet 😊Price wise. Under a score😊result ( even with a tip😊)bargain Keep up the pace and top content 😊Cheers Allan&Family
In all honesty Allan, I was so pre-occupied with everything else that I completely forgot about the flatbread haha. The chips were safe from CTP but on this occasion, he was more than entitled as there was loads to eat! Thanks for watching, hope you're well.

If ever you are around Arsenal stadium make a visit to Crystal's on Holloway Road just up from Nags Head on the right. Almost opposite Odeon cinema. Its a small Turkish restaurant . Try the lamb doner. You will NOT be disappointed.

Looked really good, in eastern Europe I came across a Turkish cafe and they had the most amazing sweets, to be honest as an ex professional chef I think I would struggle to replicate what they made and the Chef they had was younger than me, Turkish food is on a whole different level.
I absolutely adore Turkish food. It's one of my favourites for sure!

Been there many times as used to live in catford, I worked for council across the road lol, very nice and convenient for lunch. Try the wings further down at chick chicken, best ive ever had 👍
