The only 2 things that I wish that the MM+ had that would make it perfect are a RTC and being able to charge using any charger. I have several ways of play games but I always find myself coming back to my MM+. It like a comfort device and nostalgic tickle.
@@TheIzzyNobreShow i had the white MM but dropped and broke the screen and then i said well it was time to upgrade to miyoo mini plus while i do still use it like maniac switching from MM and MM+ was a downgrade for me the beautiful saturated screen was no longer there the device felt chunky and heavy but most importantly the volume wheel was gone and you're right about everything it's just a downgrade overall the small cuteness of the device was no more
The OS on the 35xx plus has actually gotten really good. There is almost no point in putting custom firmware on it at this point unless you just want to so I would review it if I were you.
Yeah I just don't understand why they don't copy (which in FOSS world is not only allowed but actually the core philosophy of the business...) the game switcher function from onion os, the only one thing that is actually far better than any other firmware for these devices
Got my MM a couple of months after my Steam Deck and I do think it's a perfect compliment to it. That said, I haven't really touched mine in several months, because I was playing a lot more on my Vita, as I love what's going on there with the homebrew community. That said, I've been thinking about picking up my Mini again recently. One thing I love about it is that as a person with large hands and long fingers, I can easily play slower games with one hand, which just feels good. And yes, I also prefer the volume wheel over the buttons.

I just bought a Miyoo Mini Plus from Aliexpress for £30 😮 planning on dumping the roms onto my laptop, updating the OS to Onion, then putting the roms I want back on the card. Sound like an ok plan? Do I really need to buy a better sd card or is the one supplied ok? I don’t really mind getting a new one but guess I’d rather not 🤷🏻♂️

i went through different devices the past 4 years. now ive pretty much sold all the devices i had in that space and recently got a rg35xxsp. i am not old enough to have nostalgia for the gameboy, i have nostalgia for the sp and ds so it matches what i want a bit more. im aiming to stay away from other devices as i have that and mainstream consoles like a switch or steam deck for different purposes

The Miyoo Mini Plus has the same guts as the original, but just has a larger body and screen. Works exactly the same as the original under the hood but IMO is easier to hold. Both systems can use the Onion OS custom firmware.
To do proper PS2 emulation you'll need a beefier system. A Steam Deck or the Ayn Odin 2 would be your best bet. I do hear that the Retroid Pocket 4 and Anbernic RG556 ought to do the job as well. If you want more in depth about the ins and outs of handheld consoles, Retro Games Corp is one of the bigger channels that cover that stuff.
Odd, my comment didn't post. Anyways, I said that the Retroid Pocket 4 and the Anbernic RG556 can handle PS2 well. In a pinch, Steam Deck also does the job but requires more setup.
For PS2 the RG556 is awesome, has great ergonomics and an OLED screen. But keep in mind that the devices that can run PS2 are more expensive (U$150+) and also bigger. The Retroid Pocket 4 Pro is a bit smaller but I personally like the 556 more because it has a bigger screen and OLED is too good.
Anbernic's alternatives are currently the best you can get for you buck, software wise they're still behind onion OS, but they've been catching up pretty quickly. The latest version of muOS supports sleep mode (even supporting it when you close the lid on the flip model) and takes only 6 seconds to boot from powered off. What they don't have (yet, fingers crossed) in software polishment they make up for in chip power, it's great being able to play ps1 and most psp games without a hitch.
@@Nort-vl6hm I have no complaints about the dpads on the rg35xxh, specially at its price point. But you can always do some diy mods to get them more to your liking, or even get a different device that's either less powerful or more expensive as a trade-off. And that's the beauty of it, so many good options.
The Miyoo is pretty solid. I have actually recently Replaced my Miyoo with my RG35xx SP as my every day carry. The "35 SP" I have flashed MinUI and it's been VERY good and has an amazing library of themes. I am ALSO tempted to try Knuli because that one is based on emulation station which is my favorite front end (besides the full fat PC version of Launchbox). BACK to the SP... it's just a killer handheld. I have been dabbling in ports and I found that the classic windows games "SkiiFree" and "SpaceCadet3DPinball" are BOTH available through portmaster. Playing ports of OLD and NEW games really enhances that handheld library. Playing ports like Space Cadet Pinball alongside tetris, mario, zelda, pokemon, sonic etc. really makes this a one stop retro device.
I really like my Miyoo Mini, I’ve just been lazy and haven’t put Onion on it yet. Even the base OS does the job for the lazy of us out there, but since the stock SD cards are total balls, it’s time to update it all

I personally prefer Knulli on the RG35XX family of devices, but it seems most prefer muOS.

That's a PS2 game, and I have very limited experience emulating PS2 unfortunately! Not retro enough for me just yet hehe

They also don’t have as nice feeling dpads and buttons that Miyoo do. Huge thing that a lot of people overlook when selecting an Anbernic device

Man it’s surprising how good onion is I have an about 7 retro handhelds and the ease of setup and use of onion is bar none .

Onion is SO worth it, dude. You have no idea. The stock OS is damn near unusable in comparison!
Make sure your new card is formatted for FAT32. Miyoo Mini can't read other card formats.

Drains battery faster due to always needing wifi on, and puts you in the mindset of “completing a checklist” rather than enjoying the game
I don't like their style on the MM+, it looks much better on the RG351v!
