I've had my dbxl-e 2.0 for 2 years now. In my experience, the stock steering servo is trash, it lasted maybe a week. I now have an agfrc 78 kg servo at 8.4v with a claimed torque of 1084 oz-in. The front, middle and rear diffs are all aluminum, the rear stock plastic one go boom. I have the 2" dgi extenders. The original esc was trash from the factory, never did work right. I've had the hobbywing max 5, it quit after 8 mos. Then I got the xlx2, the 1st one lasted less than a battery pack. The negative wire came loose from the pcb board on the esc. The 2nd one did the exact same thing. All warranty claims and the 3rd one, I cut a small piece of cardboard with a tight fit behind the wires on the esc and then zip tied it around the fan shroud. That was a little over a year ago and the 3rd xlx2 has held up. But I have gone through a few motors. I've also done other upgrades. This is a heavy rc and if you want performance out of it, you're going to have to be willing to spend the money. If you want just ho hum performance, stay stock. I'm thinking about getting the max 4 and motor combo and gear it up and see if I can hit 80-90 mph with it. I've only managed 65-70 mph so far. Although I have seen videos of it, I will tell you from personal experience, this 5th scale rc will take your feet out from under you if you happen to hit your self.
@@midwestern_rc Sorry, you do not have it. I just got mine and followed almost all your great advice. I did do the DGI 1" hex extenders, and I got the 8S Octcast Dboots Backflips like yours. Issue is I cannot get the DGI lugs to screw close enough to the tire to tighten. Stops maybe 2-4mm. Does not matter if you got 2" over 1" on side to put the tire on will be the same. How did you get the DGI lugs to tighten down? I do not want to grind the hex. Did you use washers? If so, what did you do? Thx
I have had my dbxle 2.0 for 2 years now and have not had any major issues with it whatsoever. The only thing that went wrong was a motor bearing. Horizon Hobby sent me a complete motor under warranty. I run it at least once a week, if not more. My choice of batteries is the Zeee lipo 7200 mah 4s hard packs. After 2 years of weekly running, I still get 6900 mah of capacity out of them. The only upgrade that i have done other than tires is I bought a second stock servo and the twin servo steering kit. This setup has more than enough power to turn any tire.
@Midwestern_RC The front and rear diffs are still stock weights. I have changed the center diff to 500,000 weight diff fluid. I also forgot to mention that one other upgrade that I have done is changed all the bearings to fast eddy bearings as I destroyed the stock bearings within like 3 packs as I was running on the beach at the time not realizing what the sand was doing to the bearings until it was too late. So far, the fast eddy bearings have been great.
I have a 5ive T myself and my thing is DO NOT go cheap on aftermarket parts with RCs this big. It will NOT last. If you are like "holy crap thats expensive" then you are doing it right. The crap "upgrades" are actually a downgrade. My 5T is my favorite RC and this is coming from a guy who said a 1/6 Super Rock Rey (which i have three of mind you) is enough. Larger scale RCs are built better and often a lot more durable than someone would think it is. 100% recommend anyone getting a true 1/5 scale. The Outcast 8s (which i also have) and Kraton 8s are not 1/5 scale even though they advertise them as such. Barely 1/6 scale if not for the length of the A-arms.
Very good and fair review! love it. I am looking in to a DBXL-E also when I chanced upon your channel. Love the content and advice. 1/5 is expensive not to mention the cost of 2 or 3 sets of 4sx2 batteries. thanks for your comments, it has helped me more in the decision making process than several other reviews.
Thunder RC bashes the shit out of this car! Everyone else kind of just farts around lol. With that said I've seen some killer videos with this rig that still make me want one. You kind of just have to know what your getting. This was a great video and I appreciate it. I own an Xmaxx and Kraton 8s and want to add this to my fleet. Every car needs upgrades lets be honest. I like the honesty from this video. Great content keep it coming!
If you’re experience with the Kraton and Xmaxx I think this would be the perfect vehicle for ya to add to the fleet 😎 and you can swap the Kraton wheels on after getting the wheel extenders and really enjoy this thing!
I have this truck and love it. The only upgrades I put into it was castle 1100kv motor and monster esc, 1 inch wheel extenders, thicker center diff and front and rear diff fluid, stronger steering servo, stronger wheel and tire combo, larger battery packs. Running 13 tooth pinion on the 1100kv motor but I also have 15, 16 and 18 tooth pinions.
Yup. I have an XRT. I don't beat it up too badly, but I have landed upside down a few times. The only thing I've broken after like 15 battery packs is the wing mount. And it took me a while to do it. Thanks for the video. I've spent more money in my Arrma 8s trucks than what you mentioned here 😅
Stock servo is definitely the first upgrade I’d recommend, it’s weak-slow-junk, and it runs 8.4 out of the box, bearings be the next due to mine blew in the diffs and destroyed the housings which Amain took care of me being right after I bought it but I did upgrade to fast eddy bearings and aluminum housings by FID, pinion gears should be high quality-had one I just got off the shelf at the hobby store and was eaten up pretty bad due to the flex is in the motor mounts which would be another good upgrade to do sooner than later, and last make sure everything is tight and has lock tight-read that before I bought mine and sure enough a lot of things were loose. But I love mine and had it for 2 years or so now. Anyone scared to break a big car but wants a big car could go with a SCX6, fun rock crawler but with the 2 speed trans it’s pretty quick too on 4S. 😁
Yeah I sold my DBXLE since this video. Got into RC carpet racing and don’t do videos on it cuz that shit suckssss the fun out of it haha. I always wanted to try my SCX6 on 4S tho. You never had any issues!?

Never driven a 5T tbh. Being honest the DBXLE needs a LOT of upgrades to be fun. Initially it’s like wow it’s so big this is cool. Then you realize how slow it is and you have to upgrade so much to make it durable and parts are SO expensive.
Dude if you’re not a hard basher I think you would really enjoy this. Definitely don’t need the max 5 upgrade. I would still do the DGI wheel extenders and run Arrma 8S wheels. And then just leave it as is. My turnbuckles broke on a pretty big jump so mild to medium bashing you’ll be set 😎
I just ordered one and get it May 22. I like your upgrades and may look into the turnbuckles and yes, Vitavon is expensive, but it looks cool. ;) I spent 2300 bucks on my SCX6 Honcho with Vitavon. @@midwestern_rc I’m in the same predicament, mostly grass fields. I’m glad I asked because I was gonna buy the Losi for grass. What do you think would be better for racing around on grass?
@@i4nic256 dude Kraton 8S no doubt. I would say the XRT but I had a lot of issues with parts breaking and then waiting 4-6 WEEKS for the parts to be back in stock. Hardcore bashing you might need to upgrade the chassis
Full disclosure I just sold mine a few days ago. When they break its so expensive to fix and honestly the speed and acceleration isn’t there for me and I don’t wanna throw 500+$ into it just so I can go faster (which you will for sure need to drop another 400-700$ in drivetrain upgrades to be able to handle the power). Also I really only have grass near me. I had one dirt construction site I could goto and it was SO much more fun in dirt but they finished construction and I can’t find another dirt spot.
Great video. As much as I enjoy seeing the full Vivaton/Max4/12S builds of the DBXL-E 2.0, I've been wondering how much performance and reliability you can get out of a modest build that gets it into the ballpark of fun without having to double or triple the investment into this buggy! Seems like you have found that point, or at least a good starting point. For me 1/5, in the form of a Baja 5B Flux, has been more of a novelty to take out for a drive once in a while, not so much an everyday get crazy kind of bash machine. Been thinking about getting a DBXL-E 2.0 for some time now, but it is still going to be quite an expense, even with just modest upgrades, for another novelty RC. I saw your comment that you already moved-on from this RC...so maybe that 16 tooth wasn't quite enough after-all!

@@i4nic256 honestly it really just came down to the thing was boring on grass. It was a RIOT to drive in dirt. But being in the Midwest I basically only have grass to use it on. I did have a bad ass construction site to tear it up with all my bashers. But they finished the construction and now it’s a car dealership. Same reason I sold my SBR.
Plus the new Kraton 8S V2 is a dope machine! They need a few tweaks out of the box but mild bashing they can handle a lot. Medium bashing if you land well you won’t have much issues. Hardcore bashing you might need to upgrade the chassis
I'm stuck between this and the xrt 8s......money isn't an issue for me but it's my first rc car I want to just drive it fast going off road
I would go with the XRT man. Cheaper to fix. More durable. Fun factor is better box stock. Great aftermarket support.
Crap, I’ll have 3 grand in one of these getting it the way I want it, VESLA 5 all the way
Yeah I’ve sold mine since making this video. The vesla seems super legit though
🤩🤩🤩👍👍👍🥳🥳🇹🇭✅
I can get one for 700 in a box nee so debating on pulling the trigger since they 1200 new
Full disclosure I just sold mine a few days ago.
@@midwestern_rc well thats a no for me then for that get a 8s outcast and have as much fun as u want thanks for the advice
@@angelteamnolimit624 love my 8S outcast. I’ve got a bunch of videos on that thing. SO much more fun.
Yeah I don’t miss it either. It was kinda fun for a bit. Then just lost interest and didn’t wanna pour a ton of money in it
Hi check out tye Rovan D5 and the 30 degree north buggy
@@midwestern_rcso you got rid of the Dbxle? Why? What do you enjoy more now on a big scale RC?
@@3SonsRC they get boring really quick, expensive when they break or need an upgrade, and feel very slow after a few packs. The new Kraton 8S EXB is very solid right out of the box
@@midwestern_rc I hear ya, I already have a Electric Losi 5ive T, Outcast and Kraton 8s + Xmaxx M2Cified all with Upgraded Electricronics, so I got the dbxle by cheap trade and has new parts to go in, DGI Bulkheads, Diff cases, Turnbuckles, 1&2" Extenders and Braces.... All new and ready to go in. I have my other rigs for big Sender stuff.... Was figuring Dbxle for Better land control (longer than Kraton) big rips, and mild sends.... Under 100ft, have other rigs for big stuff.
If I see absolutely no purpose and enjoyment for what I want it to be, then I can sell it for cash or use that for a 5ive B Electric build.... Or just say.... Goodbye because I have plenty of RC
Thank you
You're welcome
