Unrelated to your video, but I remember seeing your post about 4 years ago on Reddit, about one of your first videos, and I've been following ever since. Crazy how far you've come !
After watching your video I finally got this. If I wanted to spend the money and had the space would have gone with Ares or Rogue twin stack, but this will hopefully serve me well. Thanks for the great review as always!
Hey bro so Xmark just released a new half rack I think its over priced at 2,000 bucks but I know they make great equipment way better then most companies expect Roug and a few elite companies but it would be interesting if you could get The company Xmark to let you review it . And also why do most reviewers never review body solid and Xmark is it because they won't let the youtube reviewers review there equipment? Great video as always .
I appreciate the budget options making gym equipment more available to the masses. To be honest, most of the top review guys are constantly drooling over the "top 3" brands: Rogue, REP, and Titan. While build quality and refinement are important, I can appreciate your enthusiasm about it, but it's also good to be realistic. The majority of the fitness community is out here DIY'ing attachments like leg press machines, cables, and storage to save money. I see many people falling into the trap of thinking they need NASA-level quality, machines that will last for five generations, and so on. Most companies, with very few exceptions, get the job done. I'm not saying you shouldn't point out perceived flaws, but sometimes it sounds a bit dramatic, like when you mention a machine being "not as smooth." I do appreciate you mentioning the cable length, especially for the 14% of the population over six feet tall. However, it's not the end of the world-a simple cable extension can fix that for a fraction of the cost.
To be clear there's a clear issue with the cable system causing them to have resistance. It's something that should be and can be fixed. A cable system should be smooth regardless of price. I've used a ton of these systems including cheaper ones without this issue. I've even seen some coming from the same fan ctory (Vesta) and it's the same issue. It's a product of the cable thickness and pulley diameters (there's 3 different diameters being used here). Wynie thought I was too generous with this one and not critical enough. It's a review and these things cost a lot. We should be critical as reviewers so people know what they're getting. I leave the sales pitches to the companies selling this stuff.
@@GlucksGym That's fair. It's also a funny coincidence you mention Vesta-I bought their Smith Machine SM2001 six months ago. While I only have commercial gym experience with cable systems, not with Rogue and other brands, it felt pretty good to me. However, I understand that you try dozens of these machines and equipment and for good reason have a more informed opinion. Again, I appreciate the videos and reviews. I'm always trying to bring my friends and family down to earth when it comes to gym equipment. Some people feel like if they aren't using Rogue water bottles and stickers, their gains aren't coming. And with they economy, sometimes, that $1,000 you save, can help you finish building your home gym.
Very true. People get hooked on brands and develop a loyalty or whatever and it's hard to convince them otherwise. I love Fringe and they've already changed quite a few things I talked to them about on this but I thought for $2500 there were some over sights I thought people should know about.
Another great review and something new to consider. I'm saving up to buy a functional trainer. I've been looking at Jacked up fitness. Would love to see a review on those. Thanks.
I agree with you. I was excited to see another entry into the functional trainer rack combo space, but that depth is a deal breaker for me, along with the lack of height options. My 126 square foot basement limits what I can use. I'm currently using an 80-inch REP PR-5000 short rack with the plate loaded lat/row attachment, and it juuust fits.
Cool review, the FT options continue to grow! It would be cool to get your thoughts on Stray Dogs ATR approach, a little love towards an American made option.
I like the 1:1 ratio, sure it isn't as smooth as other options, but you're getting more weight you paid for to workout with. It would be like me selling a 45-lbs plate, but only allowing you to lift 22.5 pounds of it. Plus, this will work with any rack that is 3" x 3" with 1" holes so a person could choose to make their own Frankenstein power cage with elements from many different companies, which I love. I am sure that something might be better, but I hardly doubt the bigger companies can come even close to that price point. I am curious which other outfits will follow suit and make more improvements.
I would love to know what the reason is for it not being as smooth as Dialed Motion or Rep’s cable systems. I’ve used a few home gym cable systems and experienced exactly what you said in the video. A tiny bit of resistance in the cable. Thought it was so cool you mentioned this! Wish someone could dig deep and find out what the true cause is: Pulley bearings, cable/coating thickness, bushing type, alignment/tolerancing, design, etc.
I believe the primary culprit is the thickness of the cables and the pulley diameters. They're using three different diameter pulleys. This is essentially a rebranded machine and the others suffer from the same thing.
Solid review!! Love the details about some of the cons I didn't see in the "other" guy's video 😉. The lack of a pin slot for the first plate would drive me nuts, and I think a 2:1 ratio plus some plate pins and heavier stack is just a better option since you get the extra cable travel, smoothness, and can still load heavy for pulldowns and rows (so long as the cable itself is also rated to handle heavy weights). I think you should definitely check out the MAXUM Fitness SX2 next, honestly seems like one of the best options I've been able to find with some really interesting and unique features! On paper seems to beat even premium options like Rep Ares/Athena especially for value with all the features and attachments that the MAXUM includes.
Thanks for covering a budget option! Great review. Some of the big time channels (rhymes with poop) forget about the average joe and only review the high end stuff!
When you compared pricing for the Rep and the Dane were you factoring in the included attachments as well like spotter arms, J-cups, extension feet, landmine, etc... and comparing the Rep prices with all those added in as well?
@@PeterKeller247 Any plans on shipping to Europe? The only 3x3 (or 75x75mm) with 1inch holes are rouge and their cheapest with pin/pipe is 2 000 USD with shipping. It must be possible to make a lot of money for anyone that offers a cheap rack to us.

Unfortunately I'm in the EU and don't have the money to purchase even a barbell and a set of plates. So there's that. But at least it's good to know that there's better priced options out there.
When it comes to pulleys with bearings, I've in the past learned while assembling do not over tighten. It will rob the aluminum pulley a lot of it's natural function. I've always been a tighten for life kind of guy lol.

@@PeterKeller247so just wanting to confirm, I’m almost pulling the trigger on the clear coat pre order. It wouldn’t be due to ship until October or so.. does that mean it would have the updates or should I wait to order if I want the updates? Thank you!
I think this would be a good place to start if you don't have a rack and want a more budget-friendly option with a functional trainer. I'm still not too sure if I would use a functional trainer enough to warrant the cost. Would likely go with Dialed Motion regardless.
Hey Gluck, question for you. I don't see any reviews on Fringe's Osprey Power Cage, but you mentioned the Dane is based on the Osprey. How would you compare the Osprey Rack to the Rep PR-4000? I'm just looking to get a power rack and the Fringe is a lot cheaper in price. Would you recommend it over the PR-4000? They seem very similar on paper from a build perspective. Thanks!
The Osprey is the base rack for the Dane. It's literally the same rack. The Dane is the functional trainer add on, the Osprey is the rack. The Osprey is a 3x3 1" rack so it's technically more like the PR 5000 (3x3 1") rather than the 4000 (3x3 5/8"). Anyway. If you're just comparing uprights, bolts, and crossmembers they're incredibly similar. Near identical quality. Rep has better (and more expensive attachments) but they're swappable between the two as their dims are identical and they're both imported. So use our link and buy whichever you want 😉
Not sure why people overlook the Fringe Sport Osprey. I’m awaiting arrival of my Osprey (47" x 47" x 89") with Mammoth Belt Squat attachment and basic pulley system (didn't need all of the Dane features). Osprey's 11 gauge 3" x 3" uprights with 1" holes, lifetime warranty, and compatibility with other companies' rack attachments seemed like the best value compared to more expensive racks from Rogue, Rep, and Titan.
How is rhe lat pull down with this rack? It looks like when doing lat pull downs they have to be done at a angle since the trolley does not sticks out enough like a regular lat pull down.
Can you review the option to swap out the Dane for a Rogue Functional Trainer? 😂 Kidding aside, Fringe Sport has the best customer service I’ve encountered. I’m slowly adding their stuff to my previously all Rogue line up because of a great first impression.
Honestly, yes. Rep has worse build quality than Rogue and is close enough to the same price now that you literally have to prefer their “features.” This is an actual budget pick. $2500 for everything you get here is a really solid deal.
Please review, also you, the "FORCE USA G3 V2" !!! I think It Is the best buy all in one Power rack Smith machine funcitional trainer...with all option like jammer arms leg ext curl leg Press dip lat pulley row !!!! Absolutely outstanding at incredibile price range you can have All in !!! Please try this !
@@GlucksGym Thanks for the reviews. Does the Vesta also have the cable resistance issue? The Ares (1 or 2.0) are out of my budget but the Dane's cable issue sounds like it would become an annoyance real quick. Any insights or upcoming review appreciated for those of us with tighter wallets.
I'm just wondering how much time you spend setting up racks, cable systems, and other equipment for review! Speaking of rack equipment, any plans on reviewing the new PRx Halo Arms that drop soon? You showed them in your Home Gym Con video and those are at the top of my list but need a review before deciding.
Honestly way too long. Between research, testing, filming, editing, etc these videos take well over 40 hours each. The Halos were interesting. I've been talking to PRx about doing some reviews so we'll see what comes of it but I'll get to get my hands on them if that's what people want to see.
@@GlucksGym look at the bright side for having kids, cheap labor for equipment setup. I bet you could do a video just on tips/tricks on how to assemble a rack, cable machine, etc. Definitely interested in the Halo Arms. Griffin 2.0 has articulating arms but with a lot fewer pin hole settings and you can't lock out the arms laterally. If you get a chance to review the Halos would be helpful if you think they're worth keeping on the rack full time, especially if you've got a cable system such as the Ares 2.0 in place and how that would work.
Could you confirm the height of the uprights vs the ones from rep? I'm considering getting this and putting in the rep center mounted lat pulldown and I'm wondering how it would work.
@@PeterKeller247when will this be released? And when will the red colored Dane be back in stock? Excited to get my first rack and support a Texas brand
Would that low row foot plate fit on the foot of a PR-5000 Athena setup? if so, that would be a reason for me to go Athena for the better build quality. If not, the Dane is way more versatile for the price and quality difference.
@@GlucksGym Thanks Gluck! Might be best to get the Athena and try to get the foot plate for lat and low row until one can upgrade to the back stack attachment.
How is rhe lat pull down with this rack? It looks like when doing lat pull downs they have to be done at a angle since the trolley does not sticks out enough like a regular lat pull down.
How does your wife like the dane? Me and the wife like to work out at same time. Was in market for another squat rack. And the fictional trainer is a bonus. Like all the accessories you could do with the machine. Half cost of rep?
Yes. I mention it and show it on the vid (sorry for the lack of time stamp) but at 6' it's pretty close and I do have to put the seat a little lower than I'd probably like to.
No. I think the issue is the cable thickness and potentially the pulley diameters (they're using 3 different size pulleys). This is from the same factory (IMO) as the Vesta 2:1 which has similar issues with the smoothness of the pull.
Solid overview. I keep wondering how awkward the plate storage is inside the rack. Seems like it would be a huge pia to grab plates from inside with a barbell on the hooks?
Correct. You can put weight horns on it too but with any of these that block the sides it's always a bit awkward to get in/out. Like for a spotter for example.
This review comes across as extremely biased. I bought the Dane and I really dig it. Excellent price to value and 1:1 makes totally sense for most garage gyms
The most important part is that you like it but it's also important to note I'd gain a lot more by saying I like it. Have you used alternative options? I can't get get behind a starting weight that's too heavy for many functional trainer exercises. 10lb weight jumps when adder weights were a cheap and obvious solution. The cable travel was an issue on various exercises and we came across other issues. This is literally a whitelabled Vesta 2 in 1 so we're not reinventing the wheel here but could have been easily tweaked it.
@@GlucksGym okay.. perhaps your critiques are fair when the Dane is being compared H2H to a system 2-3X its cost, but IMO for the overall price, the value is definitely there.. Also their customer support folks were super cool and very helpful... I'm 6ft 1 with long gorilla arms and was definitely worried about limited pull span with the 1:1.. but fortunately I've been able to do a full lat pull down with a full extension of my arms (when I lean back a few degrees)... I'm using it 4-5X a week and I get a killer workout every time. Yes there are a few annoying things for sure like: 1) First 10lbs plate is definitely not 10lbs.. definitely a good bit heavier! 2)The selector pin flailing around (only doing 10lbs) when not inserted is super annoying (I figured out a work around) 3) lat pull down seat locking pin and cable don't fit without banging into each other.. Fixed with a low profile pin 4) feels like i need generate a lot more torque to get the cables into position for some exercises which I is annoying but I also kind of like because it works my core a lot harder trying to keep everything stable It did sort of seem like an OEM / white label product bc I swore I recognized some of components from other brands but it's all good.. my next system will definitely be a Rep but for now this works just fine
@@jonasirw1 are there any cable exercises that you find limited due to the 1:1 ratio and limited cable length? i like both this and the vesta 2n1 - kinda torn between the two.
no wonder his views have gone down he's just trying to be negative to get views but his complaints make no sense it's too heavy for my wife with the weight of the pin well then just do the pin no weights.
They weight stack starts at 15lbs. It is impossible to start at a lower weight because the pin (which we show) is a part of the first plate. I appreciate the watch though. Our views have never been higher 😁
@@GlucksGym i don't understand just do the cable no weight it's really hard complaint to justify sounds like you really had reach for that one... sounds like you can't take criticism but you like to give it even if it's a stretch the weight starts at 15lbs so sad.lol

0:35 you got the rep functional trainer with storage?!?! How is it?
The low row feet plate i believe isnt free. Its additional $119
Low row plate is not included in the base price. It is an additional purchase.
How is rhe lat pull down with this rack? It looks like when doing lat pull downs they have to be done at a angle since the trolley does not sticks out enough like a regular lat pull down.
Does the Dane compete? What options would you like to see us review?
Can you review the option to swap out the Dane for a Rogue Functional Trainer? 😂 Kidding aside, Fringe Sport has the best customer service I’ve encountered. I’m slowly adding their stuff to my previously all Rogue line up because of a great first impression.
Honestly, yes.
Rep has worse build quality than Rogue and is close enough to the same price now that you literally have to prefer their “features.”
This is an actual budget pick.
$2500 for everything you get here is a really solid deal.
I would love to see a review on Jacked up Fitness functional trainers.
Love the information you share. Thank you!
Vesta 2 in 1 for comparison, no smith
Any chance you'll be reviewing Rogue's functional trainer rack FM-6 or FM-HR anytime soon? I'm debating between that and REP's new Aries 2.0.
We'll be reviewing the Ares 2.0, and Rogue Single and Twin stacks 😁
Have you tried lubricating the guide rods? That seems to be a major point of friction on many of the cable systems I've used.
Yes, I lubricate and check over everything we build. The issue is in the design of the cable system itself.
I was between this and the Vesta Fitness version. Have you reviewed that one yet?
We've played around with it. It's basically the same thing with a 2:1 ratio.
@nouseridleft it does. If I were you I'd wait, I feel like we might see a version 2 real quick 😏
Do you know where I could purchase 1” black hardware? I want to retrofit mine w/black hardware instead of the stainless/zinc.
Will you do a review on the Vesta PRO SERIES 2IN1 Ultimate Half Rack Functional Trainer Combo.
@@danielstonebreaker4727 it's literally the same thing just with the pulley ratio changed. They're whitelabled products.
Do you know if the accessories will enter change between the vesta and fringe.
Could you confirm the height of the uprights vs the ones from rep? I'm considering getting this and putting in the rep center mounted lat pulldown and I'm wondering how it would work.
Wish these companies would come out with 80" version for my basement gym
Unfortunately that wouldn't work with the 1:1 ratio on this one because of the cable travel.
It is great other than the 15 pound start weight on the functional trainer
The only downside to me is the cable travel length but having a one to one means they can ship you less weight stack which is why it must be cheaper.
We have a "daisy chain" coming that will extend the effective use length
@@PeterKeller247when will this be released? And when will the red colored Dane be back in stock?
Excited to get my first rack and support a Texas brand
Broooo, Coop literally just dropped this 30 minutes ago! Great review though! Too bad they don't ship to Canada.
They probably have media approved release times. 2 good reviews is better than none!
I'm sure their timing was intentional 😂. Fringe just gave everyone a release date, no restrictions.
Your like me , rep or rogue then 😊
They can you just need to email. I had the belt squat delivered to Canada.
@GlucksGym they just had to give you one restriction. "NO YOU CANT CUT IT IN HALF"
Let's get a plate loaded version!
Not on the roadmap, but we will consider in the future
I wonder if they are going to fix the pins hitting the cables or send out new pins to customers who paid for the Dane.
They can just include their mag pins as they'll interfere less or move the pin holes to the side
I think you're 6ft right? What do you think of this one for someone who's 6'5"? Would the ROM be limited just for pulldowns or other stuff as well?
Would that low row foot plate fit on the foot of a PR-5000 Athena setup? if so, that would be a reason for me to go Athena for the better build quality. If not, the Dane is way more versatile for the price and quality difference.
All the attachments will fit directly onto a PR-5000
@@GlucksGym Thanks Gluck! Might be best to get the Athena and try to get the foot plate for lat and low row until one can upgrade to the back stack attachment.
Great video. What is the rack at 10:00?
@@creativesummitstudios PR 5000 with Dialed Motion pulley system on it
@@GlucksGym thanks for the quick response. Subscribed 🤙
Does the plate storage make sense here? If I have a barbell on the rack, how do I get weight from storage to the bar? Do I have to duck under the bar?
Why don't these companies just ask Gluck BEFORE they start designing and building their equipment?
Does the half rack need to be bolted to the ground?
It does not! The front feet stabilize the rack. That, and the damn thing weighs a ton
What are your thoughts on the Talon from Griffin?
I'm a real man, I can't even count that low :)
😂 I liked that one
How is rhe lat pull down with this rack? It looks like when doing lat pull downs they have to be done at a angle since the trolley does not sticks out enough like a regular lat pull down.
Correct. You can not pull straight down.
Can you review the Griffin Talon?
Can the Rep Athena attach to Fringes Osprey rack??
How does your wife like the dane? Me and the wife like to work out at same time. Was in market for another squat rack. And the fictional trainer is a bonus. Like all the accessories you could do with the machine. Half cost of rep?
Were you able to get a full stretch on the last pull-down?
Yes. I mention it and show it on the vid (sorry for the lack of time stamp) but at 6' it's pretty close and I do have to put the seat a little lower than I'd probably like to.
How long did it take you to build?
You and garage gym reviews on the same day?
Do you think the cable system will continue to degrade in smoothness over time?
No. I think the issue is the cable thickness and potentially the pulley diameters (they're using 3 different size pulleys). This is from the same factory (IMO) as the Vesta 2:1 which has similar issues with the smoothness of the pull.
Wait for version 2.0.
You might be waiting a long time.
I got patience. Also any large pieces I will wait for Black Friday.
@@TheGhu123 we haven’t fully planned, but I do think this bf will be SICK
What do you think about their clear coat?
It's very well done.
Vesta fitness! Has one with Smith machine!!!
Here for the real reviews, not sales pitches
😂 I didn't mean that to be a dig
for example.....
Perfect customer 😅
Seems to be a run of the mill Alibaba import. Would rather go with a Stray Dog ATR or Rogue FM-6
1:1 ratio🙏
These companies would make money from me if they had short ceiling options. LOL
Yes there are a few annoying things for sure like:
1) First 10lbs plate is definitely not 10lbs.. definitely a good bit heavier!
2)The selector pin flailing around (only doing 10lbs) when not inserted is super annoying (I figured out a work around)
3) lat pull down seat locking pin and cable don't fit without banging into each other.. Fixed with a low profile pin
4) feels like i need generate a lot more torque to get the cables into position for some exercises which I is annoying but I also kind of like because it works my core a lot harder trying to keep everything stable
It did sort of seem like an OEM / white label product bc I swore I recognized some of components from other brands but it's all good.. my next system will definitely be a Rep but for now this works just fine
@@jonasirw1 are there any cable exercises that you find limited due to the 1:1 ratio and limited cable length? i like both this and the vesta 2n1 - kinda torn between the two.
Yep!
a wall-mounted athena reference!!!
Hi
you and GGR post this within minutes of eachother. Yours is better!
Ohhh Garage gym beat you by an hour on the review video.
I have a theory; this is not an coincide.
Fringe doesn't deliver to my area
Have not watched both reviews yet but I already know… Gluck did it better.
$2,300...
third
no wonder his views have gone down he's just trying to be negative to get views but his complaints make no sense it's too heavy for my wife with the weight of the pin well then just do the pin no weights.
First plate is attached I believe, that's why there's no hole @@dbzfactseeker4421
Do you think its worth it to get one of these or to save up for the Rep ?
If you can save up I would go with an Athena. I'm sure Fringe will improve this but it's not on that level.
