Hey, I loved your review of the different systems! My family and I just survived being hit dead on by hurricane Ian - a Cat4 hurricane. It was an absolute nightmare. And on top of that my 10 year old daughter got hurt where her elbow got dislocated and her humerus fractured in 2 places. Surgery was required and she's fine now! But I just wanted to say that my Trangia cook systems proved to be indispensable to our post storm survival gear. I have both the 25 and the 27. I used the 27 all the time when I was a traveling nurse and on personal camping trips. The 25 is almost luxuriously large in it's capabilities for 1-2 people on the trail or in the bush. However, the 25 got used the most to feed my family after the hurricane. I also used it to heat water to be able to bathe my daughter as we were without electricity for quite a bit - 7 days. Anyway, the fuel was inexpensive and efficient. Being in Florida, we obviously don't face any complications related to elevation, but as we were experiencing almost total communication blackout for the majority of the time we were impacted, it was always on my mind to be judicious in the expenditure of our fuel. We used regular denatured alcohol - (I believe you guys refer to them as methylated spirits?) and it worked wonderfully. I have a number of different types of cooking/stove systems. And different designs lend themselves to different applications better than others. At the age of 53, I am well aware of the benefits of packing lighter. I have a lot of ultralight gear, but I'll never truly be a an "ultra lighter." I think that people have gotten so enamored of the mentality of packing ultralight that they lose sight of the fact that some people are not going backpacking on a generally well established and hospitable trail. It's easy to point out the Appalachian Trail as one of these, but I would be remiss if I did not also point out that there are significant sections that are quite arduous and nothing to be dismissed lightly. I would argue that the 25 and the 27 (I can only speak to these as these are what I have experience with) are reliable, efficient, and stable. Certainly one has to make adjustments with regard to conditions, but they provide you with a broad degree of flexibility and efficiency for a not really significant sacrifice with regard to weight (Ultralighters would wildly disagree - but only within the spectrum of their particular goals - and they would not be wrong). I'm on the lookout for a billy pot for my 27, and I'm considering upgrading my pots to either duossal or non-stick. I'm not sure which is better. If anyone has advice I'd love to hear it. Anyway, sorry for getting long-winded; but great review! And get a new bag for that 27 - it looks like its about to fall apart! LOL
Fall apart? It’s got years left in it! 😂 Thanks for your comments and happy that you and your family have made it through the storm. We’re just coming into the start of our storm season. Primarily as a leisure/hiking kit to make small cookouts but secondly as an emergency backup kit. Bought my Trangia 25 back in the early 80's. I still have it but the burner has some clogged jets. I've tried to clean them out, and some have come back, but some I guess I reamed out a bit to big. Great video by the way. Oh there is a trivet/rack you can get to set inside your 25 or 27. That will allow you to use other pots and pans as well. I have one for my 25, works great.
Great review Buddy! I have a 25 and I have not cooked on it much yet. I did not know they made a larger pot, but I will try and track one down now that you brought it to our attention! I bought the propane burner but found it isolated the heat too much in the middle of the fry pan, so I made up a cheesy heat defuser out of an old can lid. It is crude but it seams to help a bit. Thanks for sharing all your cook sets. It was fascinating!😊
Man what a wonderful video. Really enjoyed that. Never knew the billy pot worked on the stove in the fry pan position. Headed to the Trangia site now. Have a few of each model. Minus the 23

Why is your 27 so black ? Mine burns clean. The only issue I've had was alcohol much too strong, from German hardware store. The burner boilled over and burnt/melted the metal of the ventellated shield. Luckily I was nowhere near my tent. Solved by adding a few drops of water to the burner. I always test new fuel with care.
