    One thing I liked better about raging blast was how they handled ultimate finishers. If you killed an opponent with a beam ultimate, like a kamehameha or final flash, the opponent would just vanish like they were disintegrated. In sparking zero, the character just flies away like every other recent dragon ball game. Raging blast made ultimates feel super powerful like they are in the show.

    Raging Blast games allowed you to customize Super Attacks, which resulted in a possibility of having 4 full-fledged Supers, not just 2 + 2 skills. Also, a lot of Supers were activated as a countes or a QTE combos, which were a great addition to the actual combos.

    Raging Blast was the first game in the series that I played, and it might just be due to my stronger familiarity with it, but I actually feel like some of the the mechanics in that game are smoother and more responsive. Especially movement. With it being an arena fighter, movement is really important, and I always felt like I could confidently move around to retreat or flank my opponent in Raging Blast, whereas in Sparking Zero I often feel like I'm just kind of flailing around.
    Also, I can understand Raging Blast's pace feeling bad if you're coming from BT3, but I never felt like those games were too slow when I was playing them, and I honestly feel like Sparking Zero is needlessly fast paced. It might just be because I'm not a huge fighting game person, but I prefer the slightly more methodical feel of Raging Blast. I feel like I'm more able to queue up every next input in my head and flow a string of combos, whereas in Sparking Zero I spend so much time just desperately trying to keep up with everything blitzing all over the screen that I'm just happy to land a super attack half the time.
    I also VASTLY prefer Raging Blast's approach to different versions of characters; where you can customize a character's moveset to reflect different sagas/eras, or create a hybrid of them. You can have four different super attacks at once, which does so much to help with variety. I absolutely hate having like 20 versions of Goku in Sparking Zero. Raging Blast has one, and it covers everything from the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai to the end of the Buu Saga. Having every transformation be an individually selectable character rather than a sub-menu is NIGHTMARISHLY disorganized and inefficient. For a game that puts so much emphasis on its roster, its character select screen feels like an afterthought and is such a chore to use.
    The additional singleplayer modes in Raging Blast also went a long way for me. I'm not all that interested in competitive online multiplayer. I'd rather just have a big sandbox to use the characters in. If you don't count the Custom Battle mode (which I found incredibly disappointing by not being able to write your own dialogue) then Sparking Zero is very bare bones. I don't care about a story mode. If I wanted to play through the story I'd play Kakarot, or I'd just watch the show. Budokai 1 came out over 20 years ago. I don't need to fight Raditz again. I'd rather have new experiences with all my favorite characters from this huge roster. Galaxy Mode in RB2 wasn't great, but I like the concept of it a lot more than I do another goddamn story mode.

      This is probably the best explanation for why someone would prefer Raging Blast over Tenkaichi I've heard, so I respect your opinion. But I have to disagree. As someone who started with BT2 & 3, I found personally RB1 & 2 to be a substantial downgrade. The lack of GT and OG DB characters was enough to turn me off when I was younger, but it's more than just that.
      In my opinion, the speed of the Tenkaichi games was kind of the point. The breakneck pace of everything when it came to movement, offensive, and defensive options gave the game a level of intensity that Raging Blast was never able to match. Tenkaichi felt like a full sprint, whereas Raging Blast was more like a light jog. The reduced movement speed combined with the larger stages makes the game too slow for me. Learning how to cancel my dashes in order to optimize my movement was so rewarding in Tenkaichi because there's a huge difference between a player who's mastered the movement and a player who hasn't. Some of the advanced tech is really hard to pull off.
      I didn't like how they changed the controls, and since there was no way to remap buttons, you were just stuck with them. This felt awkward after years of playing with the classic controls. Using the stick to use super moves also felt really lame in comparison to the button inputs in Tenkaichi. It was less tactile and satisfying. It was also too easy to have your finger accidentally slip and use the wrong move.
      I felt like Raging Blast dumbed down the gameplay and removed too many features.
      Stage destruction was completely removed. Giants were removed. Lock-on was removed. Blast stocks were removed, and everything was now balanced based on Ki, leading to insane super attacks and ultimate spam. The A.I. is noticeably easier compared to BT3, even when using the max computer capsule. The new additions didn't add any real depth and felt undercooked. While Tenkaichi has less polished mechanics on a technical level, the little nuances and glitches that they overlooked allowed the community to develop fun and interesting tech and play the game in ways the developers couldn't have thought of.
      The combo system was changed to a cancel-based system rather than the old system of characters having different rush chains. Wasn't a fan. The combos were more unique and varied in Tenkaichi. Just look up combo videos from BT3 compared to Raging Blast. It's no comparison, really. Raging Blast combos are boring. The game modes were also lacking. The World Tournament was the biggest offender, with them removing the ring-outs. Completely negated the entire point of the mode.
      Personally, I MUCH prefer having different versions of each character as needed, as it allows players to learn specifically what they're going up against with each version.
      To illustrate my point, in BT3 and Sparking Zero, Goku (Early) has Kaioken as a skill, which is extremely dangerous. This means that when I'm fighting this version of Goku, I know from the get-go that I need to watch his Blast Stock gauge and prepare to interrupt him if he attempts to activate it. However, if my opponent is Goku (Mid) I know that he does not have this ability, so I can relax a bit. Another example: SSJ Goku (Mid) has a skill that immediately powers him up to max. Very dangerous, have to watch out for that. SSJ Goku (End) doesn't have it, trading it for a skill that buffs his stats. While having different version of characters may seem like bloat, it allows for extra strategy and rewards game knowledge. In Raging Blast, you can pick whatever moves you want, so that preemptive thought process is just gone. I have to react to everything as it happens in-game instead of being able to strategize and plan around a character's moveset.
      To you, this is more efficient and refined. To me, it feels like it oversimplifies to the point of reducing complexity. The one saving grace about that system is that it lets you mix and match costumes. Using SSJ3 Goku with the Yardrat outfit is pretty cool.
      There are things the Raging Blast games did very well, and you're entitled to your opinion. I have a lot of nostalgia for them myself. But I wasn't shocked when RB2 never got a sequel. The skill gap is too small, which hurts the staying power and replayability. There isn't as much to really dig into, less to learn and discover. But if you want a simpler game that you can kick back and relax with, then Raging Blast is great.

      @@jHounder You said all what i wanted to say 🙏 we can see a true Tenkaichi fan here, i was also disappointed by the combo in raging blast 2 😅.. if you try Square and Triangle (the multiple kick in the head) the opponent will be able to block your next move if you try to continue with Square.., that's why i prefer Tenkaichi 3, when you take Goku mid in Tenkaichi 3 and try Square and Triangle, Goku will give some kick in the head of the opponent and you will be able to continue your combo with Square 😁, that's also why i really love Tenkaichi 3, and hate raging blast 1 & 2.. I disagree. Raging blast changed the controls for no reason at all and was just annoying. I’m glad sparking zero went back to the original tenkaichi series controls.

      @@jHounder So this very much says more about my distaste for fighting games; coming at it as more of a player of RPGs and action-adventure games, but I do not enjoy needing to learn incredibly intricate and specific game mechanics. Combo chains, specific situational inputs, fucking unintentional quirks and glitches that just happen to be there. That makes me put down a game.
      I want the complexity to come from things like managing positioning and distance, knowing when to attack, defend, and retreat, resource management, and reacting to unpredictability rather than going through rehearsed rhythms and learning hundreds of specific combo strings. I want the fundamental tools I have to interact with the game to be simple and straightforward, but to have a ton of potential in how I can use them to express myself.
      I like that you don't know what a character you're facing can do right away. I like having to react on the fly and in the moment, rather than referencing a mental encyclopedia and doing the same dance I've practiced ad nauseam. Once I know what everyone can do and exactly how to handle them, that's when I get bored. That's the same reason I could never get into speedrunning. Doing the same thing over and over and over trying to perfect it. That's hell to me, man. I want to be faced with new, unpredictable challenges and use creative problem solving to face them.
      Raging Blast was the first DBZ game I played that made me feel like I was a character in the show and like I could use their powers and moveset to their full potential, without being limited by the game's scope or gatekept in the form of game mechanics akin to learning a new language. It just felt like a natural extension of myself. Like the way I got better at the game was by learning how to effectively use the tools at my disposal; not by learning what the tools even are in the first place. To me, Sparking Zero feels needlessly obtuse in comparison. I feel like the game's mechanics are challenging me more than the fights themselves are. These games aren't meant to be balanced, competitive or highly technical. That's what games like FighterZ are for. The Xenoverse games and Kakarot were too shallow for me, but Raging Blast hit just the right sweet spot.

My childhood was pretty much school, Dragon Ball Kai and then my little brother and I would boot up Raging Blast 2 and replay the fights from that episode and then have a few random fun ones. Fast forward to today, I've always stuck with the Dragon Ball franchise unlike my little brother and a few days before launch he comes up to me and asks what this new Sparking Zero is and I told him and now he's going back through all of the anime and is playing the new game alongside myself. Really funny how this new game is making us both really nostalgic about Raging Blast and the shows itself overall.

    Really bothers me when people are like "Oh my God, its been so long! Sparking Zero is the first tenkaichi game since Tenkaichi 3!" No dude... Raging Blast 1+2 definitely deserve recognition. 4 super attacks (up down left right on right stick made moves so easy to do it was awesome), signature skills with all of them being unique for each character, and the awesome art design. Before Sparking, I'd say that Raging Blast 1 is easily the best looking Dragon Ball game of all time. Raging Blast 2 looks a little silly in terms of visuals but easily makes up for it with the gameplay and roster.

    Sparking Zero as a whole is a massive success, and I couldn’t be happier with my experience playing it. That being said, the character selection menu kinda sucks. This is prolly the most amount of nitpicking, but BT3 character selection menu to me was more exciting, and less intrusive. I think the biggest aspect to this is that in BT3 if you wanted to start transformed, you’d select a sub-character underneath the base form of that character. Whereas in Sparking Zero (in the menu), every form is its own character, and to me, it just seems like it was Bandai’s way of padding the list.

    what's also good about raing blast 2, it had all the members of cooler's armored squad, Hatchiyack and Tarble as characters. I hope they are added to sparking zero

    My favorite thing about the raging blast games was how transformations were different for characters depending on the outfit. If you went super saiyan in gokus outfit from the frieza saga, your hair would look like it did in the frieza saga compared to the more polished super saiyan from later on. I also loved how if you transformed as trunks with a ponytail to ssj grade 3, then went back to base, you would not go back to the ponytail (unlike sparking zero). The attention to detail was just so beautiful in RB.

    I love Dragon Ball Sparking Zero But it would be so hard to convince me that SZ combat system is better than RB 2, the combos are also way more vast and pulished in RB 2 than SZ, on SZ if you control one character's combos, then you will know it for the rest of the cast, I was hoping they would do a mixture between RB 2 combat system and tenkaichi 3, but SZ is 90% the same tenkaichi 3 combat system, it does not have a meaningful change on it

    • @EternalDahaka
      @EternalDahaka 26 дней назад +1

      Raging Blast's 2's combo system is so good I was really hoping they'd just copy it and keep BT3's movement and defense systems.
      They could have even just added a handful more followups chains/branches that could loop back into rushes for a simple approximation. So many things they could have done with them but they didn't do anything. Basically no one uses the followups in BT or SZ because, as they are, they're too predictable and functionally combo enders.
      Letting every character constantly recycle their rush strings off everything was my major complaint with the BT series' combo system, and RB was able to address that by limiting that with cancels. In RB2 that forced creative use of its followups and cancels to use more rush chains.

    • @benedyheredia617
      @benedyheredia617 26 дней назад

      @@EternalDahaka You are completely right, that recycling combo thing they have been doing on all the BT/Sparking Series is something that I have always frowned upon, and the fact they didn't change it a bit in 17 years, and that they could easily copy the wonderful combo system we had on RB 2 disappoints me a lot.

    One thing that I don't like about Sparking Zero is the camera movement for the mini cut scenes, like with the super attacks. It's that quick, jittery, ADHD filled movement. Like it was made for some braindead tween that has been consumed by tick-tock. The camera can't just take a step back and let the animations play out, which is a shame, because they look really good and I'd like to see them in full.

    Sparking Zero is the actual successor. All Budokai Tenkaichi games were a part of the Sparking series. They just decided to keep the original name now.
    RB was pretty ambitious, though. It tried to evolve the Sparking formula in its own way, and I respect it for that.
