    About "Hofstra University Pride Football"
This is going to be a 4 part series about how TV changed college football over the last 70 years. In this final episode I'm going to cover how the 1984 Supreme Court ruling led to more college football on TV and to more colleges changing conferences and new ones forming. The 1996 realignment in college sports was one of the biggest shake-ups in college sports history.

10:23 A really big thing that happened around this time that gets glossed over in this video is SMU getting the NCAA death penalty for repeat violations during the '80s (a decade where they were actually one of the prominent teams in their conference). This situation contributed quite strongly to the fall of the SWC. At this time, SMU isn't even in a power conference.

How incredibly fitting an episode for what's taking place currently. My grandad talked about all of this a LOT in the early to mid 90s. He said the ruling in 84 and then the conferences eating the independents wasn't good long term and that the conferences would eventually have to merge like big businesses within capitalism; if you're not growing, you're dying. And he didn't live to see today but he was 100 % correct. These conferences will eventually overthrow the NCAA, eat one another, and become a new NCAA but under a different disguise.

I remember abc with Keith Jackson Notre Dame and Michigan St. Tie 1966 and UCLA beating Michigan St. Rose bowl Curt Gowey.

One correction - Baylor is not a public school; it's a private, Baptist university. When Arkansas left the SWC that left Texas, Texas A&M and Texas Tech as the public schools.
