Growing up in the northernmost parts of Greenland we could sit in my dads boat listening to them below us - There have never been incidents there, but it has been observed that young killerwhales can be stressed by submarines, and a lot of traffic in the waters.
I don't see a problem with this whatsoever. I also find it funny that people are going-'out of their'-way to claim that these orcas are not trying to attack when it seems quite evident that they have realized that there is a problem with humans and are fixing it.
These are not dumb animals. They recognize boats as competition for their food source. They may be trying to drive the boat away from a school of fish that they know are there that the humans don't know are there and the humans are interfering with the whales long-term plans. Whales are smart they do have long-term plans on what they're eating for dinner the next day or they wouldn't be migrating.
More likely they are retaliating against boats because of the many times they are hit by boats . As the population of both groups increase, whale strikes will become more common. Whales are not happy.
What teens and they aren't by Florida their by Spain so whatever their doing has something to do with someone in those areas not anything to do with Florida otherwise they'd be by coat of Florida
As people who study and work with orcas would attest; do not underestimate their intelligence. They do have a sort of culture and fads that are taught in spread amongst members but here seems like eliminating competition for food sources. At least take it as an intelligent harbinger of environmental damage and pressure
They are so cool and incredibly smart! I saw a story about how some orcas started wearing a dead fish on their head like a hat for no obvious reason, and then a ton of them were doing it, like a fashion trend!
Sure there’s no proof that it’s eliminating competition for food sources. But as someone who lives in gibraltar I can attest that our fish communities are radically decreasing due to spanish overfishing . Especially our tuna’s. Also a lot of the yachts in that area are there precisely to line fish the tuna during the open season for tuna fishing. So yeah, I’m gonna go with that they are eliminating competition because there are much much less tuna than there were.
New Yorkers have long-term plans when they are hunting food which is every day. The orcas will follow and will Corral a school of fish. The boats might be heading for the school of fish that the orcas are stalking and they are trying to push the boat onto another course or stop them from interfering with their dinner. Orcas plan ahead they know what they're eating in 3 days from now do you
No. These boats, sailboats, are NOT taking fish. Or only rarely. And in this area NO one is dragging a fishing line. Fishing boats are different. If the orcas are smart enough to bite off rudders and do other damage to the sailboats, they are smart enough to know the difference between fishing boats and sailboats. Sailboats don't travel very fast. Running their engines (engines) may get them to 6 or 7 knots. A fast catamaran or trimaran (a cruiser, not a racer) may get to 10 - 12 knots while sailing. Fishing boats will travel 15 knots and higher. These sailboats are being targeted by this ONE pod for some reason. But not for fishing competition.

Orcas are friendly intelligent and social. If they are attacking boats, they are retaliating against aggression and abuse from Spanish and Moroccan sailors. I have lived and sailed around orcas my whole life. I have pet them when they pulled up alongside a small fishing boat. They are not aggressive, and have even been known to save people from drowning. Only abused captive orcas have ever turned into human-killers. Investigate the sailors and the local sailing community. They are the problem, not the orcas.
Probably because the cannot sink the bigger ships doing the real damages that they go after the smaller ones? Very intense traffic in this part of the Mediterranean sea / Atlantic ocean...
I think we should give these orcas credit for understanding that these boats and humans are poisoning their environment with garbage and more. I think it’s a retaliation. They know very well that it doesn’t help them to have humans on the waters surface so I give the credit to the orcas and they tooare revolting against our environmental negligence

It wasn't a yacht, it was a fishing trawler. The name of the Orca was Gladys. And the reason those Orcas don't mess with trawlers is they are made of metal, and their occupants don't mess around.
These orcas are supremely intelligent they are just sick and tired of both traffic in their home. So many whales of different species are killed by both strikes. The ocean belongs to them not to boaters. The orcas are demanding their respect.

Then why is it only one pod doing this behavior?
More likely they are retaliating against boats because of the many times they are hit by boats . As the population of both groups increase, whale strikes will become more common. Whales are not happy.

As people who study and work with orcas would attest; do not underestimate their intelligence. They do have a sort of culture and fads that are taught in spread amongst members but here seems like eliminating competition for food sources. At least take it as an intelligent harbinger of environmental damage and pressure
So you’re saying these are TikTok Orcas
The sailboats aren't competition for their food source and there's no proof that is their reasoning behind their actions.
Orcas are the king of the ocean they can take on anything except super big cruise boats
Maybe military ships
@@CL-333the military also uses sonar that impacts on how they communicate… I believe sonar is a possible reason for beached whales 😢

Are you sure they're not taking out their competitors for food?
As in, that's how they view the boats?
Makes total sense to me.
@@rickkwitkoski1976 At last a voice of reason among these Orca sycophants.

They are going to need a bigger boat
Shamu drives the boat chief

Wrong chief. Those Orca's don't want a bigger boat to play with, because they could not do squat to it.
It started from the orca and big FISHING ships war somewhere near Spain. I saw a documentary about it which has disappeared from RUclips.
Their doing that because one of those yachts years ago almost killed their grandmother orca and severely hurt her so now they have it out for those boats
It wasn't a yacht, it was a fishing trawler. The name of the Orca was Gladys. And the reason those Orcas don't mess with trawlers is they are made of metal, and their occupants don't mess around.
Japan: Fuh-Q whale! and fuh-Q Dolphin!

I wonder if they had their depth sounder on and generators and engines running. Sam Holmes on YuoTube went through their last summer on a 28 ft sailboat and he turned off all his electronics and and anything else that would make noise in the water. His theory was the sonar from depth sounders could be irritating them. He didn’t see a single Orca. Maybe just coincidence, but something to think about.
plotter is always wiring with deepth sounder as instruments, powering off deepth sounder is the key

Pfft they definitely know what they are doing. We know absolutely nothing about the true extent of mammal intelligence
Yes, the scientists have their own agenda and that is why they are lying to the public
Because they witness fishing boats stealing all THEIR fish, and they now associate all boats as fishing boats. I honestly don't they they are just being "playful", they know what they are doing. Humans need to stop stealing all their food!!
I see what you're saying, but fish are their own people too, they don't belong to the orcas.
Look at the rudders, they look like inverted orca dorsal fins. I think the orcas are trying to "right'' an overturned orca.

Orcas be all, "Get off my lawn!"
All the comments speculating on why this happening and celebrating the orcas's actions as justified. I think the why is irrelevant. If one is an animal lover, as I am, it's a mistake to celebrate this. It's very bad news for this pod. When dangerous animals come into conflict with humans, they lose, every time. As much as I admire Orcas, if one was attacking my boat, I would use any and all means to defend it, including lethal means. Disagree? Again, irrelevant, the point is it will happen. @@DonnaBoykin Yes, you said what you said, duh. I too am an animal advocate, which is clear from my original comment. Being an animal advocate is not mutually exclusive with being willing to defend yourself from an attack by a dangerous animal. That is not a dumb thing, it's self preservation. What is dumb is not defending yourself against an attacking animal because you feel sorry for the animal or feel like it is 'justified' in some manner in attacking you because we as humans generally deserve it. All that said, you are simply wrong that Orcas status as endangered or protected is at all relevant in a self defense situation and you did not even bother to counter that with any more of an argument than "I make it my business to know these things".
